Joining in!! (better late than never!) I've had so much fun catching up. We are doing our 2nd DCL cruise this June! The first was in 2009...a 4 night on the Wonder. It rained almost the entire time! This one is a 5 night double dip on the Dream. Keeping our fingers crossed for no rain!
I love the pictures of the boys in the bubble bath. Too cute!! I'm also cringing wondering what has happened with that laptop!
Ack!!! You poor thing! All of that would have made me a complete wreck. I'm getting a little queasy just thinking about how I would have felt with the laptop and then the emergency medical visit.
Your first day defintely tops my first day. After all, we only missed lunch!
Thanks for the pic! Looks like Crazy Line #1 had already died down. I've almost reached Crazy Line #2 on my TR (ToT)...LOL, you weren't there for Crazy Line #3, which was on the boat in Cayman.
I missed #3- we just went to Sea Grape that day- but I have a pic of you in #2, too!
One thing about Diser's.... man, we know how to queue!!!
We are so sad in a way that our next cruise is not on Disney. The cameraderie that the Dis brings is so special! (As much as they may try, Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle's don't hold a candle to a Dis Meet and Disers!)
Me too! DISers all have that Disney thing that bonds them- it's excellent. I'm looking forward to our cruise this summer, but not in the same way....KWIM?
And thanks for adopting my kids!! We were being bad parents over in the corner!
I told you, I'll take Brendan & Savannah anytime- GREAT kids!!!
At least your end of the hall had it together. It was dinner before we had all of ours. Gah!
So it was YOUR hall we had to wait for....I was goin' CRAZY trying to stand still in that drill!!
I have to say you did a fantastic job putting your worry about the computer behind you and enjoying the cruise. I know it was nagging you all along, wondering would you really get it back afterwards. I would have been an absolute mess! And for sure, it did get worse....
I absolutely refused to let anything mess with the Magic....but still....my stomach was in a knot all over again just writing about it. It sucked.
Poor guy, but what a trooper, by midweek he had totally forgotten about it, right?
Yes, he did feel better after a day- but the way he was carrying on, we were so worried he was going to be in pain all night- thankfully, he never even took any medication after the first dose.
Besides, how often do you get to take a picture like this?!!!!!
Hopefully only ONCE, thank-you very much!!!
(Ron will probably add his comment on technique here, anytime he sees an xray he has to... rest assured it is coming )
I look forward to his expert opinion!
Expensive picture though I'm sure, hopefully it didn't wipe out your entire OBC, though I suspect it might have. Next time try to buy your pics in Shutters instead, hmmm! (kidding!!!!! )
I want to say the whole Private Sailaway Xray Party was about $260- not one of DCL's most popular add-ons.....
And yeah you've heard it from everyone before, but the Sailaway party on Deck 9, you've been to it before, you'll be at it again, how often do you experience Sailaway from the Medical Center?!?! Once in a lifetime experience, I tell ya! (mmmm...let's hope! Anyhoo.....)
ONE and DONE!!!!
It was a rough first day for you all!!!!
Oh crap...this post was supposed to be from me, I am on Ron's computer....sorry!!!!!
umm that sounds like a standard trip with m family...LOL I am soooo sorry that he hurt his finger. Like Jen said how often do you get to hold your finger up for a photo like that.
We headed to the Promenade Lounge for our 3pm meet. It is always so wonderful to put faces with DISsers!! I even met a couple of people who were on our last cruise that I had not met then. Jen was busy, of course, handing out her lanyards with the help of her family-
An hour later, he was feeling MUCH better, and the boys went to the Edge. And Pods & I went to the show- AND had a VERY DESERVED DOTD.
And then....it was time to get out. We all felt pretty pleased with ourselves, crammin' all that in to about an hour and a half!
The day had finally arrived!!! CRUISE DAY!!!! We were leaving that bad luck behind us at the Beach Club and we were ready to go!! But...was the bad luck really behind us for our day??
OMG! i just caught up. first the laptop, then timmy's finger
ok, well at least the laptop was located, altho the stress, the stress.....
glad his finger wasn't any worse, but that must have hurt so much!!
you have to frame that xray somehow , no??? put it next to the disney cells on the wall??? another disney memory?? maybe not, but mark my words, someday he will want to hang it on some wall, somewhere.
hope all the bad karma is behind you and smooth sailing ahead.
ps. still just love your trip reports!
i always get hungry when I read your food porn
Thank you for this wonderful adventure. I swear that when I happened on a pre-trip note on the boards and saw that you were going on this cruise, I almost cornered DH and said we've got to go too!
Then I saw that you were at WDW just before (we were there then also for a quick weekend trip to surprise DD for her birthday) and I was like a PI looking for a suspect. If I'd seen your family in those matching shirts, you would have had a tough time getting rid. It'd be like being pursued by paparazzi! Podsnel, caught at every turn! (Sorry for the mixed metaphors!)
Which is all to say, in I hope a humourous way (extra "u", I'm Canadian) that I sooo love your trip reports.
We cruise next in March. Thanks to you, the excitement is totally ramped up!
Hey Chris- I have to agree- it was just the CRAZIEST way to start the cruise!! One thing after another- it was EXHAUSTING!!! If we had not had the kids with us, I am sure we would have just bellied up to the bar and never left! But don't worry!! We ended up having a WONDERFUL time on DCL- how could we not?Oh, Ellen. That is a H.E. double hockey stick of a way to start the cruise. I can understand about being so upset about the laptop. That would be just horrible. I am always worried about leaving the laptop behind. And then, Timmy's finger. I think I just would have went to the bar and ordered the wine package and drank it all right then and there. Don't pass go. Just keep bringing it on.
I am so glad though that Timmy's finger wasn't broke or anything. That was just the icing on the cake of a great day. Hope he is getting along fine now. And that the rest of the trip isn't like that.

LMAO So a small reason we never made it down to that area???? I never knew until today where the Promenade Lounge was... go figure. We must have walked past it a million times. I always asked my self what is this place called.
I will second that... it was the first thing my wife and I did when we got on the ship!!
Wow, not a great start to vacation. I hope that was the end of your stressful days. They say bad things come in 3's -1. Late check-out - unfun limo;
2. Lost computer 3. hurt finger, which used up your onboard credit- My vote is for smooth sailing the rest of the trip
Okay, so glad to hear that the foodie you are was happy with the meal. We are sailing in April, and I am so hoping the food will still be delish! I'm curious to hear what you thought about the wines offered. Our tablemates on our last DCL had the wine package and then chose "Fine California Wines" that we can get in the grocery store here for $3.99. We couldn't burst their bubble.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO THE PODS FAMILY!!!
Playing catch up again! I either need a longer day or stop working!
Well, Karin, you are so busy updating two TRs at once, I am happy you say hello at all!! You'll be getting a break for Christmas, right?
I got tired from reading about that day! But it sounds a lot like us ...... we take it real slow the first few days, then start cramming in EVERYTHING and EVEN a little MORE into the last few!
But I am impressed ..... you really did very well there!
Well, I got tired from LIVING that day! But it was fun, and we felt like we really accomplished a LOT at the end of it.
I can't believe what all happened during that first cruise day! The ever so late arriving breakfast, bell services being late, a lost laptop, a crushed finger!
Yikes! Hope it got much better from there!
Thanks- and yes, it got much better after that.
Oh, and just one more question. Did I read that correctly, that you can leave some of your luggage at WDW while you're on a cruise, if you go there again after the cruise?
Last year we left quite a few things in the car while we were on the cruise, but we won't keep the car this summer, so the option of leaving it at the resort (as we are going back to the same one anyway) would be great! Thanks!!!
Poor Timmy Glad his finger wasn't broken and glad you located your laptop. Love the xray!
Hi Ellen, I just don't get around to comment on all my subscription (and even less to post an update on my TR...) but I wanted to say that I am still reading along and enjoying your TR very much! What a horrible day you had on that day... I hope the rest of the trip the good luck returned to your family!
Well, that's it then- you've gone and messed up the whole TR!
Tyler ordered a smoothie- the first of many, many smoothies. Too bad there's no package for THAT.
I saw Jen & family sitting a few tables behind us- they looked like they were having a great time! They also had food, which made us very jealous. But, we waited patiently-
And Timmy started to get cranky. And put his head on the table. ANd I waved down the assistant server and asked if there was a problem- no, no problem. Great- then can you please bring my son some food- because the kid has had quite a day, and he really needs some FOOD! And about 5 minutes after that, she brought out his chicken fingers-
And we looked around us and started deciding what looked good for dessert, because that's what everyone else was having-
And then the show began!
And then the dining room began to clear out- we saw Jen & Ron etal leave, along with many others behind them.
So glad this craziness is almost OVER!Okay....that seems about right today....
Thanks for all the HUGE compliments- I am so flattered, and I so get it- my favorite TR writer (when I first started DISing) was Zweihund- if I saw that she was going on a cruise, I would really try to think of ways I could get on the ship when she was! I just loved her TRs sooooooo much, they were very, VERY entertaining to me. She hasn't written one in a long time, but you should search out the old ones and check them out- hers are 10,000 times better than anything I could hunt and peck out on my laptop. Wait- scratch that! I don't want to lose my biggest fan!
I REALLY wanted to see these shows this time, and I REALLY wanted to be in them this time- of course, this time, that wasn't going to happen.
But that's fine- we had an awesome night with Jen & Ron laughing at all those people who did get picked!! I kind of thought they were already there when we arrived, but Jen's TR says they joined us, and my memory that night is somewhat clouded- it was a heck of a day at sea, sir- so whichever it was, just know that we were all very happy sitting together and had we gotten there on time we SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO would have won that MQ! It is one hilarious show!!
They had a dance off to pick the winners, and one of them was a guy named Jerry. Jen & I look at each other, and we say....JERRY? Is that OUR Jerry? Sure enough it was- Sarge219 from our Cruise meet thread. He would be the one in blue striking a pose-
Next time I think we will skip dinner just so we can get there early and throw Pods up on stage in a lacy bra and heels- and I'll be sure to bring my tripod and video for THAT display!
Next was Match Your Mate- unfortunately, Pods & I have been married too long or not enough for that game- we got laughed at for trying to be the older married couple at almost 25 years. Anyway, that was pretty amusing- the couple who won I thought was very entertaining, and I kept running into them in port during the week. Funny, funny stuff!
When it was over, we decided we needed to say goodnight- it had been a really long day. But first, apparently I had a love fest with Jen in the hallway-
Oh, I wish I was an Oscar Meyer Weiner....was it already Halloween?
