Affordable cabins in Asheville, NC?

HI, I'm thinking of planning a trip to Asheville, NC in June or July. I would like for us (DH, and 3 sons, 10, 6, and 2) to stay in a cabin and I'm having a hard time finding something nice and affordable.

It looks like Asheville cabins at Willow Winds are nice, but it's going to cost over $1500 for a week there in a 2 BR... and I'm not even sure if they'll let us stay in a 2 BR since it says it only accommodates 4. From their site it looks like their cabins are secluded and near trails and they have other things like playgrounds and such to amuse the kids in our down time.

Asheville cottages are a tiny bit cheaper but look like they are kind of more in a neighborhood and do not have any amenities, and I couldn't tell how close they were to hiking trails and other activities.

Any other recommendations for cabins or houses? I just don't want to stay in a hotel, I want the more homey feel. Is this just a pricey area and I need to just rework my budget to fit one of these two options?

We've had good experiences renting from Greybeard Realty in Black Mountain. They have a lot of properties around Black Mountain/Montreat and Asheville. Also, check out VRBO for the Wolf Laurel area. I've found some good deals there in the Summer. It's near Mars Hill which happens to have my favorite restaurant...El Dorado Latin Grill. Good luck!

We've had good experiences renting from Greybeard Realty in Black Mountain. They have a lot of properties around Black Mountain/Montreat and Asheville. Also, check out VRBO for the Wolf Laurel area. I've found some good deals there in the Summer. It's near Mars Hill which happens to have my favorite restaurant...El Dorado Latin Grill. Good luck!

We stayed in Maggie Valley, NC last summer it was about 45 minutes from Asheville. I know when I was researching cabins on VRBO there were one or two located on buffalo ranches. I thought that would be super cool but the size of the homes didn't work for us. You can google VRBO NC buffalo cabin and might be able to find them if that would interest you.

We've had great luck with VRBO. I just look for reviews, photos and when they joined.

I think $1500 sounds high but I've never stayed in Asheville. We paid around that for a house for 10 people.

Willow winds cabins have very nice grounds. I've never been in the cabins but others have told me they are nice. They do have direct access to the Mountain to Sea trail which runs along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

But if you want to be closer to multiple trails then I would suggest the Asheville Cottages. While they dont really offer direct access to the trails they are only a 5-7 minute drive from Bent Creek Recreational Forrest which has a ton of trails.

I'm not sure about Site A but Site B, as per their directions page, is near some homes, mine included, and I would not describe that as a neighbor hood at all. Willow Winds is in more of a neighborhood then Asheville Cottages.

That helps alot. It's so hard to tell from a website what things will really be like. The first time I rented a cabin in TN it had the amazing view it advertised, but forgot to mention that the cabins were stacked right against each other... I was so frustrated, I was hoping to avoid something like that again.
I also looked at VRBO, so I think there are many options. If anyone else has a specific property that they recommend I'd love to hear about it
