NEW! Disney PhotoPass+ arriving April 4, 2012

I have never used Photopass before, and I am a bit slow on the uptake, so please bare with me.

In terms of physical CD's only

With the regular Photopass, I get 1 CD

With Photopass+, I get the regular CD, the Plus CD and Photo Gallery CD? (3 CDs)?

What is the Photo Gallery CD?

It's would be a CD full of stock photos aruond the parks. Once you get it, you won't need it again. Some will care about getting the stock photos, some won't care one iota.

I would consider this if it were cheaper.

As it stands, we debate Photopass every trip. We've never bought any ride photos or meal photos because we feel they are horribly overpriced.

So for $80 more I can get all of the ride photos I want? No way. I won't jump from spending $0 to $80. That's still price gouging.

To make this worthwhile, you would also have to be eating at some character meals, and be prone to buying the $30 photo they take before you are seated.

I usually end up buying 1 or 2 on a given trip, but it's still gonna be hard to get to justifying $100 add'l (we already bought the CD at $100 for our next trip).

We've had some really terrible Photopass pictures too, Poor framing, overexposure, etc. The photographers are trained to use their cameras but are mostly NOT trained photograpers so we don't expect professional quality photos, just snapshots.

Our worst from our last trip was with Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. The photographer took a bunch of close up shots of DD hugging them but didn't get either character's face in ANY of the pictures. Yes, my DD is super cute but we kinda wanted to see Tigger and Pooh with her!! Thankfully we had been snapping pictures at the same time otherwise we wouldn't have had any good pics.

The only redeeming factor is the quantity of pictures you get with Photopass. When you have 300 pictures to choose from, you're going to get lots of good shots in there!

but for $200... I thought $150 (before pre-ordering) was a hard pill to swallow... $200.... egad.

I hear ya. You do get some great shots, but they should almost all be good shots, they use digital cameras they can't see that they took bad pics? I'm just sayin'. For $150 they should check the pics after they've taken them. I'll stick with the regular CD, and just get pics of characters when they come to the table at meal time.

What is the Photo Gallery CD?

The way i read it you get:
1 cd with professional gallery pics on it Cd sells for 40.00 by self if it's same cd as offered in park/online
1 cd that has pictures taken with photopass plus your ride and meal photos you have taken.

Right, but that's what I don't get. Normally when you ad a perk like this you're trying to hook people who would normally not spend the money on it.

It just seems the only people that would pay the extra for it would have already been spending that $50 (assuming non-preorder current prices). Even $80 is a steep sell if you normally preorder. And then they'll take advantage of it so they'll net less $ due to materials spent on the 5th time down Splash Mountain.

I'd think they could make a huge profit even if they sold the perk for $30, and didn't print out the pictures. I don't want the print out, just the ability to add it to my photopass CD.

You get however many cds that it takes to cover your photopass photo including the pictures you've added borders. The last time we had over 200 raw pictures, then my wife & daughter spent 30 days after the trip adding multiple borders plus cropping some of the "special" pictures.

We ended up with 4 cds.

Forgive me if this was asked..I didn't read the whole post yet..but if I get this PhotoPass+ CD and I eat at Chef Mickeys the photopass photographers are going to be at my table every time a character comes by? How does that work? How crowded and crazy is that going to turn out? Am I misunderstanding that?
Thanks in advance for explaining it to me.

No, it just adds the photo they take of your group on your way into the restaurant to your photopass account without you paying the $30 to buy the package.

I preordered the photopass early in order to save money. Hopefully they will soon offer some kind of across the board upgrade fee instead of just making everyone pay 200. It just feels like a ripoff.

Ask the CM to use your personal camera to take the photo with Donald. We've done it every time we have eaten there and they have always been happy to do it. Easy way to save $30.
It's a great idea! My only fear is that they will botch the picture and I'd be crushed if that happens. I know Donald is (almost) everywhere and I can get another picture but it's the only reason I'm going to Tusker House.

And I've read so many horror stories about photopass and blurry pics I'm definitely not purchasing this upgrade. I paid $99.95 for the photoCD and that will be enough for me.

If your pre-ordered paying $99.95 you can upgrade once you are in the parks, paying only the difference. So that would be another $100 plus taxes. There is not discount to an early purchase nor they sell it online, just at the parks/stores on the resorts or DTD.

So I am still not clear on this. I realize that with the + package you get all the character meal and ride photos on the CD, but do you still get the print photos they will bring to your table at a meal for instance? What about the ride prints?

I asked about this and was told yes.

Yes, to the meals - you get the print packages that they bring around to the tables and normally try to sell to you for about $33. You can also then add the code on the prints to your account online to be to included on the PhotoCD.

For the ride photos you don't get a physical print but it gets added to the card and will also be on the PhotoCD.

We are doing Tusker House breakfast, Chef Mickeys dinner and Ohana breakfast - I know the Tusker House photo is with Donald, what are the other two photos like?

Also, will you now be able to add ride photos for say, Splash, onto your photopass card if you buy a print or will it only be if you have the + option?

I am very interested to see this in use before my trip in September. I wonder mostly how the lines will be for the ride photos and how long it will take to put them on the cd.:goodvibes

Sorry, I know this is probably a dumb question, but I have never really understood the photopass cd. If I buy this, is it just for the cd and then if I want prints I have to pay a separate cost for the prints. Also, I hear about people adding borders to photos, so are the borders on the cd and then I pay for the prints. Again sorry for the dumb question, but for $200 I want to make sure I have all the facts before I make a decision. Thanks

Yes it is just for the CD. The borders are online and you can add them to photos and save them. After you save and make changes ( there is a time limit ranging frim 15-30 days) you order the CD and it comes with all your photos. You can than get prints where ever you would like because the disc has printing license.

Maybe this has been answered and I didn't see it,

but if I upgrade to the photopass +, do all ride photos get on the CD? Like if we go on ToT 5x or more times (not unheard with our family) will all 5 ToT phots be able to get on the CD? We also my son loves to do Everest again and again (single rider) last time he rode 18x in one day. Can ALL those photos be put on the CD?

Hope that makes sense.

I asked the same question on Facebook and the CM said yes.
