Most Expensive / Moist Exhausting Continued - Final thoughts and wrap-up

I go into hibernation for a week and when I come out Glenn's report has split in two, Judy has left PChef, and Marv has been replaced as the problem child.... :confused3:confused3:confused3 Was I really only missing for a week????

You went through a black hole and entered some weird alternative universe. I'm glad you found me though!

We've gotten enough pages into this thing that I really need to put up an update. I had intended for it to be longer, like all of our World Showcase tour, but I'm not anywhere near having that done, so....problem solved -- a shorter chapter! Coming right up.

Day 7 - Part 5

When we left off last time, Marlene, James, and I had backtracked from Canada to Future World in order to give Judy her park pass, as well as those of Lauren and James, who would be leaving with her to go back to Kidani. Lauren was not feeling well  and James preferred to kick butt at the foosball table in Community Hall than to tour the World Showcase. So, with the park passes and James having been delivered to Judy, Marlene and I bid them adieu and ventured back to the World Showcase.

Since we’d already stopped in Canada earlier, we passed right on through and continued on to the UK. As soon as I saw the red phone booths I remembered that I had the number for one of them programmed into my cell phone. When I was planning the trip I saw on the DIS where somebody had posted a phone number for one of these booths and I had entered it into the list of contacts on my phone. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw the booths, and I wasn’t even sure if it’d work. I told Marlene about it and she was really excited to try it out. As we approached, I found the number in my list of contacts and hit Send….and the phone in the first booth rang! Marlene picked up the receiver and talked to me while I took these pictures.

Well that was kind of fun, but you know that real fun will be in trying to get someone else to pick up the phone. We positioned ourselves across the street and hung out for a minute or two until some people came near the phone booths, and then I dialed. (This looks like something out of Candid Camera, doesn’t it?)

IMG_3729.jpg

This little kid walked up to the doorway…and then turned around. Aw nuts. C’mon kid!

IMG_3730.jpg

Other people walked by and it seemed like they couldn't hear the phone ringing. So, Marlene went over and picked up the phone and talked rather loudly so passersby could overhear. It went something like, “WOW, I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M TALKING TO SOME RANDOM PERSON ON THE PHONE AT EPCOT. THIS IS SO COOL!”

IMG_3731.jpg

That didn’t work either -- everyone just kept waking. Oh well. It was worth a shot.

We decided to continue on with our mission, well, Marlene’s mission really, to make a certain purchase in France. Plus, I looked at the time and realized that Serveur Amusant was due to perform soon, so if we got moving we should be just in time to catch his show.

Judy had received some Disney Dollars, or Mickey Money as I call it, from her PChef director as a congratulatory gift for earning the trip. She hadn’t spent it on anything yet, so she wanted us to use it for this purchase to be sure that it got used. Once we got home, it’d only be good at the Disney Store. (I don’t recommend paying your local bookie with these bills. And for that matter, I don’t recommend interacting with bookmakers either, but that’s beside the point.) Anyway, this was going to be a purchase out of Marlene’s spending money, so she gave Judy $20 cash for these Disney Dollars, if anyone’s keeping track.

IMG_3732.jpg

We got to France and Serveur Amusant wasn’t out yet, so we went directly to the shop that Marlene had in mind. Here’s what she was about to buy. (The beret, not the mirror, lovely as it is.)

She was very happy with her purchase.

Somewhere, somehow, Marlene has developed a love for all things France, and Paris in particular. She has some Eiffel Tower items decorating her room, she’s taking French in school, and has just started writing to a French girl pen-pal that her teacher arranged. I think she saw the berets in this shop last year, and had set her mind on getting one when she was thinking about how to spend her money at Disney. I’m not sure that anyone actually still wears berets in France, but don’t tell her that.

We didn’t spend very long in the shop, and soon were back outside. This area is so picturesque.

Then I had Marlene get in the photo.

I played around with this picture in Photobucket a little bit. I have this one:

And then I did a little more tweaking, to put Marlene in black and white.

I think my favorite is the Marlene-in-black-and-white, but Judy likes the color one better. I have no idea which Marlene likes! Anyway, which one do you like better?

Up next: You’re in Morocco
Link to next update

That stinks that i'd get one with ZERO Judys!

0 Judys!!!

ETA: Darn, Liesa you beat me! You're fast!

I was definitely due for one, but alas, it was one with NOT a single point in it. Bonus for atually going back and reading Glenn?? for the record, I like the one with color best.

Got me a phone call caper as well, but a different Pavilion. ;)

Are you sure you didn't see her in the crowd somewhere? Holding the Mickey money? In the mirror at the shop?

Just kidding....it counts, you still win ALL the points for this round.

0 Judys!!!

Ohhhh, so close!

You get one bonus point for reading, and minus one bonus point for liking the picture that Judy likes best instead of the one I like best.

I have more coming up. I've been seeing them in several TRs these days...Tanya's, Amy's (yes, I haven't had a chance to comment yet). But they can be fun!

5 Judy's!!! :woohoo:

Well, the name anyway, and some difficult person mentioned that those should be listed as Judy sightings too, so let me be the first!!!! ;)

At least you have to give me credit for reading this time Glenn!!! :confused3

Oh, I have GOT to get those phone numbers in my phone for next trip!!! Tell Marlene nice beret! And I see she has gotten into that Silly Bandz craze like Drew...... :rolleyes1

Fun update! That must have been special to just have Marlene with you:goodvibes. My DD's get excited when it's just one on one time with either DH and myself.

I love how you messed around with the phone booth!:lmao: I didn't know you could actually call the number, that is very fun! We'll try it for sure next trip.

Marlene looks fabulous in her beret too.:thumbsup2 I actually prefer the original pic of her, it's softer and pretty. You know, my middle DD has a fixation on Paris too. I don't know why, maybe because I read Madeline to hear so much as a young girl? Regardless, she loves all things Paris!

I'd forgotten to comment on Judy's PChef news too! I'm sure it'll be an adjustment for her but it sounds like the right decision. Teaching is such a wonderful profession! (I used to teach before I had my girls) It is time consuming with lots of prep work involved so I can completely understand her decision to let PChef go, there's only so many hours in the day! I wish her all the best!:goodvibes And for the record, I LOVE all my Pampered Chef products too! My very good friend from college began her business with them and I have been to many a PChef party and left with way to much merchandise! Tell Judy it's good stuff!

OK, I have GOT to tell you about that guess that I only BARELY squeaked in- it actually had drama to it.

I was DISing earlier and accidentally hit the keyboard key something-or-rather that gave some weird message, and I pushed "OK", and went back to looking at who had what up today.

Then, I read your post that one was coming and was going to reply-

"Great, short posts are great! I'll be watching."

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT, when I went to type it, I COULDN"T!!!!!

Knowing that the post was imminent, I shot upstairs as fast as my short little out of shape legs could carry me, and opened Explorer on the desktop.

THis was WHILE I was scanning the post on my non-typing netbook. Quickly counting I hit reply on the desktop,b ut realized I wasnt' logged in, and today our internet seems interminably S L 0 W!!!! Finally, it logged me in and I could post. UGH!!

I just restarted my netbook and now it is typing fine. BUT PHEW! That was a seriously scary moment of not getting any points!!

Very cool about the number for the phone booth! I had no idea! :thumbsup2

And those pictures of Marlene in front of the flowers are awesome. :goodvibes

It went something like, “WOW, I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M TALKING TO SOME RANDOM PERSON ON THE PHONE AT EPCOT. THIS IS SO COOL!”

IMG_3731.jpg

at least you didnt talk to some guy in yellow shorts and tell him his legs looked sexy.

that would have just been weird.

good update, and i like the photos i didnt know you could edit them like that.

:thumbsup2

I like the color one better too. But it is a beautiful setting and a beautiful subject. Marlene looks great. My youngest still wants one of the painted parasols.

Sorry the phone booth didn't work out better. I've read of people calling from all over and getting random people to answer the phone. I would love to surprise my kids one day because you know they just have to take a picture in the phone booth.

Dagnabbit. I was hoping you'd get to ask people if they had Prince Albert in a can, or if their refrigerators were running. Sigh... :sad2:

Once we got home, it’d only be good at the Disney Store. (I don’t recommend paying your local bookie with these bills.)

Yeah, I won't be doing that again.

I’m not sure that anyone actually still wears berets in France, but don’t tell her that.

You'll just have to go and find out for sure. And where are the Glenn beret pictures? :confused3

Yet another great shot! :thumbsup2

I played around with this picture in Photobucket a little bit.

I think my favorite is the Marlene-in-black-and-white, but Judy likes the color one better. I have no idea which Marlene likes! Anyway, which one do you like better?

I think I have to go with the color one. Seems more in the spirit of Renoir...or Monet...or whoever you're going for here. Durer, maybe? ;)

How did you take that picture of Marlene in the mirror without getting yourself in it??? I have never figured out how to do that!!!

They removed the doors on the phone booths? I wonder why? It's too bad nobody had the GUTS to pick up the phone. OR, they thought it was one of those Disney sounds that they pipe in to give a more realistic feeling. :confused3

Aww, it's so nice that she's so interested in another culture like that. It'll be cool to see if she actually continues to improve her French and comes back years later and can speak fluently with the CMs in French!

I like the black and white one better. It reminds me of the opening sequences of old 80's television shows. Like "Live in Color".
