What? You've never had cannedeloupe :rotfl2: O.k., that was weak. Serioulsy though, the canteloupe/melon was fresh, but the trays of mixed fruit "salad" appeared to be canned. It's still a great value, though.

Have a great time!!! :wizard:

You are all cracking me up today :rotfl2: !

Anyone send yourself supplies to SOG? How did it work?

I am torn between going to the grocery on the way (don't really want to waste the park time and the hassle of dragging 2 kids and DH who will end up buying the whole store:rotfl: ) vs using garden grocer (the prices for diapers are :scared1: I'm used to shopping DECA) vs just sending a box in advance with all my non-perishables -diapers, formula, baby food, cereal)

Will the shipping costs wipe out any savings? And will they just hold it if it arrives early?

Help!

Hi!
Is there a list somewhere showing which DIS members will be at SOG over the holidays? This board is so big and I spend most of my time on Tour Guide Mike's site, so I'm not sure where to look!

We'll be there from Dec. 21-31 for the first time. We usually stay at Disney resorts. I'm a little nervous to try SOG, but I'm sure it will be great!

This is a surprise for our twins, so it should be a blast! They've been 6 times already, but we've never been at Christmas.

I'm really excited to be at Disney for the holidays!

So, who else will be there this year?

Kristie, did you change your plan of coming in Christmas afternoon?
We will arrive on Dec. 18, leave for a cruise on the 21st, and come back to SOG for the 24th-26th. It is our first time doing Christmas at Disney and I'm trying to figure out just how we want to juggle all of this. We are doing the Candlelight Processional on Christmas Eve so that's one biggie out of the way.

If anyone wants to pm me with their dates, I will try to keep a running list of who will be there that week.

I know there is suppose to be a big group with some teens and grandparents.

My group is me, DH, and DD (16).

I love SOG during the christmas season. We went right after Thanksgiving 4 yrs ago, I am taking my DGD Dec 12 - 16th for a quick visit. We will be going to MVMCP. Since my DS has moved to Florida--- more reasons for a visit.

Kristie, did you change your plan of coming in Christmas afternoon?

Yes, we were able to get cheaper tickets (and a longer vacation!) leaving on Sunday, Dec. 21.

We have 2 rooms. It will be myself, DH, and our twins (7) in one room and my parents (Cocoa Beach residents) in the other. We'll arrive 12/21 and check out 12/31.

Al, I love that picture! It really looks beautiful - thanks for sharing!

Kristie :)

Just got home a few hours ago from a fabulous week at Shades. The bus system was the best (so much better than Pop ~ sorry Poppers) Evergreens was good but not great. They were under staffed. In fact one server had to keep going out to get the other servers off their smoke break. I didn't think the onion rings were anything to write home about but the pizza was :thumbsup2

Our room was great. I requested a balcony instead of a patio. Last time we right next to a lake on the first floor. I was a little nervous about alligators being on the patio after dark and I planned on sitting out there. The assistent manager that checked us in told us to be careful walking to the Poly. He said that someone strayed off of the Shades path at the Poly a few weeks ago and an alligator came out of hiding to 'chase' the guests. :scared1: We stayed on the path and I hung on to DH pretty tight.

I love that. Guess it was the gator's way of saying, "get out of my space".
But now, all you new readers, don't go getting in a panic about the gators along the walk. I've stayed there since '97 and haven't had a gator get within 20 feet. Stay on the path and you should be alright.

:santa: Okay, I'll add to this and move it around as you let me know:

TotalSnowWhite: Dec 3-7
nrsldy: Dec: 12-16
mom2jcc: Dec. 13-21
twinboymommy: Dec. 21-31
katrob: Dec 18-21; 24-26

Oh, and I forgot to add ~ Evergreens doesn't serve beverages in those cool plastic cups anymore. :sad1: I was hoping to add to my dwindling collection.

Lorie (or anyone),
I know there have been many discussions on this topic on this thread, but I have report cards and parent-teacher conferences this week so I don't have time to read all of the pages to look for it!

Would it be best to request the new section? I think we'd like a golf course view - do I request that? Any other room request tips? My dad will stay at the resort most days (he doesn't go to the parks much), so I'd like for him to have a nice balcony with a great view so he can relax with a newspaper!

Thanks for any advice you can give me!
Kristie :)

That is too bad. I enjoyed a cup that was sturdy and could be reused. Are the new ones styro or paper?

What would you say was wrong with the onion rings? Old grease? Are they still sliced onion? They used to be sooooo good.

KatRob- I too have been since 99 and while I have seen gators in the water and on the golf course, I have never witnessed them being aggressive. Usually when that happens, they relocate them. Of course, not much you can do about idiot guests who walk to the waters edge to "pet the cute gator". Bus driver once told me they have to inform some guests that gators are not puppies.

We always stay on the paths. I have seen what I think are gator eyes sticking up out of the water a little bit, but the water is so murky, it's hard to be sure. Gators do live in those ponds, but generally stay in the water or close to the water's edge. People who get chased usually are invading the gator's space, the gator's dont' go looking for people. I've also read many posts about Disney's policy of relocating them once they get to a certain size.

We leave this Thursday because we're going on a cruise first, so while I'm excited about SOG and WDW, I'm more excited about our cruise right now.

We were there last month and I also was upset because we didn't get the Evergreen cups. I think they were plastic cups now.

We thought the onion rings were great - they are still the sliced onion. I miss them!

Decided to change our January trip to the first week in February to take advantage of the Birthday deal, so had to cancel our reservation at SOG. While I was talking to Monique about cancelling, she said she could book us at any other Disney resort and still use our discount....20%. Had planned to book at POFQ, so she booked us there for $119/nite versus the $117/nite at SOG. Apparently booking through SOG, one can get a decent discount at other resorts, just for being a veteran.:thumbsup2

I thought you could only get the discount if SOG was booked? That is a good price for POR. Congrats:wizard:
