The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Gretchen I feel so bad for your Father. My grandfather had to have everything pureed. One of his strokes left his throat muscle partially paralyzed. I hope his blisters heal soon so he can eat as normal as possible.

Kathy Thanks for updating us on Sheryl:hug:

Nancy Poor Nola and poor Kady  Kady did really well with baby sneeze all over. I don't think I could be so graceful.

It is definetely one page 1 in the husband handbook how to screw a job so your wife never asks you again. :lmao: Sorry all for laughing I do love being single especially with stories like these.

Dinner for me is a salad I have be eating like a little piggy lately.

Vickie Some accents are easier to understand. As long as someone is not speaking too fast I can understand. Though today I was talking to someone on the phone with a very strong korean accent I couldn't get half of what she was saying. I felt bad having to have her spell everything.:confused3

Just spoke with Bob, Sheryl's doing great! She's in her room eating ice chips. Bob said to thank everyone for their prayers and support.:thumbsup2

That's great.

Dinner tonight will be chicken instead of salmon, my DM put thighs in the crockpot. :headache:

I used Patak's Hot Curry paste for the shrimp I made Sunday night and went on their website to look for recipes. They have one for a ground pork burger that I am going to try using ground turkey instead.

just got in and wanted to do a quick check-in on Sheryl...glad to read she is doing well!!:thumbsup2

Be back later to read.

Just checking in!

Sheryl, I am glad to hear you are all out of surgery. I hope you have a fast and easy recovery!!!

I am all alone right now!! YEAH! Jeff left for work and Kady and Pa are swimming at Sunrise Park. Peace and quiet is wonderful!

I felt bad for Kady today, so when her father woke up I had him go get her. When I called Kady to see if she wanted daddy to pick her up, she said, "YES!! Nola is so gross!!" I came home from work and they were playing Disney Scene-It, so she was thrilled:lovestruc

I bought some eggplant for the eggplant sticks, but does anyone have the recipe? I am thinking of making those for lunch tomorrow.

THANKS!!!

Are you and the children planning a visit to Germany?

We would love to visit, but we're definitely not moving there. Right now, we think the unit Greg is going to will deploy in early 2010, so we are hoping that Greg can get leave to join us in Disney in December, we'll do Christmas with him there. Then he'll deploy, and when he returns, the kids and I will spend some time with him in Germany during the kids' summer vacation.

I feel badly for her Mom. She knows that I take good care of her but feels guilty that she is working and not home.Marisa walks that line too and it is harder for Mom than it is for Nola or Kady.

Kids are so resilient...it is hard for parents to realize that sometimes. I always get asked about how Liam and Caili handle Greg being away so much, but they deal with it better than anyone else.

He's been disney deprived up until we go married so it's like watching a little kid at disney everytime we go. I'm secretly glad he had never been so I could see him see disney for the first time.

This made me smile. :lovestruc

He has always been so private and so proud, but I think cancer takes your dignity first.

So true. It must be so hard for you to see him go through this. for you and prayers for your dad.

As far as Becky's floor, the water damage turned out to be a good thing. Both she and John have been so much healthier since they tore out the carpet and replaced it with laminate.

Greg wanted Indian, so no cooking. He just returned, so time to eat!

Aimee, I love stir-fried cabbage. Chopped it up and saute with butter and alot of black pepper...yum, I like cider or malt vinegar on it when eating!!
That sounds tasty!

Also, my mil is supposed to be flying in tomorrow to help babysit while my mom is on vacation. Well, we found out last night that fil went into the hospital Monday night with pnuemonia. So we're scrambling to figure out childcare if she can't come. Any wfd aunties want a job?

Ok, time to hit the gym.

I hope your FIL improves soon! And that you find a babysitter!

Calling the doctor this afternoon, my patience is about a 0 at this point.

I'm glad you're calling

We booked this morning for the Bay lake towers in February. I'm really excited. My parents have some extra points to use up but I though it would be all booked and we'd stay somewhere else. I've never stayed anywhere with a monorail.

Oooh, I am jealous! I booked an offsite hotel deal this week, since we plan to go around Christmas, it was a great deal but we can cancel 24 hours out without penalty. I secretly hope DH scores a JOB so we can move to a Disney hotel but if not, this will be okay. Mom says it's a nice hotel, located near Downtown Disney, and I am paying $200 total for 5 nights PLUS a round of golf for DH at a nearby course. The deal ended on Dec 23, so we will move to something else for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

It's true! It is definitely sabotage. Have I ever told the story of when I asked John to clean the bathroom? He agreed, but cleaned the ENTIRE THING with paper towels, which he continually FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET!! Eventually he created a huge clog and the toilet overflowed so badly that water came down through two floors and completely stained the ceiling! The ceiling ended up having to be repainted, and the carpet had to be pulled up. I think he expected to get out of further bathroom duties by using up so many paper towels, but he definitely did not plan on destroying our house!! We have a cleaning lady now, so it worked out in the end for both of us. ;)

Thanks for the advice. Right now about the only things we have been able to get him to eat/drink are shakes (with the Carnation), mashed potatoes (NO salt), cream of wheat, and low sodium chicken noodle soup (rinsed so all he is really getting are the noodles and the chicken and veggies - all of the broth is washed away because he says the salts burns him up). Honestly though he is eating very little. Can't really blame him with those blisters/ulcers but it worries us.

Chemo is horrible and it is so hard to watch him go through all of this. He has become so frail and dependent, not at all like the man he has been. He hasn't mentioned it, but I know his pride has taken a beating too. He has always been so private and so proud, but I think cancer takes your dignity first.

I had another thought. Have you talked to a nutritionist at the hospital or oncology center? They have some high calorie liquid nutrition that they can get - I can't remember what it's called - but it's more calorie dense then Ensure or Boost. Might be worth a call to one nearby just to ask if they have access to anything else that will offer some more calories.

I took a group of kids out for the day - movie, lunch, and roller skating. DH went with me and we're both exhausted! Tonight DH is cooking chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and fried okra. YUMMMMMMMMMM! It's a lot of work but I was craving it and he agreed to make it :lovestruc

Quick check in...so glad Sheryl is doing well. Thanks for the update Kat!

Gretchen, My continued prayers for your Dad. My brother's diet consisted of lots of fruit and vegetable juices, yogurt, broth (low sodium), herbal tea and lots of ice pops for the sores. He drank alot of Odwalla (that is the brand) smoothy drinks too.

Dinner tonight was quick...hot dogs for the guys and maple apple chicken sausage for me...they were so good! Mac and cheese and salad for a side.

Sorry I have not been around much...I have been trying to fit in the gym when A is in rec and then we head to the pool with the house falling behind. The good thing is that I am down 13#s since I started and at my pre pregnancy weight...too bad I was overweight to begin with!!! :rotfl:

Have a great night...hugs to all!

I am right there with you sister!!!! :lmao: I am partying over seeing a number on a scale most people would cry over. :rotfl: I tell DH all the time I missed my calling in life to be a plus size model. ;) .

I am so proud of you and your gym dedication. Keep up the hard work, I don't know how you manage but more power to you.

---
I got in late from my parents and DH worked O/T so dinner was burgers once again with onion rings. DH was thrilled and could live on burgers. I am getting tired of them.

Oh my Goodness! I bet it worked....no more bathroom cleaning! Buddy has offered to help but won't go near it without gloves. I get wanting gloves but Ladies.....he was raised on a farm. He raised cows, calves, pigs and chickens. He has helped animals birth their young. He has cleaned them and their homes as well. And he cannot touch anything in the bathroom unless he is "protected"?

I know. I think that part of the cruelty of cancer is that you are robbed of all of your privacy. I wish there was more to say or to offer but with this terrible disease there just are no words. :sad1:

Gretchen, I know that you are trying to care for your Dad and support your Mom but please try to take care and time for yourself. You can't be of use to anyone if you get worn out so be careful.

She was so good! I was proud of her, she never bruised tender feelings and she helped me with her bath. I used vapo bath so I squirted it and made bubbles. Nola never had them so she had a ball and Kady kept finding her toys for her. I told her that we are going to spend Friday just us.

I have my veggie soup for dinner. Buddy will have his sandwiches.

Sleep, sleep , and more sleep whenever able...hugs!

Glad to hear your doing well:hug:

Sheryl-Hi There!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad that you are able to post! Keep improving and take care

Lauren- Good for you! I am amazed that you get anything done. I confess that Nola takes a lot of my time...at least that is what I keep telling myself, and I don't get in much exercise.

Ann it will come off :thumbsup2

Dinner is pot roast, potatoes and carrots in the crock pot

Nola seem s a little better this morning. She slept all night and has been in good spirits today so far. She is congested but I hope we can mange that better today. Her little nose ran so much yesterday that I changed her onesie at least six times, washed her hands and face countless times, applied Neosporin under her nse all day and still she and I were a mess :scared: I am hoping tha tall that running, wiping and smearing did not get into her eyes. Conjuntivitus is not fun for a baby

Good Morning!

Sheryl, So nice to see you posting. I am glad all went well. It seems you are doing pretty good...I know you are sore but that is expected after surgery. Keep taking the drugs on schedule and within several days hopefully you can wean off. I was not a great sleeper in the hospital either and then they wake you for meds and vitals. Hugs to you my dear...you are such a strong woman...you will be back in the swing in no time...for now, just rest, rest, rest.

Maria, How are you doing? Charlene answered your question about the fund raiser...sorry I didn't. Camp Fatima is a camp for special needs children and adults. My cousin's son, who is autistic, goes to the camp and our friend, Gene, is on the Board.

Marisa, thank you for the congrats. You have done so well too with the weight loss! How is it going back to work? It helps to get back in a routine but getting back is hard...I still cant seem to get into one.

Nancy, I hope Nola is better today. Poor baby.

Ann, I hope you get the kids on a sleep schedule soon. Those first few weeks were rough for me. Taking care of the baby and being so sore. I need to get this weight off...it is starting to slow me down in my old age. I am trying to be dedicated to the gym but the housework is suffering...oh well. It is time for me. I does get hectic running around but T loved the daycare there and they love him. Thank you for the compliments!

F&W ladies
, I can make ADRs on the 18th...do I need to do anything? I believe Maria was doing some more. I will call you later...

Andrew and I are going for our hair today. I will also get a pedi.

Dinner will be Kat's Cajun Pork Tenderloin (YUM), mashed taters and carrots.

Have a wonderful day!

Ann it will come off :thumbsup2

The amazing thing is right now it is coming off without even trying. My big fear is actually keeping it off. I am down 21lbs since delivering, 5 was pregnancy weight gain and the rest has been a baby delivery bonus!!:woohoo: My 'fat' shorts I had to buy last summer because nothing else would fit are to big and I can take them off without unzipping. I got into my smaller size shorts which still amazes me...BUT, not going out to buy a bikini anytime soon. My DB asked us up to his pool yesterday but I told him I am not ready for bathing suits yet!!!

WFD- I am thinking penne with a pork kabob meat sauce...that might change who knows. DH said we are suppose to get more rain so the grill is out.

-----

Emma is napping now. Last night was not bad. Both kids were down by 9pm. Emma got up at 1:30, and again at 4:30. I got a couple of stretches out of her.

Lauren- Good for you! I am amazed that you get anything done. I confess that Nola takes a lot of my time...at least that is what I keep telling myself, and I don't get in much exercise.

Nola seem s a little better this morning.

Nan, Not too much gets done but I really try not to worry too much. I need to focus on me for a change because if I am not feeling well or in shape, who is gonna take care of everyone? I do tend to get stressed sometimes with the mess but then I just hit the pool! ;)

I am glad that Nola is feeling better. I will say a prayer that it does not go to her eyes. Poor thing!

I agree with you about the age thing. Being an older mother is not easy, I need to get some energy back. My housework has slacked big time. I have an inch of dust, and need a vacuum big time.

My DM invited us over for fried oysters and I am so tempted to go, but I really need to focus on my housework and avoid those yummy fried calories!!!
Last night, I actually passed on onion rings and had a sliced tomatoe with my burger...better choices are at least the beginning!
