Zach/Zack?

My son is a Zachory. (Yes I mispelled it ON purpose.) He prefers Zack. It really depends on who spells it. His teachers spell it Zack but on all of his baseball uniforms it has Zach. He doesn't seem to mind though. It does get interesting around here though because his best buddy's name is Jack.

We use Zach for my DS. Before he was born I casually asked DH what he thought and he insisted it be spelled as Zach because Zack looked "angry" to him with the K. Not completely sure what he meant but because he had a strong opinion and I had none that's what we went with. Some people do assume its Zack but no one has ever called him Jack.

DD12 would tell you to spell it Zak. She loves Zak from Ghost Adventures and this is how he spells it, so that would get her vote.

My DS, 15, is Zac. Works well and it is also his initials !

Our Zac is now 16 years old. He went by Zachary until about 4th grade. Many of his friends were already calling him Zac. So we let him choose how he wanted to spell his own name. Now how cool is that for a child? Almost like getting to pick your own name!

My choice was Zach. His was Zac, and Zac he is.

As for people "always" shortening a name this is not true. Zac has friends named, "Michael, Christopher, Steven...." Even their friends do not shorten their names. In fact it's the adults who often shorten the name. It was Zac's karate coach who called him Zac.

If Zac didn't like Zac he would have corrected him, like his friends did.

Our Jacob is still Jacob. He introduces himself as Jacob. Same thing some people call him Jake. He really doesn't care.

Zachary looks for sophisitcated IMO. Zack looks like you don't know how to spell.

Well.. my DS 11 is a zachary and he goes by ZACK... he actually gets mad when people spell it with an "h"...lol

Our oldest is named Zakary and his nickname is spelled Zak. We tweaked it a little from the normal.

That is how it looks- like it would be pronounced Zach (the CH having the same sound as Chair)....I don't like it that way at all- looks odd.
