Your ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE to Disney World at Christmas Time! UPDATE x2 10/21

You are so sweet :) thank you so much! I will definitely continue to follow along!

You're very welcome! Enjoy your wedding and the rest of the trip report!

Hate to break it to ya, but I was born in the very early 80's and fondly remember my Lite Brite! :teacher: :rotfl2:
Love your updates, your pics are great.

HAHAHA well I'm a frump. I edited the post so it's correct. :lmao: It has been a while, clearly. Thank you very much!

Yeah, me too! :lmao:

Bummer about the dry cookie...it looked SOOO good! Thanks for the tip though...paying $7 for a sub-par cookie would be hard to swallow (pun intended! :thumbsup2).

That picture of the MK entrance area....:scared1: YIKES! You guys were very wise to avoid the MK!

It's all edited!

Yeah... it looked so pretty and it was SO dry! I was really sad.

Yeahhh that was INSANE. I was just laughing when I saw it!

I am sorry the gingerbread cookie wasn’t good. Kind of a waste of $7, but like you said, you didn't know. It looks yummy, but I guess not.

I love all of the little details on the gingerbread house. So cute!

I’m glad you made that man’s day a little better!

The Grand Floridian is gorgeous!

Holy…those Magic Kingdom crowds are INSANE!

I am in love with Contemporary light art. Haha it does remind me of the Lite Bright!

That's what I thought too. Oh well.

So do I! And I agree!

YEAH I'm glad I didn't go!

I'm glad you thought so too!

Jess, I do believe you should become a Disney tour guide...you take us on the most amazing journeys through the World! :cloud9:

I absolutely love seeing you and your family wearing shorts and capris on Christmas Day...only at the Happy Place!

Aww thank you so much! That would be a dream come true! :goodvibes

Haha isn't it great!? I was so happy!

Funny story about the gingerbread house...My fiance and I were in WDW Dec. 2010 and we took a whole day just going from resort to resort looking at all the fabulous decorations. When we got to the GF, I was completely in awe of the gingerbread house. I NEEDED to buy a cookie, so I went up to the little store and grabbed a pretty tree shaped cookie that was decorated with pretty edible pearls and things like that. Now, mind you, I was in a complete daze because of the amazingness of the house, so I didnt really look at the prices. After paying, my fiance turns and says to me, " You do realize that you just pent $17.00 on a cookie, right?", me, "...wait...what?!". I went back to look at the prices and sure enough, it was a $17.00 cookie. The really funny part, I dont really even like gingerbread, and like you said, it was dry and flavorless. We laugh about it now, but at the time it wasnt so funny :)

Aww did you!? That's so fun! Hahaha I totally have done stuff like that before. It really stinks that it didn't taste good either! Aww haha. At least you found the humor in the situation.

The Christmas decorations at the resorts are fabulous! And that gingerbread house is super impressive! I'm totally reliving my Christmas 2010 trip through reading yours!

That story about the old man who didn't have anyone to spend Christmas with really got to me! I'm glad you and your mom were there to talk to him for a few minutes, I'm sure it brightened up his day!

I agree! Everything was beautiful! Haha aww I'm so glad!

I know, that broke my heart. I'm sure it did too - he was so happy to chat! Disney really brings people together.

Oh lawd. $7 for a cookie? I don't even know what Disney is thinking sometimes. That's sooo disappointing that it didn't taste as good as it looked!

Oh my God break my heart with that story about the old man who has no one to spend Christmas with. :( At least you guys could brighten his day a bit.

I feel the same way! I could wander around that place for hours and not get bored.

Aww! Tinkerbell on the floor! I've never noticed that before.

hahahaha yeah, NO on the whole crowds thing. I can't even... WHY would you do that to yourself. Especially on a day meant for peace and joy. Whew.

I love the Small World theme at the Contemporary, that is so cute!

I LOVED LITE BRITE. I used to do that allllll the time. and that Mickey art is SO AWESOME. I want it in my house so bad.

I know. I should have known better... but I thought it would be worth the $7! I guess not.

Ugh that was so sad. I'm glad that he had Disney to go to, though. It's the solution to any sad situation.

Same here! I just really love the Disney resorts. I have way too much fun looking around.

Someone posted a picture like that tinkerbell in the floor but it was a Mickey! (Was it you or Kristen or Kara? Probably one of you frumps) But I thought it was so cute! Gotta love the details.

I know, it's not even worth it. I have no idea why so many people choose to go there on Christmas!! You would think they would know better.

I agree! That was clever.

Haha aww I remember my little kit. I wish I still had it.

I love all your pictures of the Grand Floridian! That place is seriously gorgeous! Its such a shame about the gingerbread cookies. I've heard from so many people how bad they are. I made sure not to get any on my last trip. I've heard the ones at the Confectionary are good though...which doesn't make sense, considering they should all be the same.

Thank you! I completely agree. I know, what a disappointment! Oh really? Hmmm I wish I could have tried one of those. But then again there are so many things I would choose over gingerbread. Ah well.

Wow! MK looks crazy busy. I was in AK on Christmas day before and I found the crowds there pretty manageable. We were able to ride EE 5 or 6 times. We were also able to get a table at the Rainforest Cafe without an ADR.

I know right!? Yeah if I went to a park on Christmas Day it would be Animal Kingdom. It would be so much less crazy!

WHITE CHOCOLATE COVERED OREO??? Jess, what were you thinking?!?!? Hahha... it's cool. Next time. ;)

Omg, break my heart old man. :( I hope Disney cheers him up. Beautiful GF pictures. I'm telling ya, you have an eye for photography!!

I know that MK is the most magical park and all, but I do not understand why people flock to it on the busiest days. After all... they're the BUSIEST DAYS. They would have a much more enjoyable day if they weren't fighting mobs of people the entire time. Ehh, oh well. What can ya do?

Dang, when I was there two weeks earlier all I could find was stinking 2012 merch! I was like, hello all, we're not quite done with 2011 yet. I just wanted a photo album. SIGH.

The Contemporary wins, ONCE again. LITE BRITE. I want to play with a Lite Brite right now. OMG. BLT. (How'd that get in there?)

I KNOW, RIGHT!? I clearly was not thinking at all.

Aww I know I felt terrible. And thanks girl! I'm glad you think so!

Seriously, people either don't think or don't do their research. It's just not a smart place to go on Christmas!

Oh really? LOL clearly I was not paying attention. Either that or I forgot to take a picture until that point!

I KNOW RIGHT!? Gotta love it.

If the cookie was $7, how much were the decked out gingerbread houses? $700? :rotfl:

That rug reminds me of Aladdin. I don't know why, but it just screams "Aladdin and Jasmine's palace" to me.

I love all of the poinsettias outside of the Grand Floridian. They really pop against the white of the buildings.

I don't understand why people would even bother with the Magic Kingdom on Christmas day. It looks like fuIn for no one. I mean, I understand that some people can only vacation at certain times of the year (that's why I roast myself to a point of near heat exhaustion every summer), but go to Animal Kingdom or something on Christmas. Save yourselves, people!

HAHAHA seriously though!! I don't even want to know. I wish I had that kind of money laying around so I could just buy random stuff like that.... like ridiculously overpriced gingerbread houses. I wonder if they even sold one!

I could definitely see that!!

So do I! Everything matches so nicely lol. Poinsettias look great at the Magic Kingdom too!!

I agree! People need to plan a little bit better!

Hmm... I'm wondering if you just got a bad batch, or if the Mickey shaped cookies may just taste different. My friend and I have gotten the gingerbread shingle cookies before, and they were delicious! In fact... This is making me crave one now! lol

Hmmm who knows! I'm a little jealous lol. I wish mine was good!

Grand Floridian looks amazing!!!!! I can not wait to see all those wonderful decorations!! My mom and I have afternoon tea their for her 65th Birthday so I will make sure we take time to look at the decorations!

It's so funny to me how crowded the Magic Kingdom looks in your picture! My mom and sister and I had dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern on Christmas Day, and the park was practically dead. Believing the place would be insane all day, we decided we would go JUST for dinner, so we arrived shortly before our reservation. There was practically no one else on the boat from the TTC, a small line at security (no worse than a regular day), and by the time we got back to liberty square we were like, "Where the heck is everybody?!" We mentioned it to a couple cast members who all said it was CRAZY busy in the morning and then around 1-2pm it practically cleared out! So after dinner we stayed and saw the fireworks and the parade and then closed the park. It was awesome! All the cast members said it was VERY unusual though.

But because that was so great, we had the complete opposite on New Year's Eve; we went to Epcot for like 45 minutes and then left. Soarin was a 4 hour wait, the booze lines were miles long, and people were just sitting everywhere, grass, walls, even on the paved walkway. It was NUTS.

The Grand Floridian is my dream resort! Thus, I LOVE all your GF pictures!!!

That Gingerbread House at the GF looks amazing! Did it say anywhere how long it took to make it???

Too bad your cookie was not yummy :( I'm thinkin' that white chocolate covered oreo would have been DELICIOUS!!

THOSE CROWDS AT MK! OMG! Never in my life would I brave that crowd. Speaking of brave, have you seen the new movie Brave, yet? Its WONDERFUL!!! I cried!

Great update Jess...your twitter conversation with the girls was too funny :lmao: I would love to stay at a monorail resort one day...I know I say that every time but just reading your updates always reminds me. Looking forward to more. -Amanda

First off... I see that your little banner thing under your username says something about VMK. Did you used to play that game?! I did and I LOVED it. I'm still heartbroken that it's gone. :sad1:

YES, I played VMK! I can't believe it's gone, and part of me still hopes that Disney will bring it back even if it means starting all over again. I had just gotten up to the point where I had traded for the Jack Sparrow hat, the princess Minnie hat (my favorite!), and Inferno magic, but if they started it up again, I wouldn't even care having to begin as a new character once again. I was getting pretty gosh darn good at the Fireworks game, loved playing Haunted Mansion with my best friend who is now my DH, and hated playing Pirates because I couldn't steer and shoot cannons for my life.

To this day, I STILL mope about it when I'm reminded of it. Once in a blue moon, I'll go to vmkrevisited.com and go into all the rooms to listen to the music, but then I have to stop because I get upset pointing out all the places that my DH and I used to hang out. In real life now, we go on Peter Pan and think about VMK because we used to ride it in game together (too bad there's no Sword in the Stone magic pin after the real ride!). VMK is why I found the DIS. When they closed it, I felt like I lost all my DIS friends because that was the part of the boards that I knew! Thank goodness for the trip report section!

I didn't realize my new TR bumped this link off of my signature, but after it closed, I printed out my avatar and my DH's avatar and laminated them to bring them around the real world. I started this thread - The Flat Adventures of Weird and Ninja!. I still miss it so much!

Gosh, you were right! Those crowds at MK are just unbelievable! I think I'd panic if I were in a park with that many people. When I hear that certain parks are closed because they reached maximum capacity during the holidays, I feel claustrophobic even from home! I love WDW, but I don't think I could deal with feeling that much like a sardine (and I'm used to going during Easter week!).

LOVE LOVE your resort pics! Your Mickey Santa hat is too cute, btw!!
I'm sorry the cookie wasn't very good! It looked like it had promise, and it should have been awesome for $7 hahaha!

That chocolate dipped oreo looks fab, though! Maybe they'll have that in November, if so, I'm on it!

Great updates!:thumbsup2

The Gingerbread house looked awesome! Too bad your cookie wasn't good.
So sad about the man who was by himself - that's so heartbreaking.
Your pictures at GF, particularly the 1st one are SO beautiful!!!! I just really love the winter sky in Florida.
WOW:eek: The Magic Kingdom looked scary! I hope people don't go there with huge expectations because they are going to be disappointed. You guys were smart spending the day the way you did.

Grand Floridian looks amazing!!!!! I can not wait to see all those wonderful decorations!! My mom and I have afternoon tea their for her 65th Birthday so I will make sure we take time to look at the decorations!

It was so beautiful! I'm so excited for you! Ahh I have never done the tea but it seems lovely! Have a wonderful time!

Are you serious!?!?! Hahaha that's the weirdest thing! People probably rush there in the morning and then peter out by night time.

Oh wow! That's insane. I could imagine how crazy it is! And just think... Epcot is that park that can fit the most people! That's disgusting!

The Grand Floridian is my dream resort! Thus, I LOVE all your GF pictures!!!

Haha thank you! I hope you get to stay there someday!

It actually didn't! (as far as I remember) However, they have that display every year, so it probably isn't too bad. Clearly they put a lot of time and effort into it!

I KNOW! I was disappointed. Aww I know I really wanted that. :( I should have just stuck with my instincts.

I KNOW. That just wouldn't be a good idea. And AHHH Kristen and I are going tonight!!!! I'm so so so excited!

Great update Jess...your twitter conversation with the girls was too funny :lmao: I would love to stay at a monorail resort one day...I know I say that every time but just reading your updates always reminds me. Looking forward to more. -Amanda

Haha oh thank you! Monorail resorts are exceptional! I hope you get to sometime soon! Thank you!

It just sickens me that they spent SO much time creating it and now it's just gone. It absolutely breaks my heart. I wish they would have kept it and made it "pay to play" or something. It seriously was the most magnificent creation. Ugh I'm so sad. This conversation is reminding me of how much I miss it. I had all of those hats and the inferno magic and everything! AHHH I just loved them. Ughhh why is it gone?! Awww that's so adorable that you played HM with your DH! Were you guys friends in real life or did you meet on VMK?

To this day, I STILL mope about it when I'm reminded of it. Once in a blue moon, I'll go to vmkrevisited.com and go into all the rooms to listen to the music, but then I have to stop because I get upset pointing out all the places that my DH and I used to hang out. Yup, that's how I feel right now. Haha aww that's so sad. Whenever I go on the Haunted Mansion and see the hidden Donald chair I always think of it. I think VMK is why I found the DIS too! Seriously - thank goodness!

I didn't realize my new TR bumped this link off of my signature, but after it closed, I printed out my avatar and my DH's avatar and laminated them to bring them around the real world. I started this thread - The Flat Adventures of Weird and Ninja!. I still miss it so much!

I KNOW. They were disgusting. I would never even want to be there, it just wouldn't be fun. The resorts are never crowded though so it's really nice! There are plenty of things to find at Disney to do that don't involve suffocating in the parks!

What a great way to spend Christmas! You and your Mom have the same hand on the hip pose! :) Love it!

Thank you! And hahaha yeah we do. That's funny!

LOVE LOVE your resort pics! Your Mickey Santa hat is too cute, btw!!

I know... I was so sad!
Ugh I wish I could have eaten it! If you have the chance to, please do!
Thank you!

It was SO pretty! I know, I was so sad.
That seriously broke my heart. I hope that he ended up having a nice day and treated himself to a nice Christmas meal.
Aww thank you so much! The clouds were PHENOMENAL on both of my december trips! The pictures still just blow me away!
I know. WOW. I just laughed when I saw it. We had such a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas!

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
My very first trip to Disney World when I was 6, we were there! :sad2: It was before we knew how crazy it was, and it kind of turned my parents off to Disney :sad1:
Now whenever we go they always compare it to that and the crowds never seem too bad! :rotfl:

Awww that's so adorable that you played HM with your DH! Were you guys friends in real life or did you meet on VMK?

We were already friends in real life. I was talking about it when I first signed up, and he signed up too! Oh the memories ...

Hate to break it to ya, but I was born in the very early 80's and fondly remember my Lite Brite! :teacher: :rotfl2:
Love your updates, your pics are great.

I was born in 1971:eek: and I remember my Lite Brite. I looked it up and turns out it was created by Hasbro in 1967.:teacher:

Great updates Jess! I have got to get to WDW at Christmas time one of these days. That Gingerbread House is amazing!:)

So...the gingerbread house sold nasty gingerbread? I love the irony! :rotfl:

Oh Lord, those MK crowds...no thank you. I'm sure you laughed as you rode by them on your wonderfully comfortable and relaxing monorail.

Your resort pictures are so amazing. Seriously, the monorail resorts are so beyond words. I CAN'T WAIT TO STAY AT ONE. Next summer! :woohoo:

Hey! I just read through this entire trip report and I'm loving it! You are hysterical. I'm taking my family to WDW from Dec 25-31. I feel like I am CRAZY looking at the crowd pictures, but it's the only way to do it with my work schedule, plus it's the kids christmas gift ;) I cant wait to read more because you are giving me lots of planning ideas! Also I will definetly be tuning in for your DL trip report because we are doing that next year (hopefully). My goal is to run the princess 1/2 marathon in Feb and then run the half at DL in Sept so I can get a Coast to Coast medal :cool1: So here I am... Cant wait to read more popcorn::
-Jess

I bought a gingerbread cookie last time we were there and felt the same way. It was not what I was expecting and I thought the same thing. " I paid $7 for this??" :confused3

That picture of the Christmas Day crowd is wow! We usually go Thanksgiving week to get the best of both worlds, a holiday vacation and experience Christmas decorations. The crowds aren't that bad early in the week.

Can't wait to read more!

Haha at least it always will seem less crowded to you now!

Hahaha oh boy. I clearly don't know what decade anything is from :lmao: I just edited out the whole year in my update! Sorry about that.

Thank you! Yes, you definitely do! Everything was unbelievable!

YES! How frumpy.

I know, seriously. There are so many other things you can do in Disney World that don't involve suffering through those crowds. Everyone likes to have a resort day... so Christmas Day is a good day for that!

Thank you so much! They seriously are! YAYAYAY I'm excited for you!!

Did you really!?! Aww thank you so much! I'm glad that it kept you entertained all the way through! You know what... Christmas week wasn't as bad as I thought. The crowds look scary, but if you plan it right, you'll be fine. Just don't expect to go on a lot of rides and make lots of dining reservations! And aww yay Disneyland! 50 days until I go! :yay: Wow, that's fantastic! I hope you get to do it! Thanks for being here!

I bought a gingerbread cookie last time we were there and felt the same way. It was not what I was expecting and I thought the same thing. " I paid $7 for this??" :confused3

Hahaha seriously. It stinks!

I know, it's crazy. Thanksgiving is definitely better than Christmas day, that's for sure!

Thanks for reading!

Love your thread! Disneyworld at Christmas is on my bucket list so I'm going to brave the crowds but I did book Christmas Dinner at Kona for a bit of escape and tour of the resort. Honestly can't wait!!! Looking forward to hearing more from your trip!

Chapter 65: Spending Christmas Day by the Pool!
December 25th, 2011

I was in photography mode, so get ready to see lots of pictures of the Contemporary and Bay Lake! (how terrible, right? LOL)

dsc0050yc.jpg

Here's a picture of the door we come from/go to when we use the bridge connecting Bay Lake and the Contemporary!

dsc0053he.jpg

The elevator doors have Hidden Mickeys on them! How cute! I seriously love how they always incorporate so many Hidden Mickeys into the newer resorts. It just makes them that much better!

dsc0052bi.jpg

Seriously, gotta love this rug! I wish I had it in my house.

img1236r.jpg

We got back to the room and I was still snapping pictures of everything. Of course, my eye was drawn to the beautiful view once again. When you see that amazing weather, can you believe that it was actually Christmas day!?

dsc0054oli.jpg

I took a picture of my new pins from that morning! The first was an "It's a Small World" pin I traded for in the Grand Floridian gift shop! Then the Mickey Ears pin was one that I traded for in the Polynesian gift shop with my new DCP friend!

dsc0056cb.jpg

Our plan for the day was to go to the pool! So I got changed and headed towards our beautiful destination:

dsc0055bb.jpg

But not without stopping for a few pictures!

dsc0057kr.jpg

HEAVEN. ON. EARTH.

dsc0058zw.jpg

Then we finally arrived at the pool! JUST LOOK AT IT UP CLOSE!! I pretty much died of happiness. Again.

dsc0059me.jpg

We found a group of chairs and I took a picture of our view:

dsc0060gl.jpg

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

dsc0061bm.jpg

I laid out in the sun ON CHRISTMAS DAY. Was that even real life?!!? I still don't even know.

Dad and I played two games of ping-pong. The table had a metal net which we both found interesting. Dad beat me both times because, clearly, I am not a sportsy girl. Even if though it's PING-PONG and that's not really a sport... it's still a game. I just don't have a competitive bone in my body. Except for when it comes to Toy Story Mania, of course. Or Disney Scene It. I'm a pro at that game.

ANYWAYS, while we were playing the game, I was listening in on the fun poolside games the kids were playing for Christmas! They played hot potato with a wrapped present that had a TON of layers of wrapping paper on it! Every time a kid ended up with the package, they had to unwrap it and see if they would get to the prize! Finally after like 8-10 rounds or so, the one little boy who was playing won the prize! It was a Toy Story game! How exciting.

I tweeted:
I wish I was young enough to still participate in poolside activities with the children. #truelife

Once our ping-pong games were over, I went back to my chair. I put up a bunch of pictures on instagram. (FOLLOW ME! @PrincessJess508) The sun kept going in front of and behind the clouds. When it was out it was SUPER hot. But eventually there was full cloud coverage. Oh well.

Jonathan and I then took the opportunity to go get some FOOD! I mean, you don't think I can go that long without eating, do you?

Considering that I am a Disney Foodie, I couldn't settle for a plain old hot dog at the poolside snack bar. I wanted to go over to Contempo Cafe! So time for a million pictures of our journey over there!

dsc0062rw.jpg

dsc0064rm.jpg

This whole area was decorated in such a modern way. The theme at this resort is just SO COOL. I'm so glad Disney built Bay Lake Tower. Like... you don't even know. I absolutely love it more than words can describe.

dsc0065sv.jpg

This fountain was AWESOME. Why am I obsessed with fountains?! I just think they're the most perfect thing!

dsc0066dg.jpg

dsc0067vt.jpg

dsc0068cr.jpg

They had all of these trees growing within these metal fences... it was really interesting! The look came off surprisingly well!
