Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

After 5 phone calls, I finally called ME direct and hopefully will have my packet in the next day or so. I still have not rec'd my MYW packet with my confirmations and WDW luggage tags. I have talked to several CMs and they can't seem to tell me why...nor are they willing to re-send it. I was told, if I do not receive the MYW by mail, I would receive it at the check-in desk. I'm not happy about this, but I'm tired of calling long distance and being told the same thing, over and over.

I am going to be at Disney the same time as you. I did recieve my ME info but did not get my room info. I have read of several other occurances of people not getting their info sent to them as well. My opinion is there must have been some type of glitch.

I called reservation and was put on hold so she could talk to the documents dept. She told me they said the room paperwork showed it was sent out 45 days in advance. I never got it so she said they were sending it out again and I should get it in 2 weeks. I am not holding my breath but if it does come it will be two days before we leave. Honestly, with the way thing are going I doubt they would have it at the front desk for me either and I am expecting to get the run around there too.

As long as your mom is on your room reservation it should be fine. There should be a voucher with her name on it though. Everyone that is named on the resort reservation, should be named on the DME vouchers.
But, I'm not sure of what her situation is....she seems to be leaving WDW before you, which will have no bearing on the DME voucher. I'm just not sure what you mean when you say 'come after us'.

Thanks! We arrive on Oct 22 and are staying offsite for a couple days and then checking in to CSR on the 26th which is when she is arriving. I will call and ask for vouchers with her name on it and not stress out if I don't get them. We can always go pick her up if she has issues.

Strictly speaking, a voucher isn't required. As long as a DME reservation exists in the DME database, and as long as you have photo ID that matches your face with that name, you are fine.

For instance, people who end up never receiving their DME paperwork have no trouble using DME.

I'm just over 3 weeks out now and still haven't gotten the ME packet. I want to call ME directly, but don't know the number, any help?

I'll call after 1pm today, should give UPS & USPS today as well to make it here (I work from home...c'mon Mickey Mail...)

ME Phone # is 1-866-599-0951

Thank you wezee!

Edit: I just called...apparently our ME was never reserved, even though I did our reservation on the phone and did it wayyy back then. I've seen a lot of posts lately about people not getting their documents, I wonder if there was an upgrade in the system and some folks info got lost. Luckily I got a really helpful CM (his name was Joe) and he got us squared away. Thanks again Wezee for posting that number!

We are leaving on Friday and using ME. We have just decided to take along a 3rd bag, however we only have 2 tags and its now too late to get another one. We really don't want to wait for our luggage at the airport, can ME still get thebag with no tag? Any recommendations on which bag not to tag? We have a large suitcase, a medium suitcase and a garment bag case.

Thanks

You should have no problem at all. It won't matter which bag you leave untagged.

When you check-in at the DME counter at the airport, they'll ask how many bags you checked with DME tags. Tell them you tagged 2 but have a third one untagged. When you checked your bags at your home airport, you got receipts for each of your 3 bags. Make sure you know which receipt is for the bag that doesn't have the DME tag on it. At the DME counter, they'll ask for the baggage claim tickedt number for the untagged bag, as well as a physical description of that bag. A cast member will claim that untagged bag for you, will take the bag back behind-the-scenes in the airport, will print a DME tag for it (on white paper instead of yellow), and then will place that bag with the other bags headed for the DME luggage sorting facility on the grounds of the airport.

Don't be surprised if that untagged bag takes a little longer to get to your room ... that is, don't be concerned if the other 2 arrive without that 3rd one.

I would also appreciate some clarification on this if possible. I will be in Orlando already on the day my Disney pkg reservation starts to check in but my 2 teenagers (over 18) will be flying in separately on the 2nd day of our reservation. We are all on the pkg with ME (we will all go home together using ME) and I just want to make sure they will be able to utilize the service even though I am already there and checked in?

Yes, they'll be able to use DME just fine.

Every individual named on a Disney resort reservation is entitled to the full DME treatment ... it makes no difference if an individual is traveling on a different day than others on the same reservation.

Just make sure that your teenagers are not only on the resort reservation, but also have DME reservations.

My strong advice to you is to wait until you are just inside of 60 days from your trip, and then call DME directly at 866-599-0951. Explain to the DME CM that your kids are traveling the day after you arrive, and the CM will make sure everything is correct in the computer database.

The reason I say to wait until you're less than 60 days from your trip is that DME is a function of resort reservations, and DME doesn't receive resort reservation info until 60 days from arrival. If you call before the 60 day mark, DME won't know who you are and won't be able to access your resort reservation, and thus they won't be able to make or modify a DME reservation for you.

And I suggest NOT calling the main Disney number (407-W-DISNEY) because the CMs who work those phone lines barely know how to spell "DME" much less know the ins-and-outs of it. It's quite possible that if you call the main Disney number with your situation, you'll be (incorrectly) told that your kids can't use DME because they're arriving a day after you are arriving.

Thank you so much for this info CleveRocks. I was really worried about this one thing and now I can relax and start planning. I'm sure many folks have said this but thanks for taking the time to share your VAST knowledge!

How long before the trip does the DME transportation book arrive?
As early as about 6 weeks before, as late as about 2 weeks before. If you haven't received it by about 2 weeks before, call DME directly at 866-599-0951 and ask about it, as well as to confirm that you do, in fact, have a DME reservation.

Has something changed with the luggage tags recently? We received our booklet the other day, and there only appears to be one luggage tag for each person.

There's a perferation in the middle -- do you tear them in half now? I doubt that, but I can't figure out why there wouldn't there be the normal two tags per person?

Maybe just a glitch with this package?

Yep same thing happened to me. got 1 luggage tag per person and we check 2 each so need 2 more whats up with that but we leave next Tues...haven't called yet since I are having health problems and still might have to cancel.

I just wanted to state that after you make your reservations to call DME and make sure that they have your ressie. I am 2 weeks out today and still hadn't recieved my booklet so I called and sure enough no ressie.

I booked online so there must be an issue with the online system. Is there someone that can be notified of this problem?

When the airlines started charging for checked bags, DME decreased the number of yellow tags they send out. They figured that most people would only check one bag per person. If more are needed, you can call them to get more sent out.

It is always a good idea to give DME a call if you haven't received anything a month out from your departure. They are supposed to get the packets out 4-5 weeks before hand. You can get away without the packet, but you can't get away with no reservation.

granmanh603...hope your health issues resolve soon and you are able to go on your trip!!

Thank you,MRI and PET scan came back clear so that is great but I am waiting to hear from Dana Farber surgeon to see when she is going to do additional surgery and have been waiting and calling for 2 weeks??? I don't want to cancel BWV til the last minute in case I can get away for a little while first ,was hoping it could be done before we go but guess that's not going to happen. Thank you.:goodvibes

A lot of great info. here. Maybe something close to this question has been raised, but here I go. In Jan., my wife and I will be visiting OKW and will be taking DME for the first time (rental cars too high). Please excuse these requests:
1) Do we pick up our baggage as usual at MCO and proceed to the DME area?
2) We would like to return to MCO to pick up a car for the second leg of our trip. Can we take DME back to MCO and do we have to leave the bus at the departure area or can we stay on the bus to the arrival area? If we must get off at the departure area, can we travel through MCO to the arrival/baggage area without going through security.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

1.If you use the yellow luggage tags, that are included in your DME packet, for your checked luggage, you won't be able to claim your own checked bags. The tagged bags are pulled out before they ever reach the baggage claim area. If you choose to get your own bags, then don't use the yellow DME luggage tags.

2. You can take the bus back to MCO in order to get a rental car. But, you will be dropped off at the regular drop off spot....there are no options.
I'm not exactly sure why you need to get to the arrivals area. The car rental counters are on level 1...where you are dropped off. Baggage claim is on level 2, with the main terminal area on level 3..this is where you arrive when you get off the tram from the gate areas.

Everyone staying at a WDW owned resort is entitled to ride the DME to the resort and then back again, to MCO. What you do once you get back to the airport is up to you. Just remember, you will have to take your luggage with you, on the DME back to MCO. You may want to leave the bags at your resort if you are headed back in that direction after you rent the car.
You can also rent cars from various places close to WDW. Alamo/National is located at the Dolphin and at the Car Care Center (by the entrance to MK), and many car rental companies have counters in various resorts in DTD. For instance, Budget is located at the Doubletree Guest Suites...just a short walk from the Marketplace area of DTD.
