"I Don't Wanna Meet Mickey In a Frumpin' Poncho!" An August 2011 TR! COMPLETE 11/30

Chapter 10- "Aruba, Jamaica, Ooh I Wanna Take Ya.." Part 2!

August 18th, 2011

Hello there DIS friends! I just realized that I never posted the second half of this update, so I will do that now! In life news, there are ONLY 16 DAYS until princessallie and I will be frumpin' around DISNEY WORLD!!!! I cannot contain my excitement much longer. The days between now and then better FLY!!!! Also, I think that it's super ironic that the name of this two-part update is a Beach Boys song because JESS AND I ARE GOING TO SEE THEM TOMORROW! We discovered that they had a concert near us a couple days ago, so we ordered tickets because we both grew up listening to their music and seeing them on Full House. We really wanted to see them in person at some point, so of course we're going together! I can't WAIT! What a great summer activity, right?

And now, back to Disney pre-Jess!

We hung out on the beach at the Poly, and I got a little photo-happy. Those surroundings were just so inspiring!

The beautiful Grand Floridian was majestically calling to me from across the Lagoon.

We saw a lovely resort launch sailing by:

Disney transportation. <3 <3 <3

I will stay there one day if it is the last thing I do! Gotta go out with a bang, right?

The Wedding Pavilion looked elegant as always. How I hope to get married there one day...
imagegyuf.jpg

While Mom and I were mesmerized by the view, Scott took his chance and found himself a nice chill spot:
imagesuo.jpg

imagenwyc.jpg

Don't you all wish you were him right now?? ME TOO.

Sarah and I wandered up and down the beach a little.

imagehmj.jpg

imageanwx.jpg

imageiuz.jpg

Ahhh I just love it so much. PARADISE.

Sarah reunited with Scott and they shared a siesta and a hammock.
imagebez.jpg

WHADDYAH DOIN' SCOTT!?!?! DON'T YOU KNOW THERE'S NO SLEEPING IN DISNEY!?

Clearly someone needs to inform him of the rules...

Don't worry, that didn't last long.

After we were done obsessing over the Poly and talking about how we would love to stay there someday, we headed back up to sand-free land and rinsed our feet via this Tiki god shower:
imagexzieo.jpg

Then we decided to check out what the first floor of the Great Ceremonial House had to offer.

imagehwp.jpg

imageiaab.jpg

Some really awesome rugs by the looks of things!

We went into Wyland Galleries, where my mom saw a flower necklace that she had her eye on until almost the end of the trip, when Scott caved and bought it for her. It was beautiful and she wears it all the time!

Afterward, we went into Boutiki, where Sarah bought a Polynesian resort travel mug and I bought a charm for my necklace. On the way out, we had a little fun with this guy:

imagejvl.jpg

We're big frumps.

We headed up to the monorail station and rode ma love back to the Magic Kingdom.

imageuamb.jpg

imagedim.jpg

From there, we waited about five minutes for a bus back to Coronado Springs. Since CSR was the first bus stop, it wasn't a far walk from the monorail station, which was great because we were all still full from Kona!

While we were on the bus, a British lady noticed my UK nail and asked if I was from England. I told her that I wasn't in my icky American accent, but she still thought my nail was great.

When the bus stopped at Casitas (which is the first stop when returning from a park) Scott and Sarah got off and headed to the pool, while mom and I rode around to El Centro. We had to sort out the moving rooms situation once our free dining reservation started. We waited for a little while at Registration, but the nice CM told us that we would be moving to Casitas 5 with a lake view the following day. Perfect! While we were at El Centro, we met a really nice couple who were celebrating their 40th anniversary at Disney! They come every year to celebrate and they seemed to be having a lot of fun! They were so cute.

Mom and I walked around Panchito's for a little while and then we went back to the room to get cleaned up.

On the way, we took some lovely photos of the topiaries and Casitas.

Once we were cleaned up and got Sarah all cleaned up from the pool, we said goodbye to Scott in his poolside lounge chair and set off on a girls only adventure!

dsc04378d.jpg

We waited about ten minutes for a bus and were on our way BACK to the Magic Kingdom!

We got there and headed for the boat dock, but the boat there was pulling away, so up to the monorail station it was!

We reached our destination at about 2:15 pm! From there, where will we go? Stay tuned!

Chapter 11- A Most Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Afternoon

August 18th, 2011

When we got to the Grand Floridian, we made our way inside and downstairs, snapping away at the gorgeous lobby as we went.

We saw some characters in the floor on the way! I love that the Grand Floridian has this! It's such a great Disney touch in the midst of all the elegance.

We saw Cinderella and Prince Charming, and also Mrs. Potts:
dsc04440x.jpg

And Chip!
dsc04383y.jpg

Those last two sort of give away our plans for the afternoon...we had a reservation for afternoon tea at the Garden View Tea Room! This was a first for all of us and has since become a yearly tradition!

We checked in and were told that our reservation said 3:20, not 2:!5, even though that was wrong. The cast member said that it must have been a glitch and seated us right away!

We were seated in the middle of the small tea lounge on some really comfy couches and chairs. We had a lovely view of the GF grounds from out the windows:
dsc04386l.jpg

dsc04393x.jpg

Joe from Baton Rouge was our server and he was excellent! He took our tea orders and told us that he would bring what came with our tea following that. We ordered the Buckingham Tea, so sandwiches, scones and biscuits, a pastry and the tea of our choice were included! It was a great value!

Mom ordered the Cassis tea, which has a rich black current flavor and a sweet finish. She loved it! The aroma it gave off was incredible. I want it in a candle.

Sarah ordered the Eros tea, which has a sweet Mandarin orange and smooth vanilla flavor- two of her favorite things! She adored her tea and said it was so creamy and delicious!

I ordered the Mad Hatter tea, and not just because of the inviting name! This tea is a blend of pomegranate, passion fruit and vanilla. It was very fresh and sweet. The finish was very clean and it complemented everything I ate very well. Definitely a tea made for me!

Joe brought our teas after a few minutes, and they were served in china that my mom actually owns! She was so excited, and she and Joe discussed fine china for a couple minutes.

dsc04407k.jpg

dsc04404o.jpg

He also brought us some cream and sugar cubes, which Sarah was delighted about! That girl has SUCH a sweet tooth!

dsc04392f.jpg

Here we are enjoying our tea and the upscale atmosphere:
dscn0039md.jpg

dscn0038c.jpg

Sarah's a huge frump. It's so great.

Yay for a girls afternoon!

dscn0035h.jpg

Next Joe brought out tartlets and biscuits! He even brought over little jars of jam and honey! They were so cute!

dsc04414w.jpg

The white stuff that they came with is not butter, but is actually a French condiment called creme fraiche, which is creamy and very flavorful and often tops of soups or accompanies breads and baked items.

We enjoyed those and our tea, which Joe refilled promptly and when needed, for a while. He brought our tea sandwiches after about twenty minutes or so. It was a nice span of time because it gave us a chance to just relax and chat.

dsc04408u.jpg

From left to right: pear and gorgonzola, (YUM) shrimp salad, (YUM) chicken salad, (YUM) egg salad, (YUM) and watercress. (THE YUMMIEST!!) The little thing in the front is an onion tartlet, which may have been one of the best things I have ever put into my mouth. Everything was really delicious, but the watercress sandwich and the onion tartlet were definitely my favorites!

We thoroughly enjoyed those and gobbled 'em all up! Joe came around with more tea and to take our dessert orders. Sarah ordered the strawberries and cream, which she declared delicious! The strawberries were super fresh and the whipped cream was light and sweet! Perfect!

dsc04424f.jpg

dsc04427s.jpg

My mom and I ordered off of the pastry plate. She ordered a chocolate filled eclair and a fruit tart. I ordered the same fruit tart and a citrus cake with some REAL good frosting and a cute flower design. We both loved our desserts! They were absolutely perfect and beautiful.

dsc04422l.jpg

dsc04430um.jpg

After we finished our desserts, we sipped our tea for a few minutes, paid, thanked Joe, and went to explore the Grand Floridian.

As far as the tea overall is concerned, I definitely recommend this to moms and daughters or any group of gals who want to have an afternoon out and enjoy a beautiful setting, wonderful service and great food and drink!

We went into Summer Lace, which is a very classy shop with some very Grand price tags. We looked around, but when presented with the choice to either buy something or pay our mortgage, we decided to duck out.

We took the cool elevator in the lobby up to the second floor because we're THAT lazy. A nice cast member offered to take our picture!
dscn0045d.jpg

We went into Basin and looked around. We sampled a ton of stuff and I vowed that I would totally buy stuff from there and bring it to my room if I stayed at the Grand Floridian ever. Sigh...some day.

dsc04465yc.jpg

After that we went into Mickey Mouse Mercantile, AKA my favorite store on Disney property! I love it because the windows go from floor to ceiling and arch, and because you're so high up, you feel like you're in a doll house! I have always loved it there. I asked my mom to take my picture with my beloved windows:
dsc04451es.jpg

Just look at the lovely views from my doll house!
dsc04453h.jpg

dsc04449yl.jpg

After that I made a very monumental DISer decision that would come to play a huge role in my life later on! What was it? Stay tuned and I swear I'll tell ya!

Everything about this update was classy and all I could think about was Friends.

"Tartlets... tartlets." Hahaha.

And you may or may not even recognize the quote, so basically this comment is pointless. But HERE IT IS ANYWAY. :thumbsup2

Love the pictures! :)

You're right, that's a great pic of you, your mom & Sarah! and I love the tropical flower pics. The Poly is Disney's paradise. Well, Disney as a whole is paradise... so I guess the Poly is paradise inside the paradise.

I love that you guys are going to see the Beach Boys. I'm sure it will be awesome. I hope Uncle Jesse shows up!

"Disney pre-Jess"... haha. It's so weird to think that you were just hangin out at Disney with no idea you were about to get a huge surprise soon!

hahaha Scott's face in that pic with the tiki guy is hilarious!

"my icky American accent" LOL

Aww, 40 year anniversary at Disney! That is the cutest thing ever. If I can find someone to marry my frump self that will sooo be us on our 40th.

I love that your mom has the same china as the GF! That's actually the least frumpy thing I've ever heard. LOL.

I love Mickey Mouse Mercantile too! From now on I will always think of it as your doll house, haha!!

I love wandering around the resorts too, they're always so fun to explore!

I've always wanted to do the tea at the GF, one of these days I'll have to! Everything looks so good!! :thumbsup2

The afternoon tea party looked wonderful! Oh, how I wish I could do a girls only trip. It would be so much more relaxing than my trip with my guys:rotfl:
I have to make a point to go over to the GF. Except for monorail stops, I have only been there one time. We ate at Flaglers which was an Italian restaurant which has since been replaced by Citricos.

I'm practically drooling over all the resort pictures!

The GF ones look like postcards!

I am so doing an afternoon tea if/when I ever have a daughter, heck, if I don't get a daughter, then I'll drag my son! :rotfl2: I have to add this to my list of to-dos.

Hey Kristen,
How long on average does it take to do you and Jess' nails? And how do you do them? Do you use ike nail art pens? Thanks!princess:

The tea sounds adorable!:goodvibes the GF is just too beautiful as is the Poly but on different levels. Good choice regarding your mortgage :thumbsup2:lmao:

I love all of your pictures, and I can't wait to hear about your monumental decision!!

I hope to one day do the tea with my mom! We've been to tea in NYC before, and she really loved it. I think it'd be such a nice treat for her, that and the Behind the Seeds tour! Mmm, I want to try that onion tartlet! Haha, out of ALL things, that's the one thing that intrigues me the most every time I see it in a TR!

You should! It was so worth it! We loved it!

Hey Kristen,
How long on average does it take to do you and Jess' nails? And how do you do them? Do you use ike nail art pens? Thanks!princess:

Hey there! It can take between 2 to 4 or even 4 and a half hours depending on how intricate we get with it. We use polishes, nail pens, thin brushes, tools, and LOTS of patience! We're actually working on some tutorial videos right now, so we should get those up for y'all by the end of the summer!

The tea sounds adorable!:goodvibes the GF is just too beautiful as is the Poly but on different levels. Good choice regarding your mortgage :thumbsup2:lmao:

It was so cute! And so fun! I love both of those resorts, but I agree that they are VERY different. I would LOVE to stay at either of them! LOL thanks. We kinda had to save that money for food and water and college, ya know.

Okay, thanks for that....now I have to go see if they have any tea reservations available when I'm there. Thanks alot! ;)

Hahaha no problem, hope ya find one! :)

Oh, I love the Poly so much!! It very well may be my favorite resort, but then again, I love POFQ so so so so so much!! I can't decide!

I hope you can! It's so fun! I did the Behind the Seeds tour when I was younger, but I don't really remember much of it. I would love to do it again sometime though! The onion tarlet was to DIE for. Sooooo good!
