"One More Waffle!" An October 2011 TR! *Update 4/24, pg 70-The End!*

Welcome Back!!!

Sorry to hear that you are sick and your trip wasn't spectacular :(
I hope you are starting to feel better soon!!!!!

I think going in Sept or even October would be a good idea. Crowds aren't as crazy as in summertime. We've gone both months and october is much less crowded than september, but not by too much.

We must've been there at the same time. I'm so sorry you were sick, but yay for APs and another trip!

You were just there? It was a nice time to go, I could have done without all the rain though! :confused3

Yeah, being sick at Disney is not fun. But I'm glad I have another trip to look forward to, even if it is 9 months away. :rotfl:

Welcome home! Sorry your trip wasn't perfect! I do think sometimes the magic of WDW for us isn't going super often. We're ALWAYS excited to go because it's always been awhile.
Being sick is no fun! I hope you feel better

Thanks! No, it definitely wasn't perfect, but it definitely had it's moments! I tried to make the best of it while I was there! I think for Brandon, he needs his trips to be a little more spaced out, but me, I could go every month and be happy! I asked him today if we could go in May AND September and he got really upset and told me this is getting out of control! :rolleyes1 I guess I can be happy with one trip next year. We'll see!

Welcome home! Being sick on vacation is never good :( hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks! I hope I feel better soon too! I think I'm finally at the end of this cold, but it was pretty bad! I feel like every time I get sick it takes me a long time to get better, it's so aggravating, I hate being sick! :sad2:

Thanks!

My trip was ok, I don't want anyone to think it was terrible, it just wasn't what I was expecting, since I got sick! I don't want to slow down at Disney, I want to go crazy and go to the parks and run around and drink margaritas in Mexico and slushies in France and I couldn't really do that! I had to take it slow and sleep a lot.

I always thought September was less crowded than October? I have to figure out when my AP's expire...they say October 5 on them, but I thought they expire after their first use, which was September 29th I think? I should probably call and ask! I actually don't care when we go in terms of how hot it is, I know it will be hot in either September or October, but I'd like there to be as little crowds as possible!

We got ours May 16 and they expire the same day 2012. September is warmer, but its not a huge crowd difference from october. So don't fret over that!!!

I understand about wanting to go go go in Disney. Being too relaxed and needing tons of sleep just doesn't cut it on the fun-o-meter! I amglad your trip was good minus being sick!

Welcome back! Bummer that you got sick at Disney - I know what that's like and you have my sympathies! Glad it was still a good trip, though.

As far as September crowds, our first trip (2009) was the week after Labor Day. My understanding is that it is one of the lowest crowd weeks of the year. Weather was pretty nice and the parks were pretty quiet.

Did you upgrade from MYW tickets, or just buy AP's? Because I upgraded a few days after we started using our MYW tix, so I thought that that AP's expired the first day you started using your MYW tickets, but it says they expire 10/5! I'll have to ask one of the ticket people on the DIS!

Our first trip together was at the end of September in 08, and the crowds were SO low! :thumbsup2 I'd rather go in October if I could, that's why I'd like to know when my AP's expire, but I'll go in September if I have to! :rotfl:

Thanks! Yeah, being sick at Disney is awful, I hope this is the only time I have to deal with that! My next trip needs to be amazing to make up for this one! Not that it was bad, it just wasn't great because I was so sick.

I'd like to go the week after Labor Day, it seems like a nice time to go! I'm also thinking about August, when the parks are still open really late, I've wanted to do a summer trip for a while, to take advantage of the really late hours at the parks, so we'll see! :rotfl:

Just Around the Corner is a Fantasyland!

Hi everyone! I apologize if it's taking me forever to get caught up on everyone's TR's, I am just not getting better like I thought I would! I wanted to go Christmas shopping yesterday and I ended up staying in bed almost all day with a migraine. Then that went away, and my throat started hurting, which is strange, because it hurt the whole time we were in Disney, then I came home and it stopped hurting, but now it hurts again? I'm just so annoyed, I just want to feel better!!!! :sad2:

I'm hoping to start my December TR soon, in the next few days, but for now, I feel like I should update this poor, neglected TR!

Sunday, 10/2

Well, we just finished the thrilling Hall of Presidents show, and I was ready for some Fantasyland fun! So we went that way, straight to Peter Pan's Flight, only to see the line was ridiculous, already. What is it with this ride? I know it's cute, I love it, but I think the line is crazy, I can't see waiting 40 minutes for Peter Pan! We grabbed some FP's and kept walking.

Since Mickey's Philharmagic is just around the corner, we figured why not, and hopped in line! The queue area is so adorable, I love all the posters they have!

P1000469.jpg

The show was amazing, as always, I love everything about it! It's so simple, and yet, so Disney! I love seeing Donald interact with all of those different characters. The Jasmine and Aladdin part is my favorite, when Jasmine gives Donald the hat. :lovestruc

When we left Philharmagic, we weren't really sure what to do. I went over behind the castle for a minute to look for characters, and I think the Fairy Godmother might have been out, and possibly the Stepsisters, but I wasn't really interested in meeting them. I was searching for the Mary Poppins penguins. Apparently, I'm never going to meet them!

P1000471.jpg

Since we had some time before we could use our Peter Pan FP's, we went on Snow White's Scary Adventures one last time.

P1000472.jpg

I know it's going to be closing soon, so I wanted to make sure we went on it during this trip, even though it's not really one of our favorites. It's cute, but I'm kind of excited for the Dwarves mine train! :thumbsup2

When we left Snow White, I was looking over the walls to get a glance at the Beast's castle.

P1000473.jpg

It looks nice, I like that it's purple, but I'm not sure how I feel about there being 2 castles in the Magic Kingdom. I wish they would hurry up with the Fantasyland expansion. I feel like it's been taking forever. I barely remember what MK looks like without the walls up anymore. :rotfl: I know, I know, I'm impatient, but doesn't it seem like this expansion has been taking forever?

Well anyway, after my silent rant to myself (yes, I thought that while we were there, I think it pretty much every time I am near those stupid walls in Fantasyland!) it was time to use our precious Peter Pan FP's!

P1000475.jpg

So much fun! Ok, I take back what I said earlier about Peter Pan...I totally get why people wait 40 minutes for it, it's so magical! It really makes you feel like you are in the movie, and you have to love that you fly through it! :thumbsup2

I remember coming out of Peter Pan and getting really tired all the sudden...it seems like the late night and the early morning were catching up with me, so I wanted something that might wake me up. I was thinking of Auntie Gravity's in Tomorrowland, and I think I said something to Brandon along the lines of "I want something floaty." Of course, like most normal people he had no idea what I was talking about, so I just led him to Tomorrowland and then told him they have iced coffee floats at Auntie Gravity's.

We both got vanilla iced coffee floats

P1000478.jpg

and sat near The Lunching Pad to drink them. They were so good! We just sat and chatted and listened to other people talk about their days so far (yes, I listen to other people's conversations at Disney, I love hearing what other people are doing and planning for their trips!) and watched these adorable ducks drink water out of the cracks in the ground. (It's the little things I remember about our Disney trips. I didn't even have that in my notes!)

Once we were finished with our floats, we went through Tomorrowland, and saw that there was a line forming to meet Buzz Lightyear! I've wanted to meet him for a while, so we got in line, and I felt so stupid waiting...I hate being the only ones waiting for a character without kids. I don't know why, I know I have every right to be there, but it's so uncomfortable! I considered skipping it, but I really wanted to meet him, and there were only 3 or 4 families in front of us, so why not?

Brandon was actually excited to meet Buzz, he loves Toy Story, especially Toy Story 3! He wanted to ask Buzz about his Spanish mode, but for some reason, he didn't. He did say something to Buzz that got a reaction out of him, but of course, I forgot what he said. :confused3 Buzz was great, he took lots of pics with us, and I forgot all about feeling stupid because we didn't have kids with us!

Photo0028FourBySix.jpg

*Sigh* Smile, you're in Disney World!

Once we finished up with Buzz, we decided to do a Disney classic, the Carousel of Progress! While I love this show, it was pretty obvious how desperately it needs an update. I mean, not only the last scene when they are in the present, just the whole thing in general feels very old! I don't want them to get rid of it, I like that it reminds me of my childhood Disney trips, but just fix it up a little!

When we came out of CoP, it was pretty hot out and we were ready to head back to WL...but since it was so hot, we thought maybe we would go on Splash really quick, since we were leaving, it wouldn't matter if we got soaked. So we walked all the way across the park to Fronteirland!

P1000481.jpg

While we were walking, I noticed how cute Frontierland really is. It's never been one of my favorite places in MK, but something happened that day that made me really appreciate it. The music and the theme is just wonderful! It just gave me that "Oh my God, I'm in Disney World" feeling that I love, so now I have a new appreciation for Fronteirland!

P1000483.jpg

When we got to Splash, we saw that there was a 40 minute wait (yeah, those wait time app's for the Iphone? Totally unreliable!) and said forget it! We got a lot done in MK that morning and we were both ready for a rest, so we decided to go back to WL.

Up next...Brandon's new favorite restaurant!

Sorry you're sick! Seems like you can't catch a break lately. Just rest up and stay hydrated and maybe it'll all quickly. Tea with honey usually helps me a lot with sore throats.

I know what you mean about the wait time for Peter Pan. It's a great ride, and I love feeling like I'm flying off to Neverland, but the line is always so ridiculous that I never go on it. During MNSSHP, we waited 40 minutes for it, and that was during a barely crowded party.

That iced coffee float sounds so good! I know what I'm getting the next time I'm at MK.

I think it's a little awkward for adults to do character meet and greets, but in the end it's totally worth it. When I was on the cruise, I had some guests behind me in line give snide comments about taking up "kids' spots" and it made me a little uncomfortable, but after having some great interactions with the characters and getting awesome pictures to look back on, I brushed it aside.
I mean...who cares if you want to meet Buzz. Who wouldn't? Everyone else is just jealous that they have to let their kids spend time with him and won't get any time for themselves.:rotfl:

What app do you use for wait times? We use WDW waits and WDW maps, and they've never been off more than 10 minutes when we've been there. The only issue I have is that it takes awhile for them to post when rides are closed.

I hope you're feeling better soon! Ugh, what a time of year to be feeling miserable! :headache:

I think I discovered my new appreciation for Liberty Square on our last trip, so I totally get what you mean about Frontierland! I love Frontierland, it's one of my favorites - the music is so perfect, and I love the little details there! :lovestruc

Jen, sorry you aren't feeling well again. I feel your pain...my cold has come back and I'm really sick of it.

I used to be hesitant to have pictures taken with characters when it is just Mark and I, but I don't anymore. EVERYONE is a kid at Disney; we've had our fair share of snide remarks, but I paid my money just like everyone else and I'm having my picture taken if I want to.

It looks like a fun time at the MK. Frontierland is one of my favorite areas as well.

Sorry you're still feeling sick! Get better soon!

That's a nice picture of the Beast's castle. I'm with you on being excited for the mine train ride!

We just bought AP's, so I guess there is a difference there.

So sorry to hear you are still feeling sickly :( Hope you are better soon!!!

Those iced vanilla floats look delicious! We never really eat or go into CS places, but I find that reading about CS places on the DIS sound so yummy I need to put a few on my to-try list :)

I can not remember which restaurant you planned to eat at tonight so I'm excited to see why it's Brandon's favorite :)

Sending you some "get better quick" wishes!

I love Frontierland, too, especially when it's not crowded and it feels wide open, exactly like a frontier!

OMG, that coffee float looks awesome. I am for sure getting one on my next visit to MK!

I'm sorry that you got sick while you were in Disney. :( There is honestly nothing worse than that for sure.

OMG, another conversation eavesdropper!? I do the same thing when I'm in Disney! I'm like you, I just love to hear about what everyone is doing and how they feel about their trip.

I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy your trip as much as you planned! That is kind of what happened on our quick holiday trip November of last year. I realized on that trip that I needed to have two things to fully enjoy myself at Disney: months of planning, and at least a week there. Anything less and I just don't feel immersed in the magic. :confused3 I hope your Disney break isn't too long! But I completely understand the need to push back your trip in May. I think that is a smart choice! You don't want Brandon getting so burnt out that he doesn't want to go back!

I love listening to other people's conversations at Disney, too! I agree that it's so much fun to get a glimpse into their vacations and their plans. I think Frontierland might be my favorite land at the MK. It seems like we spend so much time there. :thumbsup2

Welcome back :) Sorry you got sick, there is nothing worse than getting sick on vacation :( Looking forward to hearing all about it though :)

Great update, its a shame that things were busy busy, but it looks like you were having a nice time :)

I have had good luck meeting Mary and her penguin pals at DHS at the animation building in the afternoon time randomly

There were so many characters I wanted to wait in line to meet, but the lines were really long when we were there. I feel a little weird when I am in line to meet any princess...they are only the characters I feel weird meeting as an adult :confused3

Wow, you are back from your second trip already...why must they go by so fast? Sorry that it wasn't all you were hoping it would be and that you were (and still are) feeling bad!

Love the update for October though. I can't understand the Peter Pan thing either. I don't think we've ever waited more than 20 minutes or so but my SIL, BIL and DN6 waited over 70 minutes for it during our June 2011 trip...and I was just in SHOCK! :scared1: Of course, it was one of the few rides DN6 would ride, so I guess that makes it a little easier to understand since he had already been on it once during that trip! :)

Can't wait to read more about BOTH trips!! Sorry Brandon is no longer feeling the Disney love. I think my DH gets like that too...but once we are there he is usually into it again thank goodness...or I'd have to leave him behind! :rotfl:

When we got to Splash, we saw that there was a 40 minute wait (yeah, those wait time app's for the Iphone? Totally unreliable!) and said forget it! We got a lot done in MK that morning and we were both ready for a rest, so we decided to go back to WL.

If you're using the Lines app (from touringplans.com) use the reported wait times instead of the regular list -- MUCH more accurate!

That's such a bummer that you got sick on your trip! It's so hard when you make all these plans for trips and then real life actually gets in the way. :sad2:

I get what you mean when you say Brandon being "Disney'd" out. I think Franklin might be heading that way after our October-March-October trip cycle that we're in the middle of. Luckily, my Dad's GF and I have been scheming about all of us going to Aruba for my Dad's 60th birthday in January 2013, so that would give us a nice, luxe, non-Disney vacation to look forward to (and the bonus would be it would only cost us for plane tickets!)

Back to the update. Love the picture with Buzz. We hadn't really done the character thing before our last trip and we found we really liked it. It's kind of like giving yourself over to the Disney magic completely.

Can't wait to hear about the rest of this trip and all about December, as well!

Thanks! It's strange, I don't really get sick very much, but when I do, it takes forever for me to get better. I can't just get a cold for a few days and get better, it's gotta be like, weeks long. I finally am starting to be better, my throat isn't hurting (I have been drinking tea with honey like you suggested, and taking zinc every 3 hours) and my nose is finally starting to de-stuff! :woohoo: This seriously better be it for like, a year.

The wait for Peter Pan is crazy. It's a great ride, but I wish there was a time you would walk by and see a 10 minute wait!

I would feel so uncomfortable if people made comments like that to us, about taking up kids spots! :scared1: That's really not fair, everyone pays the same amount to be there. If Disney didn't want just adults to meet the characters, they would make it a requirement to have a kid with you! I'm glad we met Buzz, he was awesome! And we only took up like, 2 minutes of his time! :rotfl2:

I have the Lines app, and the WDW waits, but sometimes they are both way off! Like once they told me that TSM had a 25 minute wait and we got there and I think it was like, an hour! I feel like once I look at a wait time on the phone, and we finally walk to that ride, it must change before the app can update!

:lovestruc

Thanks! I think I'm finally starting to feel better! :thumbsup2

I love discovering new areas of parks. I mean, you always know they are there, but you don't always appreciate them! Fronteirland is so cute, it was always just a passage way to Splash for me, but now I take my time and look around!

Jen, sorry you aren't feeling well again. I feel your pain...my cold has come back and I'm really sick of it.

Thanks! Ugh, it's hard to get better this time of year, everyone out shopping is sick, and the weather is so cold, I hope you feel better soon!

That's true, everyone is a kid at Disney! Luckily, no one has made remarks to us, but I'm sure it will happen sooner or later. :confused3 Normally I don't care, it's just when it is so obvious that we are the only ones in line without kids that it bothers me!

Fronteirland is awesome, I can't believe it took me so long to appreciate it!

Sorry you're still feeling sick! Get better soon!

That's a nice picture of the Beast's castle. I'm with you on being excited for the mine train ride!

Thanks! I'm trying to get better, slowly but surely! Everyone I work with is sick, so unless I call out for a week, I kind of just have to deal with it! :confused3 But I'm feeling much better since I did this update!

Thanks! I'm not sure how I feel about that castle, but I'm excited to see Fantasyland finished! I can't wait for a new coaster type ride at MK, that will be fun! :thumbsup2

We just bought AP's, so I guess there is a difference there.

So sorry to hear you are still feeling sickly :( Hope you are better soon!!!

I can not remember which restaurant you planned to eat at tonight so I'm excited to see why it's Brandon's favorite :)

Thanks, I feel a lot better today!

I like trying new CS places, I like the sit down restaurants much better, but sometimes you don't have time to sit and eat! The floats were really good, I love that floats are so available at MK, you can get them everywhere! :thumbsup2

Sending you some "get better quick" wishes!

I love Frontierland, too, especially when it's not crowded and it feels wide open, exactly like a frontier!

OMG, that coffee float looks awesome. I am for sure getting one on my next visit to MK!

Thank you! I'm feeling a lot better today!

I can't believe it took me so long to really like Fronteirland! I keep saying I love American history, and part of that is the old west and cowboys and I just never took the time to appreciate it til this trip!

The float was SO good! :cool1:
