PTR for the planning obsessed....Updated 11/5 We're home now.

:rotfl2:

And did you notice that Sanka was the coffee offered???

I do remember the ashtrays on the armrests!!! I always wanted to play with them -- flipping them open and shut -- and it would drive my mom nuts!

Is Sanka de-caf?

I used to put my gum in them...those little ashtrays used to be all over in cars too.

I can't wait to see old pics from Disney 1984! I turned ten that year! :goodvibes

I was 10 in 1984 too!

Heidi,

thanks for taking a trip down memory lane....love it. My first trip was 1985 when I was 11 and remeber just little bits, still have a MK map, and a key chain that I bought, and on DS's shelf sits my little rubber Figment figurine. and maybe if it still exists in my parents attic or garage my orginal first Minnie Mouse stuffed animal. ::MinnieMo

I can't believe you have those Delta remants. We flew Delta too, first time on a plane for me as well. and I do remeber those little ashtrays :smokin: ...isn't that where we put our gum wrappers? :confused3 :rotfl:

Can't wait to see the pictures...are they as corny as mine? :goodvibes

PS I'm working on my "thank you post" for my PTR right now as well and as I was typing down your screen name (a thought that generally pops into my head...what does MRYPPNS stand for :confused3 ) it FINALLY dawns on me! DUH! Mary Poppins.... boy that sure took my brain a long time to figure out....;)

Hi Heidi! I love the 1984 TR so far - "Non-smoking section!" :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That's the one thing I don't miss with airlines....but I was one of the few people that actually liked the meals that they used to serve. Breakfast was the best.

I was 10 in 1984 too!

I still have my first pair of mouse ears from that trip!

I have a few more "remants" to share...they held up better then the photos

I guess my Location as 17 Cherry Tree Lane didn't help much either. My license plate on my car is MRYPPNS.

I can't believe you are leaving so soon!

The flight was fine…I think I took an air sick bag with me from the plane as a souvenir…weird child…I know!

We got a rental car…looks to be a compact (or smaller) from this picture.

Our hotel was off-site….oh the horrors! Well maybe not…I think the only Disney hotels in 1984 were Deluxes and the campground…my parents didn’t travel deluxe back in the day and they still don’t. And they certainly didn’t camp.

Here’s the motel pool in Kississimee.

I think it was a Days Inn or something like that. I don’t remember if I went swimming in it or not.

(Little note about the pictures in this mini TR. The quality is crap. I don’t know if the colors were always this bad or if it happened over the years. Most are not in focus. You will see only the best of what I have. Some I threw out. I know that we had 3 cameras with us on this trip. Both me and my mom had 110’s (remember those? the film was so tiny) and my dad had a 35mm. I know this because I have one picture of me and my dad and you can clearly see we each have a camera (dad’s was hanging around his neck like a true tourist) so my mother had to be taking the picture with a 3rd camera…like that bit of CSI there? I have found 2 sets of pictures…the ones from the 110’s. I have asked my father a few times for pictures from his camera…says he doesn’t have any.)

I don’t have any dinning reviews…only remember one meal from the whole trip. McDonald’s. And the reason I remember this meal? Well you see it’s part of the only story that my parents would repeat and repeat for years after this vacation. I am mortified by the story but I have to remember that it was a different time back then.

Coming Up Next: Why I remember that McDonald’s meal.

My parents ALWAYS stayed off-site when we went down there except for the one time we stayed at the Contemporary. They still talk about what a waste of money that was! :scared1: It was 1987 and they probably paid something outrageously low like $200 a night.

They still harp on the foolishness of us spending the money to stay on-site. I can't tell you how many times my dad has said, "What's wrong with a nice Holiday Inn in Kissimmee?"

They just don't get it. :sad2:

Can't wait for the McDonalds story.

It will be the next update...I have to work tomorrow so it might be a couple days.

There probably is nothing wrong with staying at a Holiday Inn but not for folks like us. We have countdown tickers for cryin' out loud. We take pictures of our suitcases and travel binders....we are just not the same as people who stay at the Motel 6. Now that's not to say that I won't ever stay off-site...I've been checking out the Marriot suites a bit, but any money saved would be used up by FDM so we could stay longer...do something bigger/better or just buy more things with Mickey on them!

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

You've hit the nail on the head with that one!

I "might" stay off-site someday, but I see myself staying value everytime before I give up on-site completely. It just doesn't seem like true-Disney if I have to leave the property everyday.

Somehow I just had a glimmer as to how cults with their own annexes get started...:scared:

Wow!! You've inspired me to call my mother for some 1983 pictures. I was 9 and my brother was 6. We actually drove all the way from NH with my brother and me in the back of a pick up truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1: It had a cap on it, but there was no opening between the front and back - we had to use a chalk board. If we had to go to the bathroom we would tap on the window with a coin and I would write a note on the chalk board! My mother made these cushions that we could make as a couch or into two beds! Can you even believe anyone would do such a thing! :confused3 We camped at Fort Wilderness. I HAVE to get some pictures. My other trips were with my best friend's family so I probably don't have pictures from then?? But I'll have to look.

We went on road trips all over the east coast when I was a kid and I don't think we ever wore a seat belt. My dad even made a little table in the backseat so I could sit on the floor in the back on one side and use the table on the other side to color.

I would love to see your 1983 pix! I have found my 1988 Disneyland pictures...now I just have to find my 2001 WDW album and hopefully those pix are on disc too somewhere so I don't have to scan them.

Update: I just emailed my Dad in hopes that he will really take a look around the house for the pictures from his camera. Wish me luck.
