Can't believe it took me this long to find you !

I am from Southern NB, Canada, and have a DW, DS (17) and a DD (12).

We are going next Sunday. :cool1: I am the planner in the family and this is our 4th trip. We've done Christmas :santa: (my favourite), Summer (HOT) and early fall (still Hot).

My son is a horror show freak. I thought aboyt taking him too MNSSHP (done that b4 as well), but somehow he found out about HHN. Guess where we are going? ;)

He's graduatung, I am 40 and feel 60 (darn arthritis). Love to golf, but only get out occassionally. Daughter is in that " Daddy can I have..." stage. (I will resist, I will resist, I will resist..I never resist ) Easier toi give in then deal with demon daughter. :littleangel:

Hope to be able to join the club!

Chris

Great to have another NBer around here. Watch out for that guy from TO.;)

Wow the opp might be coming to get in on some Disney Stock, with the stock market taking a tumble Dis stock is down to $29 and change, compared to over $40 a couple months ago:eek:

I would love to get in for 1000 shares at like $20 a share, the way things are going it might happen:confused3, and with all the things happening with Dis in the next couple years, IMO it will be a good payday:banana:

My wife is due at the the end of October (she has been on bed rest since may) so at least she will be able to help me a little more soon. Of course we will have a new born on our hands so I'm thinking it's not going to get much easier soon. I am praying for a healthy, good sleeping baby boy.:thumbsup2

Congrats on the new addition! I hope your wife is feeling well. bed rest since May? ugh.

Funny thing happened last night. We are at the dinner table which faces the back yard and we were having a nice conversation about what DD learned in school that day. Well, right in the middle of my sentence I happened to see something running across the back fence... it had a rather large pine cone in its mouth. Without even thinking... and without skipping a beat... I said "Look! Squirrel!" :lmao::lmao: And after everyone was done looking at the squirrel we all turned to each other and had a good laugh! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

:squirrel::squirrel::squirrel:

:lmao::rotfl2:

I could use some of Fed's happy pills today. My hip is about 3 shades of purple, blue and black today.:headache: I had a softball game last night and I play first base. I was one of the last batters the prior inning, and we had the 3B dugout, so I just stayed to coach first. I was talking to a guy on the other team when another player walked by me carrying a bat. All of a sudden I feel a sharp pain on my hip. I thought the guy who walked by hit me with the bat. Just as I'm starting to turn around to say something I see a softball on the ground near me. About that time their second baseman starts apologizing and I hear somebody in the dugout say "Holy $@&%, what did that hit? It sounded like it hit a wall!" It hurt like Beverly, but after hearing that I wasn't about to let on that it hurt. I just picked the ball up and tossed it back to the guy.... then I went home and got the ice out.:lmao::rotfl2: We won the game, but it probably helped that they had Chuck Knoblauch playing 2B.:rotfl2:

Early in the spring I was standing on 3B when a guy who goes by the name of "Lumber" ripped a line drive at me. It was knuckling and I guessed wrong. It smacked off the side of my knee... that hurt! Be thankful yours was a knoblauch! Still feel your pain... i'd let you partake of my vicodins if I could.

This is a very good investment at the current price, imo. DIS pays 40 cents/share currently, so getting in at under $30 gives you a 1.3% return on your investment in cash (regardless of paper gains/losses), which is better than you're going to find on any savings/mutual fund (and most bonds) at current. With the market at a low, and DIS at the low end of its 52 week avg. you're also in good shape for a big appreciation when the market turns.

I think it's going to go alot lower in the future, with Gold & Silver taking a big dump in the last few days, I can foresee the stock market is going to bottom out again, a few years ago when the market plunged it was well under $20 a share:eek: But in the big picture of things I'm thinking all the plans Dis has with the parks in the next couple of years will bring the stock way up, followed by the opening of the Chinia Dis park to bring it to a split:confused3

Great that it is Friday but it is even better that tomorrow is Saturday. Snacks are purchased, the couch is ready and the batteries on the remote are changed. A number of great games are on tap tomorrow. The Gators are playing the first road game of the year at Kentucky. Hopefully it will be a good outcome.

Update on DD. She wore the patch to school and is coping well. When I picked her up on Thursday, I asked her how it went and she said, "Do you know how many bad pirate jokes I heard today?" One of her friends that saw her "pirate pic" on her Facebook page, brought her a sword. Today she comes down and tells me, "I shouldn't have worn this." She was in a black school tee, shorts and boots. "I look like a pirate. Shouldn't have done that."

Of course I was my sympathetic self, pointing out that my earlier kidding was to toughen her up for school. Don't know why but she didn't appreciate my parenting skills.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Mornin' Duck! Sorry to hear about the cold. Unfortunately, they've been going around the midwest. I've managed to fight mine off so far after the wife and daughter brought it home.

Oh...and welcome home by the way.

Off to get new brakes for the car... hopefully when I get there, I can stop - so they can put the new brakes in.

Mornin' folks.

WISDOM NEEDED FROM THE GROUP

Guys,

I've droned on and on about my trials with our scout troop here before, and now I'd like some advice. I received the following email from our Scoutmaster last night. After finishing laughing and resisting the temptation to respond immediately, I've put extensive thought into this, and I'm pretty sure how I'm going to respond (really no differently that my previous discussions with this guy, but I'd like to hear your thoughts as well. Plus it'll give me an opportunity to vent without doing it publically.

Hi Chris --

I heard indirectly ... at least 3rd hand ... that you remain very concerned about bullying among the boys in Troop [XXX]. I'd like to talk with you again on this topic.

How are we defining "bullying?" Do we think it's intentional?
Is there any pattern regarding who is doing the bullying and who is being bullied? Are there key offenders?
Can the Troop change the environment to eliminate this behavior?
Don't interpret this next question to mean that I don't care ... but, is the behavior outside of what's normal for boys? These guys may be Scouts, but they are not angels.
What kind of campaign can we undertake to bring awareness to this behavior, and influence change?
I think my Scoutmaster Minute last week about "being kind vs. being right" gets to the core of many unpleasant comments ... it got some good applause, any way!
I plan to regularly hit similar topics.

Years ago, Troop [XXX] had a reputation. I believe my efforts and those of other Troop leaders have largely corrected the situation. I don't think we have a big problem, just a problem that is typical when dealing with 11-17 year old boys. Nevertheless, it's a concern that always needs to be addressed. I am not blowing it off ... but would like to hear more of your concerns and ideas for an action plan.

Most of all, I would ask that you are sensitive to the grapevine in [town]. We focus a lot of energy on recruiting boys and parents into the Troop, and negative talk can undo a lot of hard work.

I hope your weekend at Gilwell is absolutely awesome. Let's find time to chat. Maybe some of the Wood Badge sessions will lead us to new solutions.

Bill

What do you think?

Good afternoon Dads!

Heading to work... after staying off the Vicodin all week so I could be alert for my kids, I'm considering popping one once I get on the train. Guess I'm not so concerned about being alert at work. :rotfl2::lmao:

hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start! :thumbsup2

Hey Everyone hopw the weekend is going well for you!

I am on call until 3pm today and have yet to be called in today...that is one of the signs of the apocolypse I htink....anyway....After three I am going to try to find the Marshall Virginia Tech game on TV and kick back and then get the yard in shape....it is a beautiful day here!!! Makes you want to be outside and enjoy it before it turns colder!

If Fl brings their red shirt/ back-up squad, there would still be a good result for FL. KY doesn't have much in football.

What do you think?

How do we define bullying? Translation - Do you really know what you are talking about?

I had a similar thing with soccer last year. I was ignored. I felt vindicated when we defeated the other team w/o fouling this year, but poor behavior was still left unchecked. Good luck. I just got into a shouting match with the other coach on the side line, which was not a good example. I did arrange for a more experienced referee for the 2nd time we played which helped.

That was exactly my thought! Nevermind that I'm a freakin' pediatrician!

Fortunately, I don't need to try to define bullying. The state statutes define it for me already.

"any overt acts by a student or a group of students directed against another student with the intent to ridicule, harass, humiliate or intimidate the other student"

"bullying expressly includes, but is not limited to, a written, oral, or electronic communications, or physical acts or gestures that are based on any actual or perceived differentiating characteristics, such as race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, socioeconomic status, academic status, physical appearance, or mental, physical, developmental or sensory disability, or by association with an individual or group who has or is perceived to have one or more of such characteristics"

Unfortunately, these occurances happen a lot in our Troop. Carl asked on another thread if my son is being bullied. The answer to that fortunately is "no" he is not. But I would not let him into a situation where this could occur (i.e. I don't leave him alone in the Troop meeting, but sit in the back of the room, both to make sure that he doesn't get out of control from his sensory overload or get bullied)

DISDad Scouting Doctors,

I've not done Scouting, my hats off to you. I am sorry to hear of the challenges you guys are up against. What I would do, is what is right, and follow my heart and gut. Don't do anything that you will regret later. Be proud of your place in your son's life! And...
