Your Strategy For Spur of the Moment Trips??

Within the next year we'll be in a position to take short WDW trips on short notice, such as deciding on a weekend to go to Disney for a long weekend of 4 - 5 days the following weekend. It's just the 2 of us so we'll only need 2 airfares, hopefully making it easier to get a Priceline deal from PHL or our local 'port, AVP. My concerns are gettting a Mod or better in WDW on a week's notice as well as cheap airfare. How do you guys & gals do this? What time of year is best for such trips? Any "Last Minute" DISers out there?

I've taken a few last min trips. My best advice would be to call CRO 7AM as soon as you know you are going. Ask for your first resort choice and have two fallback choices. IF you don't have luck with what you really want, keep calling back! I got an AP rate on a room I wanted 3 days before my, last trip. I modified my reservation with out any problems. Try for Value Season if possible, join AAA, AND ALWAYS ASK FOR THAT RATE IF YOU ARE NOT AN AP HOLDER. Stay away from school holidays if possible, of corse it may not be, thats the challenge of last min trips! Also keep the Swan and Dolphin in mind, they are large properties in a convienant area and they offer several discounts including one for teachers! You can also use your Starwood points for these two resorts.

Mousesavers has a couple of websites that offer last minute trips (airfare and car or hotel)

I would try to get airfare at least a week or two in advance, my mom invited my fiance to join her on a trip 5 days before she left a couple of weeks ago, we ended up paying an arm and a leg for airfare 2 days before (after searching for 3 days)
