Heading in to Boston to see the tall ships! I will be thinking about our big ship though! Have a great weekend everyone!

So my dh and I got out for dinner tonight and we're discussing the cruise. We've always flown from JFK to Orlando but this time we were considering driving for the first time. When I got home I cked Jetblue but I guess they don't have tickets that far in advance yet. So I put my info for my family of 4 in and got prices of $2,000.00+ :scared1: omG, I never had to pay that...wth??

I have been waiting for Jetblue to go past that Feb 13 date.... Driving down to WDW in 2 weeks thought of it in Feb but don't want to chance it with weather...

We take our vacation every President's week because DW is a school nurse. We always have to pay quite a bit more for that week! At least it is just us two this time.
We have had good luck with Southwest. They open their schedule on July 9.
Our daughter has had good luck on Jet Blue out of White Plains. Waiting on their schedule to open. Gotta figure it will be around the same time.

Good Luck!

Rob

We too have gone to WDW or Disneyland each Presidents Week for years.

Flights to WDW from the northeast can be crazy expensive since school up here are off all week (and the airlines know it). Prices to DL aren't nearly as bad as WDW.

The way we have coped w high prices in the past have included flying out of airports that are not in NY or north of NY (since these states are generally off for the week). We have flown out of Baltimore, Allentown and Philly and have saved a bundle. We have also needed to be flexible re: flight times and dates. What is scary is that for this cruise we cant be as flexible re: the dates and times.

I normally dont buy airfare very far in advance, but for this cruise, I will have to make an exception to the rule... unless we try to drive. But we'd have to pull the kids out school on Friday (or at least a half day) to make it to port in time).

This is the one part I will dread about this trip - overpaying for airfare.

Agree... My wife is a teacher so there was one thought I had if we kept the kids home on Friday and the 3 of us drive down on Friday and have my wife take a one way flight from either Bradley or Providence to somewhere in the Carolina's and pick her up Friday evening or let her fly into MCO Saturday morning and I do the whole drive down with the kids...

Even if we were to fly, we would make our children take off the Friday before. I once flew in on the day OF the cruise and would never do that again. Delays can make you miss the cruise (day of). IFFFFFF we definitely do drive (kids are taking off Friday) we are going to drive out on Thursday night. Probably after dinner (7ish) because there won't be traffic at that time. The kids will have to endure being bored (ipods, texting)for about 4-5 hrs till they fall asleep then they will sleep at least 6 hrs in the car (at home they'd sleep 10 hrs lol) and then finish the drive. Get to a hotel around noon (Friday) and sleep, eat, pool or whatever. Just want to be well rested for Saturday. That's what dh & I have discussed so far. BTW, I STILL haven't picked booked a hotel close to port. I want to stay at a nice clean park and ride. :confused3

This is what we are doing next week (12th) driving for WDW staying Friday afternoon/night in Jacksonville and driving into Orlando on Saturday. Still debating driving the Honda Fit or the Honda Odyssey extra fuel costs vs extra room no kids fighting for 20+ hours granted 8-10 of the hours they will be asleep

omG, John :scared1: 20+ hrs??!! My dh told me it would take us (from Staten Island, NY) around 14 hrs. I don't know where he got this info from or if it's even correct but I'm hoping it's no longer than that because my 12 and 13 yr old daughters complain after driving 2 hrs to PA

Don't forget on a good day I am 1.5-2 hrs north of you on 95 in CT so your husband is right Including Fuel/potty breaks

Clinton, CT to JAX 17 hrs Jax-WDW 2.5 hrs

I'm marking my calendar for July 9 to check on flights when they open up. We always fly down a day early so I was already planning on taking DS out of school on the 15th, plus that's his Birthday :thumbsup2. I'm hoping to talk DH into going down a couple of days early to spend some time at WDW, so it looks like I have a week to do that!

Unfortunately, we are going to have to cancel this cruise. My husband has some health issues and is becoming a little more symptomatic than we would like. We are going to do the parks again while he is able to enjoy them.

Hope everyone has a great trip!!

On July 9th, SWA is planning to open their schedule through February 13. So if you're planning to fly on Thursday (14th) or Friday (15th) before the cruise, we have longer to wait for SWA's schedule.

Sorry to hear that! :sad1:

14 is a bit optimistic from SI. We have driven a few times from lower Westchester (think close to co-op city in the bronx). I would say its closer to 18 hours at best to WDW. Maybe one hour less from SI vs here. I find it best to leave in the evening or late at nite. My basic tenents are... the more the kids sleep the better (fewer potty breaks neede) and you want to arrive in daylight (assuming you are driving straight thru... arriving in the dark after 18 hours of driving is bad bad bad).

Mapquest says its 17hrs and 20 mins from the Outerbridge to Port Canaveral. Mapquest has you going around DC, Richmond and Jacksonville... which I dont bother doing if you leave at the right time (cut right across each).

Unfortunately, we are going to have to cancel this cruise. My husband has some health issues and is becoming a little more symptomatic than we would like. We are going to do the parks again while he is able to enjoy them.

Hope everyone has a great trip!!

Best wishes and a speedy recovery!

Thanks for all the well wishes.

My husband has Lupus and this year has been a little more difficult with a few more scares than we would have liked. I am so proud of him though as he fights it everyday and never complains.
