How a good deal was your holiday

16th-30th August 3 of us:
Flights £1485
Villa Sunridge Woods : £890
Car: £221
4 Park ticket (US, IOA, SW, BG, AQ) £525

Total £3121

We've 3 adults on United from Edinburgh via Newark to Orlando for 11 nights departing 9th September.

Did you get fairly decent prices? Those were the flights we were looking at for this year and I was prepared to pay a little more than my set budget for any other airlines as we so enjoyed our CO flight from EDI last year but they just never had any good deals so we went with BA which saved us £600 for the two of us on the round trip. I had originally also been looking at 8th and 9th September for departure dates.

Total £4,524, a little better than the VH quote of £12,000 for something similar.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Slight difference in price then. One has to ask "How the .......?!"

We are going via the DVC on Dec 14th to 30th. Bay Lake from the 14th – 16th , DCL 3 Night from the 16th – 19th and OKW from the 19th to the 30th.

Me , my DW and 2 DS are going – it’s my wife’s 40th so we decided to go PE on Virgin. Nearly passed out when paying for the flights though.....£3400 :worried:
Just the car, DP and the xmas presents to pay for :thumbsup2

6th to 20th October 2012

OKW 14 nights in 1 Bedroom with 14 day tickets and free DDP £2784.20
Flights EDI-MCO with Aerlingus £1400 + £34 for extra legroom (and some change but can't remember exact ammount) We would have got the flights cheaper if we had been able to book at first release.

Total £4232

That looks like a lot but when I priced it up recently

OKW 14 nights in 1 bedroom £5214.22
EDI-MCO flights £1955

Total £7169.22

So saving of £2937.22

Pretty pleased about that. Though I have noticed that a fair few pps have saved alot more.

Using the airmiles made a massive difference, just priced it up on current prices without airmiles below. I suspect VH quote holidays without taking into account any free DDP or 42% off OKW, they might advertise it but at £12k I don't think they accounted for the offers in their quote.

To book ours now it would be £11,748(paid £4,524), a very similar price to the VH quote I got months ago(while free DDP was being offered)

Flights £4,245
3 nights FI LBV £182
21 nights OKW & DDP £6,109
3 x 21 day Ultimate tix £822
6 nights car full size £150
18 nights car 7 seater minivan (half of share) £240

I was glad someone recommended using the us Disney site £1950 for 9 nights at CBR with free dining and park tickets with hoppers etc included was good for us. Also really happy with our flight price £489 each for August travel and all this was booked in April this year.

We love the dining plan and cannot quite believe that a holiday that usually takes us a year to pay for has been half paid for in a month! DH and I cut down on our wine, I walked everywhere instead of using my gas guzzler 4x4 - we also started being more sensible with our food shopping and planning our meals (DH is head chef at a very flash restaurant so we cook everything from scratch anyway but a bit of extra thought means we make the most of what we buy) we managed to save £90 a week just by doing that!

Ok, this is what we -Me, DD(19) DS(12)-spent:

April 2012:
Flights Aberdeen-MCO: 3x £550 = £1650
Tickets- £250 (already had 2 APs)
BCV/BLT- 540pts@£5.00= £2700
Kennels- £108
Car Hire- £227
RPR (2nights)- £380
Universal tickets-£285

Total-£5600

I haven't put in spending money but went a bit overboard this trip as I was celebrating a big birthday:) so maybe about an extra £1000 total.
I have also 'costed' my DVC points at £5.00 each. Some people think of them as being 'free' but when management fees and up-front costs are factored in I think that's the true cost. Used a lot of points being peak season and mainly 2BR villa.

Depart 31st October for 17 nights 2 adults, 2 Children

Gatwick Hilton with valet parking and triple Hilton family room £180

2 nights POR then 3 night Disney Dream Cruise with all transfers £2100
Then
11 nights Disney BC with DDP, Park tickets, 4wheel drive car with all insurances, VA flights for the whole period = £5400

Total = £7680

Going again in August:cool1:

August 2012: Me, DD(19), DS(12):
Flights from Aberdeen with stopover in NY: £1655
NY hotelx 4nights - £800
OKW 1BRx 9nights- £1582
DDP- Free
Tickets- £705
Miami hotelx 2nights- £300
Car hire (SUVx6nights)-£206

Total-£5248

Doing OKW+free dining as I ran out of DVC points (see earlier post):rotfl2:

Just shows you how much you can save by looking around for the offers. I have been looking at next year (I know you lot will understand DH :scared1:) Prices for OKW way less attractive than this years or last so it might be back to POFQ.

We got 30 May to 13 June at CSR, with park tickets and free dining, and Virgin Atlantic return flights for 3 adults and 4 children for 9,860.

I am quite pleased with our price for this year. One adult and one child (10 years so adult by Disney standards for tix/dining)

18 nights at POFQ with 14 day Ultimates and QSDP: £2198
Return flights to MCO (including domestic connections): £990

Total: £3188

Still to purchase MNSSHP tickets - definitley one party night but thinking of doing 2 :)

Sorry for jumping in but can I ask who you're flying with this year, 2Tiggies?! I know your usually a Glasgow goer like me so just interested as hoping I can get a similar flight price for next year!!

EDIT: OOops, never mind! Just realised you said BA earlier on!

That's ok - we went Continental last year and it was our best route ever. We had some really bad delays due to tropical storms (and a failed engine on the runway at EWR :headache: ) but as for the airline, timings and route it was awesome! I actually thought of you when we were at the airport because I started asking you about it when you booked your trip in 2009 for last year :)

I got the BA flights courtesy of a tip off on the DIS. I had just recieved a new credit card and it's a bit of a chuckle still when I think about it - I booked the flights and when the site wanted the security code I had to peel it off the letter it had come on in the post that day to see it :rotfl2: Talk about 'meant to be'!! I'm glad I did it when I did because they were up over £100 each the next morning and I looked again over the weekend and it was $440-odd more per person on the same flights :scared1:

Thanks, Lee! It was obviously was meant to be! :thumbsup2Have to say, it's good to see some decent prices from Glasgow as from what I've seen flight prices are extortionate these days. If we get to book through Disney's goodwill offer then I'm worried we won't get flights at anywhere near a decent price. Did you book yours as soon as they went on sale?

I really don't want to pay more than £600 each for flights, but even that seems to be difficult these days! We also love Continental, have flown with them 3 times before (2x NY, 1 x Orlando) and have never had any issues. Unfortunately, for next year I'll be taking whatever I can get at a decent price!

We flew from Glasgow direct to MCO with Virgin this Easter weekend for just under £600 . We did book about 8 weeks out and nearer the time the Sunday flight came down to around £500. however the Saturday flight rose again after we booked it. previous to that we were finding prices around £800 :worried:

Our personal experience of the Glasgow flights a few years ago was that, because there are so few of them (I think there are more now than there were at one time) not only were prices not very competitive, but they sometimes sold out months before unless you could fork out for UC. Not sure if that is still the case. We flew GLA to MCO direct in 2010 and I swore never again. It really was the worst flight from the UK to MCO that we have done and I would rather do indirect. But then I accept that this is not always an option for everyone

Edit to add: Sorry I should have clarified, I was referring to the VA Glasgow flight, not flights departing from GLA in general. That was a bit ambiguous x

Interesting to hear, Lee! If we are able to change our booking with Disney then I'm debating which day to pick to fly in/out of! Thought about choosing a Saturday or Sunday as that is the only days Virgin will fly from Glasgow but at the same time, as 2 adults, we really could care less about flying direct. So I don't know if I pick a Saturday/Sunday departure will I be shooting myself in the foot as from what I've seen Virgin are extortionate and I know flying in general on the weekends is more expensive. Some people seem to think Virgin is the be all and end all so it's interesting to hear you had an awful flight with them!

I really feel there is such a lack of information on going to Orlando from Glasgow and well Scotland in general. It's a nightmare just even establishing routes available!

We got 30 May to 13 June at CSR, with park tickets and free dining, and Virgin Atlantic return flights for 3 adults and 4 children for 9,860.

We go 30th May to 11 June at POFQ, 14 day park tickets, free dining (paid to upgrade from QSDP), VA flights 2 adults and 2 children £5013

I know you are in Glasgow so it makes more sense to fly from there than from EDI but we have always gone from EDI because for some reason the same/similar flights have consistently come up cheaper. I don't know if its taxes perhaps that are higher flying from Glasgow?

I booked my accommodation a day short of the number of days we really wanted on purpose but it was actually the same day I got the sale flights. I did this because if you increase the cost of the holiday you don't pay the amendment fee  So I figured I could secure the booking and benefits at the cost (less the price of one extra night we wanted) and then if I got flights cheaper on different dates I could call back, change the dates and add the extra night I wanted anyway (to up the price and avoid the amendment charges). That's exactly what happened. The flights departing on the dates I wanted were coming up more by a couple of hundred quid for the two of us so I searched with flexible dates and by leaving 2 days earlier and coming back a day later we saved a LOT. So I ended up adding 3 more nights to the booking with Disney UK instead of one more and with the cheaper flights it still cost less than booking at our budgeted £600 per person. I am still of the view that there will always be both better and worse deals after you book no matter what so if you see something you think is good, just go for it - an hour later it is usually gone! :thumbsup2

I would happily fly from Edinburgh and will definitely be checking flights from there if we do go next year. Although, if its usually cheaper it may change as haven't BAA just had to sell Edinburgh off? So I assume taxes could change dependent on the new owner? I don't really know though.

Great idea on your part about the dates! Out of interest, do you know much the amendment fee is with Disney? As you say there's no fee if you're paying more but what if you had to change dates/drop a night, etc.?
