Your so lucky if you have a "best" friend...does anyone else

I am blessed to have two best friends (not counting dh). One is my best friend from the sixth grade... I am almost 34 now (wow!). The other I met when I was 20... our sons are the same age...

I think it goes without saying DH is my best friend. He's my partner, so obviously no other friend will ever come close to what I feel about him.
Took the words out of my mouth, Snoops! DH is #1 and then I have 3 friends that I've been friends with forever. Two are from h.s. one from college. We've all been through so much together and know each other's histories. Three of us are meeting up this summer in Atlanta to celebrate our 45th birthdays! Can't wait!

I was the type of kid that always had very close friends, rather than a bunch of acquaintances (although I have those now as well).

As a kid my very best friend was Jennifer. Every weekend was spent sleeping over at her house or her at mine. We did everything together. Summertime was swimming in her pool, playing video games in the den and making brownies with her mom. Jenny even taught me how to swim when I was little. When we were 17 she moved to Texas with her family. We lost touch and I haven't talked with her in over a year. A few years ago she visited and I got to see her little boy who looks just like her. Sometimes I miss her but then I think about how much we've changed and I just know we could never be as close as we once were.

Nowadays it seems I have three best friends. My brother and sister who I'm very close with and Ricardo, a guy I've known since I was 8. When we were younger my brother, Ricardo, some other friends and I had our own little club. We hung out all the time. I guess we were sort of the neighborhood clique. Even though I'm still friends with everyone I'm closest to Ricardo.

At the moment he lives an hour 1/2 away but I get to see him a couple of times a month. And when we get together all we do is act goofy and laugh at each other. He has the same silly sense of humor as me and we get along great.

I am an only child so as a result my best friends are more like sisters rather than just best friends!! I have more than one best friend, I guess that may be weird for some people but I think it is the only child thing. My first best friend and I have known each other since the day we were born (in Belfast). We lived on the same street and our parents were good friends. They moved to Canada first and we followed about a year later. They lived an hour away from us and we spent every holiday with each other either at their house or ours. They then moved to the same city as us when we were in Grade 8 and we went to the same high school. We weren't as close at that point, but we have since gotten back together again and have been for years. DH and I are godparents for her son.

I also have another best friend whom I became very close with through high school when I tutored her in instrumental music. She is also friends with the first best friends and also godmother to her son. We are quite the threesome and again are more like sisters too. I also have another friend whom I have known since high school who used to go to the same church and we are still really close.

My other best/sister friend I have known since we both started working for the doctors we work for. We started meeting for lunch about a year after we met about once every 3 months or so. Then after I had DS, we decided to let our DH's meet and we are all now one big happy family. They are our best "couple" friends and are our DS guardians. We, in January, book monthly dates to go out with them and their DD11 and ous DS9 who are also bestest friends. We drive to and from work together everyday (I don't know what I would do without her!) and talk everyday on the weekend if we don't have something planned. I thank God for her every day because she (and her hubby and DD) would do anything for us and us for them. THey are the bestest friends in the whole world!

I feel so lucky to have been blessed with a number of best friends. Even one who I was extremely close to in high school and then lost track of after then. We have since over the last 2 years reunited again over the internet and talk each day in e-mails and have gotten together IRL a number of times!! I wish that everyone could have even one friend as good as the ones I have!!

My best friend's name is Lynn (how ironic it is that a Lynn started this thread).

She and I have been the best of friends since we first met about 30 years (we're 40ish now).

We talk on the phone every other day and see each other a few times a month. Best of all, her younger DS is 8 months younger than my DS, and the two boys are thick as thieves whenever we get together.

I'll see her tomorrow night at her son's birthday party. She's just back from a trip to WDW (that I helped her plan). I can hardly wait to see her tan and photos. :sunny:

I have one best friend. We met in 7th grade and hung out all through junior high and high school. We didn't see each other alot after high school, but we've always kept in touch, and see each other as often as possible. She's my daughter's Godmother and no matter what, she will always be my best friend. We think alot alike. I think that's what's kept us close all these years.:D

It seems that the common theme among those of us who do not have best friends is that we moved a lot. My DH is my best friend, other than that I do not have a lot of friends - and no close friends. I really wish that I had a best friend that I could call etc., but other than that I am quite happy!!!

OhMari ~ we are almost neighbors, I live in West Bend!

My best friend is a hoot. We don't get to see each other as much as we used to but when we do hook up, we pick up like we've been together for forever.

I do get together more frequently with a fantastic cricle of friends. They are all great people and I love them. Then there are the people that I run into at various functions. They're great people too, but we don't really do a lot together. That's not to say that I don't enjoy their company when we do run into eachother. I look forward to these functions (often school or sports) because I know I'll get to catch up with them all.

my best friend is bloomie43!!!! right here on the DIS. we've been best friends since fourth grade. i also have severeal really good friends, but bloomie is my bestest!!

My best friend would have to be my husband. I have known him for 14 years and he is definately the first person I run to when I have news. He's the one I gossip to, the one I want to experience everything with.
Next in line would have to be a tie between my 3 kids.

I really enjoyed all your best friend stories!
I just want to say hang on to them, do something special together, they are very hard to come by these days!

kasar- Exactly! someone you can truly relax and be yourself with.

Caroline - that was so moving coming from a 13 year old, you can teach us all how to hang on to a friend, I'm sure!

I'd have to say my DH is my best friend too(I've known him since I was 15), but he has best friends and lots of them that he is very close to. I just miss someone for myself. (it will be 3 years next month since my baby sis died) and like Kasar...I hope for the best!

My best friend is funny, sweet, has a big heart, cusses like a sailor and loves me like a sister.:) She's the airhead in our relationship (I say that lovingly, of course:teeth: ), she thinks I'm the stable one in the relationship. She helps feed me on my Mickey obsession, I help feed her on her Pooh Bear obsession.:teeth:

My best friend and I have been friends for about 16 or 17 years, and "Best" friends for about 12 years or so. In high school she wsa two years older than me, but we hung out with the same crowd. After she went away to college, we kept in touch and would have a great time when she came home every summer. After I moved to Oregon, she and her DH would come to visit and they fell in love with the area too and moved up here. We can talk about just about anything, and now I watch her baby for her 4 days a week so we see each other even more often! I had two "Best" friends in junior high and high school- one I still keep in touch with, and the other has been reduced to pretty much Christmas card correspondence.

And DH and I are pretty close too! As are my Mom and I!

i've had many friends throughout my life, but my very best friend in the whole wide world is my husband...we spent 10 years apart, but when we reconnected with one another, it was as if we had never been apart! he knows every little thing there is to know about me and loves me unconditionally. i'm lucky to be married to my best friend!

i've had many female "best" friends...but the one person who's stayed with me this whole time is my wonderful DH...

i had a best friend (not the same one, since i moved a lot) all the way until i got to college.

i went to college far away from where i went to high school and in college i had a close circle of friends, but not one best friend in particular.

i would say now that dh is my best friend. :) i do have a circle of friends other than dh, but not one in particular that is my "best friend."

Here's a little hope for those of you who are best friend-less....I met my best friend as an adult (5 years ago....we've been "best" friends for about 3 years now). It always seems that those with "best friends" have been friends with them since grade school, but it can happen as an adult, too!

I love my best friend dearly. I cannot imagine my life without her now, I honestly can't. We speak on the phone every single day, often for hours at a time. I see her probably once a month or less, because we live over 2 hours apart, and we vacation together at least once a year. She's a warm, funny, smart, beautiful woman. I'm so lucky to know her!

I had a best friend when I was little - The girl down the street. We were inseparable (sp?). She was a year younger than me and we met when we litterally were toddlers. But, as time went on we grew apart. She is still my friend and will always be but not my best friend.

I have realized, though, that I have 2 best friends now and that through the years (1) my mom is really my best friend. I am an only child and don't know what the whole sister thing is. Thought I might've when I married my ex and he had 3 sisters (one whom I went all through school with since kindergarten) but that just wasn't the case. My mom had me when she was 40 and Dad was 41...and now with my dad sick it has really brought the three of us so much closer than ever before.

My 2nd best friend is my "BF". I've known him for almost 4 years and he knows all of my deepest, darkest secrets. He and I finish each others sentences and we know what the other is thinking even before we say it. I've shared things with him that no one else on this earth knows and he still likes me ;) I never believed in soul mates before I met him but I truly believe he is mine.

I have two very special best friends. One is my DH who I've known since we were seven. We were friends long before we even considered dating. Now we've been married 19 years this July :D . My other best friend is my friend Jackie. Her mom and my mom were best friends since they were in high school and we were raised having our baths in the tub together. We don't take a bath together anymore, but we are closer to each other than we are to our sisters. I can't imagine life without either my DH or Jackie :( .

Sadly I don't have any friends where we live now, best or otherwise. It really is hard to make friends when you move around. I totally understand that.

But I do have two best friends.

Jenn is my soul mate, if there is such a thing in the best friend world. :teeth: We met working at Penney's when I was in college. We even look alike: I'm 5'11" and she's 6'0", both have dk hair, etc. People even ask us if we're sisters and even twins!! lol :earseek: She's five years younger, lol, but I don't look my age, 31, so it works for me! :Pinkbounc We tell each other everything and I mean Everything!! We don't get to see each other very often anymore, now that I live so far away, but everytime we do talk, it's for hours and it's like we haven't been apart at all.

My other best friend, I've known since Kindergarten. We're cousins and were always in the same class. We were always friends, but have gotten really close in the past year. In fact, we email Every day and I don't know what I would do without her. She's a member of the Dis too- excitedmomma.

I love both of them so much and I am so thankful to have them in my life! ::yes::
