Stayed at the Poly two summers ago, it was amazing! I had always wanted to stay there and when we finally did I swear I didn't want to leave! My favorite thing was going out early in the morning and sitting on the beach or laying in a hammock reading a book and doing a little people watching. It was just so amazingly peaceful, the Poly was like two totally different vacations for me, there was the hussle and bussle of the parks and then the relaxing beach at the resort.

The shops, restaurants, and staff were all geat. Our room was clean and spacious, we had no problem with it looking old like some people have but I wasn't trying to look that hard I guess.

My only complaint with the Poly was the that the volcano pool was terribly crowded all the time, I think it's way to small for the size of the resort and I found it surprisingly shallow. But hey, if this the biggest compliant I can think of with out stay then I think the Poly is doing pretty good!

So overall I love the Poly and hope to make it back there someday!

Just got back from a split stay at CSR/BWV. We absolutely missed the Poly!!! We have stayed there 4 times and we've decided that the Poly MAKES a Disney vacation for us! I have tried the following - ASM, CSR, CBR, POR, Disney Institute (old), Dolphin, WL, AKL, BC, BW, and the Poly (and Hilton Bonnet Creek but that was slightly 'offsite'). And Poly wins by a landslide - LANDSLIDE!!!!! Here is why:

  • Vacation within a vacation - the ambience and things to do are numerous and enjoyable. It FEELS like you are on a Hawaiian vacation.
  • Transportation - OF COURSE you can not exclude this. The monorail CAN NOT be beat. It comes often, it is quick, and it is fun. Get to MK via GCH or a short walk to TTC for Epcot.
  • Large rooms - musty and dark??? If you come from a dry climate, it might seem musty but this is a humid climate so it will be somewhat HUMID. Dark? Open the curtains...
  • Food!!!! - Captain Cooks has great quick service choices along with a dole whip. Ohana is one of the best sit down restaurants for the family. And the other sit down spots at Kona usually don't need reservations and they have good sushi.
  • CMs - LOVE the CMs here!!!
  • Pool - VOLCANO POOL!!!!! And the east pool - both great for different reasons, yet both easily accessible to the bar :)
  • Activities - boat rentals, cabana rentals, beach volleyball, table tennis, hula lessons, fire ceremony, kids activities, best kids club on property, watching fireworks from the beach and the EWP, etc.
  • Shopping - I like the shopping at the Poly. I know you can shop anywhere at Disney but I like resorts with good shopping so I can take my time and enjoy the unique items of the resort.
  • The poly relaxes me. No other Disney resort does that for me - NONE. I feel more rushed at the other resorts and not as relaxed.
  • Access to GF and Contemporary. I enjoy taking a quick monorail ride to these resorts to visit, shop, and eat. It's like having 3 resorts in one.
  • Access to Sammy Duvall sports at Contemporary - again, a quick monorail ride and you can be parasailing!!! Yup, we did that - awesome!!
  • Cabanas - Oh wow, these things are great! So relaxing. Only some resorts have these (not even all Deluxes have these) so it is special.

I seriously could go on and on. Poly is the best Disney resort!!

:thumbsup2 Thanks Tinkerbellie!!!! :goodvibes You've made me sooooo excited for my first POLY CL stay in Sept!! I am seriously so excited! I really wished I could have afforded the CL Lagoon view, but for an extra $1000 over GV, it was out of the question for just a view.....albeit, a beautiful view, I am sure!! At least we have access to the Club Lounge with our GV CL room, so that I felt was the most important thing!
I see that you went Parasailing, I just booked the groupon deal for parasailing and booked a Tandem flight for my BFF and I, and 2 singles for my teens.....I am slightly nervous of heights. I can do Soarin' on the bottom row....heart palpatates a little faster, and fingers clench those hand rails, but I can do it....I have always wanted to parasail, it's on my bucket list. I am just hoping I don't chicken out!! :crazy2: Did you enjoy your parasailing experience?? Do you recommend tipping the boat people? and what do you think would be appropriate?? I have never done a "excursion" before....we will be parasailing first thing in the morning on Sept 29, all goes well! :goodvibes

OH it is better than a value for many reasons. but is also cost a whole lot more. we have stayed at all deluxe and moderates thru the years of 80 or more trips and we now stay at POP which is a value but we stay two weeks and to sty in POLY would be prohibitive for us for two weeks along with our spending habits. the rooms larger for one at Poly and the amenities are better and the monorail goes thru so travel is good and there are several fodd places in the Poly and we like them but we eat all over WDW and in other resorts as well. as much as we like POP can't comapre it to POLY

Yes! To all of this, but especially the part about the poly relaxing me! Yes I find it hard to actually let go and relax ever, but the Poly did this for me too! And ai can find this feeling in my everyday life now if I really try hard. Corny I know, but true story!::yes::

In my adult life, I have enjoyed 3 fabulous stays at the Poly, and it has continued to be our favorite place on earth.

We will be there on Saturday for a week and will be writing a LIVE trip report
(linked in my signature). Please feel free to follow along, an if you have any questions while I am there, please ask!

1. Our room was dirty and we had to fight mousekeeping to get it taken care of (food on the sheets) and an open bar of soap in the bathroom. Gag. No apologies or anything when they came to clean our room at 10:30pm

This is what worries me. I am a Value Resort kind of guy and have never seen anything dirty, like you'd expect from a 192 hotel, in an All-Star Hotel.

Dirty carpets, dirty rooms, and other peoples trash left in rooms is not acceptable at the price you are paying.

Right now, the night I would stay at the Polynesian it is $444 and the All-Star Sports is $79. (including tax)

I am not sure I want to take the chance of ruining my Disney experience. I would be majorly disappointed if it was sub-par. The extra $365 means it better over the top and I am not sure always is.

I really like the Poly.

The grounds are just beautiful. Walking through at night with the torches lit is awesome. The landscaping is so lush and green that it always makes me feel like I've been transported to some island in the South Pacific.

And Dole Whips every day? Count me in! :)

Have a great trip!

What a horrible comment to make, but I guess that is what you expect from some people :clown::clown::clown:

The poor guy is getting drilled for expression his truthful opinion. We do live in America. Its his opinion. People who are drilling him are drawing more attention to his post.

Truthfully, I value an honest opinion. Im not gonna waste my time and judge someones opinion.

Carry on and move along !!!

Thank you for telling me my opinion and comment are horrible. And then commenting on me? That's just rude.

My comment was my observation and not directed at any one person; take a look at both places next time (the guests who are staying at the the Poly-not just visiting) and form your own conclusion-perhaps it will be different than mine. Unlike you, I feel strongly that you are allowed to have an opinon.

Thank you. Mine was an opinion-not a persoanl attack (like that person).

On the one hand, you really shouldn't worry about a dirty room at WDW, it doesn't happen very often. On the other hand, if you expecting over the top, you might very well be disappointed. There is going to be the occasional sub-par room, at any of the WDW resorts. Its not a perfect world.

I've had a few dirty rooms at WDW that were memorable in over 30 stays, and we often do split stays so more than double that number of rooms. These rooms include deluxe (2), moderate(1) and value resorts(1). The worst was at ASMu in 1998. It was hard to tell if the room was dirty or clean but badly stained including floor, walls, furniture, bedding, etc. I was shocked, it was my 1st stay at a value, but it was the only room available for that night last minute that wasn't over $400 (yes I clearly remember the prices). I didn't complain at the time, but wrote a letter afterwards. The executive housekeeper responded to my letter and told me the room had been scheduled to be taken out of circulation for renovations, etc, and asked me to give the resort another chance. I did, and have been happy with subsequent stays. If I get a dirty room at any hotel/motel and it bothers me I let management know about it. How they respond determines if I return for another visit.

The POLY is worth an occasional splurge to me!

It wasn't an honest opinion, it was just a nasty remark to make.

Yes, when someone posts something like that, they're going to get drilled (using your term). Get over it.

I'm happy that you got that honest opinion, about there being "fewer trashy people" at the poly, as stated by that poster. You must share the same values.

I would not consider a value at all.. If Poly is too much for your pocket then a Moderate would be a better choice.

The Values are overcrowded, small rooms, tiny beds and even smaller pillows.

Most moderates (except CBR ) have Queen beds. CSR is a really good in between option IMO.

Of course - there is no better way to vacation than enjoying the perks and locations of deluxe resorts, if you can afford to.

To me a good nights sleep is important and I cant get that with the lack of comfort in a Value hotel. Maybe in my teenage years (which is why Value is so overcrowded with unruly teenagers) but not at this point....

That's what happened to us. That's why we transferred to CR:(

We are value resort people (and we are not trashy...:goodvibes) but we have stayed at the Poly....loved it.....Location, location, location....it was awesome to have the monorail right outside the door, and being so close the O'Hana and Kona. Staying there was always my dream and for a short trip prior to a cruise, we decided to book it for 2 nights....would I do it again? Yes....for a week or more, probably not because of the cost. We aren't in our room very much so for us, the Values are a better deal.

Well, if you "assume" that I share the same values, then I guess its safe to "assume" that the truth must hurt and you felt like the "trashy" comment was directed at you.

Hmmmm...now maybe we are getting to the root of why you are taking it personal for people having an opinion. It must have hit home.

I could say more but you are not worth anymore of my time. Be gone and carry on.

bdklein, i have no idea who you are, but I respect people who call a "spade" a "spade". :thumbsup2

Loved the location, grounds and pool!
Hated how very loud our room was! I know folks complain about the noise at the Values, but I have never before or since been in a room where I could hear every single word, cough, etc. the people in the room beside us made and I've stayed in every level of resort at Disney. Our room was a connecting one and we tried to change, but they said there was no availability.
Also, while we loved our stay, it was crazily overpriced!
