14 days+ 10 day park hoppers + 15 family members= 1 Great vacation!
Seperately we are HeatherSue and TeresaJoy. Together, we are the Diser Sistas! We will be presenting you with a joint trip report, in two threads. Here's a link to Teresajoy's version: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1831417
A little background:
I was raised a Disney Lover. My family used to go to Disney World every year during Winter break. My parents took me to Disney for the first time in December of 1974- I was 4 weeks old! There are no pictures of this trip as my father didn't take pictures of his kids on vacation. However, we have lots of pictures like this:
and this:
We also have a LOT of pictures of these elephants:
This is the first Disney picture I know of that I am readily identifiable in:
Okay, now that we've established that my dad is not the best photographer, I'll introduce you to all of us.
Heather
: Me! 33 years old, stay at home mom. I worked as a nanny and at my mom's home day care before I had kids. I LOVE Disney!! But, as you will see, I am married to the Disney-hater. So, I don't get to go as often as I'd like. I also love to sew, read (but haven't read anything in a while), and watch tv (thought I'd be honest here).
Henry
: My husband, 33 years old, aforementioned Disney-hater. He paints cars for a living, builds houses on the side, and is a reserve police officer. Can you say work-a-holic? Went to Disney for the first time when he was 17 years old, with me and my parents. Hated it then, hates it now. Henry has all sorts of interests, but not a lot of time! He used to love to do indoor rock climbing and scuba diving. But, he hasn't done that since we had kids. He loves spending time with them over anything else. We've been together since we were 15 years old and he's the perfect husband for me (except for the whole Disney-hating thing). If you want to read about how we met (along with all sorts of other useless information), follow the link to my website in my siggy.
Tessa
: My daughter, 5 years old. She will be starting kindergarten in the Fall . She loves playing with her cousins, drawing, playing with My Little Ponies, being helpful, and Disney, of course! She wants to be a gardener and a ballerina when she grows up. Her first trip to Disney was when she was 14 months old. She was so stinkin' cute!
Sawyer
: My son, 23 months old. He loves playing with (and antagonizing) his sister, dancing, jumping, showing off his karate skillz, and being a sweet little cuddler. This is his first trip to Disney!!!
Mom
: Barbara, 64 years old. Mother of 3, grandmother of 7, retired from home day care and is now the overworked caretaker of my 90 year old grandma (she desperately needed this vacation). Mom and Dad live right next door to me. Mom is a child at heart and instilled her love of Disney on all 3 of us. She loves spending time with her grandchildren. She is the best Mom and Grandma in the world. Seriously!
Dad
: My dad, 64 years old. Retired GM employee. Loves collecting bicycles (has a basement FULL of them) and buying junk (oops, I mean treasures) on ebay and at garage sales. Says he'd rather vacation elsewhere, but I think he loves Disney deep down. He would do anything for anybody, but will grump about it first if it's for family. ,
David
: My brother, 41 years old. Janitor at a pharmaceutical factory. He loves playing video games, watching movies, and collecting action figures. I don't think he's actively buying action figures at the moment, but he has a basement FULL of them. (hmmmm, sounds familiar). My brother is...um...different. But, I love him. He shares our love of Disney and he goes to Disney World about every 3-4 years.
Barbara
: Or, Barbara Jr since she has the same name as my mom. My Sister-in-Law, 39 years old. She is a stay at home mom. Barbara loves to listen to country music, watch tv, and keep up on celebrity gossip. She calls me at least once a week with a juicy tidbit about a celebrity I've never heard of. She is one of the sweetest people I know. She was diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer (ductal carcinoma) several weeks before our trip. She put off having a mastectomy just so she could go. So, I'd say she's a Disney-lover.
Courtney
: (or Courtney Love as I so affectionately refer to her) My niece, David's daughter, 14 years old (turned 14 on our trip). Courtney loves to play video games and Goo Goo ball. She was 2 years old on her first trip to Disney and has been hooked every since.
Casey
: My niece, David's daughter, 10 years old. Casey also loves video games, Hannah Montana, and playing with her friends. Casey first went to Disney when she was 3 years old, I think. Just like the rest of us, she loves it!
Teresa
: My sister, 39 years old (oh, yes I did!). Teresa loves Disney just like the rest of us. She first went to Disney World the year it opened. How cool is that?! She is lucky enough to have a husband that also loves Disney, so she gets to go EVERY year! Teresa is also my best friend. We are WAAAY too much alike. This is a good thing most of the time, except that we're both always right. She is incredibly dear to me and I love her with all my heart.
Brian
: My brother-in-law, Teresa's husband, 48 years old. Brian is the manager at a grocery store. He likes hunting, fishing, nature, anything outdoors. The man even goes ice fishing on a regular basis. Now that's dedication! Brian first went to Disney with our family when he was in his late 20's. He pretends he'd rather vacation elsewhere, but we all know he loves it.
Corey
: My nephew, Teresa's son, 15 years old. Corey is the coolest teenage boy, EVER! I love this kid. He's still likes hanging out with his family. Right now he's really into photography and he takes amazing pictures. Corey's first trip to Disney was probably when he was a baby, but I don't remember for sure! He loves Disney so much, he sacrificed his coolness and all sense of fashion to wear red Disney crocs and Mickey ears on most days of our trip.
Arminda
: My niece, Teresa's daughter, 10 years old. Arminda is a little princess. She is a girly girl and loves all things princessy. She also loves High School Musical. One of her favorite people is Sawyer. She LOVES Sawyer!!! They have a special bond that is very sweet to see. Arminda went to Disney for the first time as a baby, too.
Lydia
: My niece, Teresa's daughter, 5 years old. Lydia is Tessa's best friend. They are exactly 3 months apart, with Lydia being older. Here are a few things about Lydia as told in Tessa's words "She likes pink and purple. She likes to plant flowers and she likes to play new songs. She likes to play with me and I think she's the best friend in the whole wide world." Lydia's first trip to Disney was when she was a baby, too. Teresa's kids are so lucky!
Our family is very close. I already mentioned that Mom and Dad live right next door to me. David lives about 3 minutes away. Teresa is really FAR away, it's a 20 minute drive to her house! My grandma lives with my mom, so she's right next door, too. She didn't go on the trip with us, which is a good thing, trust me on that. Anyway, we like to try to go to Disney as a family every 3-4 years. This was our 4th trip as a big 'ol family. I promise we'll actually start our travels in my next installment.
