WOW! After reading about Zenni Optical on the Disboards, and due to my wanting a pair of prescription sunglasses, as well as a cheap pair of regular glasses for our trip (I did not want to chance hurting my new "Dolce & Gabana" frames... I waited to long for them) I placed an order through Zenni! :goodvibes

They did have some cute frames online, and I went with styles similar to what I have/what I already know I like. I ended up ordering five pairs for myself (with one pair as sunglasses)! Five pairs shipped was only $82.00 total! Three of my "complete pairs" were only $8.00 each!

They arrived today (ordered on June 16th and today is the 25th). They did come in hard plastic cases, complete with a cleaning cloth. All of the glasses are perfect (prescription/PD wise), I can see perfectly!

I am going to order more soon (it is only $4.95 shipping, no matter how many pairs that you order at one time)... perhaps I can have a pair to match every outfit!:rotfl: I really like the plastic/acetate frames that are in style now and they have some cute ones! Granted... there is no name brand logo at the temple, but the frames are cute! :cutie:

My DH and DS were wanting the new memory titanium frames with lenses that change when you go outside/come inside. The ones I priced on Zenni for them will be less than $70.00 for a complete pair! They waited to order until mine came (hubby was really leery, he thought it sounded "to good to be true" (my $8.00 complete pairs of glasses) but he is pleasantly surprised and not a skeptic anymore!::yes::

If anyone is needing a "spare pair", take a peek at Zenni Optical... it's worth it! :thumbsup2

I've been reading about this and kept wondering, skeptical no matter how much I read to the contrary. Thanks for posting this. What kind of prescription do you have on your glasses? I'm myoptic (sp?). I think that's the term? And nearsighted. Is there any price change for the different levels of prescription? I've interested to hear.

Hi! You are welcome!

Both of my eyes are nearsighted and have astigmatism, although the prescription is not the same in both eyes.

I called my regular optician and ask for my PD number (actually for all three of us) and they gladly provided.

DH about had a fit when I ordered five pairs, he was hesitant and felt one pair was "chancey" and five pairs was... well... foolish! :rotfl: He was pleasantly surprised today and ready to order his! :goodvibes I did call the BBB first to check on Zenni and also bought a Chase Visa Debit (put $100.00 on it, used it instead of our credit cards or "real" debit card).

I read on the Zenni website that if your prescription is "off the chart" strong, there is an upcharge (of a few dollars, I do not remember the exact amount) but mine is strong (I cannot see at all without glasses on or contacts in, everything is a colorful blur) and it did not cost more. I know bifocals cost more, lenses that change cost more, and tints are all $4.95... but still it is very cheap!

If you are curious, but hesitant... find an $8.00 pair and try it, I hope you would end up being as pleased as I am! :thumbsup2

Now don't get me wrong... I will be heading back to my optomistrist yearly and will get my "higher end" pair there, but still will use Zenni when I need/want a spare/new style/different color, and so on! ;)

what are your sunglasses like? I o nly saw the one the ones that came with the glasses. I am looking for sunglasses. thanks

I just got my new optical RX last week. I remembered this thread and was waiting for an update.

Which D&G lookalike frames did you get. What is the frame number?

I'm considering buying two pair just to try out and if I don't like them get a pair at Costco.

AFAIK, you buy regular type frames and just order a tinted lens. I'd wait for the OP though.

Hi! :) I just found a pair of frames on Zenni that I liked and then applied the 80% "gray" tint @ $4.95 extra (believe me it is a sunglass tint, it is dark)! You can make any pair of glasses a pair of sunglasses, you simply find a pair of frames you like and then choose an 80% tint (many colors, there is a question mark help button that will open up when clicked and show you the available colors and variations). For my sunglasses I chose this frame: http://zennioptical.com/cart/product.php?productid=870&cat=10&page=1 (scroll to the bottom of page for a larger view and all colors available) and ordered it in white. They are awesome, they are white with thin black lines going around the frame/temple, it matches the dark tints on the lenses perfectly! I am thrilled with them! :goodvibes These were far more expensive :rotfl: than my first three $8.00 pairs with clear lenses, they did cost $23.95 after the tint (they are a $19.00 pair of frames), but I still feel they are a bargain! :goodvibes

Hi! :goodvibes My $8.00 pairs, from the front, look alot like the D&G frames! We held them (one on top of the other and they are very close style wise, the main difference I noticed (and it is not much) is the D&G extend a bit out of the side (well that and the $8.00 ones have flowers at the side/temple area while the others have a silver D&G on each side). Don't get me wrong, the D&G are heavier and I am sure more durable than the Zenni, but for $8.00 they are cute!:cutie: I bought this frame: http://zennioptical.com/cart/product.php?productid=535&cat=20&page=1 (please scroll to the page bottom for a larger picture and color choices). I bought 15, 18, and 21 (brown, black, and scarlet/black). For my sunglasses I chose the white version of this frame: http://zennioptical.com/cart/product.php?productid=870&cat=10&page=1 and my other (and most expensive frame) are these: http://zennioptical.com/cart/product.php?productid=988&cat=13&page=1 (in brown). This pair seems the most durable, has spring type hinges and they are cute, but probably my least favorite of all five pairs. I am pleased with all however, I have no regrets and am ordering more tommorrow! I love the thought of wearing them without worry, of their being cheap to replace if something were to happen, not worrying about taking a catnap in them, and having a pair to match all my outfits! :goodvibes

Too funny. I looked at all these frames and they are on my list. We must have similar taste.

Oooo! Thanks for this info! :thumbsup2 I'm heading to the eye doctor in a couple of weeks...don't really need a new pair, but it's always good to have a back up pair since I can't see without contacts of glasses. So, now I'll be able to keep a spare pair at work!!! (and in the car, and in my purse, and....LOL)

I have a pretty bad prescription, I got a pair of glasses a few months ago and had to pay quite a bit extra to get the thinner lenses.

Do they offer thinner lenses? I don't want to go around wearing a pair of coke bottle glasses.

I ordered a pair of sunglasses and regular glasses. I'm excited to find out if this is for real! :rotfl2: If so, Lens Crafters won't be getting my business any longer.

Can you PLEASE help me - i'm about to order two of the 8.00 glasses for my 8yr old son the prescription is below - he has astigmatisim but my question is i just got his PD measurement from the optical store and its 54/52 - which # do i use?

thanx

I would call Zenni Optical and ask them. Or ask them if you can just fax in the prescription instead of trying to fill out their boxes.

If your son needs to wear the glasses full time then you would use 54. If he just needs them for reading then you would use 52.

I work in an optometric practice btw! Hope that helps!

The lenses they sell for their base lenses are considered mid-index and are not the thin lenses. They do offer a hi-index lens it looks like for an upgrade of $37.00. This is what you would want to go with for a higher rx.

Also keep in mind that these lenses are not polycarbonate which is an impact resistant lens. I would not put a child in them especially an active child as most are! If a ball or anything hit them the lens could break.

Just my 2 cents!
