Name's Joyce and this is yet another tale of an adventure I took to WDW. Hope you'll join in, and please let me know if you're reading!
I just got back yesterday, and since I didnt do a great job taking notes on this trip, I figured I should start this TR quickly if I was going to have any chance at all of remembering what happened!
This was a fairly random, short trip that I took with one of my best friends, Mark:
We have been friends since college and have gone to Disney together before. But that was a while ago, and we seem to have developed different touring strategies along the way...
My DH, Ben, was not able to join us because he couldn't take the time off work. I felt guilty going without him, but he assured me that it was fine to go and have fun. So I did.
It was very fun, exhausting, hilarious, bizarre, meltingly hot, and a bit surreal at times. Traveling with my friend was a lot different than my past several trips with Ben. In order not to get frustrated with Mark, I had to learn to compromise, and to remind myself that I will be back in 5 months. But I think I showed him a more relaxing side of WDW, and he helped make sure there wasnt a single ride we missed!
Friday, May 4 May the Fourth Be With You
It was my last day of work before vacation, and I spent a lot of it checking the clock. Once 5 oclock came around, I skipped out of there waving good bye to my co-workers. There is nothing better than that feeling of freedom you get when you leave work for a vacation!
I made the ½ hour drive home, and had dinner with Ben before I finished my last minute packing and got ready to head out. Marks house is a not-quite 3 hour drive from mine, and my plan was to leave at 7. At just about 7:20 I was ready to head out. Ben snapped a picture of me as I headed out the door.
Since Ben couldnt join us on this trip, I took along a photo of him so he could at least be in some pictures.
The drive was an easy one, and actually went by pretty quickly. As I approached Marks exit I realized that my car was very low on gas, so I pulled into the last service station. My vacation mind mustve completely taken over here, because without even really realizing it I ended up at the McDonalds ordering a cheeseburger Happy Meal. I had already had dinner, but I was hungry- what can I say? The cashier asked if I wanted a girl toy or a boy toy or does it matter? Haha, I guess he figured out it was for me. This is what I got:
Yup, the girl toy. I threatened to wear them all week, but didnt make good on it because they were pretty small and incredibly uncomfortable to wear.
After this pit stop, it was only another ½ hour or so to Marks. I hadnt been there before, but found it easily enough- even though his driveway is a long winding dirt road through the woods.
Once inside, I was thrilled to see these:
Since Mark had booked the trip with his DVC points, the Magical Express tags obviously went to him. He hadnt even opened the envelope- I did when I got there! I could never let a piece of Mickey mail sit unopened in my possession!
I got settled in and we watched the video of the school play his nephew had been in that night- he was Beast in Beauty and the Best! They did a great job, especially considering that it was a 6th grade play! After, we watched the real Beauty and the Beast, but I fell asleep somewhere in the middle. It was okay to be exhausted- we had nothing at all on the agenda for the next day.
Saturday, May 5 Wine, Bethenny, and a Couch
Mark made breakfast and we lounged around watching a Bethenny Ever After marathon on Bravo. A little sidenote: Ben and I cancelled cable a couple months ago. Prior to that, I had been obsessed with bad reality TV. Anything Real Housewives related, I loved. But since I dont have it as an option anymore, I just dont watch it. And I havent missed it. But sure enough- within 5 minutes of having access to cable, I was glued to Bravo. Addicted, much?
We literally spent the day watching TV. I spent it lying on the couch. In honor of Cinco de Mayo, we drank sangria and wine and basically just kept reminding each other that we were going to Disney the next day.
It was the laziest day of my life, but I justified it by knowing wed be waking up at 3:30 the next morning to head to the airport. Mark went to bed earlier than I did, but I was too excited and stayed up watching the Twilight Zone. I mustve fallen asleep at some point, though because I clearly remember my alarm waking me up and bouncing off the couch to get ready to go!
In the interest of accurate trip reporting:
This is me, having just woken up. I thought it was a good idea to take a picture of myself. And since I have it, Im sharing it.
Next: "I hate mushrooms."
