...for additional security screening.

Entered the parks a total of nine times earlier this week.
"Randomly" selected for the metal detector three times; once each at EP (no bags line), DHS (bag check), and MK (bag check).
Only once did I leave my phone behind.

Why can't I have that luck for other events?

I read a trip report recently that said they had been selected 6 of 11 of their park entrances for the "random" security checks. Seemed odd that it was so many times for the same person! Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket.

8 days I was picked 5 times at 3 parks. I was hoping for a 4 park set, but alas AK did want to detect me. I am the one with the bags, they search through them, they talk to me, they ask questions .... and I still get picked. Both DS went bagless and were never picked, even on days with bulky jackets. 8-)

We were there over Presidents Weekend and I was selected three times and my daughter's boyfriend twice. Have to say each time the "guards" were really wonderful...very Disney-like! The last one give me the "by a lotto ticket" line when I told him it was my third time. Only hiccup I had with security all week was the fellow doing bagcheck the day I came from Trader Sam's from an afternoon cocktail. He wasn't sure if I could bring my souvenir mug in because it was technically glass but immediately offered to call his supervisor over to check. I got the sense he was fairly new to the job. I wasn't concerned and figured if the supervisor said no, hopefully he would just escort me to guest services and let me leave it there. Waited a few minutes, thinking "he did call someone right? I did see him speak into the wire on his collar, right?" only to realize the supervisor was standing behind us with a confused look on his face as though he couldn't spot the scary lady he'd been called about. I finally realized he was the guy I'd been waiting for and told him what the possible issue was. Big heavy sigh and said "you're fine" and off I went...

On our recent trip my DH was selected at least 4 times. Always when he had our yellow drawstring backback on. I was never selected. The first time was funny- DS asked me why they want to put dad in jail!!! Then it became the joke that he was going to jail and would "see us when he made bail"

We've been in and out of the parks for 5 days and my wife and I have each been selected once. Next time, just for fun, turn and run. lol

I did (sorta.)

I had been "randomly selected" about 4 times (different parks/same parks) in 5 days.
It was a COLD WINDY night with showers in the area, and we were hopping into MK, we were tired.
I had just unzipped our large backpack (7 zippers… Seven) and the security guard checked every (very full) cavity thoroughly.
I had then just RE-ZIPPED all 7 zippers (hard to do without a place to sit the bag down.)
My wife had just had HER bag searched and was re-zipping it (just 3 zippers.)

I had my (partly-metal) cell phone security case threaded onto my belt
and various other chotchkies (3" pocket knife, comb, pocket change, etc) tucked into various pockets.
We had on LAYERS of clothes (shirt, cloth sweatshirt jacket, nylon windbreaker) and

A 20-something gal in a "Security" jacket came bounding over and said, "Sir, you have been randomly selected to…"
I said, "NO!"

I was too tired to "empty your pockets and put everything in this box."
(Which would have required me to take off my belt and unthread the phone case.
Which would have required me to unzip jackets and reconfigure about everything I had on.)

Security gal restated, "But sir all we want to do is…
I said, "This has happened to me FAR too many times to be "random" and I'm too tired to go through this
again tonight."
She reiterated, but sir…
I said, "No! I'm just going to LEAVE and forget the whole thing!"
(My wife was shadowing this whole thing.)

We turned right, and walked quickly and directly to the MK "no bags" entrance/exit (security guards there, too, of course,)
and we just disappeared into the crowd.

About a minute later, we both entered the bag-check queues again, had the bags checked (10 zippers, total) and walked,
unmolested, through the MK tap-styles.

Moral of the story, either don't mess with Robo when he's cold and cranky or offer him a snickers bar and see if he changes into Mickey Mouse.

I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but the way this plays out in my head is super-funny. WDW uber-fan makes mad dash to avoid strip search revealing Mickey ear hat, pin lanyard, bag of magic bands. . .

There's been a recall on snickers. ;)

I definitely wasn't randomly selected. I had a poofy Flyer's winter coat on and looked like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. It just took a few seconds.

My husband wasn't randomly selected either. His cargo pants pockets were bursting with stuff. It took him FOREVER to empty his pockets. I didn't know he could carry so much stuff in his pockets! It took him a good 5 minutes or more to get through. And I was laughing so hard every time he brought more stuff out of his pockets. I don't need to carry a backpack or purse, his pockets had enough room for everything.

Everybody around the DIS knows me too well.

Hah!

Admittedly I don't actually picture you with a Mickey ear hat (glow with the show ears, maybe?) a pin lanyard, customized t-shirt (with one of your maps on it?), and a selfie stick to capture all your magical moments, but there has to be SOMETHING zipped up in all those backpack pockets. . . Trinkets to Pixie Dust other visitors with?

4 parks over 3 days, and one time through metal detectors. No biggie, I had no bags, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I made the security guy laugh and he gave me an honorary "Junior Security" sticker. I tried using it at the airport but they still made me pass through security.

I can neither confirm nor deny all or part of your description…

:ssst:

I have a feeling that my DH will be "randomly" selected for the extra checks multiple times on our trip next week. He will not be feeling the disney magic :(

He gets "randomly" selected for extra security checks at every airport we ever go to. We never have figured out what it is about him that always makes him a target for the extra checks.

Which reminds me that my wife and I got (without any prompting from us) the "TSA Pre" designation (CLICK) at the airport.
We had a very short wait in line and got to keep our shoes on!

So much nicer to be "randomly selected" for that, than to have to disrobe at the WDW gates.
