Your ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE to Disney World at Christmas Time! UPDATE x2 10/21

I have never been to Disneyland ( I want go to one day) But I do know that one of my favourite bands, Suburban Legends, play there quite often. They play at the Tomorrowland Terrace. If they are playing while you are there you should check them out. I have seen them live and they are awesome and put on a fun show. Disneyland is there home turf. They have played over 1000 shows there.

Here's a clip:

OH OKAY. Round TWO trying to leave this comment. (My internet failed... WAHHH.)

Um... apparently the scores I get on TSM suck. That's all. I just get TOOOOO into looking at everything and I get distracted!! Sometimes being detail oriented can hurt hahaha.

I remember the crayon thing from your video! :rotfl:

So between the pictures of the bagel and banana... and then the CUPCAKE... I think it's obvious that the cupcake is the clear winner here. What is with parents and being responsible, I ask ya?

OMG i'm just awwwwwwing all over the place at your pin trade story. That's too precious!!!

We will have a car during my August trip (we are driving down) but I agree, Disney transportation is a lot better. But it does take up a lot of time.

I think you did have a fever that morning because of that score!

I don’t like cupcakes (I know I’m messed up. My mom tells me she brought the wrong baby home from the hospital) but the pictures of the red velvet cupcake are great. It really does look amazing. Maybe I should try a cupcake again soon. Disney cupcakes are better (I’m guessing) than a lot of other cupcakes. Who am I kidding? Disney food is better than any other food!

The turkey leg rice krispie treat does look like chicken!

I wish I could have that Jack Skellington apple. Stupid braces.

Jess,

Ventura County is north of Orange and Los Angeles County. If I can suggest things to do I would 1. Take a drive up HWY 1 most beautiful landscape in the state. 2. Yosemite, most majestic National Park that will have tears rolling down your face when you first see the the Valley as you come out of the west tunnel. 3. Santa Barbara beauty all around and a fun place to visit.

Ahhh I love waking up after one of those crazy refreshing Disney sleeps. That's the kind of sleep you have when your body is literally completely exhausted.

Hahaha I feel your pain over the TSM score. I always get so angry with myself if I don't perform top notch on that ride. We take these things very seriously. ;)

Red velvet cupcake- the breakfast of champions! :thumbsup2

John is obsessed with Star Wars. When he realized I had never seen the movies he went crazy and made me watch them all in one weekend. They're not bad, but I don't see all the hype. It's cute watching him get so excited about it, though! :goodvibes

All of those Disney baked goods... I need to be there, like NOW. 31 DAYS.

I also like the orange one!!!!

Periwinkle - it's the best crayon!

YAYYAYAYAY

Don't go there comparing it to WDW - they are two VERY different resorts (even though I've never been to wdw!) There isn't a whole lot to do at each resort, they are quite small but there is the pools but in reality they are just three hotels (although they do have their special charms). No where close to the size or theming of WDW resorts.

As for the dining plan - don't bother. You get given dollar for dollar vouchers (can't remember from the top of my head, but just say 2x$5, 2x$15 per day). These vouchers do NOT give you change, so if you ordered something that cost $13 and you paid with the $15 then you lose $2. Read this thread if you like for more about DLR dining.

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2914467 -

ADR's are not as sought at DLR as in WDW and you can often get them weeks before rather than months out like at WDW. There are lots of cute little counter service places as well as table...maybe try Minnie and Friend's Character Breakfast :)

Have fun!

I mean, I will unintentionally be comparing it the whole time. But not to be like "Oh, WDW is so much better!" It's more of a "what are the differences and similarities" type of deal. I'm SO excited. I know that it's different, but it's going to be really cool to see! I think it'll be really fun to just see how the DLR hotels are laid out and the theming for each. I have seen pictures of the guest rooms, and just those alone sold me. They're GORGEOUS!

Thank you for explaining the Dining plan to me! I think paying out of pocket sounds like a better plan!

And good to know about the restaurants. Thank you!

Your last post really made me miss/get crazy excited for Hollywood Studios! It's like 2:20 am for me right now so I'm very tired and acting weird, but I'm practically crying because your post made me so happy and excited.

Anyway, I am loving your trip report! The holidays are the best time to visit Disney in my opinion (though anytime is fine with me!)

Haha well it looks like you're going super soon! YAYY! Hahaha I'm so glad that my post had that effect on you! I hope you have a magical trip!

Thank you! And I completely agree with that!

Toy Story! Breakfast Cupcakes! GERTIEEEEEEEEEEEE! Best trip report entry ever, right?

I hope you took pictures of the periwinkle crayon later so it doesn't feel left out =P

I had never seen Star Wars before this year. (Okay, that's sort of a lie - I saw the original movie a long time ago with a friend, but I didn't remember any of it). My husband is a huge SW fan though, so I gave him the complete series of movies when they came out on BluRay as his anniversary gift, which meant I finally had to watch them, lol. They are really entertaining movies and worth watching at least once, esp. if you have someone there to help explain things to you/remind you who people are. I haven't been back to WDW since I finished watching the movies, so we'll see if it improves the Star Tours experience!

Basically. It's a winning masterpiece.

I'm pretty sure I took a picture of it! I remember taking one, I just don't know if I've gotten to that part of the trip report yet.

Haha aw that's cute. I feel like I'm going to end up watching them eventually too. I always tell my boyfriend "the only reason I want to watch Star Wars is for Star Tours at Disney World!" He laughs but he knows that's SO typical of me hahaha

OMG Disneyland! That is so awesome! I literally know nothing of DLR except what I have read on the Dis (and most of that has come from Brook's 'No Way Jose' TR) but it looks like so.much.fun! I mean, it's Disney..how could it not be fun?

Have you ever had English Toffee at wdw? I got a piece from the MS Confectionery at MK a couple weeks ago when I was trying to use up leftover snack credits, and I didn't eat it until like 2 days later at home.
It is like a party in your mouth! So delicious, and I have thought about it each and every day since! Anyway, it's on the bottom row, second from the right, in this picture. Even just a little glimpse of it made my day! :cool1: And now I know of one more place I can get it next time <3333
dsc0521e.jpg

Aww didn't you love her trip report!? So cute. And yes, I'm sure it'll be a blast!

I have NEVER had that, but it sounds absolutely delicious! I am going to need to remember to try it at some point! Thanks for the idea!

:lmao: My husband loves Star Wars. I had never really seen the movies either when we met, so he made me watch one with him. I promptly fell asleep and haven't lived it down since.

...he also hasn't made me watch any more of them!

Hahaha don't worry... I fell asleep during Harry Potter when we tried to watch those. I feel like Star Wars is going to be the same deal. I just hate watching movies/TV. I would much rather be on the computer or writing something, because that way I actually feel like I'm getting stuff accomplished.

The red velvet cupcake is at the top of my list for my August trip!! I seriously can't wait to try it, I think I may be more excited for that than I am to stay at the Beach Club lol ;)

YES You're going to absolutely love it! And hahaha I mean, they are pretty much on the same scale. YAYYY DISNEY! What day are you leaving again?

OH. EM. GEE. I need Disney food RIGHT NOW. After seeing all of your pictures of all those yummy treats my stomach won't stop rumbling! SO YUMMY. I've never tried the Red Velvet Cupcake but I'm definitely going to try it when I go in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS! WOOHOO!
And that little boy seems ADORABLE! :)

Hahaha Disney food pictures do that to me too! You NEED to try it. Please don't forget! It will change your life. (Just remember that Starring Rolls closes at 4 pm every day, so don't miss your opportunity!)
And aww he was so cute!

Ahahha, I absolutely love that stitch wake up call, and I definitely just thought to myseld "I should probably record that next time to my phone and use it at home as a wake up!"

I def would never want to drive around disney, I've had some people say "Why don't we rent a car?" and my response is always "A waste of money" I get that some points it could be awesome to have, but I'm all for disney transportation!

I love love love TSM, so much! I wish I had the commitment to ride it more than once a trip haha. Gawd! Starring Rolls! All I want in life is endless red velvet cupcakes! I almost stopped at Crave on Tuesday, but I know it just wouldn't be the same!!

Hahaha I know, right!? But then I would hear it and think I was in Disney. And then I would be sad when I wasn't hahaha

I totally agree! I would rather buy some extra souvenirs or something. Disney transportation works just fine. Actually, I prefer it!

ME TOO! Haha I never did, but something just clicked in my brain that made me go insane LOL. And oh my gosh ME TOO. Red Velvet Cupcakes from Starring Rolls are perfection. Nothing else Red Velvet it really as good as them!

:dance3: for going to DL!! What a great summer you have planned (you know, after all the work/school stuff)!

AWESOME update!! I knew you and I had a bond when you got my most favoritist cupcake! Red Velvet! And for breakfast!!

Star Wars is something I grew up on (in the 80's). Now to say I've sat down and watched ALL 6 of them in a row! No way! I've managed to see them here and there by watching them on tv when there's a marathon on TNT or something (like on a long holiday weekend). You should make an evening date with your DB and maybe watch one or two of them! Then y'all can watch some wonderful Disney flicks another night! :thumbsup2

Jess, I have to say, your incredible TR has won me over! I have officially convinced my DH for us to take our DD to Disney World this Christmas season! :woohoo::woohoo: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! Now I need to get all of your tips organized onto a spreadsheet so I can use them for my planning! ;)

Aww thanks! Yeah, when I didn't have anything planned this seemed like the worst summer ever. But now things are looking WAY up! I'm so excited! 71 days till Disneyland!

Hahaha those Red Velvet Cupcakes are my FAVORITE thing in the whole entire world!

Yeah that sounds like a really cute idea! We probably will end up doing that once we have a free night at school :-)

OH MY GOODNESS ARE YOU SERIOUS!?! Aww that's SO incredibly exciting! I'm so so so happy for you! And I'm so happy that my trip report helped, that truly makes all of the time I put into this worth it! I hope you guys have a MAGICAL trip! I'm sure you will! And if you ever need any help, just post here and I'll answer any questions! YAY DISNEY!

Ugh I HATE when that happens. Especially when I'm writing an update. It breaks my heart a little bit.

Hahaha don't even worry! I am just ridiculously hard on myself because I know that I can get to a certain score now. So looking back on it, I'm like "WHAT THE HECK WAS WRONG WITH YOU!?" Honestly, I'm insane. Please ignore me hahaha

Oh yay I'm so glad you knew what I was talking about lol

Obviously. I know what I'm doing. Those parents, playing it in the "safe zone" with the bagel. I just don't know.

Aww thank you!

We will have a car during my August trip (we are driving down) but I agree, Disney transportation is a lot better. But it does take up a lot of time.

Yeah, I mean if I'm in Disney I really don't care. But I prefer the transportation as well.

Haha I must have!

You know what, my friend Nat doesn't like cupcakes either. However, she tried the Red Velvet one and she LOVED it. Maybe you should try it and share with someone so they can finish it if you don't like it!

I know, right!?

Aww well once you get them off you'll have to get one!

amazing update!!!
I can't even get over that turkey leg rice krispy!!!

Thank you! And hahaha I know, right!? How frumpy!

Ahhh I love waking up after one of those crazy refreshing Disney sleeps. That's the kind of sleep you have when your body is literally completely exhausted.

Me too! It's like the type of sleep where your head hits the pillow and your'e out IMMEDIATELY. It's great haha

Toy Story Mania is VERY serious business, as far as I'm concerned.

HECK YES!!

Hahaha I'm waiting for the day that Preston makes me watch them all. I'm sure I'll probably fall asleep or something. LOL who knows.

And oh my gosh you're going in 31 days already!!?!? SINCE WHEN!? That's so soon! YAYAY I'm so excited for you!!!

YES You're going to absolutely love it! And hahaha I mean, they are pretty much on the same scale. YAYYY DISNEY! What day are you leaving again?

I fly down August 11th and we're staying till the 16th. I'm driving home with my uncle which is going to be a first.

You know what, my friend Nat doesn't like cupcakes either. However, she tried the Red Velvet one and she LOVED it. Maybe you should try it and share with someone so they can finish it if you don't like it!

My mom has been dying to get one so maybe I'll try a bite of hers!

Okay guys, I'm gonna try and pick up the pace of this trip report again. Between the May Frump report and the upcoming Disneyland report, I am going to have a lot to write. So for this one, I have been writing lots of updates and storing them in a word document so they're all ready to go! I'm just going to try and post new ones approximately every other day. Let me know if that's too much for you all, but I figured this would work pretty well. Enjoy!

Chapter 49: "People Down Here Think I'm Crazy, But I Don't Care"
December 23rd, 2011

We drove back to French Quarter from Hollywood Studios and we went up to our room.

dsc0530jj.jpg

dsc0532h.jpg

I got changed and then took this picture of Mother from our balcony. I don't remember where she was coming back from. Maybe she went to the car or something.

dsc0534mm.jpg

While I was waiting for everyone else, I took a little inventory picture of my most recent pins! In this picture you can see my baby Jasmine pin from our CM friend from Hollywood, and then the Chip and Dale pins from the adorable little boy. As well as some fastpasses (Rock N Roller Coaster and Soarin') and other random ones that I liked.

dsc0535tf.jpg

We decided that we were going to spend some time at the resort this afternoon! We headed down to Sassagoula's to grab lunch!

dsc0545ya.jpg

This lady is REAL creepy.

dsc0546x.jpg

I got Disney pizza because, you know, WHAT IS POSSIBLY BETTER THAN DISNEY PIZZA!? Honestly. That, and I didn't know if I was going to have another chance to eat it on this trip! I had BIG BIG plans for my future food intake.

dsc0539d.jpg

Jonathan and Dad got the Chicken Quesadillas. Jon wasn't a big fan of them because he said they had too much cheese. However, I think his taste buds were off because he was still a little sick. Dad really liked them! And I tried one too and I thought they were delicious!

dsc0538r.jpg

Mom got a Salad. I believe there's a "create your own salad" station here.

dsc0540p.jpg

She also got some New England Clam Chowder:

dsc0542v.jpg

And let us not forget, for dessert I had BEIGNETS!! Thank goodness Lia tweeted me and reminded me to get them, or else I would have forgotten! Beignets are seriously DELICIOUS! They're basically like little puffs of fried dough with LOTS of powdered sugar. Mmmm so GOOD! Just like Tiana makes 'em!

dsc0543iy.jpg

(Do you get the chapter title reference now?)

dsc0544p.jpg

Once we finished eating, we decided to check out the arcade. It was surprisingly big! And it smelled REALLY good. Random, but true.

Why is the rug in there SO pretty!? Oh wait. Because it's Disney.

img1190p.jpg

Dad and Jonathan wanted to stay and play some games, so Mom and I went back to the room really fast. I took a few more Christmas decoration pictures in the lobby on our way!

img1188jy.jpg

img1189o.jpg

We walked to our room, Mom got changed and we went down to the pool!

We found this little back area where there weren't any people but it was still sunny! Perfect!!

dsc0556wu.jpg

There were lots of family fun activities going on around the pool. The kids were playing the "Beach Bag" game where they had to find whatever items the CM said. They would go to people sitting around the pool to find items such as a park map, a water mist fan, a pressed penny, etc. They had to be the fastest ones to find the items and bring them back to the cast members. It was a really cute game!

The Cast Members who have that recreation job probably have so much fun. They had so many great activities planned for the kids!

I caught up in my trip journal while I was laying out, and then the heat started to get to me. That sun was beating down on us! I had to jump in the pool!

dsc0552w.jpg

Then Jon and I went over to the hot tub for a little bit. Then I went back to the pool. I had a VERY important mission to complete.

I HAD TO GO ON THE FRUMPY DRAGON SLIDE!

dsc0550l.jpg

I posted on twitter:
I just went down the frumpy dragon slide. I was def the oldest person in line but it was SO necessary.

It really is a tiny slide, and all of the kids who go on it are easily 5-10 years younger than me. But do I really care? No. I actually find joy in the whole situation.

It's the simple things that really make my day.

Once I finished with that, Mom and I walked all around the pool area and took a couple pictures!

dsc0551i.jpg

Yeah, that's my little head up there! I was walking across the sea serpent bridge. (Unfortunately his real name isn't *actually* "the frumpy dragon." Although, I like to believe it is.)

dsc0557y.jpg

It was SUCH a beautiful day!

dsc0563z.jpg

Then it was time to go back to the room and shower.

The room was all clean when we got back! I tweeted:
The POFQ mouse keepers are the cutest!! :-)

Why is that? Look at all of these adorable towel animals!

dsc0566as.jpg

dsc0567z.jpg

dsc0568h.jpg

dsc0570k.jpg

Gotta love it.

Once I was all showered and ready, I took a little time to relax while I waited for everyone else. I posted on twitter:
It's time for some afternoon Stacey :-)

But seriously, could life GET any better?!

Continued in Next Post

I love logging on to the DIS and seeing that there are new updates from you! :)

Between your pictures and descriptions of POFQ along with my family's, I'm really thinking about making this our resort for Jake's birthday trip next year.

WOO HOO! I'm so glad you ate beignets! Aren't they delicious?! Delicious and messy :thumbsup2 If you ever travel to New Orleans, make sure you eat at Cafe Du Monde and get beignets. P-E-R-F-E-C-T!

The pictures of you on the slide are too cute!
