The "acting strange" (pawing and etc.) and the "bad start" (starting at the back of the pack), were both totally normal for Zenyatta. She just got outrun, by a good horse (though not the one I expected). Good race, and in all honesty, I'm not at all disturbed by the outcome. I like the fact that she's not invicible. It makes her a bit more "real" for this horse racing fan. My heroes don't have to be undefeated. Think Usain Bolt has never lost a race in his entire life? No, of course he has at some point, but it doesn't make him any less amazing.
Thanks Zenyatta, for all the memories, and for bringing horse racing to the forefront of the American consciousness. I have my doubts about your ability to be a good broodmare, but I invite you to prove me wrong.
That is...if you manage to stay retired this time.
