But regarding the "nearing retirement" thing. Teachers in this state were required to teach 35 years in order to get their full retirement. I only thought of this because I had the most wonderful science teacher became a lousy teacher toward the end. Parents that dealt with him said a huge problem was that he couldn't hear anymore. I'm not saying that's an excuse, but I don't know what the answer would be in this case. But in Christine's situation...that teacher just sounds like an awful person.
I do think that there are some age/health-related issues with this man that may be affecting his behavior. My DD tells me that he "wets himself." I know, I know, you really didn't want to hear that. I don't know anyone who had him long ago, so I cannot say whether he was once a good teacher. I have to sort of believe that he probably was at one time. He just seems sort of bitter now. And I'm sure he's had his time with unruly kids. He seems very cynical towards all the kids.
Sometimes, it's the only way to get through!
Wow, I would have been speechless. I mean, what do you say to a comment like that!
What can you say to something like that?
