Severe Wind Breaks Wonder's Mooring Lines at PC!

So, it seems that the conditions were ripe for this incident. I wonder what types of policies will be in place next time the weather in port is windy or less than mild. I doubt DCL had a "no standing on the gangway" policy prior to this incident, I bet that'll change.

Believe it was just after 3:30. They still had a few crew to get on and we had about 10 of our guys still on. With all the stuff that had collapsed there was no way they could get close enough to the dock

That's what they said on the news report on the time. Thank goodness it happened then. Even an hour earlier would have been a disaster.

another 1hr later and our line crew would have been on dock for the let go of the ship, so im glad there was noone hurt.

Here is what we have been told:
- If you dine at Tritons your last night, debark via Deck 1 forward
- If you dine at Parrot Cay/Animators, debark via Deck 1 aft

Not sure how embark will work, but will be via Deck 1 from the pier.
Also heard the main gangway may be out of commission for up to 8-weeks.

Thanks for all the great posts, but(said with a smile on face)
What the heck, who cares, lol, maybe you are stuck on the ship:lmao:

Oh my! Getting everyone through a smaller space will cause delays. I will let our neighbors know as they are going to be boarding on Saturday. Honestly, I am glad that DCL did not rush to put the gangway back into use. Obviously they never supposed that anything like this would happen so there isn't an extra one somewhere to put in its place. The inconvenience is minor for things to be safe for everyone.

Oh man!

I'm starting to think that embarkation on Saturday is going to be a NIGHTMARE!

Thanks for the update, Kevin - I'm at least glad to know what we may be getting into.

I'm glad no one was hurt. We embark on the 4 day Wonder Sunday. It's our friends 1st cruise and I was hoping to video tape them as they walked into the atrium and their name was called. I don't think it will have the same feeling to walk into deck 1. Like I said though, I am glad no one was hurt and we'll deal with the smaller gangway and make the most of it.

we cruise on Feb 8th, so the main gangway should be in place by then. :cool1: Very thankful that no one was injured. It had the potential to be devistating.....

We sail next Thurday. This is my sister's first cruise. Any chance the gangway will be back up next week. How would we get down to the pier, I don't remember any elevators on that end of the building? Are they still taking pictures before boarding? I guess only time will tell. Please keep us updated.:santa:

Thanks for posting PorterBob. Posters like you and CaptainBJ who have expertise or direct knowledge of certain aspects of the cruising industry really gives a great perspective of what's going on.

Now if we can only find a server to contribute to the tipping threads :goodvibes

So, let me get this straight...
Everyone will have to board EITHER ship from deck 1 because it was the gangway from the terminal that was damaged?
I just wanted to clarify that it will affect both Wonder and Magic cruisers:confused3

We sail Dec. 13th on the Magic... guess we'll see how we board then.
Heck, they could drop me from a zip line, whatever, just as long as I am on the DISNEY MAGIC!!:goodvibes

Disney boarded all guest on Deck 1 for the Barcelona sailings. It was quite organized and did not affect the time it took to get on the ship. For those sailings you boarded the elevator that took you straight to Deck 9 then you were announced at the adult pool as you exited. Not nearly as nice as the atrium but it works!

Hope that helps
Dan

It would effect both ships as they use the same facility.

Agree it worked very well for both embarkation and disembarkation at Barcelona.

Dang, my first cruise and I won't be able to use the main gangway. Oh well, I'm just happy to go on it in the first place...

It will be like boarding when you come back from a port.

I believe we boarded on Deck 1 from the 2005 Panama Canal cruise when we first boarded in LA. It was either that cruise or the cruise from Ft. Lauderdale when they had to change terminals due to Hurricane Jeanne....can't remember which cruise but I know on one of our DCL cruises we initially boarded on Deck 1.

Hi!

I thought we boarded on Deck 4 via a gangway in LA for the 2005 ( and 2008) Eastbound repos. So maybe FL, I have only embarked on deck 1 at Barcelona, it was fine.

heck, give me a rope ladder and I will get on....:lmao:
