Anyone have an opinion on the Whispering Canyon Cafe? We're going to try it on our next trip. Thanks!

We had a great time at Whispering Canyon. I loved the food, and the kids loved the pony races or whatever they were called. However, during our visit, the restaurant seemed pretty packed and some of the kids didn't get to participate in the pony races because there weren't enough ponies. Needless to say, my three year old didn't get up there fast enough to get a pony and had a bit of a meltdown after a long day in the parks... :confused3

My kids love this place! It is very loud and lots of antics going on. I think your server helps make or break the experience. We've been a few times and it's always more fun when your server is really into it.
Food is good and the kids love the botomless milkshakes.
Have fun and ask for ketchup!!

I'm having second thoughts about my reservation at WCC. Our reservation is for 5:30. Is it fun at that time of day? I've read so many reviews that say that so much of the experience depends on which waiter/waitress you get. Can anyone recommend one so that I can ask for them by name?

We went a couple of weeks ago and had a good time. Our server wasn't very outgoing or involved in the antics, but that was OK because my dh didn't want a server that was too crazy. It was fun watching the other servers who were more involved w/their tables. My dd's got involved in the pony races and ketchup thing. The food was OK, should not have ordered the skillet, wasn't that great. On the whole, it was a fun time. Our adr was for 8:20 pm, didn't get seated until about 8:35.

We had 'Hop-a-long' Higgens-he was GREAT! Be sure and ask for a "few" crayons on the way out for the kids! :flower:

Has anyone eaten anything there other than the skillet? Is the fried chicken good? What else is good?

Thanks for the info. I too would be interested in knowing what some of the best menu options are.

We ate there a few weeks ago. It will be on our list for next time too! We had a great waiter "Maverick" He was so much fun! The kids had a great time with the pony rides and of course the ketchup. My husband secretly told Maverick we were celebrating our 15 wedding anniversary. Maverick anounced to the whole dining room That it was our anniversary. He made me sing "you are my sunshine" to my husband while going around the room on a stick pony :rotfl2: What a great memorable time, oh yeah the food was great too.

Regarding the food - be aware that most of the meat is smoked. Not everyone likes their meat smoked, including my wife.

Having said that, the bottomless milkshake was wonderful - it's the only one I've ever seen. And the antics can be fun, but that's another thing that will vary from person to person.

pirate: We were at WCC last Wednesday night. I thought the skillet was really good. My DW had the pork chops without the glaze. She said that they were also very good. DS had chicken and fries. The milkshakes were good, but I thought they were to thick. We were seated in the back of the restaurant. We had to get up to take part in the festivities. I recommend sitting in the back if you want a quite meal. If not, ask for the main dinning room. That's where we'll be going next time. :goodvibes

Lorelai--if you do a search on this board you'll find dozens of other threads on WCC. That will give you plenty to look at!

Liveforvacation---I suggest you ask for Bobby the Kid.

It is our family's favorite place to eat at Disney World. We always have fun there and the food is very good.

I always get the skillet - breakfast and dinner. Last time we were there, DW had the Pork Chops and said they were good.

We ate there in July and we all had a great time. You need to ask for more water. I am sure that when we go back we will visit WCC again.

We really loved Whispering Canyon! The kids had so much fun playing with the Lincoln Logs while we waited for our table and my husband and I enjoyed the WL lobby. It is quite a place! We really loved sitting in front of that huge fireplace in the rocking chairs. Very relaxing. We are thinking about staying at the WL next trip, we liked it that much.

Our server, Dynomite Dan, was super friendly and fun, but not over the top (he was a real cutie, too!). He saw my daughter's pink Minnie Mouse ears and asked to try them on, then wore them the entire time we were there! He acted like he was crying when it was time to give them back, lol. He was really helpful with the menu, since we had never been there before, and helped us get the most out of the dining plan. We loved him.

The food was great. We all got the skillet and we really liked everything in it. We also each got the bottomless milkshakes... woo hoo, yummy! My husband said it was the best meal he had at Disney. He loves that down home cooking. The kids got a kick out of all the antics going on and, of course, enjoyed being a part of the Pony Express.

It ended up being one of our favorite meals of the trip. I definitely plan to go again next trip. In short... we love the WCC!

It's fun to watch. For me it would have been fun to participate or have my DD's participate as well, but our server just didn't get into it. I even tried to egg her on. (I am not a shy person by any means-so I can hoot and holler with the best of them. Got that from Dad's side of the family ;) ). The milkshakes were good. Didn't care for the food. We had the AYCE skillet. Not worth the money. I may go back and try a menu item or just for dessert as they looked delicious!

What is it like mid afternoon? We have a 2:30 reservation, it was the only one I could get the day we wanted to go unless we waited until 8:45pm which is just too late for our family to eat. Will there still be some antics going on at that time of the day?
