Re-categorization of Disney Dream & Fantasy rooms eff. Oct 18, 2011!

Got an even better deal on my two aft rooms! Room 7192 & 7194 on the Fantasy ! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
These two rooms connect and with door open between verandahs it is HUGE :lmao::lmao:Was told by friend who had these rooms on the Drean together they will almost be like 4 normal size verandahs! :rotfl:
7194 is the larger of the two .................. Saved some $$$$$$ :thumbsup2

I'm not sure I'm reading it the same way you are. It would be nice if they would go back and reprice based on the original booking day but I'm not thinking it will be done that way. But I could be wrong.

BTW...still haven't rec'd an email from DCL and we have 2 cruises booked for next year, one on each ship. We're in a cabin that is going to a higher category and wonder if that's why we haven't rec'd the email yet.

Got two emails yesterday and we are in cabins going to a higher catagory.

The process of making this change may take several weeks, but know that it will be coming in the near future.

Guests who are now in a higher category will not see a change in their rate or on their confirmations.

Please note that any future changes made to existing reservations are subject to the new rates. This change is valid for sailings after October 18, 2011, and cannot be applied to previous sail dates.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to visit www.disneycruise.com after October 18, 2011, or contact us at 1-800-939-2784. We look forward to welcoming you onboard.

Mine is going higher....but in a way, it really shouldn't. It's an accessible room, and on the other ships, the H/C's are in the same category as the ones they are next to, but larger because they're accessible.

And you're right....knowing Disney, a business that's in it for the money.....they probably won't go back to the original booking price. Time will tell.

Here's the whole email, for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Not sure if there is a rhyme or reason to when the emails are going out, but we received the email yesterday about our July 2012 cruise on the Dream going to a higher category. We have a (formerly) 5E room booked that is now being reclassified to 4E.

So I my Maiden Voyage Fantasy cabin goes from a 9A to a 9D. Since this was a room I chose I am a happy camper.

Really, I've seen all the views from all the ports before. I've always been a fan of the secret porthole rooms on the Magic and Wonder so this will be almost the same.

My TA just posted this about re-categorization of staterooms on Disney Dream and Fantasy.

Effective October 18, 2011, Disney Cruise Line will be re-categorizing 120 staterooms due to the unique features of each stateroom. Reservations booked prior to October 20 will be price protected if the resulting change is a higher category, but will receive a rate adjustment if the resulting change is for a lower category. The five new categories are:

4E – Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah – Oversized Verandah
5E – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah – Oversized Verandah, some with solid white wall
7A – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Navigator Verandah, Undersized or Obstructed Verandah
9C – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom, One Porthole, Obstructed View
9D – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom, One Porthole, Obstructed View – limited view of ocean

Previously Category 5C

Now Category 7A: 7022

Just stayed in this room!! Would do this room again and now that it is gone down to 7a it will be doable!!! :cool1:

So, I have room 5052 on the Fantasy. It is currently 5E. It looks like it will then be 4E. So I am getting a "deal" right? Not a refund? Is this a new category? I tried to look up prices for a 4E and couldn't pull any up. TIA:)

We will also be in room 5052 on the Fantasy but one year from now. I would love to hear what you thought about that room. My only worry was it too close to the elevators. It is very hard to tell by the ship plan whether there is a wall between the room and the elevators or not. I am glad that I booked it when it was a 5E because I don't know if I would have if it was a 4E.

Here is a pic of 8504 porthole I took on our January Dream cruise (same cabin layout as 8006 but reversed).....you can judge if your kids will be able to see out.

My 5 yo might be able to look out and see sky. Probably not water because of the angle. My 1 yo definitely will not be able to look out without being picked up and held. If it weren't for the extra space, I would definitely be irritated at the layout of the window. With the extra space, I think it's "okay", not something I would have complained about. But I won't turn down a refund either! ;)

Hi!

I am very excited about this room. I am not worried about the elevators, I like being close to the stairs and elevators. Never had a problem with noise. I am just a wee bit concerned being so close to the theaters. Still not too worried...actually kinda excited beacuse we are always running in late to the shows (now we will be close!!!) I always post a room report. We sail April 21st! I didn't even know it had an extended verandah until 2 days ago...silly me. So excited!!

We sailed in 8006 and my 4.5 yr old had to stand on the coffee table to see anything other than sky out the window.

Luckily DH and I are short (5.3 - 5.6) and I could stand up fine in the porthole. It makes a really cool echo sound when you talk while standing in there, like having a fish bowl on your head!

I'm not completely sure why they dropped the corner rooms further than the forward facing rooms, and called them obstructed views, since you can see less of the ocean from the forward rooms, unless it's because the window isn't centered on the room, making it hard to see out the window from the beds, etc..

I'm confused. I have a dummy reservation that needs to be moved. If I have the TA move it to the end of the year, and I do it before 10/20/11, then later move it to a 2013 date after they're released, do I still get the lower rate (the room we like is 7192, which will cost more after 10/20/11).

Did that make any sense?

Good question.....I don't know. but, DCL did say that any changes to your reservation would result in higher pricing. This is what was on the bottom of my email from DCL.

I would interpret what DCL said in the letters/emails as "YES" your "existing (dummy) reservation will be subject to the new rates".

We stayed in 5052 on our May Dream cruise . . . not only is the verandah longer, it's also much wider than most of the other 5E verandahs. It was huge! The deck plan is almost misleading when it comes to the elevators too - the entrance to the elevators is a doorway type area between the elevators and the stairs - not directly across from the room. The movie theater is close (which is handy) but we never heard any noise from there in our room. It was a great room! We tried to rebook it for our next cruise, but it wasn't available. We had to settle for just a "regular" 5E extended verandah room. ;)

Glad I complained on my comment card and to my TA about 7182. It is nice to see things recategorized to match consumer expectations. Of course it would have been nicer to actually have had them look at the rooms and make necessary changes earlier.

We were in this stateroom in May and have it again this mid November. The balcony is HUGE compared to the standard balcony. It's probably a good 8 feet from the verandah sliding door to the railing.

I got our e-mail notice last evening regarding the change in category. Dh said he doesn't care what it costs for that room, that is what we will be booking whenever we cruise.

Thanks for info. Do you have a picture you can share?

onecoolpilot - If I'm understanding your question correctly you have a dummy ressie that you want to transfer to a 2013 date when they are released. The dummy ressie doesn't secure a lower rate when you transfer to the date you want to sail; it only secures the 10% fare reduction, the reduced deposit and the onboard credit. You will pay the prevailing rate at time of booking for your 2013 ressie, it wouldn't matter if you booked your dummy date before or after 10/20/2011.

Hope this makes sense.
