Another great update! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Your kids are really cute.... I'm sure #3 will be cute too! :lmao::lmao:

They started playing some classic ghetto rap. Hardcore stuff like NWA, Cypress Hill and all the boys from Death Row Records.
Now that sounds like my type of party!!!!!! Hopefully, they were playing some Snoop and Warren G too!!!! :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :woohoo::woohoo:

Looks like you had some high quality entertainment there! :rockband: :charac2::charac2:

Overall, was the BYBBQ worth it? I feel $50 for some burgers and hotdogs, is a little over priced. :confused3

Up Next: An Epic Event in the Tri-State Area!
Hopefully, this doesn't include the pun-innator! :sad2: :sad2:

Nice update. Looks like y’all had a lot of fun. I didn’t realize that there was a show that went along with the Backyard BBQ, or I might have done that as well. As it turns out, we were over that’a way just a day or so later, but we chose a different buffet on the premises (which was good as well, but I’ll save that story for a little farther down the road in my TR).

Barry, I just want to say Thank you. This is the first time I've seen pictures and a good commentary about what the Backyard BBQ really is. I've never done it and never had much desire to, partly because I knew next to nothing about it. As Tim asked though, do you feel like it's worth the money? :confused3 Looks like a lot of fun, but that's the bottom line.

After filling ourselves on beignets (which isn't easy, since they're mostly puffed up air)
Not easy to do, but I'd be happy to try.

Mickey's Backyard BBQ started at 6:30, but since we got there a bit early, the kids found a little distraction with the horse shoes.
Evan throwing heavy metal objects... Looks perfectly safe. :lmao:

This is where I'd normally interject that it was "FREE!", but in reality, we already paid for it when we prepaid for the meal.
Let's be perfectly honest... nothing is "free" at Disney World. :lmao::rotfl2:

They started playing some classic ghetto rap. Hardcore stuff like NWA, Cypress Hill and all the boys from Death Row Records.
No House of Pain for the Badgers fans in the house?:confused3

The kids were all invited out to dance, but given the choice between dancing and ice cream, Evan chose...

...wisely.
::yes:: Smart kid.

The band then fired up again and Madison wasted no time in shaking her groove thing on the floor.
It doesn't take much to get her up and dancing, does it? :rotfl:

Cyclone Sally was introducing "the cutest little girl that I've been been dancing with all night." Why were none of us surprised to see this sight...
Madison just has a knack for finding the spotlight. :lmao::rotfl2:

Nice picture!

Madison looks like, "is that all you've got?? SO not impressed" :rotfl:

Glad you guys had a fun time at the BBQ! You don't see reviews of it a lot, strangely!

After filling ourselves on beignets (which isn't easy, since they're mostly puffed up air)

I'd say that's a good thing, since you were immediately headed to another meal.

The point was we were headed to Fort Wilderness, where the decorations are always in full bloom.

Please excuse my nostalgia. This is where we always stayed when I was a kid. Did you find the lawnmower tree? It's down near the dock.

Not sure what to say about the Christmas decorations. :confused3

Disney had waiters wandering around offering people lemonade or fruit punch. This is where I'd normally interject that it was "FREE!", but in reality, we already paid for it when we prepaid for the meal.

Giving the illusion of being "free" still seems preferable to having the guy tell you exactly what each drink costs.

It's a fuzzy picture, but this CM would spin his tray as we went back to the kitchen for more drinks. Let's see you do that with a full tray.

He tried that once. Now the drinks are no longer free.

Instructions were provided for those that had never ...um, eaten before.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

The food was great - hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, ribs, potato salad, corn bread, corn on the cob, baked beans, and cake. Soda, Beer and wine are all included in the price.

Mmmm...sounds like good stuff!

They put on a little schtick show and introduced us to....a band whose name I can't remember.

Spinal Tap?

They started playing some classic ghetto rap. Hardcore stuff like NWA, Cypress Hill and all the boys from Death Row Records.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

You must be insane in the membrane.

The kids were all invited out to dance, but given the choice between dancing and ice cream, Evan chose...wisely.

Good call, buddy. :thumbsup2

He then showed off some amazing talent. I'm sure his parents are very proud.

I've only seen a couple of pictures of him in action, and I can already tell he has more talent than the entire Kardashian family.

The band then fired up again and Madison wasted no time in shaking her groove thing on the floor.

I can't say I'm surprised by this.

Cyclone Sally was introducing "the cutest little girl that I've been been dancing with all night." Why were none of us surprised to see this sight...

Or this! Sally knows talent when she sees it!

The Backyard BBQ was a great time with good food and excellent entertainment. If you're not big into Country music you may not enjoy it quite as much, but I thought it was awesome!

Looks like fun! We saw some highlights of the CMA awards on the news the other night. Julie was watching and listening to the song clips. She turned to me and said, "This sounds...good. Do I like country music?" :confused3 :rotfl2:

Another great update! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thanks Tim!
Your kids are really cute.... I'm sure #3 will be cute too! :lmao::lmao:
Hopefully (s)he takes after Bambi. We find out on the 23rd if it's a boy or girl. :thumbsup2

Now that sounds like my type of party!!!!!! Hopefully, they were playing some Snoop and Warren G too!!!! :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :woohoo::woohoo:
Warren G? No, but they did dedicate a Kenny G song to you!

Looks like you had some high quality entertainment there! :rockband: :charac2::charac2:
They were actually a really good band.

Overall, was the BYBBQ worth it? I feel $50 for some burgers and hotdogs, is a little over priced. :confused3
What at Disney isn't over priced?
You're not going to get your value out of the food. If you do drink, the included beer & wine will certainly be a plus. But you're paying for the entertainment, the character dance party, the performers, etc. We've decided that we will go again - not every trip, not every other. But it was a lot of fun, so we'll do it again!

We did that one earlier in the trip. Good food there, too. :thumbsup2

Nice picture!
Thanks!

Madison looks like, "is that all you've got?? SO not impressed" :rotfl:
I guess when you've grown up on Castle Pyrotechnics, a guy spinning a rope just doesn't cut it. :confused3
Glad you guys had a fun time at the BBQ! You don't see reviews of it a lot, strangely!
We noticed that too when we were planning this trip. Not much information to go on, so we just decided to Wing(nut) it. (Sorry, I couldn't resist)
:thumbsup2

Like I told Tim, If you're just getting the food, it's not worth it. Add in the beer & wine (if that's your thing), the character dance party, the live music, the other entertainment...then yes, we thought it was worth it.
And we didn't even stay to the end. Having spent a good part of the day at the water park, the kids (OK, and the adults) were pretty worn out. For all we know, there may have been more entertainment after we left. :confused3

Not easy to do, but I'd be happy to try.
God speed, young man.
Evan throwing heavy metal objects... Looks perfectly safe. :lmao:
Nah, Disney had plastic ones out. (I think they saw him coming and switched them!)
Let's be perfectly honest... nothing is "free" at Disney World. :lmao::rotfl2:
Well...there's...uh...well, what about....

Nope. You're right.

No House of Pain for the Badgers fans in the house?:confused3
If they had a 3rd quarter to play it after, we'd Jump Around. It's in our blood. :thumbsup2

It doesn't take much to get her up and dancing, does it? :rotfl:
Music. And usually, not even that.
Madison just has a knack for finding the spotlight. :lmao::rotfl2:
I think it follows her.

I'd say that's a good thing, since you were immediately headed to another meal.
It's a little bit of a walk from the bus stop to the Pavilion. You can easily make room for another meal!

Please excuse my nostalgia. This is where we always stayed when I was a kid. Did you find the lawnmower tree? It's down near the dock.
I've seen pictures of it, but never remember to go find it when we're there. I should write that down somewhere...

Not sure what to say about the Christmas decorations. :confused3
How about "Merry Christmas?"

Giving the illusion of being "free" still seems preferable to having the guy tell you exactly what each drink costs.
Kind of like seeing the folks on the cruise with the trays full of colorful drinks. Then you notice the point of sale device hanging from his hip and realize - those certainly aren't included in with the cruise!

He tried that once. Now the drinks are no longer free.
And they had to send all of the napkin twirlers over from Chef Mickey's to clean up.

Mmmm...sounds like good stuff!
Mmmm...tasted like good stuff too!

Spinal Tap?
No, their amps only went to ten.

You must be insane in the membrane.
I was going to quote some more of that song, but I can't find a line that won't get me banned from the DIS. :confused3
:rotfl2:

I've only seen a couple of pictures of him in action, and I can already tell he has more talent than the entire Kardashian family.
:idea:Hmmm...I'm starting to get an idea here. Something about that bull whip and the Kardashians. I'm still putting it together, but I think you know where I'm going with this...

I can't say I'm surprised by this.
Nor were we. The hardest part about eating next to to dance floor is getting Madison to actually eat something before she goes running off.

Looks like fun! We saw some highlights of the CMA awards on the news the other night. Julie was watching and listening to the song clips. She turned to me and said, "This sounds...good. Do I like country music?" :confused3 :rotfl2:
Did you see the part with Miss Piggy? Good stuff.

And Julie - yes. Yes you do. So much so that you should buy Mark a cowboy hat.

And post pictures of it.:thumbsup2

Great update, Barry. I love the pic of Evan dancing. And I knew the moment you said the "cutest little girl" exactly who it would be. Madison just radiates with that smile.

Hey, if I send you my CD, can you photoshop the crane out of my MK photos? Send me a PM with your mailing address if you can.

I certainly can! PM is on the way...

I certainly can! PM is on the way...

Thanks, Barry. I'll mail it when I get back to work (off sick today).

I can vouch for Barry's mad Photoshopping skillz. Especially regarding the crane! :thumbsup2

I've heard great things about his skillz. Do you think he can work on making me look 20 years younger in the photos?

You've never seen the castle until you've seen the castle wearing a cheesehead! :thumbsup2

I have a cheesehead in my family; I certainly don't need my castle with one. :lmao::lmao:

I specialize in making that thing disappear. I'm the David Copperfield of the Castle Crane.

You've never seen the castle until you've seen the castle wearing a cheesehead! :thumbsup2
:scratchin:idea:
I LIKE IT!

Thanks, Barry. I'll mail it when I get back to work (off sick today).
Hope you're feeling better soon!

Not really. But I might be able to make everyone else look 20 years older, thus making you look younger by comparison.

I have a cheesehead in my family; I certainly don't need my castle with one. :lmao::lmao:
Of your two boys, he's my favorite. :thumbsup2

Friday morning rolled around and we tossed our stuff together for an odd sort of Disney day. Being that Bambi's parents live so close to Disney World, it's very rare that we go without them. But grandma had to work on Friday, and grandpa had a few job sites to visit that morning, so he would catch up with us later in the day.

So after a bite to eat, we tepidly strapped into the coolant dripping abomination and set off down I-4 East.

We pulled into the Hollywood Studio's parking lot and encountered our first bit of Disney UN-magic.
There are two ways to get into DHS's parking lot, but you circle the outside and eventually both paths converge. The path we were on was a two-way road, but some people decided to drive in the left hand lane and make it a two-lane one-way road. As we approached the spot where the two paths converged, we met several cars trying to turn down our path to leave the park (probably after dropping off guests or something.) Well, the people that were driving the wrong way in that lane caused quite a mess. The parking attendant was able to sort it out, but only by allowing those people to cut off us law abiding citizens and proceed to parking.
That in itself wasn't too bad, but it was what happened next that really got my goat. The parking lot attendant then held up our path and allowed the other line to proceed to be parked. So we waited, while he held his hand up to us and waved the others in.
And waited.

And waited.

And waited.

I looked behind us and saw scores of other cars waiting, so it wasn't just us.

And waited.

And waited.

Finally, I had enough. I gave a little honk to get his attention, then one of these ->:confused3 as a what about us?

I can't really describe the look on his face. Probably a mix of surprise that we actually wanted to go park and annoyance that I had the nerve to tell him that. He did finally let us go through, but our day was not starting out very magically.

We parked, gathered our stuff, and walked right past the parking lot tram. We were still close enough that it wasn't that long of a walk, and we've found that people that walk have a different bag check area than those that take the tram. So rather than be caught up in the middle of a herd of people trying to get their bags checked, we strolled up, waited for 3 people ahead us us, and were in the park before everyone even got off the tram.

I'm not going to blame the parking lot guy for making us miss rope drop - we didn't get an early enough start to catch it anyway. But we did head down to Toy Story Midway Mania for FastPasses.

However, we altered our usual touring plan for DHS and didn't head straight for Tower of Terror. Instead, we headed to a galaxy, far, far away.

Star Tours had just reopened a few weeks ago and we wanted to try it out. The standby wait was about 20 minutes, so we hoped in line. (I apologize for the lack of pictures of the attraction. I took some when we came back on a later day) It seemed to move pretty well and we soon had our 3D glasses and were getting settled into our Star Speeder 1000 where C-3PO (with some help from R2-D2) was our surprise pilot.

The ride was awesome - the new digital 3D effects were fantastic and random story line kept it fresh (we did hope right back on after our first ride). After successfully delivering our rebel spy for the 2nd time, we decided to turn left after the gift shop to check out Lightening McQueen's newly redesigned digs at Radiator Springs.

By now we had close to 30 minutes to kill, but our next line was already forming, so we stepped in.

IMG_7620.jpg

The new Phineas and Ferb meet & greet location is modeled after a - wait for it - movie set! Phineas and Ferb were shooting a movie at Disney's Hollywood Studios! (Just like Lights Camera Action! and The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. Come on guys, I know it's Hollywood Studios, but can't we think of something else?)

The set was their backyard, and everyone once in a while, a little Agent P would pop up from behind the fence for a look around.

IMG_7619.jpg

While we waited, we were entertained by music from Danville's radio station, playing all of Phineas & Ferb's hits. Then finally, it was time for everyone's favorite step-bothers to shoot the big musical number!

IMG_7623.jpg

IMG_7627.jpg

I think we were the 3rd or 4th family in line, so we got to watch some of the other things they had going on. While P&F were meeting with a family the "director" of the movie would cast extras to be in the movie. He pulled people out of line and dressed them up in grass skirts for the "Backyard Beach" scene. Nice job by Disney to keep the line more than just a line.

But finally, it was our time. Madison, to no one's surprise, started dancing.

IMG_7630.jpg

IMG_7631.jpg

IMG_7634.jpg

Evan, however, was a little more reluctant to shake what his mamma gave him.

IMG_7637.jpg

Which isn't to say he didn't have fun, he just doesn't dance quite a much as Madison. But then again, who does?

Photo0092FourBySix.jpg

IMG_7645.jpg

We said our good bye to Phineas & Ferb and headed over to one of Evan's favorite places - the Super Soaker at the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground. This boy would stand under that thing all day if you let him.

IMG_7648.jpg

IMG_7651.jpg

Soon after we meet up the Grandpa, found the key under the mat and got in line for MuppetVision 3D.

IMG_7656.jpg

It's nice to see Statler & Waldorf dressed in their "Florida Retirement Community" finest.

IMG_7673.jpg

Umm...I guess I don't know.
IMG_7675.jpg

The next picture on my camera was of Lord Vader, so it's a safe bet that we rode Star Tours again.

IMG_7680.jpg

Lunch was at Pizza Planet, and since it was only 11am it was still nice enough to sit outside and eat.

And what's the perfect compliment to lunch at Pizza Planet? Toy Story Midway Mania!

IMG00319-20110701-1219.jpg

(It's a little known fact that if you look though 3D glasses at normal, everyday 3D objects, they appear in 9D. It's so little known, in fact, that only Evan knows it.)

Scores: (By the way, these kids are getting good. I can remember when they could barely crack 1,000!)

IMG00320-20110701-1227.jpg

IMG00322-20110701-1227.jpg

Drat. Out of picture space. Keep reading in the next post...

The next picture I have in my timeline is from the line at Star Tours.

IMG00324-20110701-1249.jpg

So I'm sure it would be another safe bet to say we rode it again.

By the time we helped save the universe again (why can't it just stay saved?!?) it was starting to rain. We walked over to animation courtyard, where Evan wanted to see the Disney Junior Live on Stage show. They had updated it with the new Jake and the Neverland Pirates - one of his favorite shows. We stood in line and it really start to rain. I threw on a poncho, Evan threw on...me.

DSCF0969.jpg

Bambi and Madison were smart enough to wait out the downpour under the Art of Animation building's awning.

IMG_7681.jpg

Mickey & Gang!
IMG_7685.jpg

I know I've mentioned it before - probably even in this trip report - but the blinking characters are cool to look at, but pain to photograph. Notice Donald and Daisy above with their eyes closed? That was a common theme during this show. :headache:

Nothing better (or cheaper) to grab a kid's attention like bubbles!
IMG_7689.jpg

The Little Einsteins. (With Leo in full blink and Quincy with a half-blink, half-stoned look on his face)
IMG_7692.jpg

And finally, Jake, Izzy, Cubby and Skully, with Jake in full blink.
IMG_7697.jpg

And it wouldn't be Jake & The Neverland Pirates without Gold Doubloons! (Luckily, Disney substituted paper doubloons for the real gold ones. Those would hurt coming down from the ceiling.)

IMG_7701.JPG

After the show, it was over to the Art of Animation building to meet the Movie character du jour. ("What's the soup ju jour?" "It's the soup of the day" "That sounds good, I'll have that."). With the new Winnie the Pooh movie in theaters this summer, none other than that silly old bear himself was hanging around.

IMG_7709.jpg

Photo0107FourBySix.jpg

While we were at the Disney Junior show, grandpa had sneeked off and got some new ponchos for the kids. It had stopped raining, but they were just so darn cute that we needed to take a picture anyway.
DSCF0972.jpg

It was around this time that grandpa had taken the kids to the Beauty and the Beast show while Bambi and I used some FastPasses I had gathered earlier for Rock N Roller Coaster. If my memory serves, we had tried them earlier in the day, but the FP line was almost as long as the stand by, and neither were moving. We did get on this time, and barely made it across town in rush hour traffic to the concert! Wheee!

Thinking about it, you really don't see a lot of princesses in DHS, do you? Besides Ariel's show, I can't think of any. And there certainly aren't any meet & greet locations. But of course, leave it to Madison to find a Princess...

IMG_7722.jpg

We called in an early night after seeing Princess Leia and headed back to meet Grandma after work and relax a little bit.

UP NEXT Another Day at the Magic Kingdom! (Because you just can't have too many!)

Finally, I had enough. I gave a little honk to get his attention, then one of these ->:confused3 as a what about us?
:headache: Isn't it great when the ones who can't follow basic rules of the road get preferential treatment?

I can't really describe the look on his face. Probably a mix of surprise that we actually wanted to go park and annoyance that I had the nerve to tell him that. He did finally let us go through, but our day was not starting out very magically.
Have a magical day!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 :rolleyes1

Yeah... I mean it is Phineas and Ferb... Shouldn't it be a TV set?

The set was their backyard, and everyone once in a while, a little Agent P would pop up from behind the fence for a look around.
Hey, where's Perry?

But finally, it was our time. Madison, to no one's surprise, started dancing.
You know the saying... the only sure things are death, taxes and Madison dancing.

Soon after we meet up the Grandpa, found the key under the mat and got in line for MuppetVision 3D.
Love the Muppets!!! I kind of want to go see the movie Wednesday night before we leave... but I really need to get to bed early and rest up.:sad2:

By the time we helped save the universe again (why can't it just stay saved?!?)
Hard to make 6 movies about a universe being saved just once. :confused3

(Luckily, Disney substituted paper doubloons for the real gold ones. Those would hurt coming down from the ceiling.)
They might hurt, but it might actually be worth the pain. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

While we were at the Disney Junior show, grandpa had sneeked off and got some new ponchos for the kids. It had stopped raining, but they were just so darn cute that we needed to take a picture anyway.
Never fails... buy new ponchos, rain stops.

UP NEXT Another Day at the Magic Kingdom! (Because you just can't have too many!)
:thumbsup2 Ain't that the truth!

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks; still have the darn cold, but at least I feel human again.

Not really. But I might be able to make everyone else look 20 years older, thus making you look younger by comparison.

:headache::headache::headache:

Of your two boys, he's my favorite. :thumbsup2

Gee, why does this NOT surprise me????

LOVE the Studios update. I just love how Madison breaks out into dance. She doesn't have a shy bone in her body, does she? Be careful of that one when it is time for boys!!!!

I love the ponchos grandpa bought the kids...I've never seen those and they are adorable.

We pulled into the Hollywood Studio's parking lot and encountered our first bit of Disney UN-magic.

You forgot the other part of Disney Un-magic. Which was really more my issue the entire rest of the day than anyone elses. To this day, I wish I had complained to Guest Services.
