The "I've Waited Forever to Go Solo" Mom's Leaving Everyone Behind Trip! Updt 3/11

Woo-hoo, your trip is coming up fast! :dance3: The itinerary looks great! And what a nice idea to do your vow renewals. The dress is awesome and what a great price! I'd go with the 10-day No Expire ticket - or even an AP - you might get some resort discounts out of it for January and next August. Yes, the Transportation Board can get ugly - but what a wealth of information! It's worth it to take the risk!

Great planning - I can't wait to see your TR! :yay:

Allyson,

Don't worry about the ME tags. We changed our resort location VERY close to our departure and all was well. I just used a Sharpie, crossed out All Star Music, wrote in Wilderness Lodge and the Magic ensued!!

I'm telling you though, this whole solo thing has me on a roller coaster. I tried to take as many moments as possible on this past trip to be 'slightly solo' (inspired by you) and I'm still not sure how I did! :) Dining was tough but not as tough as I thought. It would be the biggest adjustment because I like to sit down and have someone wait on me when I eat. (I think the folks reading my TR must think I weigh 300lbs!! Well, I used to, but that's another story :) ) I like CS when I can get a seat but my favorite, Mexico, was disgusting this time. Oh well. People watching was fun, but I didn't try riding by myself and I'm unsure. I can't WAIT to see how you do! I'm sure it will inspire me further.

BTW, thanks for the encouragement.

love the update Allyson,

OMG I LOVE that dress!!! so special about the vow renewal, what a blast to share it with your best friends...

You'll have to price out the tickets and see if you can manage it all up front I guess.
Thanks! Yes it will be super fun and special to do it with them!
Who would have thought the shoulder and the ankle???

No kidding about not cooking the whole time!!! He would have been a 10-pounder!
I know, my thoughts too, the ankle??? The body is a strange thing!

what a gorgeous dress!! and kudos to you guys for doing the renewal yourselves. how special.
Thanks, it is going to be a neat thing!

Love the dress! Great idea about do-it-yourself renewals! It'll be more special that way anyway!

I say if you can swing the extra cost of the 10 day no expiration tickets, then I would do that!
I think I am going to figure out how much extra and try to do that.

Your plans sound great, especially the vow renewals.

And your dress is just beautiful!!!

Happy Birthday Goofy :)
Thank you!

Happy Birthday Goofy!!!

Great find on the dress!!!

I would def upgrade the ticket, it'll make it cheaper later!
You are right, I need to see how much extra I need to do this.

I say - go for broke!! If your next year trip is within a year of this trip I would upgrade to an annual pass then all the trips would be covered......plus if you decide you really like this solo-thing you could try to sneak another one in! My first solo trip was part of a business trip - I added a couple days ahead of the conference, I bought an annual pass because we were planning a week+ family vacation so it was cheaper to include it all together. The next year rolled around and I told my husband I "had" to go back before my pass expired.......and he said ok So I go two solo trips and a family trip out of my pass
I think the August trip will be close to within a year, I need to look at a calendar. It might just miss it. I doubt beyond January and next August I could get another one in there. Grumpy might just put his foot down on that! LOL!

The dress is just beautiful! How very special to renew your vows with dear friends

It sounds like everything else is coming together as well...I haven't been to the Transportation boards, but I have a feeling I would probably feel awkward as well, so thanks for that heads up! I hope you got the answers you needed though...

Here's wishing Goofy a wonderful Bday!! :cake: :bday:
Thanks he had a great day and a great party too!

.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GOOFY! I hope he had a great day! Allyson, I feel like I am sooooo far behind!:scared1: That is AWESOME about the vow renewal! How special! I am envious, you really seem to have such a carefree spirit! My DH and I ran a marathon (the marine corp) in 10/ 2005 and the feeling of finishing that was INCREDIBLE! I wish you the BEST of luck you will feel so awesome when you finish! Oh by the way, that dress is BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT for the Bahamas! I say get the 10 day no expire you know it will be worth it!! I hope your solo trip is all you want it to be, you deserve it!:goodvibes
Awwww, thanks so much! I try to have fun, life is too short! You go girl running a full marathon! WOW! I can only imagine the JOY that comes with finishing. I was elated to finish my first 5K! It is so fulfilling to accomplish something like that!

Happy Birthday Mr. Goofy! :cool1: :thumbsup2 :goodvibes :wizard: :woohoo: :yay: pirate:

The Lily dress is AMAZING and I am impressed with your bargain hunting ability. I love a "do it yourself" vow renewal. Sounds fantastic and what better way to celebrate than with your best friends.

Tough to say whether I'd trust the cross it out method on ME. Although you'll be by yourself and if pack your essentials in your carryon and have to buy yourself a few t-shirts would that be so bad?? :rolleyes1

I'm no expert but yes it would seem like the longer pass would offer you more value. Heck- why not go for the annual pass and find some more reasons to visit?
Yes the AP sounds heavenly but I don't know. I think if I can swing the 10 day now though it might be a good move. Thanks on the dress, more on that soon!

Happy Birthday to Goofy :cake: It was my DD's Birthday on the 16th and my wedding anniversary the 15th, she always used to say she was born the day after Mummy and Daddy got married  She always forgot the year and a day bit :rotfl:

Your wedding vow renewal sounds beautiful and even more special that you're doing it your way, gorgeous dress too :)

I would say buy the longer 10 day ticket as it will be so much cheaper!
So this is a big week in your family! Happy Birthday to your DD and Happy Anniversary too! That is too funny about being born the day after the wedding! LOL!

Thanks, yes the 10 day is sounding like a smart move!

Allyson,

I just caught up on your report and saw that you tried doing some solo things! The Yak and Yeti sounds good! I have heard that servers are especially attentive to solo diners and it certainly seemed true for you! Your trip with the 3 girls looked like so much fun! I bet they'll remember it forever!

Allyson :)

Okay so it is just 32 days away, 32! Talk about Zoom Zoom!

Couple of things...

"the" dress arrived! And I love it! It is even prettier in person. It is such a nice quality and hangs so well. I do need to have it taken in on top. I'm not so, well, endowed and it is a bit big up there. But otherwise I love it, it was a bargain and it is just made to be worn on a warm Bahamian beach at sunset! Grumpy just rolls his eyes at me when I tell him he needs to wear tan linen pants rolled up and a white button down shirt. But hey, doesn't that sound like appropriate attire for him?

Goofy turned 6 and had his party on Saturday. :thumbsup2 I haven't uploaded my pictures yet but I'll share a few once I do. We had the Creature Teacher here and she brought about 8 animals with her. It was an hour presentation and the kids all got to touch or hold each of the critters. There was a tarantula, couple of snakes, ferret, skink, legless lizard, chameleon gecko and the piece de resistance, Walter the alligator. The kids had a lot of fun and learned some things too. It was well done.

Okay so it is getting closer. I purchased a small cute notebook to keep in my bag to jot down thoughts while I am eating or sitting. I also got a new pair of Crocs to add to my collection. I am a huge Croc lover, I can't help myself. I got this pair and wore them today, liking them a lot.

shoes_iaec1074996.jpg

I figure I'll bring these with me as well as my Khaki Crocs and my Brown/Pink Sketcher Flip Flops. I think I'll leave my Pink Crocs at home. I might leave my Lands End sneakers home too. I love these for the park, they look like a sneaker but are very quick drying if they get wet. Kind of like the Beach Trekkers but not quite. Very comfy, I wore them sometimes on the last trips. I just don't want to overpack in the footwear department.

And I'm reading in some "What to Pack in August" threads about the necessity of the Misty Mate type fan. What do you think? Some say Misty Mate, some say a fan minus the water. I see both on ebay but should order soon if I want to get it in time. Any personal recommendations?

Okay, I had read Quacktatty's January 2007 Solo Trip report and loved that she did a Solo Trip Pledge! So I am stealing her idea and doing one too!

*Ahem*

On this Solo Trip I will do my best to:

1.Not look at my watch all the time, to go with the flow and really stop and smell the roses
2.Have something completely unbreakfast-like for breakfast one day.
3.Go through the Animator's Studio 3 times.
4.Offer to take pictures so a family can all be in the shot.
5.See Fantasmic!
6.Use the Single Rider Line whenever possible
7.Ride my favorites as many times as I want
8.Swim in the pool one morning
9.Buy one silly souvenir just because I want to
10.Use the Photopass even if it is just me
11. See the afternoon parade
12. Truly enjoy a TS meal by myself
13. Take at least 5 pictures with characters
14. Try the French Toast Loaf at the Main Street Bakery
15. Get a Grey Goose Slushie in France
16. Make conversation with CMs
17. Say hi when I see a fellow DISer (on the lookout for LGMH!)
18. See the Kiss Goodnight at MK
19. Try to spread some pixie dust to my fellow guests
20. Take lots of pictures of the little details!

What I don't want to do is clean up after any bloody noses or feel like I've got to slow down or speed up for anyone (see my last trip report for those! LOL!). I think that is what will be neat, being purely selfish and going at my own pace. It was super hot and humid here today and I said to Grumpy, imagine this but worse and being in Disney World. He cringed. I told him the cool thing was though that it would just be me. I can duck in a store or an attraction, I don't have to worry about anyone whining about the heat or complaining, it will just be so easy being just myself!

So I think I can even, gosh dare I say it, pull out the suitcase soon! I don't think I need to buy very much. We still have lots of little toiletries from our March trip that I overbought and from Maine too. I might need a few little things but really, not much. I might just pull it out though and take an inventory. Hoping my travel documents arrive this week! I always like having those in hand.

Here is a question for you, sort of safety/travelling alone related. I know being a woman travelling alone it isn't something you want to advertise. I've gotton some good tips from friends and people on the Solo board. If you were talking to people in a ride queue would you say you were alone? Or if asked would you say something like you were there with your family or friends and just were splitting up at the moment or something? I don't like to lie but I don't want to be careless either. I always like talking to people in lines when we go but just wondered if being alone it would be wise to say "Oh I'm here alone!".

Completely unrelated, my book pick of the week is by Elizabeth Berg, The Year of Pleasures. I read it in just a few days this week, a really great story. I loved it. I will definately be looking for more of her stuff. And I just started Jodi Picoult's Second Glance.

Oh and one other thing I did this week. I typed up my list of names/addresses for my Fairy Godmailers. I am sending cards to boys, girls in Canada and someone's dad (sounds a lot like a Papa situation to me!). Last call for any of my readers. If you would like a Fairy Godmailer postcard sent to you let me know!

Until next time folks!

:ccat: would LOVE that party. I may have to look into that for next year. He's our critter guy.

I've considered the Mary Janes. I've got to get a new pair before our trip, and I'm deciding between those and the Cleos.

Obviously I wouldn't mention it, but if they ask I guess I'd probably go with my gut instinct.

ME ME ME!! I've been considering this for the boys. We did gift baskets last time, and I loved them, but I really don't want the boys to expect it every time we go. I was thinking that a postcard before we go saying that Mickey is looking forward to seeing them again would be good, and I'll make them little gift bags for the ride down. If you want to be our Godmailer, then send me an email.

This is so cool! You are truly going to have such a fun, fun, fun time!!! I will definitely enjoy reading all about it when you return!

The book I haven't been able to put down tonight is Gods in Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson -- I started it after the kids and I played cards after dinner, and just now tore myself away from it. I'll probably have it finished by this time tomorrow -- it's that good!

Good job on the pledge! I'm glad to see my idea carried on.

As far as letting other people know you are solo...I say why not. What is somebody going to be able to do to you in line? You are in a huge public place with 1000's of eyes watching.

I would recommend not walking the path from Epcot to DHS screaming at the top of your lungs that you are all alone...but other than that, don't worry!!!!!

I don't do a lot of talking to people in line, but when I did talk to a family last year I told them I was alone and they invited me to join them for the rest of the day :rotfl:

Allyson,

Goofy's party sounds like it was alot of fun!!:thumbsup2 I LOVE the idea of a solo trip pledge! That is so neat! About the in line saying you're there alone thing, I would go with the "seperated from my family scenario" the only place I couldn't see you getting away with that, would be Dumbo:rotfl2: At Dumbo, I would pretend I didn't understand/speak English and take a vow of silence while you're waiting in that line!!:rotfl: :goodvibes Just make sure the CM checking you in at POP doesn't say your room # out loud, that is what worries me most!:thumbsup2

I love your solo trip pledge. But what is the Kiss Goodnight? I have never heard of it.

I think it's great that you get to see the World alone, at your own pace. But I would not advertise that you're solo just to be on the safe side.

Love the solo pledge! You have so many great ideas. I'm going to have to save a copy for when I make my solo trip next year.

I love your solo trip pledge. But what is the Kiss Goodnight? I have never heard of it.

I think it's great that you get to see the World alone, at your own pace. But I would not advertise that you're solo just to be on the safe side.

I had never heard of it either....I checked out youtube and it is another lighting show of the castle, obviously right at closing time. very nice.

Allyson I LOVE the dress...it will be perfect! Goofy's party sounds like a great time...my littlest kiddo would love something like that! About the tickets... definately look at when you're figuring next August. 10 day hopper w/ no expiration is $479 (w/o discounts) which is cool if you're going to be outside the 1 yr window... but if you can squeeze it into the same calandar year the AP (which of course allows park hopping) is $477... plus there's usually AP room/pkg discounts in August to save you more $$. You also get discounts on tours (ie KTTK) and stores and some restaurants too... could certainly be a $$ saver:goodvibes

When I was there in Feb.. I had a package w/ free WP and PH upgrade... when I upgraded to my AP I only paid the difference between the FULL price of that tix and the AP not what I actually had paid... so I was able to upgrade for even less than I had thought.

I loved the idea of the pledge... I've been writing my thoughts down about my upcoming trip in a journal... mainly to help me figure out what exactly I want to do... when I get closer to OCT I'll have to read thru it and make a pledge up too:)

Love the Pledge! The Kiss Goodnight looks really neat - I found it on YouTube - I'm getting so many good ideas for my "someday" solo trip! :thumbsup2

P.S. Happy Birthday to Goofy! My little Tigger is turning 6 this summer too. Time flies doesn't it?

love the pledge! I guess I might be to trusting at times, but I don't see anything wrong with telling people you are alone either.

I don't know what the kiss goodnight is either, I guess I'll have to look that up!

I LOVE your pledge! I may adopt that as well -- and yes, I will start a PTR soon. ;) Your crocs are adorable too. 32 days- can't believe how it has flown by!!

Great Pledge!!!
One more month!!! Your trip is so close!:yay:
Sounds like Goofy's party was a lot of fun!
Your dress is gorgeous! What a great price.

I agree! Sounds like the perfect outfit for Grumpy. I can't wait to see pictures!!

All set on the Fairy Godmailer! What are the Croc Cleos? I'll have to check those out, I don't know all the names so I don't know if I've seen them!

This is so cool! You are truly going to have such a fun, fun, fun time!!! I will definitely enjoy reading all about it when you return!

So how was the rest of your book? I just picked up a new Jodi Picoult but haven't had time this week to read very much.

Good job on the pledge! I'm glad to see my idea carried on.

As far as letting other people know you are solo...I say why not. What is somebody going to be able to do to you in line? You are in a huge public place with 1000's of eyes watching.

Good advice, thank you. I'll be sure not to scream "I'm alone come and get me" anywhere on my trip! LOL! And your pledge is inspiring others! Nice work!

Love the solo trip pledge! Can't wait to hear how it all plays out!! :goodvibes
Our trips are getting veeerrrryyyy close!

Allyson,

Goofy's party sounds like it was alot of fun!!:thumbsup2 I LOVE the idea of a solo trip pledge! That is so neat! Yes I used to be a hotel desk clerk a million moons ago and that was a HUGE no-no. I will have my cell with me and can conveniently call DH and do the "Where are you and let's meet here" phone call if I feel uncomfortable. I guess my only concern is walking back to my room at Pop but when I think back to my stay there with my family there were always people out and about that place at night.

I love your solo trip pledge. But what is the Kiss Goodnight? I have never heard of it.

I think it's great that you get to see the World alone, at your own pace. But I would not advertise that you're solo just to be on the safe side.
I see that someone talked about the Kiss Goodnight down below. I have heard some day its no big deal, others say it is really sweet. I want to see for myself and my kids would never be up late enough to close the park so this is my chance!

Love the solo pledge! You have so many great ideas. I'm going to have to save a copy for when I make my solo trip next year.
Yes yes! And many of the ideas came from these wonderful readers! Its been fun to accumulate them and see what things I would have never thought to do.

I had never heard of it either....I checked out youtube and it is another lighting show of the castle, obviously right at closing time. very nice.
Doesn't it look neat? I want to see it!

Thanks for doing the math for me on those tickets, I was hoping someone would! LOL! Math was never my forte'. I guess I really need to figure out when Belle and I would be going next August. It might be within a year but it might be off by a few days. Ahhhh, need to pull out the calendar. Glad you like the pledge idea, thank Quacktatty for the inspiration! I like the idea of it. I don't know when the next time I'll get a solo trip will be, this might be the one and only who knows, and I want to make the most of it!

Love the Pledge! The Kiss Goodnight looks really neat - I found it on YouTube - I'm getting so many good ideas for my "someday" solo trip! :thumbsup2

It certainly does! Happy Birthday to Tigger too! 6 is a fun age!

love the pledge! I guess I might be to trusting at times, but I don't see anything wrong with telling people you are alone either.

I don't know what the kiss goodnight is either, I guess I'll have to look that up!
Look it up, it is just one of those things I want to say I've seen.

Hey! FYI I started my PTR...Links in the siggie :)
I'm there!

I LOVE your pledge! I may adopt that as well -- and yes, I will start a PTR soon. ;) Your crocs are adorable too. 32 days- can't believe how it has flown by!!
Yes make one! It is a neat idea! And do start your PTR soon, I want to read it! Now it is 26 days, I can't even believe it!

Great Pledge!!!
One more month!!! Your trip is so close!:yay:
Sounds like Goofy's party was a lot of fun!
Your dress is gorgeous! What a great price.
Thanks on the dress, I do love it! And his party was a success, he had a blast. Now I just need to get those pesky thank you cards written, I can be such a procrastinator with some things. Under 4 weeks now!
