Trip #8; But Was It Great? A WDW MAYcation with a side of LegoLand & Celebration, FL!

Well the Gulf of Mexico is pretty darn close to being the ocean!! :goodvibes A lot closer than Lake Erie is! :rotfl: What's Lake Erie like??? Um, well not turquoise water & white sand. It's huge, borders NY, PA, OH, MI, and Canada. Part of the Great Lakes. There are some nice beaches up on Presque Isle. http://www.presqueisle.org/

Yeah, it was weird feeling crappy at WDW. I was just like - this is NOT happening, this is the happiest place on Earth and I am NOT letting this sore throat get me down!!

IDK what was going on behind that facade thing. I heard painting maybe. But Sheila said it was up on her March trip and it was still up in May, so I don't know. That's a long time for painting. :confused3

I was thinking that too -- that it looks crowded in some of my MK pics, but it really wasn't! At least the wait times were not long.

Yes, we'll have to see if DS10 held up his end of the deal at Epcot!!

Thanks for the Presque Isle link. That's a really neat place! I'd never even heard of it before. I love how much I learn on the Dis!

Guess what DS10 & I just made for lunch???

TONGA TOAST!!!

And it was awesome! :cloud9:

Okay, so the first one didn't turn out so well. I think I had the oil too hot. :scared1:

But the next one turned out pretty good! :goodvibes

I am so impressed! :thumbsup2 I mean, that looks just like your pics of the real thing! Is the recipe on line?

That poor first try is so sad looking. Kind of like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree version of Tonga Toast. ;) I'm glad you shared both the hit and miss with us.

Well I am so glad that you were able to go to the MK even though you were feeling yucky. You'd never know you were sick in the pics-- you look nice!:flower3: When I am sick I look pretty much like death. :upsidedow

Glad your oldest was able to ride the HM and abolish the fear of it. Did he say it wasn't so bad afterwards? Can't wait to hear if DS10 rides Maelstrom.

I love riding POTC first. Call me crazy- we don't do it if we arrive in the mornings b/c we head to Fantasyland first-- but if we get there in the afternoons, it's always either Splash or POTC.

Great update!!

PS-- Teri--- you need a BFF/Sister to go on the cruise with you.:crazy2:

:duck:
:rotfl2:

You are a bad, bad girl. :rotfl:

Oh, and

First off... look at all the shorties who have come out of hiding here! It's been theraputic to know I am not alone. :rotfl:

Now, that Tonga Toast looks super yummy! An identical match to your pics from Kona I'd say! I must try that! Please share the recipe. You are totally NOT allowed to show such pictures without givin' up the secrets! ;)

I love making Disney meals too. I've made several over the years. Sometimes I use Disney recipes and sometimes we just eat off Disney themed paper plates. :upsidedow Either way, it's fun!

Oh, that Tongo toast looks so yummy. I keep meaning to try it and have promised myself I will do just that on our next trip. I have read other reports that say they thought the Tongo toast was too sweet and they couldn't eat more than half of it. Did you find it was too sweet or that they give you too much to finish because it's so sweet? (if that makes sense). Since DD23 wanted to try it too, I was wondering if we should order one order of Tongo Toast and then an order of something else like pancakes and share.

Good afternoon

How's everyone doing? Any big plans for the weekend?

I think everyone should make Tonga Toast!!

Recipe (From AllEars)
Tonga Toast
Kona Cafe
Polynesian Resort

Ingredients:

2 or 4 slices sourdough bread, cut 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick
1 banana
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
oil or shortening for frying
whipped butter and/or syrup

Method:

Cut a 1-inch pocket in one side of each bread slice. Cut banana in half crosswise, then split each piece lengthwise. Remove peel and stuff two pieces of fruit in each pocket of bread; set aside. Mix sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Mix together well the egg, milk and vanilla.

Heat about 4 inches of oil in a pan to 350º F. Dip stuffed bread into egg/milk mixture and let it soak a few seconds to let penetrate bread. Fry bread on both sides in hot oil until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels or wire rack. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and serve.

Yum! Tonga Toast!

:)

I'm glad you felt well enough to go to the Magic Kingdom. I HATE being sick on vacation, but it seems to happen if I'm out in the heat for too long, which is why it's better for me that DH makes me take a break every day at Disney.

Your boys definitely need to see the ocean soon. DH didn't see it until he was 24 years old, and I think he ended up liking hanging out on the beach better than Disney! I don't think I would have been able to convince him to try for Hawaii otherwise. His brother went to Florida for Spring Break once and told him that the ocean freaked him out. I don't really see how it's any different than standing in a field in Kansas, but then again my parents took us to the beach ALL the time when I was growing up.

That Tonga Toast looks lovely. It always sounds good, but I'm not a huge fan of cooked fruit, so I'm not sure I'd actually like it.

I am too. I would have been so bummed if we didn't make it to MK because of me!! I'm glad I perked up a bit and we went, it was such a great night. :goodvibes

Yes, we have got to get the boys to the ocean one of these days!

I never thought I'd like Tonga Toast before I tried it. I was thinking the banana cooked would be mushy, but it's not!

Thanks for the Presque Isle link. That's a really neat place! I'd never even heard of it before. I love how much I learn on the Dis!

You're welcome! :goodvibes If you ever come to PA I will take you there!!

I was impressed too! I never thought it would turn out so good. I wasn't going to post the pic of my first failed attempt, but it was too funny not to! :rotfl:

I know, me too!! :rotfl:

That was the first time I ever made a Disney recipe. I never thought it would taste like the real thing but it did! :goodvibes

I hope you get to try it on your next trip!! :cool1: That's probably a good idea to order it and something else not as sweet and then share. I know some people think it's too sweet, but I don't. It's like regular french toast, rolled in cinnamon sugar. Maybe the bread is a little richer too. I can finish a whole serving and that is very unlike me. I very rarely finish anything. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach. So for me to finish something it has to be very good! Now with that said, we usually go to Kona around 10am and then I don't eat again until about 5pm!

After we were done on the HM we went around the bend to FantasyLand. The line for Peter Pan was long. Like 40 minutes I think. :scared1: IASW was 15 so we got in line for it instead.

After IASW we took a look at the rest of Fantasyland and all the lines were pretty long. I quickly remembered why we always hit FL at RD. It gets nuts by the afternoon. :crazy2:

So we headed over to see what was open in the new section. We had heard that part of Dumbo was open and the Barnstormer was open. It was a long walk to get over there. I took lots of construction pics along the way.

The boys stopped to try to pull the sword up, but no luck once again! :upsidedow

Continued.....

There was a long pathway to the new circus themed area where Dumbo, the Barnstormer, and the Train Station are. With big red walls on each side. :scared1:

Dumbo had a long wait, 40 minutes I think. So we passed. Barnstormer was shorter, around 20 minutes. So we decided to ride it!

I tried to take pics of the construction on the Barnstormer, but it didn't work out so well. The ride is super short and it was over before I knew it and this was the only pic I got and I don't even know what it is!

After our ride we went over to the train station and got in line and took the train back to the Main Street Station.

I happened to notice these little peanut imprints on the ground by the train station.

This CM (in the picture below) was the rudest CM I have probably ever seen. He was yelling at people to move up. There were people in line, but it wasn't like it was super packed or anything. He kept very rudely yelling stuff like – move up or I'll be forced to close down this train station. People were just looking around at each other like – is he serious or is he just trying to make a joke??? :confused3 But it was clear that he was super grumpy and very serious. :( When the train came it pulled up and stopped. The gate where the CM opens it up to let people out to go to the train falls right about in the middle of the train. So you could see when the train passed you in line that there were seats towards the front. And people started to head that way. The CM screamed at them that if they didn't go towards the back of the train for seats he wouldn't let them on. :scared: Yes, I'm serious. It was the strangest thing I have ever seen at WDW. He was so mean and so demanding and there was no reason for it. I'd hate to see him on a busy day. People were even saying things to him like – there's no reason to be so rude. He just ignored them and kept on yelling and trying to herd people where he (for some reason  ) wanted them to be. By the time we got to the gate to go find a seat we were horrified and headed for the back so he wouldn't scream at us and there were very few seats to be found. We were lucky to find one for all of us. Meanwhile we knew all those seats towards the front were still open. Crazy! :sad2:

IDK if that guy was on some kind of power trip or what, but he sure does not need to be working at the happiest place on earth!! I really should have gotten his name and reported him.

Up Next: Meet & Greets and Tony's Town Square Dinner

Wow, there was a lot of construction going on! Too bad you didn't get to ride Dumbo. I also definitely think rope drop is the way to go in Fantasyland! :thumbsup2

I cannot believe the rude CM. What is with these kind of people?! :scared:

Holy Ugly Construction Walls, Batman! What a dang mess! I knew they were there. I knew they were bad. But between those and the big ugly blue bazooka thing on Main Street that's just wrong on so many levels.

And then throw in Mr Grumpy Old Man and you've got just a nightmare. Why in the world would he want a job there if he is so dang unhappy? Seems like the question on the job application "Work well with others?" might tip him off that he'd have people interaction all day. Geez what a freak.:crazy2:

I'm hoping that your dinner at Tony's is better with no run in's with nasty acting people.

:thumbsup2

Thanks for the Tongo Toast Tips, Shelly. It was a big help. Love your trip report and all the pics.

There sure was! :faint:

Maybe we'll get to ride Dumbo next time!

That guy was beyond rude!!

That was a lot of construction walls. It was UGLY!! :scared1:

Yeah, Mr Grumpy Pants needs an attitude adjustment that's for sure!! He's just lucky I wasn't in the mood to give him one!! :scared: :rotfl:

Tony's is coming up next. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the Tongo Toast Tips, Shelly. It was a big help. Love your trip report and all the pics.

You're welcome! :goodvibes

Subscribing! Beautiful family!

Welcome to the TR! :) And thank you!!

Thanks for the Tonga Toast recipe!:thumbsup2 I am going to save it to make when we come home from WDW. I want to try the "real thing" at the Poly before I attempt to make it on my own!

I can't believe how rude that CM was! We have encountered only a few rude CMs in all of our trips, and it is always disappointing to encounter one. One thing that I especially love at WDW is that everyone seems to love their job, with a few exceptions.

Hope you had a great weekend!:goodvibes

I can't believe how rude that CM was. Sounds like he needs to retire... again! It looks like that's his retirement job.
It's so amazing how crowded and busy it is in the afternoon. Some people just don't understand RD or just at least getting there early.
But that's ok w/ us!!! ;)

wow!!! What an aweful cast member you had the misfortune to have to come across :( How is he still working there??? I honestly can't see Disney finding that acceptable!! and why did he think everything was such a huge problem anyway?? disney is so good about making their line ups efficient that it should have all been just fine. I don't recall how the line up is for the train bc it's been so long since we were there but honestly - every other ride cue area is so well managed that the CM's don't really concern themselves with where people are standing.
Hope you were able to shake that negativity off real fast.

I'm sorry about the cranky CM.

The construction walls definitely aren't making me feel bad about being away from WDW for almost 2 years now. I can be fairly certain that it will be almost construction free for my next trip. :cool1:

Hey, those are the same ugly construction walls that we saw when we were there. It sounds like Mr. Grumpy didn't take his happy pills that day! I know that we all have "off days" where we just wanna fuss at everybody but you can't do that when you work at the Happiest Place on Earth.
