Zip-a-dee-doo-dah road

I remember reading somewhere online (can't remember where now) that there's a road somewhere at WDW that has rumble strips that are designed so that if you drive over them at the speed limit, you hear zip-a-dee-doo-dah.

The story, if I'm remembering it right, is that some imagineer came up with the idea, and they built a test patch somewhere on WDW property. It's not a main road, more of a backstage one, but one that is accessible by the public.

The story I read said something about Disney wanting to patent and license the idea, the imagineer didn't, so they never ended up building this on the main drive as initially planned. The test strip is still around somewhere though.

Which leads me to my questions:

1) anyone else heard of this or know if it's true?
2) if so, where is it?!

There was a test done a while ago by some Imagineers, to determine whether this type of thing was actually possible. I think they got it pretty much to a working level, but it was never installed on any guest road on property. The only place I know if a set of these rumble strips being is on the airstrip at the STOLport, which is a cast-only area (and it's restricted even to cast ... you need permission to be there).

So, yes ... it's true. But no ... you can't drive on it.

:earsboy:

bummer... it sounded like fun, but I guess the info I had on it being guest accessible was inaccurate.

It sounds like such a cool idea, you'd think they'd put it on a main road somewhere.

See, thats the thing. If they put it on the main road, everybody would be trying it out- therefore encouraging speeding. Not a very good idea- for the safety of guests!

:)

too bad they couldn't put that on a road that only WDW buses could go on....that would be cool, on the way into MK to get to hear it.
