The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

That is really cool! I wish you luck keeping the trip a surprise. Becky suggested doing that once, but I know I could never do it, and she couldn't either. She would explode. She used to buy the kids two sets of Christmas presents because she couldn't wait until Christmas. Her DH put his foot down on that one.

Now that sounds like quite a deal! :lmao:

Gretchen- I'm sorry your having such a hard time. I really wasn't planning on this being a "first" thanksgiving and I'd really like to just cancel it. I'm going to rearrange the seating that I usually use though so everyones in a different spot. I don't think I could handle looking at my gram's empty seat.

I'm so sorry about your grandmother. We aren't doing exactly the same thing we do either, so I hope it helps for you to rearrange the seating.

By the way, there is major (public) drama going on around here again. Monday it will hit the fan and there is nothing we can do about it. I wish I could give more details but I don't know who is reading. It's all about politics and money but is causing many of us a lot of stress and time. If you would just remember us I'd appreciate it.

I'm so sorry Aimee. You really don't need any stress.

Still playing catch-up. I'm like, six pages behind. Its been busy at work - cutting into my dis time :lmao:.

:rotfl: I hate when that happens. :rotfl:

I just put the tenderloin in the oven with some potato wedges. Not too fancy, but it's dinner.

OKWMom - You're not in the path of Ida the Morphed Beast, are you? They are saying 10+ inches of rain for parts of the east coast! Stay safe if you are, okay?

Just wanted to drop in and say HI!!! I have to get these kiddos to bed.

I just wanted to share a proud Mom day. DS has mastered his ABCs and he learned to spell our last name. For those of you who don't know our last name it is not an easy one to spell (all 11 letters worth). My DS(3) was teaching my Dad today how to spell our last name it was precious, because DF still has a problem with it.:lmao:

Lunch at my DP's was greek salads, veal parm sandwiches and roasted peppers. DB brought some pumpkin whoopie pies for dessert.

Dinner was grilled honey mustard chicken breast, julienned candied carrots, and buttercup squash. Veggies were so good, and worth the trip to the farm stand today.

Hope to catch up with you all in the am...sending love and prayers, especially for Robin , Gretchen & Aimee!

Hey friends....so sorry I went MIA for a few days:headache: I seem to have less then 24hrs in my day:confused3. I am going to do my best to catch up, but early apologies in case I miss someone!

Glynis--Thank you for letting us know about Lindsay, I thought I saw something posted on her FB.
I can't get over that Timothy is walking, where has the time gone?!!?
I hope you were able to get Katie's schedule worked out, our school has the same issues. Ross doesn't take band, but some of his friends do, and it interferes with French class and at the highschool with the advanced classes.

Lauren--Glad you had such a nice time on your family Disney vacation. Sorry Tom is not feeling well, how did he do with his drive back to PA? I saw your pics on FB and loved them!!

Kathy--Glad you had a nice weekend with Kyle!! Hope you are feeling better this evening.

Ellen--I am sure Ethan will be so excited to have Dad home, and I am sure he will have some sadness on his having to leave again, but like someone mentioned maybe he will be a bit better with understanding he will be back. It must be such a helpless feeling trying to help a little one understand.

Gretchen--We all understand how you are feeling my friend. We are here for you always, just like you have been for all of us at one point or another!

Sheryl--Let me just say YUMMY!!

Robin--I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your grandmother. How did your daughter do with this news?

Nancy--I love the Buddy bath stories, lol. Reminds me of the "olden" days when a man boiled water when a women went into labor, lol:lmao:.
I got such a visual on Kady being Princess Pancake this morning, :goodvibes

Aimee--Kris has Crohns and he suffered just awful for years until he had 1.5 feet of his small intestine removed about 18yrs ago, and has had hardly any issues since then, some minor discomfort maybe 2x a year, and has not been on any meds since. Just wanted to give you our story on it.

Has Janice been on today?

Phew--I think I caught up with just about everyone!! :yay:
Sorry if I missed you, I tried!!

Last night we went to get Ross some school clothes, we don't really get much at the beginning of the year as he wears shorts as long as possible and if I buy in Sept they won't fit in Nov. He has grown 3" in the past month!!:scared1: So we went to our "biggest" city in Maine that has a mall at it about 2hrs away. Before we went to the mall we went out to eat at Fugi a hibachi place, we had never been, and had such a great time, so much fun.
They had this thing at the mall called Eurobungy a trampoline with bungy cords that you can jump 30' in the air and do flips etc. Ross had a blast on this. It was fun to watch, but I wouldn't want to do it, lol.
We stopped at LLBean on the way home(they are open24/7 365) and got his winter gear etc. Home around midnight, it was a fun weeknight adventure that we could get away with as there was no school today.

Ross and I went nowhere today, I cleaned and he studied for some tests he has tomorrow and played on our laptops, lol. (I did dust the house as well)
Ross had a grappling tournament this past Sunday and he placed third in his division.

Hmmm I am sure there was more I wanted to say(there always is :lmao:) as usual I have jibber jabbered enough.

Hope everyone has had a nice Veteran's Day!! Thank you to all of our WFD families who have sacrificed for our freedom.

WFD--(not very healthy or exciting, but did the trick, lol) pigs in a blanket, mac and cheese and corn.

Ann--MMMM your supper sounds yummy. How did you cook the honey mustard chicken?
Awww so proud of your little guy!! :)

Hmm has Maria been around today?

WOW! I am super impressed with that last name, it's as bad as mine!:lmao: Great job Luke!:thumbsup2

Wendie, Maria pm'd me earlier so I know she has been around. All seemed fine with her.

Chicken was tastey but simple. Grilled my breast on the BBQ with s&p, then near the end I basted them with some honey mustard dressing that I fixed up with some extra honey. DH even commented how he enjoyed dinner. :goodvibes

My girl is crying, night all

Here's pics of what I made today. The chicken recipe. It was so dark...the lighting looks so 1970s!!:

Butternut squash...my Dad asked me to make this last minute, so it's not as carmelized as I usually would make it:

Mustard roasted potatoes for my brother:

I ate none of that. Here's my bowl of mushroom soup:

Aimee - My 2 cents for what its worth. Go see a surgeon, if only for a second opinion. Depending on the damage, it may be better to get it removed now, than wait for something bad to happen. My Dad had Chron's, was diagnosed very late in life and had his intestine rupture. He never really recovered after that.
 for your upcoming public drama.

That's a good thought. My GI's surgeon of choice actually stepped into my scope a few months ago to see the damage for himself but since I haven't seen my GI after that day, I didn't get a full picture of where he thought I was at (the surgeon, that is). I have met with him, a couple years ago before I tried Humira, but since it worked I never met with him again.

Maybe I do need to see the GI and see what he and the surgeon think.

I didn't remember that he had it as well... my GI told me I may reach remission after surgery, but most patients "relapse" within 3 years so he would strongly advocate a maintenance drug even after surgery. Interesting Kris doesn't have to be on anything right now!!!

He also told me pregnancy would likely put me in remission *sigh*

I left work at 930pm, and have to be back at 730am tomorrow for a conference call. I hope the conference is something that I can minimize and do other things at the same time because it's 3+ hours long  Work just has me very overwhelmed right now.

I ate a bagel when I got in tonight.

Good morning! I thought I checked in yesterday sorry.

My computer at work is not being helpful to DIS at work. We are waiting none to patiently for the computer genius to FIX it :rolleyes1. Have I ever mentioned how much I love waiting? :upsidedow

This week so far has been crazy. Two more people dropped from the virus that is making the rounds. Oh and "let me breath in your face" is getting sick too but she is still in your face. pirate:

Tonight will be hamburgers since it is library night.

Does anyone watch The Good Wife? I just love that show.

Thanks for the "Welcome Back" s

We have had a lot going on lately- I had surgery 2 weeks ago tomorrow for a torn meniscus- I am recuperating wonderfully! I have another surgery on the horizon 12/09/09 for a TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT!!! And yes, I am WAY too young for that...;) I am no longer working- miss the paycheck but LOVE the schedule. :thumbsup2

I think my son has swine flu- think anyone would get the joke if I served ham tonight?:lmao: We are headed to the doctor at 10:45.

In REALITY we had "Thanksgiving" last night (roast chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, peas, cranberry sauce and crescent rolls) so we will have leftovers tonight. Jack will have his in a chicken quesadilla I'm sure- my husband too most likely and I'll have a hot chicken sandwich. With him so sick I'm glad I had planned for a leftover night!

It was 20* at my house this morning... brrrrrrrrrrr but our pellet stove is cranking out the heat. The only thing I don't like about it is carrying in the bags.... but it beats paying the oil bill any day of the week!

I just wanted to share a proud Mom day.

What an accomplishment for a little boy! Proud Mom indeed :thumbsup2
I have a recipe for gingerbread whoopie pies with lemon creme that I have been wanting to try. Maybe Sunday!

No apologies necessary! When did Ross get so big? I remember seeing pics of him and of Andrew and they were "kids". Now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was one of those Bungy things at our fireman's carnival. Kady went on the crazy trampoline and had a ball! It was funny, her little friend usually is more adventurous than she is but not this time. Kady kept up with teh big kids. No way I would have gotten on that thing!

Holy cow! You have a lot going on! Good luck with the surgery! You'll be in my prayers.

Sorry about your son! Hopefully, if it is swine flu, it will be relatively easy to deal with, and the rest of you won't get it.

It's cold here, too, but I don't know how cold. The wind is really kicking up, which means I'm going to end up with my neighbors leaves all over my freshly raked yard! Grrr!

If they are any good, please post the recipe! I love gingerbread!!! I make a gingerbread trifle for Christmas dinner that is amazing!

Dinner last night was good but way too rich for us!

I will share the recipe but how I would make it if I ever have it again, Welby followed Nora's recipe to the T. She said she does nto make it often adn I can see why. It was a heart attack!

Chicken breast
Italian flavored bread crumbs
egg for an egg wash
butter and margarine for frying the chicken bread in a pan
American cheese
chopped onion garlic and sliced mushrooms sauteed in butter, chives added to the hot vegetables

I woulds butter fly the chicken breast or pound them. Dip is egg wash and then bread crumbs. Cook in a combination of butter and margarine until almost done. Turn when side one is nice and brown.

In the meantime saute the sliced fresh mushroom, chopped onions and plenty of garlic in butter. Set aside

Transfer the cooked chicken onto a baking sheet, mound some veggies in top of chicken, top with a slice of American cheese and broil until the cheese is melted.

Top the chicken with any remaining butter and vegetables and fresh chopped chives.

We served it with baked potatoes but I would turn the extra butter adn veggies into a nice garlic sauce and serve over Angel Hair.

I am still full from all the butter that was in the original dish, the veggies were cooked until translucent in a lot of butter. I mean a lot! I went through 6 sticks of butter and 2 sticks of margarine. Holy Clogged Arteries!

Tonight we are taking the girls to see Miley Cyrus. It is going to be crazy! Kady's BFF's Mom had a nightmare about the ride into Hartford and it has had her very jumpy. She will meet us for dinner before the show, I hope that settles her down. I wish I could turn my ticket over to her, she got really freaked out! But I have to be present at the gate with my license and CC. That is the ticket. I am not willing to brave the traffic in and then out, Hartford is not my favorite place to drive. I may ask Daniel if he would mind driving around and picking me up if Marisa wants me to try that.

If they are any good, please post the recipe! I love gingerbread!!! I make a gingerbread trifle for Christmas dinner that is amazing!

I will! I think I will make them next week, Marisa and I are heading Downstate to meet Maria on Sunday! :yay::yay::yay: I have totally gotten my days all mixed up!
