Your ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE to Disney World at Christmas Time! UPDATE x2 10/21

Hahaha oh my goodness, those stories are awesome! That is way too funny. Those squirrels are crazy! When did you work at DHS? Were you on a college program?
Thank you so much! I hope you like hearing about Hilton Head!

Yep, I was on the college program in spring/summer 2005. I loved it! I worked in merchandise at DHS (Star Tours and Indiana Jones mostly). It was hard at times, but also one of the best times of my life. Let me know if you have any questions about it... I'm sure you would love the program as well!

You have got me sooooo excited to see the Castle lighting, the Osbourne Lights and any and all Christmas decor wwe can see! I have to say, you are so informative, it awesome!

We ate at Sci Fi for the 1st time in Sept and I can't believe we didn't earlier! I made an adr for Nov, and I must try the chips and dip you had, it looks so de-lish!

I hope to see the fireworks from the CR someday, I can just imagine how great it looked.

I'm going to check out your new TR!

How did I miss all these updates?? Hahah time to catch up!
Ahhh I love the Dapper Dans. They're just so perfect especially during Christmas. sigh :lovestruc
Tony's is one of my favorites, especially the chicken parm! Yummy I want Disney food now! :goodvibes

Those Christmas trees in AK are adorable! I usually don't go back by Camp Minnie Mickey, but those trees are so cute, especially the Lion King and Goofy one. Disney just pays SO much attention to everything, even my dad notices the details!

I barely remember when I went to Disney during Christmas time, but I actually remember that show by the castle! So magical <3 The castle is stunning with all the lights :cloud9:

Sci-fi looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD. Nom Nom. I want that milkshake right now! Those onion rings look delicious too!

Good luck! I hope you get the job!
I got the Job!!!! I'm really excited because I get to move into my dorm on Tuesday and then I train Wednesday-Friday!

If someone is "friends" with a character, that just means they play the character, whether it's face or mask. I never have had a problem with the face characters. The mask characters are always the awkward ones because they can't talk.
Yep! I've never had a problem with face characters either!

Tonight is my last night at Disney's Hilton Head Resort.
BOO :(

I didn't end up buying it, but I snapped a picture for you all. I thought they were adorable.
Do you remember how much it was? I might have to buy that! It's just adorable!

If you have ever listened to kids this age talk to each other, you will know what I mean when I say it absolutely MELTS your heart. Oh my God. Most precious thing I have ever seen. They were telling each other how excited they were to see Mickey!
It is seriously the cutest thing in the entire world :) All the time at work I hear these little kids talking about all different things and sometimes I just can't believe some of the stuff they say!

I can hear it off in the distance... "so sing it out, and bark and growl and screech and roar, and dance along..."
I just can't help but sing along and dance when I hear that song!

Minnie is perfect. The back of her float smelled like Hot Cocoa!
She totally is :) and YUM!

When we pulled into the Contemporary, this little boy said, “Daddy, why did they just say ‘Welcome Home?’” hahaha oh little boy. You have so much to learn.
We need to teach him!

A FLYNN RIDER BUS! PLEASE TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!!
LOL! This = <3 <3 <3

Yesterday we drove for 14 HOURS.
I know how that feels! When we drive to Kansas City from here, it's a 13 hour drive!

It kept getting darker and darker and the CASTLE LIGHTING CEREMONY was about to begin!
I seriously need to see the castle lighting ceremony!!!

When Prince Charming and Cinderella came out I just lost it. Seriously, this show just hit me. It was only about 5-10 minutes long but it was one of the most magical things I have ever seen. Wow. Well done, Disney. You’ve captured my heart again.
Whenever I watch it on youtube I cry, so I can't imagine what the real thing is going to do to me!

Time to watch cheesy old movie clips and eat lots of food that is very bad for me :-) #yay sci-fi YUM!
I had SO much fun eating at sci-fi last trip!

BAHAHAHAHA "public displays of affection will not be tolerated here." oh sci fi you have the frumpiest random advertisements :P
They really do :) I remember I started cracking up when I saw that commercial and everyone around me kept giving me weird looks! I was like "I'm in Disney! I'm going to laugh!"

However, Dad’s was the perfect consistency.
My mom got the strawberry shake, and she said the same thing! She didn't like that it tasted like the fake strawberry milk, and not actual strawberries.

Seriously, why WOULDN’T I do this!? These are two of my absolute favorite appetizers in the world and I would never be able to choose between the two. So I got both and ate them all and regret NOTHING. Sci-Fi honestly has the best onion rings on the entire planet. And that artichoke dip was PERFECTION! Like… this was probably one of my top favorite meals of the trip. I was just in heaven.
I didn't try the dip, but it's going on my list of foods to try :) The onion rings were DELISH!

Mom got the Angus Chuck Cheese Burger. I imagine that it was delicious. Sci-Fi is known to have fantastic burgers!
That's what I got and it was YUMMY!!!!

I GOT A FREE GLOW BRACELET WITH MY RED VELVET CHEESECAKE! Best dessert ever!!!
SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!?!?!??! I need that dessert now!

I made a little friend on the bus named Julie and she was chatting with me about how Selena Gomez and Justin Beiber broke up. (did that even happen?) I also told her about how Katy Perry and Russel got divorced
I don't think so!!! I'm so sad that they got divorced :(

JUST SAW FANTASY IN THE SKY FROM MY WINDOW. HOLY GOD. OH MY GOD. My dad was just like "are we in heaven right now?" OH MY GOD.
That seriously sounds like my kind of heaven :)

Even if I do get a chance to watch the castle lighting in November (I better!), I will bawl my eyes out and it will be nothing new since I cry like every 2 seconds in Disney anyways.

I cannot think that I have ever even been to Sci Fi! Why, I have no clue. I need to go. Like, now.

I have an obsession with artichoke dip and I heard it was REALLY good at Sci Fi. I NEED TO TRY IT.

SO IT’S NOT JUST ME WHO WONDERS WHAT UNCLE PHIL LOOKS LIKE. I kinda want to meet him…but Stacey is like the #1 person I want to meet. Then Uncle Phil of course.

I hope you do! And you DEFINITELY will. I got so emotional over that thing!
Oh my goodness, yes you do!
It's absolutely INCREDIBLE! You definitely need to go!
YES. Clearly he looks like a gorilla but hmmm... And gahh I know. Me too! She followed me on twitter the other day and I had a bit of a spaz attack.

That's wonderful! How fun that must have been! Yes, I have heard that it is quite the adventure - I'm looking forward to doing mine! It has been my dream since I was 10 and I'm hoping to either do it in Spring 2014 or right after I graduate. We will see! I definitely will, thank you!

You have got me sooooo excited to see the Castle lighting, the Osbourne Lights and any and all Christmas decor wwe can see! I have to say, you are so informative, it awesome!

Aww thank you! I'm glad that my reporting is helping you out! That's the goal :thumbsup2
Isn't it awesome!? I hope you enjoy it again! You definitely need to get the chips and artichoke dip!
They're incredible!
Thank you so much!

Haha I don't know! Yes the Dapper Dans are AWESOME. And wahh I want Disney food so bad right now!
Yes, they really do! That's the key to their success, really. The details is what makes something great as opposed to good!
Aww it really does make a lasting impression! It is beautiful!
Gahh I seriously want to go back to Sci Fi like NOW. I miss that food!

I got the Job!!!! I'm really excited because I get to move into my dorm on Tuesday and then I train Wednesday-Friday!

Congratulations! How exciting.
I think either $14 or $16.
Yup, I worked with kids all summer and they continue to melt my heart each time they talk!
The Castle Lighting was SO emotional for me - you would love it!
Well, places that make strawberry shakes never actually use real strawberries, sorry to break it to ya. I learned that at my job. They always use the flavored syrup no matter where you go. Maybe the sci-fi one dominantly tasted like the syrup. :confused3
It was a heavenly night!

Jess, I'm FINALLY all caught up with this thing. I'm obviously not going to post all my thoughts because that would take forever, but HOLY COW all of your Christmas pics/stories have me hoping so badly that my possible late November trip works out so I can experience everything. I mean, is there a better combination than Disney & Christmas??? :)

Also, I can't stop laughing at this: When we pulled into the Contemporary, this little boy said, “Daddy, why did they just say ‘Welcome Home?’” hahaha oh little boy. You have so much to learn. So true. :rotfl:

PS: I'm so proud of you and your TSM high score, buckaroo! :thumbsup2

YAY KARA IS BACK!!! I thought you'd never catch up because I updated so much when you went on your trip in July  Well yay, you're back and it's not even over! We still have like 11 more updates to go. :lmao:

I hope your trip works out too!! Would it be with your family or is it for a certain occassion?

Hahaha oh I know. I was like... my child would know that Disney is their home by the time they were that age!! :rotfl:

Thank you, thank you! I was so excited! Hopefully I can break that record someday soon!

The castle lighting show seems so cute. Unfortunately, the night we went it was raining, so they cut it really short. None of the characters came out, but the voices played so it was kind of awkward. Either way it was still cool to see the castle light up. Hopefully I'll get back there soon for Christmas!

Now I'm off to read the start of your next trip!

Great updates! I cannot wait until the day I see the castle lighting or return to Sci-Fi!!!!!!!!!

I know you don't, because I can tell your posts always dripping with wonder and gratitude and what not, but don't take all your trips for granted! I am so envious with how frequently you get to get to go. But I am glad I have such great Dis friends who write as eloquently as you so I can live vicariously for the time being!!

Aww I'm sorry that happened to you! I would have been so disappointed if that happened! That would make the show a little less magical, I would imagine.

I hope you will too!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you'll be joining in!

Thank you for the kind words! Don't worry, I never do! Every moment I spend in Disney is deeply cherished. My happiest times of life are when I am there and I am truly grateful and thankful for each opportunity to visit! I love writing these trip reports so I can share all that I have experienced with others. I just love to pass on the happiness! :goodvibes

Just discovered this TR this week, and after reading all of the chapters so far (not too much of the posts in between, unfortunately I'm not quite that patient haha) I felt I just had to comment and say hello!

I feel like we have a lot in common. I too am a Disney obsessed college student, going into my senior year next week, which I can't even quite process yet. I plan on doing the DCP next fall right after I graduate, since my school's been to rigorous to take a semester off for it, and a semester off would also involve missing a season on my hockey team, and as a captain, that's not really possible lol. AND I too made some pretty huge changes academically in order to keep doing what I love. I spent my first two years of college as an engineering major, an though I loved the school I was miserable academically. Last summer I took a trip to London with one of my best friends and while there we saw our favorite actor in Much Ado About Nothing on the West End and that literally changed my life. I realized how much I missed theatre and performing and how miserable I was having given it up to pursue a "safer, more realistic" career. I'm lucky that my school also has a theatre major, and that I had done so many engineering credits already that double majoring was possible and I didn't technically waste two years.

So long story short, I'm so much happier with my life now and looking forward to all the opportunities headed my way. And I'm so glad that you're happy with the changes you've made yourself and your new school!

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your updates and tucking away all of your tips for future use. We're going for Christmas this year, a lifelong dream of mine, which is how I found your Trip Report! I'm the Disney planner of the family so I'm busy gathering as much info as I can!

Hahaha don't even worry, I don't expect anyone to read all of the comments in between. Thank you for reading the chapters!! That means a lot to me. :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!

That is an INCREDIBLE story. Holy cow, I am seriously so happy for you! You got to do it all! It seems like things always have a way of working out, don't they!? Wow. That really is great! And it sounds like doing the DCP right after you graduate will be the perfect thing for you to do! I hope you enjoy it!

Thank you so much! I am glad that this TR will help with your planning! We did almost everything Christmassy, so I'm sure there will be lots of information for you! Have a magical trip! Thank you for sharing your story! :goodvibes

Chapter 90: Our Last Morning of 2011
December 31st, 2011

HAPPY NEW YEAR’S EVE! We woke up at 6:30 am this morning because Dad and I had to make our last Toy Story Mania run of the year!

There were a lot of 2011 trending topics on twitter this morning.

Kristen tweeted at me:
How about this: #2011in4words the invention of FRUMP.

YES. So true.

I posted on twitter:
2011 was definitely my best year yet :-) #theyearofthedisneytrips

We got up, went to Contempo Café, and. Dad grabbed a coffee.

I tweeted:
As I'm walking to the contemporary, their relaxing music somehow reminds me of "smelly cat, smelly cat, why aren't they feeding you?"#friends

I think I was a little delirious because it was so early in the morning, but the elevator-type music that was playing was morphed into this Phoebe classic hit in my head. Frump.

And if you have no idea what Smelly Cat is, please watch this youtube video of genius. Thank you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7jlGRq8xZ4

We went down to the bus stop and a bus pulled up and it said Epcot, but the bus driver said they were going to Hollywood. HOORAY!

We were on our way! We stopped at the Polynesian and got to Hollywood around 7:30 or 7:40 am.

I posted on twitter:
LOL The bus is broken. I've heard "hello everyone! And welcome aboard the Walt Disney World transportation system." about 10 times :P

Good thing I love all Disney voice announcers!

The park was already open and we went straight to Toy Story Mania!

They were apparently doing a flash mob at Hollywood Studios that day at 2:30 pm for New Year’s Eve. How cool is that!? I really wanted to go, but I wanted to spend more time at the pool, so I didn’t make it back over.

We got to Toy Story Mania and grabbed some fastpasses. They were for 8:30 am!! That takes skill, my friends.

dsc00352fw.jpg

Then we went in the 5 minute standby line! You don't see that every day, ESPECIALLY during Christmas week! It was basically a walk on! However, we didn’t get to go through our right side gate because they didn’t ask us that morning. Dang.

dsc00312zc.jpg

I broke 200,000 again!! WOOHOO! It was not as high as my 214,300, but still pretty good! Dad broke 100,000 and he was really excited! We were both improving a lot at this game over the course of the trip!

dsc00362vq.jpg

TOY STORY MANIA RIDE COUNT: 10

dsc0037ci.jpg

We got off the ride and it was still before 8 am. The line was only 15 minutes! LET’S DO IT AGAIN!

dsc00392ra.jpg

I only got 150,000. What the heck! That’s quite a decrease. My arm must have been getting tired.

TOY STORY MANIA RIDE COUNT: 11

On our way out I saw our Cast Member friend, Derrel, from Hollywood, CA who gave us fastpasses after I broke my record! He actually recognized me! We said hello and I told him we used our fastpasses after our Sci-Fi dinner the previous night!

After our chat, I looked at the wait time again and it said 40 minutes! Geez, that shot up fast. We had about half an hour until we could use our fastpasses, so we wandered.

Piglet had no line so I grabbed a picture with him! Unfortunately he wasn't a very good character at all. He was really awkward. Ah well. Maybe they test out all of the newbie characters during Christmas week or something.

dsc00412m.jpg

To use up some time, we went over to Star Tours. We got in line because it was only 10 minutes! Woohoo!

We started walking in the queue and this CM saw my Dad’s Buffalo Sabres hat! She was HUGE fan of the team and said she was from that city! She was so enthusiastic and said that she always watches the Sabres vs. Tampa Bay games with her friends down in Florida! She asked us “do you guys have any fastpasses for today?” And we asked her, “well, do you have any extra Toy Story Mania fastpasses?” She said “anything for a Sabres fan!” AHHHHH YAY! Good hat choice for the day, Dad! She gave us two fastpasses!

After that, we basically walked right on Star Tours.

I posted on twitter:
I love when the robot from that star tours preshow twitches and then starts speaking spanish. #fantastic

Have you guys noticed this? It's the FRUMPIEST thing! I laugh every time.

We were in the third row. It was a really good ride… it’s too bad I don’t understand Star Wars because I can’t give an accurate description. I do remember that there was snow involved!

We got off the ride at exactly 8:30 am and we went back to Toy Story Mania! We got fastpasses for 1:00 and 1:05 pm!

So if you think about it, TWO of us went into Hollywood Studios this morning and we left with SIX fastpasses for later. Talk about a successful (and lucky) morning!

dsc00492wu.jpg

We left the park and went to the bus stop. A lady on a Disney Cruise Line bus picked us up and offered to take us to the TTC! Yay for a private bus ride!

On the way there, she talked to us about the homes at Golden Oak and how they’re 1.5 million dollars. Ugh how I wish I could afford to live there. We took the back roads because the road getting into the main pink Magic Kingdom gates were backed up all the way to Epcot!

She said that since we were the only two people on the bus, she would drive us right to the Polynesian because that’s where we were eating breakfast! Thank you, kind lady!

dsc00422cc.jpg

Did you know there is a big hidden Mickey in the tile of the first floor of the Grand Ceremonial house!? When I entered the Polynesian, a cast member pointed it out to me! I couldn't believe I never noticed that before!

dsc00442tu.jpg

Mom was heading over from the Contemporary so I hung out in the gift shop for a while. I traded for a Miss Piggy pin! The song “Pineapple Princess” was playing while I was in there and I remembered it from my old Lilo and Stitch Island Favorites CD. The song was then stuck in my head for a good hour.

We went up to Kona and checked in for breakfast! My Dad wanted to eat here twice on this trip because he loved it so much, so I figured we could eat here on Christmas and New Years Eve – two of the best days of the year!

Mom wasn’t even there yet but they sat us right away! We sat on the left side of the restaurant this time (when looking in from the entrance) and our server’s name was Carolyn. She was pretty spunky!

Mom got there two minutes after we sat down, so that was pretty good timing!

I posted on twitter:
My last breakfast of 2011 is going to consist of the beauty that is Tonga Toast. I couldn't ask for anything better :-)

Let me tell you, that Tonga Toast was SO delicious. Oh my God. The biggest problem I have with it is that I can actually finish the entire thing. That cannot be good for you. I swear, I’m a bottomless pit. It is just SO AMAZING!

dsc00532ho.jpg

Dad got his favorite – the Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes! I tried some and they were PERFECT on this day. The other day they were a little overdone, but today they were absolutely flawless.

dsc00512si.jpg

Mom got a fruit plate and strawberry yogurt. The plate was BEAUTIFUL and all of the fruit was really fresh!

dsc00562i.jpg

dsc00522rs.jpg

Mom and Dad also split a press pot coffee. It's their favorite!

dsc00502m.jpg

Sadly, it was another TiW blackout date. Oh well. I was not mad, that food was worth every penny!

Overview of Kona:
Waitress: Carolyn
Service: She had a lot of personality, which was a little overhwhelming for my parents I think. But I didn’t mind her. She got her job done. 3.5/5
Atmosphere: Great as always! We sat on the other side of the restaurant this time so that was a lot of fun! 4/5
Food: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. There is nothing like that Tonga Toast or those Macadamia Nut Pancakes. The problem is that I can eat an entire plate of either of those (or both!) and they give you A LOT of food. But it’s SO FREAKIN’ GOOD! 5/5

We left and took the monorail back to the Contemporary! Mom and I grabbed Jonathan a Mickey Waffle from Contempo Café. It was busy in there, as always.

dsc00572xa.jpg

We walked back to the room and debated on what to do. However, I was so tired that I just took a nap. I think getting up early and the fact that I was getting over a cold was just weighing me down. I slept from 11 am to 1 pm so I would have enough energy to stay up for New Year’s Eve!!

Mom came back up to the room once I woke up and we went down to the pool!

I posted on twitter:
I woke up so I could go sleep by the pool. #thegoodlife

Our chairs were in the shade, so we moved down to the little beach area behind the slide.

dsc00692cl.jpg

It had a beautiful view:

dsc00862pi.jpg

I laid out for a while, did some instagramming, and just relaxed! Jonathan brought Mom a Chicken Caesar salad from Contempo Café and I had some of it. I needed to be hungry for dinner, so I figured this would be light and tide me over.

I agree with that statement so much! Besides, it was you and Kristen that inspired me to join the forums. I, too, am a frump and proud of it!

Ahh those views by the pool...I HAVE to stay there someday. And the Poly...its so beautiful there.

Holy you guys sure did some awesome TSM-ing on this trip! That's seriously impressive. How awesome that you got so many fast passes, and a private bus! UGH! Tonga toast is quite possibly the most delicious thing I have ever tasted! And that fruit plate, hooooooly! It looks absolutely amazing!

The invention of frump. Genius! That's when I 'met' yall so for me it was true!

SO MANY TOY STORY FASTPASSES! Ugh if only that could happen every single time!

Tonga toast looks amazing but I wish you could pick the filling! I love bananas but not warm mushy ones (as I've heard them described in the Tonga Toast). But like I said... it looks amaaaazing.

THAT POOL. Those views. Everything is perfect!!! Your chicken caesar salad looks different than the one I had from the Contempo. Weird! Yours looks better actually!

What an amazing way to start off New Years Eve....Six TSM fastpasses...that has to be a record for that week, and I am definitely betting that you guys came back to use all of them:goodvibes

The pool area at BLT looks gorgeous...I can definitely see why you guys loved spending so much time down there.

Kona for breakfast looks so good....I love it for dinner, mainly because of the bread lol, but after reading so many wonderful reviews of the breakfast, I think one of these days I am definitely going to have to try that too.

I love that giant Mickey at the polynesian, We did one of the photoshoots at the Poly once and the photographer had us sit on that giant mickey...I loved how those pics came out.

Can't wait to hear more

Six TSM Fastpasses???

OMG, how exciting!

And I totally laughed out loud with the "Smelly Cat" reference! I loved Friends...one of my fave shows to this day :)

OMG you guys were TSM pros this trip! I can’t believe you left with 6 FPs that morning.

I have been DYING to try Kona. I’m going in November for dinner. I’m excited for THE BREAD but I really want to try the Tonga Toast!
