What was "gumgate"?

I'm sure one of the "experts" (meant with love! ) can fill you in better but Jodi was watching the kids one day and somehow the kids got gum, which got on one of the kid's toys/lovies/whatever they were called. Kate threatened to throw it out and called Jodi to "discuss" the matter. I'm sure it's on youtube or something.

Jon wanted them in the back in the woods (behind the barn?) which is why he cleared the land. Kate wanted them near the driveway since that is where they play. If they were in the back, they never go back there so they would never see the houses. Maybe there is no cell phone reception in the back...

I am hoping against hope that their ratings will be very low tonight. I don't know how they can be, since they're running that teaser and most people, probably people who don't watch the show religiously, are going to tune in to watch what is most likely going to be a train wreck. Maybe if their ratings are low, then TLC will see it's not worth their $$ to keep this freak show on the air. But I shouldn't talk, I read J&K stories online and browse the magazines at the checkout stand, and I that's probably the same as watching since I am still interested in what is going on with their family. Heck, I've also been lurking on this thread so I shouldn't talk. It's hard not to want to know what's going on, but each thing you read is worse than the last.

I wonder what the kids' friends and classmates are saying. I know school is now out for the year, but these kids have to have friends that they have over, have playdates with, etc. I can't even imagine what their friends are saying to them, unless J&K aren't allowing them to have friends over, which I can see that as well. It just makes me so sad - those innocent kids have no say and they're being paraded around by their idiotic parents so they can make a buck. (I feel that BOTH of them are equally responsible, no matter what was the catalyst for the separation; they're both acting like morons) It makes me think of 10-15 years down the road - we'll probably be seeing Dateline and 20/20 specials interviewing the kids, and how that show affected their lives so much. I just hope that at least for the younger 6, they are young enough to where they won't remember the specifics. But Mady and Cara definately will, and that makes my heart break for them.

Sort of OT, but from what I have seen of the clips, I don't get the crooked houses...they are cute, but the inside just looks like plain plywood, they don't seem all that big and they are $2,500-$4,500??? My BIL bought a wood building that looks like a small house that he uses for projects, I'm pretty sure it was $3,000 and while it's not crooked, it's pretty nice and quite a bit bigger, he can stand up in it and it has a work table and shelves in it. Again, they are cute, but seem way overpriced.

Wow, it sounds like even when Jodi was on the show, she was feeding stuff to her sister (her sister talks about the earlier shows). I assume she has just recently told her sister these things, if they haven't been posted before

I hope this is just a person who feels they need to stick up for her own sister, who has had a lot of negative publicity, for not coming about about how she felt about the show until Kate (supposedly) said no to paying them. I wonder why Jodi and Kevin continued to act like they were friends and wanted to continue being on the show (for pay, of course) if all these awful things happened in season 1 & 2? Why not come out and talk about them then?

Although all these kinds of postings do, IMO is breed more hate for Kate, it also makes me feel bad that someone would post stuff like that, when the concern from the sister in laws sister, is supposed to be the kids. Someday they'll read all that, and know that Aunt Jodi fed it to her sister and it will be even harder to heal the rift the kids will prob have with Jodi and Kevin.

All that gossip and venom will Bible references on the side of the site. Nice.

How on earth did Julie think this was helpful?? She's not even involved but somehow claims she knows what the Gosselins are all about. Sorry but I'm not believing someone who isn't even privy to J&K's lives and is using her blog IMHO to further her popularity. Seriously, Kevin & Jodi would probably still be on the show if the whole $ thing hadn't erupted between them and Kate. It makes it hard to swallow all this, that's all I'm saying. Maybe it's all true, who the heck knows!

Were those bolded comments within that post yours? If so, I totally agree.

What does she benefit? She gets her opinion heard and spread like it is gospel or something. I think she brings unnecessary drama to this sad situation.

the children found the gum at Aunt Jodi's house and took it to her and asked for some. She asked them if they were allowed to have gum and they said yes (because they could have it when they flew). They were 3yo and Aunt Jodi gave them gum. It got on one of the kids blankies/stuffed animals and kate had a fit. She was super busy, packing for someplace they were leaving for and was just downright upset the gum was given to 3yos. She over-reacted and also threatened to just throw it away. It was sad for Aiden, maybe? and hard to watch. I've been known to explode like that so I could definitely feel for her and at the same time, feel the shame I would have if people saw me act like that.

It was wrong of Kate to react like that and wrong of Jodi to give 6 3yos gum when one cannot watch them close enough with it.

Kate called her to say "no more gum" and Jodi lied and said the kids got into the gum.

I think for Kate to see the tape and see that jodi lied to her about the incident and then for Jodi to see how rip roaring mad Kate was, it was a moment caught on tape that would have ended differently w/o cameras there. kate would not have known Jodi lied to her. Jodi would not have known just how mad Kate was.

It seems like Jon wanted to put the houses way back in the woods, which I have to admit, does seem kind of silly. I can understand putting them near trees for some shade since I it might get pretty hot in the houses in the summer, but I wouldn't want them way back in the woods where you can't see them from the yard either.

In some previews it shows the crooked houses in the BACKYARD and yet in some previews it shows Jon clearing a spot in the WOODS for them (I believe).

I was wondering about that too. I can't fault Kate for not wanting the crooked houses in the woods. If it were me, I'd rather have them located where they can be seen from the house and yard. Just my .02.

They didn't seem to "be in the woods", but there were a few trees surrounding them.

Jon will prob say, I worked for hours clearing the land, but Kate didn't like the place I picked out so we moved the spot to where she wanted them to go LOL.

I also noticed that in the preview, and yeah it does scream therapy, or at least that they were trying something??? As far as the houses, I'm pretty sure it's been looking like Kate won (which I totally agree with, why put houses for a 5 year old back in the woods) From the previews I've seen, it doesn't look like they're back in the woods, it looks like they're under a tree in the yard.

"Gum gate" must have been beaten to death here before I even discovered the DIS, . I saw that on a rebroadcast.. I would see the show when I was on my treadmill and would watch bits and pieces here and there. That episode made me tear up, I felt so bad for the little guy. It was, IMOP, horrible how she treated him. He was so scared and crying, threatened to throw out his lovey. Still makes me sick to think about it, UGH!! No joke, all I could think of was that movie Cybil with Sally Field back in the late 70's how that monster, I mean mother was to her child.

I know the big announcement: TLC is spinning off a new show "Where is the world is Jon/Kate?" It will be a 30 minute show after the regular show airs and each week it's show what spouse isn't with the kids. So essentially jon and Kate will get their very own show.

I just had to drop in and report that the local news is reporting about the hysteria surrounding J&K's announcement tonight. They showed video of all the paparazzi staked out around their house and the fans. It's kinda crazy. I'm tempted to drive over there to see this craziness myself.

They just interviewed a woman who came all the way from Michiganto see their house. Who would do that?

I've stopped watching the show on Mondays -- I did see the season opener, and that's pretty much it for season 5. That's my first step.

Can I join the group too?? Hi, I'm (insert name here) and I have an unusual interest in a family I've never met but have grown to love by watching them on reality TV! Sounds bad, doesn't it? I'm sure my DH is already staging an intervention for me...

Julie has said she has known Kate since 1992? when Jodi and Kevin first were together. Long before Jon or 8. Julie has also said she was around during filming quite a bit because she and Jodi are very close. Who is Julie gaining popularity with, and how will this blog be beneficial to her?

I understood the money thing to play out like this: Kate got wind that TLC/Figure 8 Films or whoever had offered to begin compensating Jodi and Kevin along with Beth and Bob, maybe others. The people on the show regularly and whose homes filming took place at. Kate said "nobody's making money off my kids but me" and if you have to pay them, we'll just ditch them. I have never heard that Jodi and Kevin asked to be compensated.

I don't know if I have it straight or not, but this is what I have read over the past year or so. There is so much stuff, it is hard to know what's legit. No soap opera writer could have come up with this if they tried.

Putting up that blog to further drag down a family in trouble seems pretty twisted AND to do it in the name of God makes it worse. If indeed Julie has known Kate all this time, has been on set and in the Gosselin's lives why didn't she confront Kate? Why blog about it for the whole world to see? Why make more of a media trail for the kids that she says are exploited to read with their own eyes when they are older? How will it look that their Aunt Jodi's sister wrote horrible things about their parents but it was done in their name for their safety? As far as Julie gaining popularity...the people over on GWOP practically worship her. Ok, that's a stretch but you get my drift.

Yes, those were my bolded comments mixed in with Julie's latest blog post. You are 100% correct, it absolutely brings TONS of unneccessary drama to this family. I just don't get it, she claims she wants to help but how is she helping by writing this? All I can see is the Gosselin kids years from now googling this mess and lo and behold, there's Aunt Jodi trashing their parents and then Aunt Jodi's sister trashing them as well. (I just pray they never come across the GWOP site!) Maybe they should have thought of that beforehand. Another thought too...weren't Kevin & Jodi's kids on the show? I recall seeing them numerous times but I guess that was OK? It's really starting to sound like Jodi is trying to get her digs in while J&K are going down. Sheesh, with family like that who the heck needs enemies??

That is kinda freaky. I will say though I was tempted. I'm from Lancaster (not too far from where the Gosselin clan are currently living) and I went back about 2 weeks ago to visit family, and I'll admit that I thought about driving by. I would never stop or get out, but I was tempted to drive by. I know, kinda crazy

I totally agree with that! Jodi was complaining that the cameras were too intrusive and even filmed inside the childrens bedrooms...........we're so far behind over here we're still seeing the episodes with Jodi and Kevin in and just after I saw that Radaronline snippet an episode came on when the kids were at Jodi's house - filming in her kids bedrooms!!

That's right! They were filming all the kids playing dress-up in her kids' bedroom. Wow, it was ok then but not now? She and Kevin said that filming was intrusive but they allowed TLC to put fim lighting in their home since obviously they were going to be filming there?

It's coming on tonight at 9pm EST but you're in Scotland so I have no idea!
