For those that have the Zhu Zhu's already and children have played with them, here are a few questions: Do you need the starter house/fun house to have all the accessories work (slide, garage, wheel) or can they work independantly? Which accessory is the best or the most fun for the kids?

Trying to fiqure out what you really need.....:confused3

Well, they really don't "do" anything, unless you have the accessories. Each accessory has some type of magnetic sensor, so that when the hamster goes over it, it identifies the magnet, and the hamster makes different sounds. I would definately say the funhouse would be the best choice if you were only getting one accesory, but the adventure ball is fun to watch it roll around the house.
Good luck!

All of the accessories except the ball need to be connected to the house so I would definitely get the house. I think DD's favorite is the car and garage. We do not like the wheel as it has never worked properly. The hamsters don't catch on the wheel and it doesn't spin.

Does the car and garage have to be connected to anything for it to work? Would a kid have fun with just the hamster and the car and garage to start out with?

like others said, the accessories are for the house, so without the house, they aren't useful. The hamsters do run around on their own without the house, but the house is good for containing them (otherwise, they wander all over the house like real rodents, lol).

In order to drive the car the hamster has to mover over the sensor in the tube going to it to "tell it what to do" . That would be really hard to do every time without it coming from the house as the sensor is right at the beginning of the add on.

So, the animals work (running around) by themselves. Right? I don't have any accessories.

Oh wow, thanks so much for posting that! I'd been considering returning the house & just keeping the garage but guess we'll keep both now. I didn't even think that it wouldn't work w/o the house! I don't think that's clear so I hope there are not a ton of disappointed kids that can get their accessories to work w/o a house.

I'm really confused after reading these posts. All I've been able to find is the slide. From what I understand after reading these, that will not even work if I don't have the fun house? I wasn't prepared to pay all this $$ for a hamster:eek:

I agree  I'm having second thoughts.

According to the website, you should be able to play with just the hamsters.

Right out-of-the-box you can hear it "chatter" and make its own silly noises when you press its nose...

If your Hamster is already "exploring" and running around, when it bumps its nose it will make a startled noise, and back-up out of the way, and then run off to explore some more!

When you want to cuddle with or "reward" your hamster, pet it on the head (right behind the ears... they like that a lot) Your hamster will chirp and purr and coo contentedly. These little furballs love it when you pet them... and they'll keep "talking" until they get bored and go to sleep.

To let your hamster know it's OK to run around and explore its environment, press it on its back and watch them go! Zhu Zhu Pets Hamsters love to run around and explore. If you want to calm them down, you can pat it on the head button to cuddle (and it will stop running) or you can press it on its back and you will hear your Zhu Zhu Pet Hamster yawn and then go to sleep.

I emailed Cepia the maker of Zhu Zhu pets - I bought just the car and garage. I emailed to ask if it would work without the main "fun house". Here is the response:

You can absolutely use the car and garage separately. The fun house just gives the garage something to connect to.

Thank goodness! :hyper:

Although you may be able to use the slide, the hamster won't go up the ramp unless it is either connected to the funhouse, or your child pushes it in the ramps' tunnel. It will not "find" the slide on it's own without the funhouse to be attached to.
All of the "funhouse accessories" are just that... accessories for the funhouse, not really accessories for just the hamsters.
Our 6 year old daughter got hers a few weeks ago, and has already told her friend she can have it.

OK Im confused -can I put the hampster in the car and have it drive???? And why wouldnt it go over the sensor if you put the silly thing right in front of it and have it go over it? I havent opened anything yet, so maybe Im missing something. My kids actually want them to run all over the house, thats why I didnt buy the funhouse. We have the ball, surfboard and car...please tell me this will be OK, lol.
