Your ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE to Disney World at Christmas Time! UPDATE x2 10/21

Everytime I think I couldn't possibly be more excited about staying at POFQ with my mom, you help me get EVEN MORE excited! Thank you! :goodvibes

Beignets. How do I adore thee? Let me count the ways... sugar, fried dough, sugar, sugar, sugar...ahhh :lovestruc

I love that you went down the frumpy dragon slide. It looks fun!

Wow, there's a towel creature party going on in your room!

OMG. I have been literally dying to try beignets since I first saw Princess and the Frog... 2 1/2 years ago! DANG those things look fantastic!!!

That pool area looks wonderful! I can't believe how nice the weather was in December. Wasn't it just perfect?

Those towel creations are the cutest things ever! Precious!

Love the updates- your posting schedule sounds fantastic! Your trip reports are holding me over until my hubby and I finally go back in like 11 months (ugh, it is so long to wait!)

I haven't been commenting much lately but I have been reading and enjoying! It is fun to see your POFQ pics because that is where we stayed when I was in like 3rd grade. Obvi I have got to get back there and try those beignets!!

I like seeing your pins too- since I became obsessed with pin trading on our last trip, it is fun seeing which ones you get! That little boy you traded with sounded super cute! I had a little girl ask to trade with me in line for Space Mtn, and of course she wanted the Stitch pin I loved and had just traded for, but I had to trade her because she asked so sweetly and I knew it would make her day. It is fun to spread the magic!

Can't wait to read the next update!

While I was waiting for everyone else, I took a little inventory picture of my most recent pins! In this picture you can see my baby Jasmine pin from our CM friend from Hollywood, and then the Chip and Dale pins from the adorable little boy. As well as some fastpasses (Rock N Roller Coaster and Soarin') and other random ones that I liked.

I love your pins, they are just so cute. We have that very same Minnie pin, she just looks adorable :cutie:. That Cinderella pin is awesome, did you buy it or trade for it, I always have my eyes peeled for princesses.

Haha yeah I feel like that's how I will feel once I finally watch them too.

The towel animals are adorable! I love what the mousekeepers did to the toothbrushes. Cute!

Thank you! Yeah they went crazy - there were so many little towel animals!

Everytime I think I couldn't possibly be more excited about staying at POFQ with my mom, you help me get EVEN MORE excited! Thank you! :goodvibes

They really were adorable!

Thank you! Gahh I'm SO obsessed with pin trading. I'm glad you like seeing them! I'll continue to post pictures! He was SO adorable!! And aww that's SO nice of you! I hate being in those situations when you really want to keep a pin but a kid is asking you so politely.
Thank you!

I love your pins, they are just so cute. We have that very same Minnie pin, she just looks adorable :cutie:. That Cinderella pin is awesome, did you buy it or trade for it, I always have my eyes peeled for princesses.

Thank you! She does look really cute! And I traded for that one! I love princess pins too!

Hi Jess. Congrats on your trip to Disneyland! Here are some ideas I wanted to share with you. I live in California and for most of the last four years, my family and I have had annual passes. We had to let them run out in order to help save for Disneyworld but I want to give you my perspective on what you should do while you are here.

First of all, I think while you will be here for 8 (!) days, you can pretty much do everything you want to do in Disneyland and DCA in about 5 days. Well, not everything but most stuff you want to accomplish. Here are some suggestions I can think of.

The Mountains in Disneyland are as cool, if not cooler than the ones in WDW. I won't know for sure for a couple of weeks, but I've heard that DL's Space Mountain is the superior one. I doubt you'll find much difference in Big Thunder or Splash but remember, we have another mountain! The Matterhorn is a cool old mountain which had a rickety old roller coaster running through it.

It's the first ever steel roller coaster in the world and was a Walt Disney inspired creation! Also, there's a Yeti inside, he has a name. His name is Harold. Please say hi to Harold as you pass by!

Indiana Jones is a truly awesome ride with great music and awesome effects. This is one that you should get a fastpass for but remember to check out the details in the queue rather than just running through. They are pretty cool.

The Tiki Room here in California was also inspired by Walt Disney himself. You can buy a Dole Whip (I prefer the Dole Whip Floats, btw) and drink/eat it while you watch the show. I find this to be one of the greatest things ever and know that I will miss it when I go to Florida. Also, remember, if you like Dole Whips, always buy it from the dole whip stand inside the Tiki room waiting area even if you aren't going to see the show. The line is always fairly short inside there.

I'm not a huge fan of Finding Nemo Submarines but a lot of people like them. I have to issue a warning that if you or anyone in your party is claustrophobic, this might be the ride for you. Try to hit the ride first thing in the morning if you decide to do it. It's worth doing once at least.

Fantasyland is just cool all the way around out here:

1) Dark rides that aren't in Florida like Pinocchio and Alice in Wonderland are must rides. Alice is especially a great ride.

2) Dark rides that used to be in Florida are worth riding too. Snow White just got retired, so knock yourself out and Mr. Toad is an absolute must and my personal favorite Dark Ride in all of DLR (maybe tied with Little Mermaid in DCA)

3) Storybook Canal ride is a very quaint little ride with a lot of history. Casey Jr. Circus train goes around the very same area.. and don't forget the castle tour. It's a hidden gem and tells the story behind Sleeping Beauty in a nice way.

4) The Tea Cups are especially pretty to look at at night. They are also slow loaders but if you near them in the evening, it's always a wonderful picture.

5) It's a Small World is technically in Fantasyland but where it actually sits, it's like it's a land unto itself. It's worth checking out the very cool show building and looking for Disney characters inside the ride itself.

Mickey's Toon Town has a ride that you should probably try to ride at least once called Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin. It's a fun ride but it's not worth waiting for 40 minutes or whatever the wait times get on it. I'd try to hit it early in the day or get a fastpass (remember, so far Disneyland is NOT enforcing the end times of the fastpasses, just saying!)

New Orleans Square is a treat unto itself. There is great music throughout the region. The Royal Street Bachelors perform lots of fun old jazz inside the French Quarter. Of course, we have the two best attractions in all of Disneyland here in the Pirates of Carribean and Haunted Mansion. Both of them are a little different outside but probably not much different than you remember inside.

This is also where you have to wait to see Fantasmic. It is worth seeing and I recommend getting a bread bowl (there are two different places to get bread bowels in New Orleans square) while you sit on the hard brick waiting for it. I recommend seeing the second show if possible.

As for Main Street, the two things I would most recommend are Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (the whole experience in the building that houses it is pretty cool) and the movie theatre which plays old Mickey cartoons on all sides. It's a wonderful place for getting out of the heat. I've gone in there numerous times and dozed while the kids enjoyed the cartoons.

that's Disneyland, I'll do DCA and what I know about the rest of the resort on another post.

DCA

Ok, here are some tips for DCA. Now, just to be sure, these are from prior to Carsland and Bueno Vista Street, both of which have changed things. Once again, this if from my family's (and my) point of view.

If you like Soarin', this is the original. The queue's nothing special but if you're there for eight days, what the heck. Also, they have a cute little show there called "Minnie's Fly Girls".

With Grizzly River Rapids, it's best if you go on that ride (as often as possible) when you are staying at the Grand Californian so you can just run back to your room and change. The entrance to the Grand is right next to the ride. Also, they have 'free' lockers right near by to store your valuables for a short time.

In Paradise Pier, the following are must do's:

1) First if you like Toy Story Midway Mania, realize that there is NO FASTPASS for this ride in California. You need to get their early. I seriously doubt Carsland would change that fact much.

2) Ariel's Undersea Adventure is gorgeous. You should try to go on the ride later in the evening when World of Color is playing.

3) My family LOVES the Silly Symphony Swings but the question is how much can you and your party handle going around and around.

Over in what will now be Hollywoodland:

1) Monsters Inc, Mike and Sully to the rescue is a very cute little dark ride. If you're a fan of the Monsters, this is a must do.

2) Obviously you have to try our version of Tower of Terror

3) The Animation building is beautiful! If you have the time, find yourself a spot and sit in there for about 45 minutes or so. The music and the animation from so many of the classic Disney films will be playing all around.

Having said all that, there is going to be so much more when Carsland and Buena Vista Street come around. You need to find a way to ride Radiator Springs racers as often as possible. Experiencing Carsland both day and night are absolute musts.

I can't even get over the cuteness of those towels!!!!
great update! great pics!
I had to go on the BW slide when my mom and i went!! couldn't help myself!

I've been reading your reports without comment for several months now, but for some reason, today I decided to post.

I just wanted to say that I live in central Florida (about an hour from MK) and your trip reports still get me excited about the parks! I really like reading your resort details because since I moved here I don't get to stay at them as much.

I haven't done a lot of looking, but of the ones I've checked out, your reports are the most detailed! Lots of pictures and descriptions, it's really wonderful!

I hope I get to meet you as Jasmine someday!

Oh my gosh, don't you just love DHS? Its my favorite...seriously, I swear, I always encounter the most pixie dust in that park! It's just so great!! Every time I go there, it just gets better and better and it looks like it's the same for you!!

I love that you went on the frumpy dragon slides. How adorable is that? I love slides!! Who cares how little or big it is...it's a SLIDE and values don't have those. So splendid.

YAY for going to Disneyland! Surprisingly where I live, the majority of the people go to Disneyland and never WDW. So I can always find out a lot of DL tips if you need more, though I don't know them myself! Hopefully one day I can make my way over there. I have family in CA too, so you would think that I would make my way to DL too! So excited. It's basically the best thing ever that you are staying in all the hotels too. CAN'T wait for that tr. You have so much pixie dust in your life!

YAY MORE FRENCH QUARTER PICS! I will be sleeping (or watching Stacey because I can't sleep) there EXACTLY ONE MONTH FROM RIGHT NOW AHHHHH.

Quesadillas and a "Create Your Own" salad station? Clearly, we chose the correct resort. Oh, and beignets. How can I forget the beignets?

The pool looks so bright and cheery! I will definitely have to go down the frumpy dragon slide in your honor. :thumbsup2

AHHHHH I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK TO DISNEY! AND I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR MORE ABOUT YOUR TRIP(S)! AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO GO TO DISNEYLAND! I feel like my brain is going to explode into a mountain of pixie dust from all the Disney-ing that will occur this summer. Seriously. :yay: :cool1: :woohoo:

Oh my gosh, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to write out all of those tips for me!! That was so nice of you, and I appreciate it so much! I will definitely be printing those out and taking them with me. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

I hope you have a great trip to WDW! Let me know if you ever have any questions about it, I would be more than happy to answer them for you!

Chapter 50: Dinnertime!
December 23rd, 2011

Oh my gosh, I can't believe we're already on Chapter 50!! I hope you guys are still holding up out there. We still have quite a while to go on this trip report. But I promise there are even better stories to be told as the trip report progresses! I really appreciate you being here!

So after watching a few loops of Stacey, it was about 4 o'clock. That meant it was time to go!

I tweeted:
I have my toy story shirt on and my lanyard full of pins... Im a frump and I'm ready to go!!! :-)

We hopped in the car and drove back to Hollywood Studios!

img1195xe.jpg

Jon and I went straight to Toy Story Mania!

img1200hj.jpg

We were sent up the special 2 person gate again - SCORE!

img1196q.jpg

I got 170,000! That's a HUGE improvement from that morning.

TOY STORY MANIA RIDE COUNT: 3

"Periwinkle! It's the best crayon!!" I had to take this picture for Kristen and Dan. (August video reference, again. Can you tell we have some crayon fans in the group?)

img1197eo.jpg

Once we exited the ride, I MADE THE BEST PIN TRADE OF MY LIFE.

I tweeted at Kristen, Lia, and Kara:
I JUST GOT A MAELSTROM FASTPASS PIN HAHAHA

img1201t.jpg

Yes, people. A MAELSTROM FASTPASS PIN. Seriously. I couldn't even believe it. I don't think you all understand how important that pin is to me. Just imagine how much money it's worth!!! (lol) And the cast member I traded with was standing outside of Toy Story Mania. It could not have been more perfect!

Dad and I went to Rock N Rollercoaster next! Thank goodness we got all of our fastpasses that morning. (I am so sad that they changed the rule now. I don't WANT to return during my alotted fastpass window. Grr.)

Our fastpass saved us at Rock N Roller Coaster because the line was SUPER long. It took about 20 minutes with our fastpasses, so I can only imagine the standby.

While we were on the ride, Mom got a Pineapple Popsicle and Jonathan got a Churro to munch on. They sat across from Beverly Sweets while they waited for us. Unfortunately, they didn't take pictures of their food. *Sigh* you would think they'd know by now.

Once we were done with our ride, we decided to walk over to the Beach Club for dinner! We walked on that pathway again, but this time the sun was setting. It was SO pretty!

img1215wz.jpg

Disney at dusk. Such a beautiful sight.

IT'S THE FISH!

This is the bridge over near the Swan and Dolphin. (aka the Swank and Fish)

The Boardwalk!

dsc0575y.jpg

Ah, there's the Yacht/Beach Club!

dsc0577b.jpg

It took about 20 minutes to walk there from Hollywood Studios.
dsc0578xv.jpg

I had to take LOTS of nighttime pictures because the resort looked so pretty!

dsc0580i.jpg

My Mother and Me :-)

dsc0581y.jpg

I LOVE THIS RESORT! I don't know if I've ever mentioned that before to you guys. (Oh wait...)

dsc0582v.jpg

dsc0583p.jpg

dsc0584pz.jpg

I don't think it's possible to get sick of this view.

dsc0585c.jpg

We were finally making our way to the actual building.

dsc0586l.jpg

Time to go inside!

dsc0588a.jpg

We would be dining at Cape May Cafe tonight! We checked in at 6 o'clock!

dsc0589mb.jpg

As you all probably remember, the gingerbread carousel is in the Beach Club lobby. They also had a little gingerbread shop, which I took a picture of on this night:

dsc0591vo.jpg

At 6:09 pm we were called to our table! The hostess who walked us to our table told me she loved my Woody shirt! She said that she watched Toy Story 2 earlier that day. We bonded over Toy Story.

We were seated in the middle of the dining room under the little house-like structure.

dsc0615ul.jpg

Our waiter's name was Adam. He was from Morocco and he did the international college program. So he gave us the rundown. He said that you don't make a lot of money, but you meet great people and it's a fantastic experience. You have to be very hard-working and not a huge complainer to survive the program. However, it's really worth it because then you can put Disney on your resume! He highly recommended that I do it because he could sense my enthusiasm. He also said that he just got his US Citizenship! He told us all about Morocco and how everything is so beautiful there. It's also very inexpensive.

Clearly, he was a wonderful waiter and he chatted quite a lot with us. We loved the service already!

Then it was time for the FOOD! Starting off with a nice Caesar Salad:

Shrimp, Pasta Salads, Potatoes, etc.

Alright, those are my few pictures of the buffet. Sorry they're not the best, but clearly I was in a rush to start eating food!

I took plenty of pictures of our individual plates!

I'm guessing this is my Mom's plate because I have NO idea what that red stuff is in the front left. All I can pick out is the Caesar Salad, some Cantaloupe, and shrimp!

EDIT: Hello there, it's Kristen. Being the foodie that I am and the type of person who will eat anything that you put in front of me, I can tell you that the "red stuff" is actually quinoa. Looks like some hearts of palm in there as well. It's quite delicious!

Sa-LAD. (Another SpongeBob reference. Seriously, I don't know what's up with me lately. I swear I haven't watched that show in years! hahaha)

dsc0603bx.jpg

This looks like it could be Jonathan's plate. Caesar Salad and Crab Legs! (And the little cup is filled with melted butter for the crab) Solid choices.

dsc0604w.jpg

Oh well... clearly this is my plate.

dsc0605on.jpg

Let's see, I'm just going to list out all of my food and notes for you guys.
- Garlic Roll: Absolutely divine. It was SUPER soft!
- Crab Legs: they were AMAZING! That's the huge reason people really come to this buffet. Not only do you get unlimited crab legs, but you get a whole buffet of food as well! It's well worth the price just for this fact. Everytime a new pan of crab legs would come out on the buffet they would be gone within minutes!
- Melted Butter: buttery.
- Green Beans: I specifically noted that they were REALLY GOOD!
- A Fish Nugget
- Cesar Salad
- Corn Bread: this was dry, unfortunately
- Potatoes: a little salty
- And last but not least, the Prime Rib: this was delicious and tender!

I'm gonna guess that I ate most, if not all of the food on this plate. The only thing I probably didn't finish was like... the cornbread or something.

OH BOY, MY SECOND PLATE! (seriously, how do I eat this much food?! I'm sure you all are laughing at me and simultaneously wondering how I'm not morbidly obese. Yeah... I have yet to figure out that answer too.)

dsc0606ac.jpg

List time!

- In the back right corner there's some New England Clam Chowder: YUM! That seriously is my favorite type of soup/chowder of all time. However, it's SO bad for you so I rarely ever eat it. That night, though, was the exception. I was beyond happy with that decision!
- Now if you look at the plate I have more Green Beans, which I obviously was a huge fan of.
- Crab Legs, again! NOM NOM NOM.
- DISNEY PIZZA: yes, it's made out of the same ingredients as the personal pan pizza found at most Disney quick service locations. It was just baked as a large pizza size and cut into little slices for the kid's station!
- Mashed Potatoes: YUM!
- And lastly, Pasta: YUM AGAIN! YAY MORE CARBS!

Mmmm. ♥ ♥ ♥

I posted on twitter:
I need to learn to control myself at buffets.... Jk that's a lost cause #capemay

Lia, being the completely understanding Diser that she is, responded by saying:
LOL we will never learn to control ourselves at disney in any way. #frumps

And I said back to her:
so, so true. And I wouldn't have it any other way :-) #frumpsforever ♥ #disneyislife ♥

I'm just glad I'm not the only insane one!

So I'm sure you're thinking that I, personally, ate enough to feed an entire army.

Well... you're probably right.

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I didn't have room for dessert! Especially because that's the REASON I booked this dinner!

So I frumped my way over to the lovely dessert table to scope out the scene.

Ahh, here are the little winners.

dsc0612ml.jpg

And here's the other dessert table with your more "typical" treats like brownies, rice krispies, blondies, and cookies. Still ridiculously delicious!

dsc0613n.jpg

I'm guessing this is my Mom's. This plate features an Oreo Bon Bon, Flan, and Brownie:

dsc0607le.jpg

This is mine. Teehee. :-) A Key Lime Tart in the back left, the Raspberry Cheesecake front and center, (YUM!) and the Oreo Bon Bon to the right. (YUM AND WOW!!!!)

dsc0609so.jpg

The dessert I booked this dinner for was the Oreo Bon Bon! When I stayed Club Level at the Yacht Club for the first frump trip/my graduation present, they had these desserts out one night. STUPID ME completely bypassed the Oreo Bon Bons! After that I kept seeing pictures of them ALL over disboards, so I had to try them!

Let me tell you, they did not disappoint! Oh my God I probably had 2 or 3 of those alone! It's a soft oreo cookie on the bottom, mousse in the middle, and a chocolate coating on the outside. For some reason I was surprised that the inside was white, but I'm guessing it was Cookies and Cream flavored mousse.

As for the other desserts, they were all AWESOME! My second favorite was the raspberry cheesecake. I love that it's a sampler size!

My Dad LOVED the Blondies. Jonathan said they reminded him of the inside of a butterfinger.

Mom specifically loved the Brownies. She said they were fudgey and gooey and perfect!

Another awesome part about Cape May is that you get to draw on the table cloth! Here are some pictures of our artistic masterpieces.

This one was drawn by my Mom:

This one was drawn by me!

Once we all reached our breaking points, it was time to settle the bill. Dad left Adam an even bigger tip than our TiW card left because we loved him that much! He was an awesome waiter!

I posted on twitter:
Oh my God I ate SO much. I'm waddling.

That's what I call one successful meal.

Overview of Cape May Cafe:
Waiter: Adam
Service: He was SO personable and held great conversations with us. He really took the time to make sure we were happy and taken care of. Excellent! 5/5
Atmosphere: I LOVE the Beach Theme! It wasn't too crowded and it felt very organized for a buffet! 4.5/5
Food: The food ran out fast and some was cold, but it wasn't bad enough to make an impact on my experience. They were constantly bringing out new dishes of everything! Overall, my entire meal was absolutely phenomenal and my whole family was REALLY happy! This was probably one of our top favorites on this entire trip! 4.5/5

Ahh Cape May... it's such a hidden gem. I love recommending it to people because it's not well known and I know they will be pleasantly surprised. So if you haven't before, GO! You can easily get to the resort by walking out the back entrance of Epcot in the United Kingdom. It takes FIVE minutes. The food is so worth it and I'm positive that you'll leave will a very happy and very full stomach!

I grabbed a picture of the Beach Club Lobby on the way out:

Outside of the resort:

Hollywood Studios was our next stop that night. It was time to trek on back there!

The Swan and Dolphin had SUCH pretty, colorful lights. I was so impressed when we walked by, so I had to snap a couple pictures.

dsc0631l.jpg

WOW, right? This pathway back here really is a sight to be seen during the day AND at night!

dsc0634bu.jpg

THE SWANK!

dsc0630q.jpg

The beautiful Boardwalk! My Dad really wants to stay there someday. He's a huge fan. (I think it's because they house the ESPN zone haha. But really.)
