Ok, so we're likely going down to Disney this coming April just after the normal spring break time (April 21-April 27), Monday through Sunday. We normally wouldn't consider this time of year but because the other half is a teacher, we're limited to his Spring Break schedule.

I've been looking and looking for a few months now and it seems that the only cheap flights are between $300-$325 per person out of Laguardia/JFK.

If you were in our situation, would you just go ahead and book at that price or wait for a while to see what happens?

My concern is that the $300 is WAY higher than what we've historically paid (typically $180-250). But given the gas prices these days, we assume that's the reason for the higher fares.

My fear is that we'll lose out on the $300 fare if we keep waiting.

Your thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated!

And here I thought I was such an experienced flyer. :confused3

Hi Rick...I was going to head to WDW with my dd in late April. I even had my resort all booked, and then checked on airfares...ouch!!! I changed to next week. I'm lucky I was able to make the changes. But it was going to cost me close to $800 for my dd and I to fly out of Logan to MCO. I think the fares are going to stay pretty high for that time frame. You may get a slightly cheaper fare with JB or SW but not much cheaper.
Good luck.

Have you checked with Jet Blue out of Newburg? I saw something on the boards that they may be cheaper. You might have to drive a little farther.

Southwest isn't an option for us, they don't fly out of LGA or JFK. Wish they did. Jetblue is sold out!!! for our travel dates. Yeesh.

The good news is that we have our passes from a previous trip AND we got a ridiculous rate with an onsite resort. It's just the flight.

We likely will book this week at the $325 rate. I just hate to do so if we might get something cheaper, I just seriously big time doubt we will.

Yikes. Newburg is several hours' drive away! It's a good thought but just not an option for us. NUTS!

Sorry that I didn't stipulate that the only airport options for us is LGA and JFK with Newark as the third.

Hi Rick. Are you sure Newburgh is several hours? My son lived in Newburgh and worked in NYC for a while. He took the train in daily (which was a pain).
I think it was about 75 miles. Might bed worth the savings of a few hundred dollars.

Maybe I'm crazy then. I thought it was closer to Rochester. I'll look into it!

If you don't mind early flights NWA has flights out of LGA on your date for $231.

If JFK, LGA and Newark are the only 3 realistic choices, your chances of getting prices like in the past are probably pretty low, given a) fuel prices and b) still high demand. And unless Newark is a ton cheaper than the other 2 airports, I'd stick with LGA or JFK. No offense, but I did not at all like Newark in my experience there last year.

Is $325 a r/t price, or one way? If one way, it's a bit expensive, but really doesn't sound out of whack with what I'm seeing in middle America on SWA (Louisville and Nashville being my airports). If it's a r/t price, I'd book it ASAP, as I don't think you'll find anything cheaper that wouldn't also require a lot of finagling to fit schedules, etc.

Oh, no..it's just up the thruway from you (I just looked at mapquest, and yup, it's 75 miles. I believe he took a train that goes with minimum stops, and I think it's not far from the airport.

Rochester is a few hours west of Albany (near Buffalo)..you wouldn't want to go there.

My nephew recently flew (he lives in Albany) Jet blue from Stewart and really was happy with it. They've had some really nice sales..he flew for $59 each way.

Are you far from Islip?

Thanks for all the input guys! I think, given the amount of time it'd take to Stewart and Islip, that LGA and JFK are our best bets. Even Newark is a pain to get to if we're really only saving about $50 per ticket.

And I think Grimley hit the nail on the head about snapping up tix this week all that being said. And yes, by the way, $300-325 per person is round trip. If it were one way, we wouldn't even consider going at all.

And cbrfan, THANKS for referring me to Northwest! I have no problem traveling early morning going or coming and that saves us $200 in total!
