Bye Bye Tomorrowland Speedway

Hi there,

I haven't been on the boards lately and this could be old news, although I was told by a construction manager that the decision has been made to tear up the Speedway and make way for a Lightning McQueen Ride????? sometime starting in 2013 ending 2014.

Just as well, I rode it the other day.

A lot of people might like that but it would not fit at all in a Tomorrowland theme. My guess? Ain't happenin'!

I would be very surprised if this happened, given the hundreds of millions of dollars Disney is currently pouring into the FLE, which will be completed in 2014, and then the already announced planning for the new land in AK.

It makes sense, which is why so many have suggested it over the last few years. Not saying it won't happen, but I'd be shocked if the timing was that soon.

Kids love this ride just as it is. No reason to fix what aint broke!

I can't believe they'd spend money on this when there are so many things they cut.

Surprising if true...even though this is what they should do. Granted, I would even just be in favor of them just adding a facelift incorporating cars instead of creating a whole new attraction.

NOT that I wouldn't be head over heels to see the Speedway hit the bricks. I don't think it needs to be like RSR...I think DCA deserves to keep that one unique to just that park. I would MUCH prefer to see a TRON themed ride there that uses better tech and effects to allow guests to kind of do what the Speedway does...drive a vehicle, or in this case a lightcycle through the grid and race others etc. THAT would fit the bill for TOMORROWland...not Cars.

Still, I don't buy it.

The rumored TLE had a TRON lightcycle coaster, so I wouldn't be surprised if it replaced the speedway.

If it is true, I can assure you that my 5 yr old son will be tickled happy to ride a
Lightning McQueen Ride!! Cars is one of his favorite Disney movies!
