Official Fantasyland Expansion Q & A (Mickey gets evicted)

Just wanted to hello, Brenna. :wave2: Have not seen you around in ages. I know I have seen quite a number of posts from folks missing you too. Nice to see you again.

I absolutely ditto that! Glad you're back posting on some threads!

As the PP commented, the following are princesses by birth:

Snow White
Aurora
Jasmine
Ariel

The following marry into royalty:

Cinderella
Tiana

The following are not technically princesses, but Disney has included them in the Princess marketing plan so they are recognized as princesses:

Belle (she and Beast never technically marry, but it is assumed)
Pocahontas
Mulan

That completes Disney's 9 person princess line.

When Tangled was up and coming, Disney said they would not put Rapunzel into the Princess Line immediately, in fear that Tangled would be labeled another "Princess Movie." However, Rapunzel will be added to the line in the near future.

Alice, Wendy, and Mary Poppins are not part of the official Princess Line, but Alice was included as a princess in the Kingdom Hearts game. Alice and Mary Poppins also appear at "Princess Meals" at Walt Disney World, although not regularly.

I think it's funny that Disney didn't want to label Tangled as a princess movie for marketing the flick, but wants to be all over it for selling merchandise!

It's hard to see over the fence now. It's lined with trees.

Did anyone notice that Ryan called Rapunzel the newest Disney character during the Christmas Day Parade? It sounded like he was going to say Disney Princess, but at the last second said character.

I got back on the 18th. I overheard the conductor for the train say they are closing down the train stop I forget when he said but it will be soon.
The Pooh ride is finished and what they did was make it worse instead of better. The kids interaction area is right next to the que and some of the things are in the line with the people. The fast pass line and the standby line funnels into this one lane just below the ramp up to the loading area. The CM who was taking fast passes did not know how to blend the two lines together. When I was in the stand by line I didnot expect to be standing by and letting 30 or so people go by before the CM let any of the stand by go ahead. Obvislly(sp) she didn't know her job. All in All this was a true miss I think they should rethink the que for this ride.

The General/Captain Li Shang is also a prince, so That sort of does make Mulan a Princess for being married to Li Shang.

- Dwight

Li Shang is not a Prince. He is just a Captain/General. I don't know where people are getting that. If you could point me to the source, please do so. I would really like to see it. :) I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I never once read/heard that he was a prince of some sort outside of people saying he was. She was given a royal crest from the Emperor so that kind of makes her a "princess".

I do wish that they would change the name back to Rapunzel. The name "Tangled" is just awful. :sad2:

I noticed some of the Aurora/Briar Rose merchandise I saw at Target has her labeled as "Sleeping Beauty". I was so sad to see that giant box with the princess barbie dolls and each had their name in front of them and in front of Aurora/Briar Rose, it says, "Sleeping Beauty". :sad2:

I believe it's closing with Toon Town which is mid-February. The train itself is not closing, just the Toon Town stop.

It will still be done by 2012. If you view Fantasyland Forest and Pixie Hollow as two seperate entities, it's a bit easier to comprehend. The plan has always been for Fantasyland Forest to open in 2012 and for Pixie Hollow to open in 2013. Since Pixie Hollow has been completely scrapped, Dumbo will be moved to the spot where Pixie Hollow was supposed to be and there will be a patch of land in the back corner of the park that will be saved for future expansion.

So when Fantasyland Forest opens in 2012, the Beauty and the Beast + Little Mermaid realms will be complete, Dumbo will have been moved and doubled, the Barnstormer will have been rethemed, and the Dwarves' mine coaster will be complete as well.

So then ALL of the planned expansion will be done by 2012? Any estimate of when in 2012...first quarter, summer, Christmas?

Is there then nothing that will be waiting to finish in 2013?

We're doing DIsneyland for 2010-2011 and then we were thinking of trying to do DL Paris in 2012 so we could wait for all of WDW to be done before we go back. The idea being that WDW would have the feel of a whole new park if we waited until it was complete instead of trying to come partial through?

The area previously announced as Pixie Hollow will still open in 2013 - Disney has not made an official announcement regarding what that area will include.

Dumbo remains in the area just north of the Speedway so it's still part of the 2012 opening.

Thats how it always has been when we rode it. The CM's always let a zillion FP riders go, and then a few standbys.

I thought Pixie Hollow got canned?

this whole thread has confused me, couldnt keep it straight so will ask here. We are going early Dec 2011, my question is will there be a Dumbo ride open ( its our sons first visit) and do you think that Main St and everything will be covered with those ugly covers still?

When we went in April 2010 the ugly covers were up on Main Street, but were down when we went in December 2010. I think they are done with whatever it was they were doing.

There is no official word on when Dumbo will close, and it's not even clear if they plan to build two entirely new Dumbo spinners or use the existing one. Since this is a very popular ride they will likely do everything they can to minimize downtime especially at the busy holiday times, but there are no gaurentees it will be open when you go.

thanks so much for the info!

Given the Princess and the Frog, and recent Tangled flops I believe Disney is missing the mark trying to incorporate more obnoxious princess themes. I just returned from the World and there was more than enough ways for young girls to get their princess fix (If I see another 5 year old with make-up and her hair done in a gown I will puke).

Hey Disney get some of your new characters involved. An Incredibles attraction, or maybe start using some of your new properties that were purchased like Marvel characters.

Even girls once they get to be a certain age they out grow the whole princess infatuation.

Pretty harsh words.

There's a lot of red tape involved in that. The company did it to bail out Marvel who were in a financial slump. Then there are the attractions at Universal Orlando.

I agree that princess and the frog was horrible, but did you try to buy tangled merchandise this christmas? based on the unavailability, I'd say tangled was NOT a flop.

I am a big fan of all things Disney so my words are not to cut but to be critical and offer alternatives. My post is not without truth however. I just see Disney kind of resting on their laurels with the whole princess motif. I love Toy Story, Incredibles, Nemo. The classics are in there too but I feel they are well represented in the parks already. Disney has started to rebrand some things Pirates being one. They could also flesh out their Star Wars agreement a little more also.

I am aware that Disney is honoring the Universal agreement but that is only for so long and will eventually run out.
