Thanks everyone for the replies!! Sounds like we might be lucky and not have to face the parking lot. This is very exciting to know!!! :thumbsup2

It's the same as people booking a Water View and getting a River View when they check in, or booking Garden View and then getting a preferred building room.

I assume that if the higher category is not sold out for that day, and a room shows on the system as Ready when you check in, there's a good chance you might get it so they can allocate you a room there-and-then rather than having to wait.

On the other hand I booked a Garden View RGR and got downgraded to a parking lot view!

What did they say when you asked them about it? They should have moved you straight away, or refunded you the extra $10/night at least.

Back to the drawer thing, we are here in a returned room mow. No drawers except for the small ones under the pull down bed.

:scared1: If I getting a parking lot view, I'll be livid. Even if they refund the difference.

We're now officially booked in a Rive View RGR for Oct 6-14. :goodvibes

Sorry if this question has been asked before .... I read somewhere that the Royal Rooms have Queen beds - is that correct?

IMHO...I would move it up if it were me. I've stayed late May to early June before, and I could definitely see the difference in crowds. So whenever I have the option, I go as early as possible. This year we are lucking out with school ending May 18 (no snow days here either)! Now if your ADRs are very important to you, and IF you can't get them during an earlier stay (you know you probably won't get your ideal times, but you can probably get most of the restaurants)...then that may sway you. It wouldn't sway me much since there are so many good choices! I would absolutely play around on the ADR pages and see if it works for you.

Good luck!

Good idea... I'll see if I'd be able to get my highest priority ADRs on changed dates first. Then I'll see if there are rooms available, and get the same deal we already have. Thanks!

It is hard to understand what POR figures is standard and GV. Last year we were in AB 16 and our room faced AB17 and you could see the parking lot and I found no problem but DD38 in the room next door was not happy with full view of the PL. The front desk said it was mostly GV so it was rated so. We still had a great time but she is still talking about being overcharged.

Erm, there were no Garden View rooms last year, that category did not commence until 1 Jan 2012. In 2011 the five booking categories at POR were Standard, Preferred, King Bed, Water View and River View.

Yay! I thought so but then I was on the DIsney site looking at the rooms overview and they all said Double beds so I started wondering ... Thanks Fire14!
I think after disney's lil screwup awhile back they are covering their tushes until entire resort is refurbed. When I attempt to book room all Royal rooms come up with Queen size bed in desp. all others say double b/c in reality you could get a double bed if you get a nonrefurb room.

Andre - yes I miss typed, thus misspoke. My old brain. WV is what it should have been and we were on the wrong side for that(quiet pool). Thanks.

When we originally booked for our vacation this year, we tried to get a Royal Room, but they were completely booked for the dates we were going to be there. We then looked at the other moderate resorts (we have stayed at the value resorts the previous 2 years and we want to try something a little nicer :)) and decided on CSR. A week later my wife decided to look online and see if any rooms had free'd up. To our surprise they had a standard view RR available!!! We were so excited!! We booked it and showed our girls the video previews of the room and they can't wait!!! We are all so excited to stay at a resort other than the value resorts!! Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the value resorts, I'm just excited to stay at a different resort. I think it will be like having our first Disney World vacation all over again :goodvibes

Uh-oh... once you go Port you never go back. :)

Hey! Welcome to the DIS!!!! :cool1::cheer2::woohoo:

I understand WDW's rationale in creating the new array of room categories/views. I wonder if they will be experiencing more guest dissatisfaction with a less-than-desired GV, RV, WV, etc room. I don't know the specifics of POR but know that Disney often has fairly loose definitions of what constitutes a view.

Personally it won't matter to me, since I have booked a standard view room. I'll be content enjoying my overlook of a little slice of asphalt heaven. But I know some folks who will be gazing at asphalt (and a burgeoning patch of sod) will have paid for GV.

I found this very detailed YouTube video from Mousesteps.com about all the refurbished rooms at POR. It covers AB, the regular mansions and the RGR rooms. Warning, it runs about 15 minutes.

Ok heading there now. Thanks for sharing... Also got our PIN today! So I dont know if we will change back to POR or not this next stay. May have to do of how good of a chance I have at getting a good river view RGR or not. ;)

I do know that when the last set of changes were made (when they defined the new Garden View category) they took the opportunity to walk round and check/reclassify any rooms for which the original description was no longer correct. So there should be less problems now.

Oops, I thought I'd mentioned that here too when I linked to it on the news page at portorleans.org a few days ago. Denise and Jeff do some great photos and videos of WDW generally in fact. I've known Denise for ages (since before she started MouseSteps I think) and it's worth following her on Twitter (@Mousesteps and @MousestepsWalks) to see what she's posting next.

Are the drawers big? We are planning on staying here in November and we will have two adults, 3 kids (15,15,and 12) plus a baby. I am worried we are not going to have enough space for all of us to unpack. :confused3
