PTR for the planning obsessed....Updated 11/5 We're home now.

Did anyone get to go to River Country before it closed? I don't even think we knew about when we were there.

We went during our 1983 trip. (I did ask my mother for pictures so hopefully I'll have some oldies soon too). My father has never been a very strong swimmer so my mother went down the waterslide first, then my father sent me down. She made sure I got to the side safely. Then he sent my brother down and he was supposed to follow right after. He was 6 at the time - he swam OK, but he was still 6. Well when he hit the water he paniced... he grabbed my mother and somehow managed to wrap himself around her so that her arms were down at her sides. :scared1: They started to sink and had to be rescued by a life guard. She still tells the story as if it is my father's fault... :rolleyes1 I think she wanted him to come down the slide and rescue her, but I'm sure the life guards wouldn't let him go down until the water was clear...:rolleyes2 It's one of my clearest memories from that trip - probably because my mother won't let it go... :rotfl:

Amy-
Your Mom should have looked on the bright side....at least she didn't have to catch your Dad!

I just checked the cost of our Southwest flight to Orlando. I paid $95 per ticket...it's now $144 per ticket. I'm so glad I decided not to wait to buy the tickets as round trip. Our returning tickets go on sale June 26th. I'm hoping for no more then $125 each.

I'll always book my two legs separately in the future - a tip I picked up here on the DIS - that way if you have to change one of the legs (or get to extend your trip ;)) you don't have to mess with both parts.

Hi! Just got done reading your PTR. Sounds like your family will be having a blast! DH, DS (11) and I will be there at the same time, from Oct 26th to Nov 1st. We are staying at POP; this is our second trip and our 1st MNSSHP! :cool1: Maybe we will see you around!:thumbsup2

I think I'll keep on doing that way after this trip...

:welcome: Mary! Thanks for joining us and please continue to post! We can share tips and such :wizard:

I only hope I don't regret not going to the Halloween party...but I figure with an 18 month old it could very well be wasted money.

OK where were we? Oh yeah...1984 and we're heading to EPCOT Center for 2 days.

Here we are in Future World. I remember very clearly playing with those jumpin' fountains. I was really amazed with them and how they worked.

And I seemed to love terry cloth clothing in 1984 as you will see again later.

I remember Journey into Imagination....I really loved it....I'm guessing that we went on it more then once.

Here's World Showcase

Who wears short shorts? Terry cloth short shorts? With a cheap "painter's" cap from Busch Gardens!

That outfit is so wrong on so many levels! But then again I had a pair of jeans a couple years before this that had a fake belt attached in rainbow elastic that said DISCO on it :confused3

This was fun...my dad got picked to be in a street show with the World Showcase Players.

That's him laying on the ground. I think the storyline was that he was a chef and he had to steal back the Bologna that the woman guest was wearing on her head? I have no idea really but I do remember that it was very funny.

Have you noticed how few children are around? Guess my parents were rebels back then for taking me out of school for the week. But we had no lines for the attractions so the strategy worked.

Up Next: Another one of those post card things from EPCOT Center

My parents used to take us out of school in September to go to Disney. It was great! No lines :)

Love the outfits!

Love the outfits!! I remember owning a lot of terry cloth back in the day!! I'm sure I had a pair or two of short short too! :rotfl2:

I remember going in high school (late 80s/1990ish) with my best friend & family & we bought matching "splatter pants" as we called them. They were white capri-ish pants with all different colors of paint splattered all over them. :lmao: We were quite the fashionistas back then!

We took most of our week long vacation during the school year. Luckly I was a good student.

I remember those pants...didn't have them but I'm sure I had something equally trendy. In hte late 80's I had jean overalls that were air-brushed in CT...very hip hop for the Lakes Region in NH! If I can find them I'll take a picture to share....<I promised it will be Disney related ;) >.

I remember the splatter paint look!! Very chic. One of my friend's older sisters had the splatter paint bedroom, I was very jealous!!

I got one of those big postcard things from EPCOT too. I scanned the best of them.

I remember CommuniCore...and that timer like thing in the middle of the picture.

I know we rode the Engery ride (no Ellen back then) and I know we rode World of Motion but I don't remember it at all. I'll have to check it out on YouTube.

epcot1.jpg

the universe of energy is pretty much the same now as it was then. They just added Ellen in the dino scenes and the beginning of course.

The world of motion took you through the invention of the wheel and on and on. It was interesting.

Then what was Horizons???

In horizons you got to pick your adventure. YOu could go to space, the dessert, the ocean and I think someplace else.

I hope I"m not getting the 2 confused :)

Since we were talkin' bad fashion....Here are the air-brushed overalls from 1990. I loved Mickey even back then!
(I found them in a box....can't seem to throw them away....)

It's time to wrap up 1984.....

Remember when we all used film in our cameras and after vacation we would have to take a few more pictures to "finish the roll of film"? We had so many pictures of the dang cat that way!

Here's those finish up the roll pictures from 1984
1984FLvacationsouvenirs.jpg

I still have those Mickey ears! I remember most of those souvenirs...the grey thing in the middle was like a light sleveless sweatshirt....I wore it all the time. I don't remember the Shamu plush, but when I went again in 2002 I got one for my dog Riley....he still has it 6 years later...a bit dirty but in perfect shape otherwise...my Lab is very gentle with his "babies"!

Well I hope you liked my little trip down memory lane. I might do my Disneyland trip next month....that should take all about 1 post!

Coming up soon ....revised budget for our October trip and a mini report on our practice outing to get ready for Disney with a little kid...

And a big welcome home to Scrappie-Do and CP-Jackie...I'll pimp out their TR's here once they get a chance to start them :3dglasses

You are so adorable with your WDW pennant!

I can't wait to read more about your planning and you should post about DL!
