2012 "What's on National's Emerald Aisle?"

Just a FYI (and I know you said never) Alamo would have honored that contract and found you a car. You would still have been renting from National with Alamo's help. ;)
Where were you on Sat with no cars? I have been on vacation (going back today, :sad2:).

Let me rephrase. I try not to even talk to anyone wearing an Alamo outfit.

I was in San Antonio. (SAT)

LOL, you are too funny. RE: SAT, I don't know all the airport codes, I took it as the day of the week. :confused3 As to having to deal with anyone in an Alamo outfit, you would not have had to do that. Just go get a car and exit at National. At least that is how it works here. Have a GREAt day.

Last September when we rented from Alamo, there was an option for an 8 passenger Sienna. I have been playing around with my end of September rental for this year and haven't seen them in the list. Does anyone knw if they have been discontinued at Alamo?

We still have Siennas. Not sure why they don't show up, but we have them. It is also an upgrade from a regular 7 pax. mini van. I know, at this time, that the 8 pax. are sold out. Not available for upgrade or walk up. You can give the reservations line a call and see what the status is for your dates. (877) 222-9075

If I have a Standard SUV booked, can I pick mini van if they have them in the isle?

You will be going to the standard SUV area, not aisle (you have rented something specific). The vehicles on the Emerald Aisle or Exec. Aisle are for folks who have made an Emerald Club reservation or Aisle service. You can always ask the greeter if you can switch out. It totally depends on the amount of reservations and availability on any given day.

If I have Emerald Aisle, and I book a mid-size SUV and there isn't anything i like on the aisle, am I guaranteed the mid-size SUV? What do you have for mid-size SUVs?

Other question, DH and I are both EA members...what do we need to do at checkout so we can both drive?

(coming in about 1100 the Monday after Thanksgiving...think the pickings will be slim or good from all the people returning Sunday?)

If you book a specific type of vehicle, you do NOT go to the aisle, you go to the specific section. If you book a mid size SUV, that is what you will get at least. You have what is called an Emerald Reserve reservation. NOT an EA or Exec. reservation. The program outline on Nationalcar.com explains this quite well.
My list is old. Rav4, Escape, Jeep Compass/Patriot/Liberty Kia Sportage.

At checkout, both licenses need to be checked, spouse added to the contract, and both must be present.

I have no way of telling what will be available on the Monday after TG. I can tell you if you do not like what is available, ask the greeter for more options. Monday is generally a big business travel day and usually quite busy. Same with Sunday evenings.

Gmeh1 - I hope everyone that uses this site appreciates all the info that you are able to provide. I always check here before booking a car. Thanks.

I'll be picking up this Thursday (8/23), Exec. Aisle. Hope to find something fun! (This was a last minute trip, just booked it last week).

Thank you Dennise, that was a sweet thing to say and I do appreciate it. :)

We picked up Ex. aisle on 8/9 @ 11pm > not much to choose from very empty. There where 3 impalas, a couple of 300's, and 3 jeep liberty's. We took the jeep with the lowest mileage [11000] and it was nice. lots of room for luggage, and drove well. But it is high up. After 2 weeks I am glad I don't have to get myself up there any more. [back to my personal vw beetle].
Service in and out was great. No issues at all.

Thanks for a great trip. mky :wizard:

Gmeh, you are a great help here. Thanks much.

Flying in Wed evening around 7. What vehicles do you suspect will be available on exec selection? Which side has better selection..A or B?.

Will you be there at that time, which side? Not sure how, but shout out in the deck is an option to give you some props....

Hi there, thank you for the kind words, they are truly appreciated.

Weds. are generally a quiet day/night. What I suspect you will see will be Camrys, Impala LTZs(nice car, big trunk, leather interior, some with sunroofs), Avalons (also a very nice car), Chrysler 300's. (You are always guaranteed a full size care on Exec.) Possiby some SUV's (oh, please don't ask me what kind, I never get them straight). Tonight we had some really big SUV's(Suburbans, I think) on the exec. aisle, some smaller on the Emerald aisle, some converts (only holds 4). Sometimes we toss some mini vans on there. If you need a mini van or standard SUV, you can always ask the greeter if they are available. If you do not see a Suburban or similar on the aisle, chances are you will not get one without an upcharge, the smaller ones and mini vans are sometimes available without an upcharge. Depends on the amount of reservations for each class of vehicle.
I am off Wed-Thurs. I work Fri-Tues. They switch us off between A&B side, so I really never know where I am going to be. Which is a bummer, cause I would totally enjoy meeting folks from the DIS. I have only met one person from the DIS, it was really nice and she is a sweetie.
Personally, I think the A side has the best selection. The prep area on A side is larger and tends to process more cars.
What are you looking for.....specifically?

gmeh1, thanks for the very helpful info. Too bad you won't be there for a shout out.

This is one of the only times I have flown into Orlando not on vacation with the family so don't need a van or big SUV for the 6 of us.

So...what am I looking for? I will be only on the ground there for less than 48 hrs since I am driving down to Sarasota Wed evening and back Friday afternoon for a meeting on Thursday. So..something with a nice, comfortable ride with decent gas mileage and preferrably with XM/Sirius.

I will head to the A side Wed evening and see what is there....

Thanks again.

Look for a car with less than 10K mile on it and a funny antenna on the roof. That let's you know about Sirius. The Hundai Sonata is a great car for what you want. Comfortable and all have Sirius (under 10K miles). Another is the Toyota Avalon or the Impala LTZ(mileage thing applies here also). Enjoy your trip. :)
