Your Opinions on Whispering Canyons Cafe

Please, Please, Please do not depend on a great server to make or break your meal.

We tried to prod our server into antics - any kind of antics - for our entire meal.

He was not so moved.

We were really looking forward to our fun meal, and were fresh off of an amazing experience at 50's PTC.

It did not happen.

I am NOT saying don't go, I am just cautioning that the servers are not always fun.

I would completely agree with this. While our server was very nice, the biggest antic we got were some straws thrown on the table. The server at the table behind us was a hoot - we wished we could have been seated in his section!

It also seems to depend on where you're seated, if you're "in" on what's going on. We were seated in a "bump out" towards the WL lobby and couldn't see most of what was going on in the main part of the restaurant.

We are on the side of loves it. We went on our last trip because we wanted to go to dinner and I always wanted to see the WL so we went. It has now become a family tradition that we will go there our first night every trip. The food was good and it was FUN, it really got us ready for our upcoming week. We had a fun waitress and nearly 2 years later our kids still tak about her, remember her name, and remember all the silly stuff she did. I hope this year's experience is as good...

I've heard this before about WCC and 50's. Has anyone just ever told the waiter they were there for the experience and he should get with the program or get them another waiter?

I guess I'm in the minority here but it was definitely my least favorite meal of our trip last month. The food was just ok, although there is a lot of it on that skillet. Our server didn't really do anything especially fun, we must have had the same server as thewesterberg - we got the straw throwing too. But it wasn't that - it was so incredibly loud the entire time and we're not exactly a quiet family either. Plus, the antics I read about here - I thought it would be fun to have DH or one of the boys ask for ketchup - but the ketchup routine was so old before we were even seated - I won't say more, don't want to ruin it if its a surprise. I don't think I would book this place again, sorry!

I see what you mean. Hopefully, the food will be good and we'll get an ok person. This is why I tend to waver with all of my ADR's!!! But like everything else - it depends on so many factors, we try to just bring the fun with us!

What I had a chance to eat was pretty good. Our problem with WCC had nothing to do with the food or service, but to the noise. I have one child that has noise issues and he couldn't take the restaurant. I knew before hand that it was a "louder" restaurant, but I wasn't expecting it to be as bad as it was. Needless to say he spent most of the meal in tears and refused to eat (and this boy is my eater). I won't be going back with him for many years to come.

We ate there in August of this year only because my son and hubby wanted to try the skillet. My daughter and I do not eat meat which ended up being a problem. She got the skillet and ate the mashed potatoes, corn and beans ($25 was alot when she only ate the vegggies). The only non-meat item on the menu was the vegetable lasagna, so I got it. I thought it was awful. I ate a couple of bites, felt like a wasted $14, and left hungry. As for my son and hubby, they would eat there everyday, they love the skillet.

We had the same experience. Different server. She was good, she was a fine server. Not really into antics which was alright. It was just so loud in there and we are not quiet people! (Loud as in the server was yelling and NO ONE HEARD HIM!!!!) The food was mediocre at best. It just isnt for us, we tried it but now we know.

Warning: the vegetable enchilada is disgusting! I swear they take grill fired baked beans out of a can and dump into the shell. Roll it up, add more BBQ sauce and some cheese. I couldn't eat it, I just picked at it.

Good atmosphere and fun. Last time we went we were all disappointed with the skillet. It all seemed premade and dried out. I would return someday but just order off the menu, not the skillet again.

Mrs. Disney Ron

Same here. We went in 2007. The restaurant was fun, but I would not order the skillet again. We will order from the menu if we return there. Also, we were seated along the side and our waitress was not into the fun...it was just ok for us.

I thought the skillet was very good. I was disappointed because we had a really lousy server and were not seated in the main room. My kids kept getting up to see what was going on in the main room. I would go back again for the skillet, but I know not to expect anything more.

We love it, although we don't go every year. We didn't go last year because DH just wasn't hungry for another BIG meal by the time we got to our ADR's. We are there for two weeks, so sometimes that happens towards the end of our stay. (Note to self - book it early in the trip next year - LOL).

We were there last week, and we really enjoyed it. I loved the fact that DD was entertained from the moment we arrived for our ADR (Lincoln Logs in the lobby!) right up until we left. We did really like the skillet, and our waiter seemed to get a kick out of the whole routine. We didn't do any of the known "triggers" for antics, but it was kind of a fun challenge trying to pin him down to straight answers to our questions.

Plus, my daughter really enjoyed the Wilderness Lodge lobby itself. After dinner, she spent a good 20 minutes running from the rocking chairs to the bridge and over and over again. We had to drag her out of there.

If we were a Disney-every-year family, I'd definitely go again.

DH and I ate there last year and we liked it. We like to try new places, and it didn't fit into our plans for our November trip. But we would like to go back again. I think our kids would really enjoy it.
