I posted this on a thread about cheap glasses, but since it seems a lot of people use them, I thought I would ask for other experiences and advice on what I can do.......

For all you have ordered from Zenni Optical, was it recently? I ordered 2 pairs for my son on December 19 and have yet to get them! I have called several times and was told they order them from China and once they get them, they ship them out to customers. Supposedly, mine were shipped from China on 12/22 and something went wrong and they were shipped back. They were shipped again on January 6, and still no word. I have called the last two days during their stated business hours and gotten a recording to leave message, then a recording that the mailbox is full. Now, I am wondering if they have gone out of business or what?! My son had to take his exams without glasses, and is having headaches without them. Zenni has my money, but I guess I will get glasses somewhere else.

I would NOT order from Zenni. My son's prescription is not a hard one, and no bifocals or anything. And when you call, even when someone is there, you will have a 20-30 minute wait to talk to someone. Besides, does anyone know for sure there isn't lead in their glasses, since they come from China? I saw the company was in California and had no idea they imported from China.

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience. I've always had excellent service from Zenni. You might try using email to contact them... many companies are difficult to contact via telephone but check their email regularly.

Regarding the glasses being from China, MANY products I use in my house are made in China... it's a fact of life these days that we've outsourced manufacturing to China.

If you don't get any response from Zenni, dispute the charge on your credit card.

Good Luck!

I have also had great service from Zenni Optical. Sorry to hear about the delays with your order. I think you should try eamil also.

I too have ordered from them and never had a problem. I am thinking that since their glasses are made in China that perhaps the office in CA is not a "office" persay and probably more like a in home office (kinda like a middleman, that has a contract with a plant in China) But the glasses were well made and although it did take a little longer the price was worth it.
I have noticed in my area the last few weeks that most of the eye glass places have been slashing their prices, just goes to prove what a high mark up there is on them.

Well, their website says for a faster and definite response to call, not email. I emailed yesterday and have heard nothing back from them. I am going to try and call again now...

UPDATE--Just called and they are now answering the phone again. I was told that the shipment was held up in customs and should be cleared by the end of the week, so we MAY get the glasses by the end of next week. If we like the glasses I think I will place an order immediately for 2 more pairs and maybe by the time I need them they will be here. Can't beat the price, but 6 weeks is a long time to wait, if they get here next week.

Oh and about them coming from China, many things in my home are made there as well, but I am thinking about kids wearing these on their faces, you know? Hopefully they don't have lead in them....

I had a nightmare experience with them back in the fall.

Long story short.....finally got glasses after about 2 months of being told they were stuck in customs, then the Rx is wrong and I can't even use them. They went in the trash.

I remember a thread on the budget board about people also having troubles with them.

Check over there, they might be able to help you out a bit more!

That might have been me, LOL. I posted on that thread but everyone else had glowing reports about them. I guess I am the LUCKY one!

I was about to suggest the same thing. I saw a thread on the BB about some people having trouble with a shipment of glasses not getting through customs.

I've ordered two glasses in the past, even returned one, (hated the style when I got it,) before ordering the other one. I had called up Customer Service & spoke to a real person in CA. Both pairs were great. I had a high prescription with an astigmatism and had to order the extra thin, high index lenses & an extra coating. They were well worth the $78 for each pair because of the high index lens. :thumbsup2 The exchange went smoothly, too.

Since then, I had Lasik surgery and was able to toss the glasses. If I need reading glasses, I'll reorder from them for an $8 pair. :)

we had a similar experience with my son's order. We ordered mid-October. By mid-December we still had no glasses. I went round and round trying to contact them. Usually I would get the full mailbox where I couldn't leave a message. We also tried emails, which just went unanswered. I finally got a person one day and all he would say is "well if you want I'll give you a 50% discount."

I was like -- a 50% discount for WHAT? Air? You've never sent any glasses! He still refused to refund.

I then just disputed the charge with American Express. It was for 3 pairs of glasses, around $100. When American Express contacted them they claimed that they shipped my glasses. They gave a delivery confirmation number that when you clicked on it said the "The Post Office Was Notified a Package Would Be Shipped" but never showed any actual delivery. American Express told them that they would have to show a signed delivery receipt or the charge would be refunded to me. I got a credit a couple days later.

Then to make it even better, I took my son to Lenscrafters and bought him a pair of glasses. Which he broke 2 weeks later.

I have ordered twice from them. The last time was in Dec. I had no problems with them.

I had to come back and post again, because ironically after posting this last night....

This morning I received a text from my son at College that he had an envelope from Zenni Optical in his mailbox this morning. He wanted to know if it was ok to open the package or if he should just mark return to sender on it and put it back. I told him to go ahead and open it up. All 3 pairs of glasses were there and he says they seem fine. So now I guess I need to contact American Express and tell them to put the charge back through. I don't mind paying for the glasses, I just wanted to actually receive the glasses.

So my review now says, well it took massive headaches and 3 months going on 4, but they did finally send the glasses and they are ok. :lmao:

Guess what came express mail this morning? And this is after I was told the glasses were held up in customs and they would email me when they were finally shipped. No email yet, and I was told by someone at Walmart optical that once something is held up in customs, they may hold it there for month. I ordered online from a second company for $29.95 TWO DAYS AGO! Ugh!

Anyway, the glasses are perfect and just like his original pair that cost $100(and that was a budget deal from the optometrist) Hopefully, with these two pair and the one on the way, DS will be set for glasses for a bit. For all three pair, I am out less than $50!

Marsha

Wow. Can you still try to cancel the $29.95 pairs?

Ordered them Wed or Thurs and they have already shipped. Should have ordered from them first and then the extra pairs from Zenni, LOL. It's not a big deal to me, as it will be nice to have spares. I am still a little tiffed that Zenni has their address as California and then they order from China and ship them to you. This other company is in USA and they are made here as well.

Add me to that list also!!! That is the exact same thing we did... in the trash they went.

I guess we are lucky in that sense, because these are almost the exact frames as we got at the optometrist, and the prescription is right too.
