Halloween Quest PTR~~THE TRIP IS OFFICIALLY OFF!

The hotels all look great ... especially the Maingate.

And yes, winning the lottery would make things so much easier!

We're pretty excited!! We've stayed at a Homewood Suites last summer for one night & wowsers......super nice!!! We're hoping all the others are just as nice for the upcoming trip!!

I just got Shyann's allergy testing results in the mail......holy cow......we're in for a wild ride!! We already knew she was allergic to eggs, but we also found out she's allergic to milk, wheat, peanuts & soy. She's also allergic to cat & dog dander, elm & walnut trees, ragweed & cockroaches.

Cutting eggs out was already a process, but to avoid wheat & soy is gonna be killer!! Soy-lechtin is a biggie in things right now & of course wheat is pretty widely used.....yikes!!!

Well you still have meat, potatos & other veges (except soy) and fruit but it is going to make it pretty hard to eat out anywhere but a salad bar or to eat anything that has been processed or convinience foods because they are loaded with that stuff!

It's a good thing she likes vegies!! I'm just concerned about getting her a healthy balance. She's not a meat eater (except for shawshish/sausage as she puts it) lol Requesting the dr refer us to a nutrionalist/dietician so we have all the facts & help in this area.

one of the assistant teachers in my labs schools little girl is allergic to a ton of things to on top of being a hugely picky eater she says a lot of the "health food stores" have things her daughter can eat. Sounds like shell need to go vegan though lots of fruit and vege! I hope you get a good nutritionalist that sounds like a challenge

Thanx Sid!! It will take some research & careful planning, but in time....we'll get this all figured out. It might be the way for me to go as well. I've not been tested, but I have lots of issues with food......so I think I may have allergies to milk & wheat myself. I'll be curious to see if I feel better by eating right along side Shy!!

It would be hard to go vegan without soy. My cousin is vegan and a vast majority of her protien is soy. Does shy like beans in general? You might be able to get some protien in her with homemede bean based soups/stews

Shy LOVES beans....you can give her beans (of any kind) in her bowl & she'll eat them all up.....that's a bonus for sure!!!!

Just picked up a couple items to try & couldn't believe the prices for allergy-free groceries....ridiculous!! I understand charging more for "organic" but sheesh, people with allergies don't chose to be.......in sticker shock!! :scared1:

The AP site announced Mickey's Halloween Party Dates!!!!! The first party is Sept 30.....that is awesome news for me!!!! We were really hoping we'd miss the first party night.......heard it's crazy busy......so we'll attend twice during our trip: Monday (unusual night, but that's what they listed) Oct 3 & Friday Oct 7th!!!!! So excited to see the dates announced. Now, will I get money in time to purchase my AP, so I can get the discounted ticket price.........might just have to wait for general sales & pay full price......time will tell!!!

Laurie -

With your change of dates you will be in the parks at the same time as us. It would be fun if our families could meet up at some time.

Thank you so much for posting the dates on here. I am super excited, since Iwas afraid we might have to miss the parties with our back and forth between dates. Sorry Shy has so many allergies, soy and milk is hard and I really hope you can find a good nutritionist. How about oats and corn. Chex (the cereal is gluten free) I tried the honey chex and it was pretty good. I hope it all works out for you. My friend is still waiting for her check also.

That's great........very excited!!! :woohoo:

I'm glad they are starting on Sept 30, I really wanted to avoid the first party......so hopefully the 2nd night (especially being on a Monday) won't be too busy!!!

We're working our way thru the allergy thing......just gonna take us being very careful. Oats & corn both seem ok.

Has she even received a letter from the IRS?? It sounds like they've mailed letters to people telling them either they need more documentation or they're reviewing the stuff.....we haven't gotten anything yet.

I read somewhere that it would take 18 weeks..........I'd just like to see something telling me that I am FOR SURE getting this & estimated time to see the check in the mail. Its the unknown that worries me!!!

Hey Laurie - I have been MIA from the boards for a while (need to get over to the Diva thread) but glad to see you have dates! And it looks like we will be at the Halloween Party on the same night!! I am currently confirming with my girlfriends but Mon 10/3 would be when we would go! Love to meet your family!

Take care!

I'm not sure if she has gotten anything yet, she has not said a thing about it recently. Though she goes to school with me and we've had finals, plus she had surgery yesterday and I still haven't heard from her. She has a tendency not to do well with anesthesia, so I am a bit concerned. I'll let you know when they hear something.

Sounds great Bridget!! I know when our dates moved back that far, I remembered you were going to be there at the first of the month too......so yay!!!

Ok thanx......so much unknown from everyone I talked with....I guess we'll get it when we get it (if we get it.....lol) If we don't this trip will not be happening......so fingers crossed the IRS will come thru!!

Hope your friend is doing ok!!

It says on the AP site that the Advance Purchase can be done up till the day before as long as there are tickets available :cool1:

Sorry to hear you will be dealing with all kinds of Allergies! My friend I am taking to DL next month is allergic to Wheat, Dairy, Eggs as the main things and I know Oat is another... She says not to worry about where we eat but I am still concerned she will be able to have enough choices. Especially at the character meals...

You can call ahead & speak with a chef that can go over some things before you arrive. If you call Disney Dining, they'll transfer you to one of the head chefs or they'll give you a phone # to call. Leave a message & it usually takes up to a week for a phone call back.....but they are a wealth of info & made us feel at ease prior to our summer trip.

Also, EVERY place you eat at, ask to speak with the manager due to food allergies, either the manager will come out & they have a book with all the ingredients listed for every item OR the chef will come out. The chef made a special plate for Shyann every meal (at no charge!). We were warned, not to take any of the CM's word on allergy free stuff as they are wanting to help but are not always trained to give that advice. The chef we spoke to said they've had 2 incidents where the CM wanting to be helpful gave advice & it ended up having something in it that cause a bad reaction.

Disney is great with working with special dietary needs & are ready to help, so don't feel you're putting someone out. There are tons of choices as long as you know what's safe!!!

Laurie -

Spoke with my friend today and she is feeling better, Thanks. The additional paper work they have been asking for is the subsidiary paper work (agreement and/or paystub) indicating the children are special needs. If you filed this information with your return they probably won't need anything. They keep getting told it is in processing.
