August 2012 Car Rental Thread

Rates for my dates have come down a few hundred. Still at 300 for a 10 day rental for a Standard size car.
I am not ready to book at that price. My bottom line is still 200 and I am pretty confident I will see it at some point.
If not, I'll book the car to be picked up the night we get in, take it to Universal for those 3 days and drive it back over to the airport and use Magical Express to head to Disney.

I really liked having a van the whole trip in May but I only paid 200 for a van so I can't justify paying 100 more for a car.

If you go with either Alamo or National you can rent at the airport and drop off at WDW (Car Care Center or Dolphin). That's what I'm doing if I can't get a good rate for the 10 days. I figured this way I can save myself the aggravation of going back to the airport, unloading the luggage, returning the car and then waiting for ME. It will also let me get a grocery stop in before we get to WDW.

Funny you should say that. That's exactly what my husband said right after I posted last night.:)
Sometimes you get dinged with a hefty one way fee though, so he also suggested grabbing some groceries, dropping us off to check in at Disney and him taking it back by himself to the airport.

Looking at the June car rental thread, they're rates are really starting to drop right now, so hopefully August will be the same.

Joining in! We are going August 3-9 - hubby and I just rented from MCO at Alamo and returned to CCC at end of May - I got a great rate just 3 weeks before we went for $80 for midsize, so I'm waiting it out - got some great codes/coupons from the wonderful DIS, so hoping to get a great deal for August along with all of you!:goodvibes

I booked through Alamo and the rate was the same whether I returned it at the airport or the Dolphin. I plan to drive over to WDW, get checked in and unloaded, drive over to the Dolphin, drop the car off, and then head from there to one of the parks.

Joining the thread! Our dates are from Aug 25-Sept 3. Hoping to get some great rates like last year. :goodvibes

I always rent from Alamo and with BJ's $40off coupon and insider member discount, midsize for 10 days is $202. It's not bad but not the greatest.

Last year, I really lucked out and had premium for 7 days for $85.

if past history repeats there should be a break in rates in the next 2 weeks. it will trend down hold for a week then bounce back up. we all need to stay vigilant. seriously doubt they are going to stay at this level unless inventory is really that low

I am so hoping this is the case. My dates are aug 10-21. I can usually get a minivan for $199.00! This year the lowest rates are 500.00!! I have been trying all the codes on mousesavers.com with no luck!

Last year I ended up getting a rate of $198 from Alamo for a minivan for our August trip. We got that rate mid july. Before that, the rates were as high as we are seeing this year. It's still too early

I'll be watching this thread VERY closely! :) I only need a car for 2 days (8/15 & 8/16) but the prices are CRAZY high--much higher than prior years. Keeping my fingers crossed they will go down soon! It's the last piece of our trip we need covered.....

try using the KLM airline parter code on National. Best rate so far. 8572130 go to KLM and register then find their partner discounts.

I got a midsize, with tax, down to 203.

HAve you tried X474200 on Budget ?

Following along to see if something will also work for my long weekend trip to IL in August.

Hi people! My very first post on this great forum!

I will be traveling from Jul 24th to Aug 7th to LAX and my question is... did car rental companies establish their offers only on a monthly basis?

Its the first time I cross months renting and usually I see some offers available for a couple of weeks of the month or until the end of the month... this thread is also by month.

For now, I have a Budget reservation for a standard card for $544 that still the best. I usually rent on Alamo using Costco Corp ID and Insiders applicable coupons or Costco coupons.

Is anyone familiar with Sanford? We will be renting a car. Our flight is due to arrive at 10:20pm and I'm wondering if the car rental places will even be open.

I have not tried it. Which company is it for? Tell me what space to plug it in and I will give it a try!

Duh, I missed giving you 1/2 the info.. was trying to type fast before I had to go to work, whoops!

It's a Budget BCD code. It's an open use (no coupon needed) Travelocity code. I got it here on the dis (and thats where my info comes from)

There is a $25 coupon kicking around too, but that does not show a discount when you input it, it's applied when you return the car.

We need a car for 8/29 - 9/1. After our cruise ends 8/29, we are spending a few nights at the Renaissance Orlando at Seaworld. So far, the best I've found is just under $300 for an "intermediate" SUV. I think ('hope' is probably the better word) as we get closer, I'll find a better price. Although, working against us as well may be that we need to do a one-way rental - pick up at Port Canaveral and drop off at MCO. I check Mousesavers and rentalcodes all the time. However, most of the specials are short-term in nature and don't apply to August. Seems standard I guess, but we don't rent cars often. When we do WDW, we rely solely on ME and Disney Transportation.

I plugged your dates in on Budget using code X474200, as I already had that site open.
Now I don't know what time you are arriving or leaving so I just put 4 PM for both, but I got a premium or mini van or standard SUV for $135 ($153 after taxes)
