Two Sisters finally get to go to WDW together! - TR has started!

Since Katharina posted about a bag, I think I need to tell you a bit about my bags I will take with me. I find it very difficult to decide and will actually bring a number of bags (does that sound familiar to anyone, I guess I have not become that much better with deciding after all! :lmao:). Also I really like to change around, I found that this prevents my back from aching which it tends to do if I carry one bag for many days all day long. :sad2:

First, my big back pack as my piece of hand luggage for the plane. It is a Deuter Futura 22, the best back pack ever invented. It is actually the one I use as a day pack for hiking, it is wonderful to carry and it gives your back a lot of air because it has a special system in the back. It will hold all the essentials I need to take on the plane with me as well as a change of clothing and my PJs. I once had a bag arriving 24 hours later than me for my vacation and since then I have always be prepared!

DSC06011.jpg

But this will mainly be for travelling and maybe for going to the water park. I have taken the Deuter to the parks if I feel that the other bags give my back a hard time. This bag doesn't at all. :thumbsup2

I will also have my everyday purse, a Mandarina Duck MD20 shoulder bag in black. It is rather small (about 20x20 cm or for Americans: 8x8 inches). It will be disneyfied by my Minnie pin! ::MinnieMo

DSC06004.jpg

This will also come on the plane with me (it can easily fit into the backpack to make it into one piece of luggage and will hold all valuables, so I can keep it under my seat while the backpack can go in the overhead bin), but it is also a great size for taking everything I need for the parks with me and I really love this bag. :lovestruc I have it in red as well (might actually take the red one...) and in a bit bigger in green, still wanting to get one in blue as well... And it will go with any nicer outfits to be worn to our signature restaurant dinners.

Then I will take my North Face Pandora back pack.

DSC06013.jpg

This is really a tiny backpack, it fits a large book easily, but not a magazine. A thin sweater can go in it, but not a fleece. It has lots of different compartments, especially one which is great to store fastpasses! I think this will be rope drop mornings bag as it has been on a number of previous trips!

And the finally I need to take one these two in order to prevent myself from buying a third one  :

DSC06015.jpg

The tote is great to take my refillable mug and a book to the pool! I think I will take the blue one, but the final decision will be taken when I am packing and I have an overview of the cloths I am taking so I can take the one that coordinates better.

The Pandora backpack and the tote are quite flat, so they will not add a lot of volume to my suitcase. :thumbsup2

Since I mentioned cloths already, let's continue there: Nodnol at one point informed me that she needed to get Disney T-Shirts for the trip. I thought that was a great idea and we did some research and found a few possibilities here in Germany. But when we were ready to order a Google search turned up Zazzle which is now also available in German. There even was a discount for free shipping to Germany and they claimed that all customs and taxes were already included in the price (the last bit turned out not to be true, I had to pay taxes in order to get the parcel from the post office, still trying to figure out what happened :headache:).

Since the T-Shirts were rather reasonably prized we ended up getting two each. Mine are these tow:

DSC05990.jpg

And Katharina got:

DSC05993.jpg

I have been told that we will take care that we don't wear them so that someone might think that we are wearing matching t-shirts! :rolleyes1

And the final thing to post: I bought new running shoes this last Saturday:

DSC05998.jpg

They are PTR related because these will be my main park shoes. I know that I am not supposed to use my running shoes for anything else, but they are the best thing to wear in the parks in my opinion. They are Asics Gel Kayano and I took them out for a run on the threadmill yesterday: It was like running on clouds. :cloud9: I absolutely adore these new shoes!

I will have other shoes as well, my Teva sandals, the Teva Mush flip flops, possibly the Keens trainers (even though I am not so sure about them). I still would like a pair of nice comfortable shoes for the evenings when we go to our signature dinners. But I should not complain, my shoe plan is much more precise already than Katharina's. She added to our To-Do-List: “Resolve Katharina's shoe situation”.

Thank you for such a wonderful trip to DLP. :goodvibes
It has been fun going back in time with you on your other holidays! :thumbsup2
I have often heard that some of the rides are much more "exciting!" for thrill seekers. (thats's me;))
The Haunted Mansion aka Phantom Manor does look creepy ::yes::
Dornroschen hee hee...I like the translation :thumbsup2

Tracy

Hi Tracy, it is actually a lot of fun to write up these old stories and look at the pictures! And it is great that there are people here who appreciate it!

DLP is definitely more about thrills than the MK. :thumbsup2 But it also has very quaint attractions. E.g. there are lots of walk through attractions which are to me pretty boring...

After having been to DL where the Haunted Mansion fits so well into New Orleans Square, we really did not approve of Phantom Manor and its location at first. But it really has grown on me and I think now that it is a great fit. Also knowing that the Haunted Mansion is in a different land in WDW as well has helped! :thumbsup2

:woohoo: great bag update! :lmao: I like your MD black bag....it looks like a very tightly woven canvas? Great for durability...I do the same if I like something...I end up with the same item in several colors. ;) The Deuter looks the easiest to carry....depending on what you are taking and buying ;)

Cute t shirts...Poor Wall-E...he is so underrated! :sad2:

Tracy

Finally all caught up - I loved seeing the pictures from Christmas in Germany. I have two friends that just arrived home yesterday after being in Germany since the middle of December. One of my friends is from Germany and they went to see her family. They uploaded a bunch of pictures during the trip and it was great to see all the traditions and the Christmas Markets.

Thanks for the DL and your first DLP pictures as well. The Sleeping Beauty Castle in Germany looks way better than the one in California...would you agree?

The trip is getting so close now...hope you ladies (and your families) have a wonderful 2010.

Sigh. Someday I'll get to Disneyland Paris. It looks so beautiful!

I love Asics too! I just ordered a new pair, I think my older ones are losing their support. :headache:

I love all of your bags, they all seem to have great features!

Wow...those pictures are so pretty...and I'm going to get to see DLP myself in not too long...:goodvibes...very excited...

(I read your PM about your opinions on the parks...and what you would and wouldn't do with just a day...:thumbsup2 (I'm going to post parts of it on my PTR...) I also just ordered my DLP guide...(I thought I should have one of those as well and it'll be a good souvenir...

That large hotel at the beginning...is that the one you mentioned taking a break and having a drink in?

I think we will definitely do counter service for lunch...we have so much to try to do in one day...I don't think we have the time for a sit down lunch and I know we'll be doing that everyday in Paris...-do you have any counter service you prefer?

The castle is absolutely lovely...it may be the prettiest...I'll have to see...(It looks like a miniature Loire Chateau...

Fantasyland is so pretty too...:goodvibes

I am very anxious to see the arcades behind the stores...I'm sure they made that concession to the weather...not sunny, warm Florida all year long...

I think that your tee shirts are very cute and I'm glad that you are taking the shoe situation so seriously...:thumbsup2

Now I need to find non sneaker comfortable shoes to wear in Paris/DLP...I'm not so sure the sneaker look is as in there as it is in America and some other parts of Europe...:confused3 I think I'd be happier with a pair of Clarks or something similar...

Loving the memories...:goodvibes

Tracy

The MD black is really great - it is some nylon canvas, very durable, but unfortunately a bit prone to collect dirt in the lighter colours. However, soap and a brush did work pretty well! :)

The Deuter is really a fantastic bag. Katharina has the same and for both of us it is the second Deuter after having worn down our first ones. But normally I don't really need such a large bag in the parks - I am a huge fan of getting my shopping deliverd to the resort! ;)

I know what you mean about Wall-E! Why is it that the Pixar characters I love most aren't that popular? Remy at Chefs de France is ok, but I want to meet the huge plush character that Katharina got to meet in Paris (see first post). This was even before Ratatouille was released in Germany, so we did not really know him yet!

Great to see you back on the boards!! I hope your friends had a good time in Germany! :thumbsup2 The Christmas Markets are a really nice tradition, I love the, too! I have some from Nuremberg which I will post soon!

Sigh. Someday I'll get to Disneyland Paris. It looks so beautiful!

I love all of your bags, they all seem to have great features!

I hope you will manage to come to Europe and get to see DLP. I have read recently, that after their troubles in the 1990s, the last decade has been better for the park and it is improving again. It was most definitely built as the most beautiful park of them all.

After I got them I read that Asics is really good for people with small heels but wide feet. That's exactly my feet. Very often my foot is squeezed together slightly and while for normal wear that isn't too bad, for running or long walking that just creates problems!

I think getting guidebooks is a very good idea! I always get several for any trip I go on. :thumbsup2 Which one did you get. I think there is going to be a new Unofficial Guide to Disneyland Paris coming out at some point and I really want to get that. You are really lucky that you get to see it so soon. Writing about it made me really want to return there again. :goodvibes

Have you ventured to the DLP boards here on the DIS yet? There are some realy nice and helpful regulars. I posted there quite a bit for our 2007 trip.

That large hotel at the beginning...is that the one you mentioned taking a break and having a drink in?

That's it! Doesn't it look quite a bit like the GF? But I think it looks more whimsical and a bit less grand because it is so pink. Unfortunately the rooms are ridicously expensive there. :sad2:

I think we will definitely do counter service for lunch...we have so much to try to do in one day...I don't think we have the time for a sit down lunch and I know we'll be doing that everyday in Paris...-do you have any counter service you prefer?

Our favourite CS sells ribs in Frontierland. If you are used to American BBQ, you ought to avoid, we go there mostly for the novelty and the nice outdoor seating (most likely not so nice in March). The CS food was in general ok, but not great and not very French I think. Colonel Hati's Pizza Outpost is a beautiful spot and the Bakery on Main Street has French sandwiches.

The castle is absolutely lovely...it may be the prettiest...I'll have to see...(It looks like a miniature Loire Chateau...

I read that Disney really wanted the castle to be spectacular. If you want to wow people who see castles on an everyday basis, you need to offer something really special. Therefore the castle is actually a real building with real stones, no fiberglas there. Also they hired real craftsmen to do all the decorating.

I am very anxious to see the arcades behind the stores...I'm sure they made that concession to the weather...not sunny, warm Florida all year long...

Actually those arcades were at one point proposed as an addition to DL in California. They were supposed to help with crowd control. They were never realized there, but when they built DLP, they recycled that idea. Pretty smart, isn't it? :thumbsup2

I think that your tee shirts are very cute and I'm glad that you are taking the shoe situation so seriously...:thumbsup2

I really like the t-shirts. And we are lucky that they fit. At least mine do, nodnol hasn't yet tried hers. I am always a bit concerned when I order clothes.

Now I need to find non sneaker comfortable shoes to wear in Paris/DLP...I'm not so sure the sneaker look is as in there as it is in America and some other parts of Europe...:confused3 I think I'd be happier with a pair of Clarks or something similar...

For DLP sneakers will be absolutely fine! For Paris: something less obvious might look a bit less American. Many Europeans wear hiking shoes for city trips. You wouls still look touristy, but since they aren't white, less obviously American! ;) And they are good shoes for walking. Clarks would be great, too. Or if you want to be very European, get a pair of Campers like these: http://www.amazon.de/Camper-Pelotas...r_1_44?ie=UTF8&s=shoes&qid=1262698186&sr=1-44 (but they are very expensive and personally, I don't like their look).

Loving the memories...:goodvibes

Me too! :goodvibes

Your pics of DLP are just gorgeous. One of these days I'll make it to Europe again. So pretty!

I love the black bag with the Minnie ears on it. Perfect little bag to carry around the parks.

I hope you will be able to come back to Europe, you will find that quite a bit has changed! :goodvibes

I love the Minnie pin, it is my favourite pin! I have a few and love the all, but don't bring them to the parks any more. After I lost one I don't want to take chances anymore. :confused3

Even more updates coming!

First, Nodnol and I finally did some ADR tweaking! You will be impressed that we finally found something to change: We gave up our 7pm ADR on 2/2 at Artist Point and replace it with an ADR at Artist Point at 7:45 pm! :rotfl: Huge change there! The idea behind this is that we will be at DHS that day and now we can stay until the park closes before hopping on a bus to WL. :goodvibes

Next point: photopass. Good news here. Remember when I posted about the discount for pre-ordering going away? Well, my TA was able to get me a discount code from Photopass which we can apply when we order the CD and which will save us 50 $. So it will be the same as pre-ordering. But we still are free to not order the CD if the pics don't turn out well or so. I am really happy about it!:cool1::woohoo: Nodnol is a bit scared that we now have to stop for every photographer (btw took me ages to figure out the abbreviation of photog - I always thought it would have something to do with a hog... :sad2:). I told Nodnol that we won't do that - we will only stop for every second photographer!!

Big issue: Packing!! I am not going to pack things way before the trip! But I started a paper bag in which things get collected. So I thought I'd post a few pictures of that just for the fun of it:

That's the bag:

DSC06016.jpg

The next two pictures are the contents of the bag, starting with 10 rain ponchos.

DSC06018.jpg

These will be used for Kali River Rapids :woohoo:, but unfortunately not for Splash Mountain since it is closed... :headache: I really hope that we will not have to use them for rainy weather!! So I won't mind if we do bring most of them back home! :thumbsup2

The next pic is much more interesting :goodvibes

DSC06017.jpg

Several bottles of sunscreen - I am determined to take the old ones. They still are within there use before dates, so they should be ok. Otherwise I will just pick some up at Disney. I actually like the Banana Boat brand. Then there is some anti-mosquito stuff. Even though I never needed it in winter in Florida, I thought it might be a good idea to take it with me. Small travel bottles of shampoo and conditioner (sulfate and silicon free - difficult to get in travel size) for the hand luggage in case the suitcase gets delayed. Facial make-up removing wipes to avoid having to take a bottle. Our Sporks, the notebook Nodnol gave me, a book and my pin. :goodvibes

Don't worry, I also have a very detailed list which I browse regularly. I think I will print it out that weekend so I can overview it's status and make sure that clothes are clean etc.! :thumbsup2

And then finally: the new campain Give a Day Get a Day (also known as GADGAD or short only GAD) caused some new fun. Go here and have some fun. If you click on the link a few times, new things will show up!! :goodvibes

YAY for getting the photopass discount (without having to pre-pay! :thumbsup2)

Love that GADGAD link!! So cute! :goodvibes

I've been reading along, just don't get the chance to post much! :flower3:

Hope to see you & Katharina real soon! :yay:

Great to see you back on the boards!! I hope your friends had a good time in Germany! :thumbsup2 The Christmas Markets are a really nice tradition, I love the, too! I have some from Nuremberg which I will post soon!

They had a great time...and Nuremberg (I'm 99.9% sure) is where they spent most of the break as that is where my friend Sabine's parents and family live.

After I got them I read that Asics is really good for people with small heels but wide feet. That's exactly my feet. Very often my foot is squeezed together slightly and while for normal wear that isn't too bad, for running or long walking that just creates problems!

I forgot to add yesterday that I LOVE my Asics. Those or Mizuno's are the only gym shoes I wear. And I'm rarely not in my gym shoes (yes, sometime my job is really nice!)

And :banana::banana: for the photopass discount!

All caught up again - so much to comment on, I'm sure I'll forget something! :goodvibes

I think it's very neat that your family does the real candles on your Christmas tree! I bet it's even more beautiful when it's lit.

Way to go on cooking your first turkey! It's not too bad of a job, but the first one is always intimidating. Very interesting about the little house to cook the goose in! Is it used for anything else?

Love, love, love your DLP pictures and info. You have me wanting to go there even more now!! :rotfl: I know it will be a long while before I do get to go, but someday!!! :goodvibes

I saw your note on the sulfate and silicone free shampoo/conditioner. How is the "no cones" routine working for you? I'm growing my hair back out, so soon I will need to switch to sulfate/cone free/no shampoo as well!

I forgot to add that a thank you for the link! Such a cute and clever website! Gotta love the Muppets. :goodvibes

Loved your latest updates!! DLP looks like so much fun and I can't tell you how badly I want to ride Phantom Manor...that one sounds like the epitome of Disney Haunted Mansions LOL!!!!

I too have a pair of Asaics and I love them...best shoes ever!!

Love your ADR switch and the ponchos...I won't be doing either Kali or Splash...because I don't do wet in the cold and to me it will be cold in January LOL!

Welcome back, I loved following your trip on Facebook!

Katharina's DH tried to take pictures of the tree when it was lit, but they turned out way too dark. But now they got a wonderful new digital SLR, so perhaps in the future he will manage to get better pics! :goodvibes

The turkey was a lot of fun, but really it was way too much food for five and my parents ended up eating turkey for a full week afterwards... :rolleyes1 Katharina really should tell you more about the little baking house (and I think she is planning on doing that! :goodvibes)

I am sure you will get a trip to Europe and see DLP some time in the future. It really isn't as difficult as it might appear! The main problem is airfare and one day the exchange rate will become much better for the dollar again, I am sure. So then Europe will end up being pretty affordable!

I am still doing no cones. I have my hair much shorter at the moment and found out that I need to use shampoo again, but I am still not using any sulfates. I really like my hair at the moment! Since it is shorter I stopped plopping, but I am still using gel instead of the foam I had before and the curls hold up much better during the day. Of course at the moment wearing hats doesn't really make my hair look great... :rolleyes1 I am still hoping to convert nodnol, though!

I forgot to add that a thank you for the link! Such a cute and clever website! Gotta love the Muppets. :goodvibes

You're welcome, I had a lot of fun with it as well!

I was thinking of you when I wrote about Phantom Manor! It is quite a bit different from the Americans, not only because the ghost host speaks french. It has different story to it and it seems less fun... Sorry I can't really describe it that well.

The ADR switch really isn't much, but I was still quite pleased with it. It just makes much more sense.

Just a small update today:

Nodnol and I decided that it would be worth it to get US SIM cards for our mobile phones! And they arrived a few days ago:

DSC06023.jpg

While we can use our German mobile phones in the US we are paying a lot if we make a call: more than 2 dollars per minute! :scared1: even receiving a call is one dollar per minute and sending a text is 60 cents. So it really is something which is only used for emergencies!!

After some research I found someone who sells US SIM cards from a US provider (it's called tuyo and uses the T-mobile network, which is kind of funny since be both are with T-Mobile here in Germany, too, and T-mobile is really a German company!). So we can just put these SIM cards in our phones and then pay much less per minute. :thumbsup2 It will be 10 cent per minute on receiving calls and making calls within the US and 12 cents per minute on calls to Germany that really makes much more sense! The great thing is that if we want to separate for a short time, we now have the possibility to get in touch with each other easily!

I found it quite interesting when I was researching the topic that most US phones appear to work without SIM cards, the info on the chip is programmed into the phones directly. Here in Europe you will always get the SIM chip from your provider and just put it in your phone.

Now we need to activate these SIMs and it seems that we can choose which area code we want to have for our mobile phones. I was thinking of getting 407 as this is area we will be in. Does anyone have any advise on this??? You all know much more on American area codes than we do!! So any help would be appreciated!!

I don't think it would really matter what area code you choose but I don't really know for sure. I think it's neat that you can do that though and save yourself some money! :thumbsup2

YAY for getting SIM cards....2.00 a minute that is ridiculous...OUCH!! Glad you found a much cheaper alternative!

Congrats on getting the discount on Photo Pass...I think that stopping for every second photographer is a really nice compromise...;)

I'm not sure you have enough rain ponchos...I think you may need a few more...:lmao:
