Your opinion - WL or cabin?

We have stayed at the WL and love it. I am thinking of doing a cabin next time but have not seen the area or inside. Look like it might be more confortable but we would miss the rocking chairs, etc at WL. Anyone have a opinion?

If you like the feeling of camping and would like more space to spread out - go for the cabin.

If you like to have coffee at your beck and call in the morning do the WL.

If you would like a little bit of both - try a WL villa, one maybe available for you to rent.

We loved the cabin. If you want a rocking chair you'll find some on the porch at Pioneer Hall. You can people watch as folks make their way to the boat dock or meals at Trails End.

Staying in the cabins is a different experience than WL but an enjoyable one. We spent a week in a cabin and then spent a week at the Contemporary. We enjoyed both stays equally. It was certainly nice to have the fridge. We didn't cook much but it was nice to have breakfast before the parks and make sandwiches for some meals.

We love the cabins when we take the kids. I would not choose to stay there with just my husband - like a little more in the way of nightlife. I would never choose to stay at WL again, though. I just did not like it there.

Just wanted to say if you hate camping, you'll still love the cabins, as they are just really nice hotel rooms with a kitchen that aren't connected to each other. I do not like to camp, and I LOVED the cabins. The scenery is more rustic and quiet. And we checked out those rocking chairs down by pioneer hall. Comfy!

We just returned from a week at WL CL and Fort Wilderness Cabins. I have to say I enjoyed the cabins much better!

DH and I prefer the cabins for several reasons: when you want to sleep or nap you do not hear people talking in the hallway, kids running down the hallway, housekeepers, etc. We like the kitchen and the full-sized fridge, we like the deck (it seems when we stay at WL or AKL as soon as we step foot out on the patio our neighbors will decide to go out onto their patio and talk really loud or their kids will be yelling,etc. I found this especially true at the AKL-why do people think animals want to be yelled at????), we like that there are 2 tvs (my kid is addicted to "Channel 96"), room to spread out, and the overall privacy-you don't have to deal with others if you choose not to! Sometimes after spending the day battling crowds at the parks I just want my own little place of peace.

I do not like the fact that you have to get a bus or use a golf cart to get down to the marina or Pioneer Hall/Crocket's Tavern/Trail's end, etc. Travel around the resort is a bit cumbersome but it is manageable. Also, there is a nice walkway over to the WL!!!

In the future we've decided that our resort of choice will be the FW cabins; when we want a little fix of the WL we will either drive over, walk over, or take a boat.

mmluvr-is there a TV now in the bedroom? Our last stay there they had taken them out.

I would pick WL if you are planning on doing any swimming as the pool at the campground is not very Disneylike to me. If accomodations are the only concern, I would pick the cabins. Having a kitchen for snacks can't be beat and a private bedroom. However, both the murphy bed and the bed in the bedroom are full size. The one in the bedroom is pushed against the wall, so if you have to get up you will be climbing over someone.

The cabins has been our least favorite place to stay so far on-site (we've also done AKL, WL, and the Dolphin), but, that said, the setting was so pretty and peaceful. Our cabin was not well-maintained, I'm afraid, with mold issues, a leaky dishwasher, and varnish that was coming up off the floors that prevented the floors from getting clean (even after I scrubbed the entire floor myself twice, the kids' socks were black by the end of the day). DH and I couldn't manage in the double size beds (come to think of it, maybe the bedroom bed was a queen, but it felt claustrophobic to me and I preferred the murphy bed in the living) and each ended up sleeping with one child. Transportation was not good for us, a family with two small kids. Renting a car is imperative, IMO. Do take the boat to MK - it's fun - but leave earlier than you think you should if you want to be there at opening. That said, it was nice to be able to make a quick, nourishing breakfast in the kitchen before heading off for the day.

I am sure we'll be trying it again eventually - we're expecting baby number 3 in early 2006 and we'll be eventually limited with our on-site selections as a family of 5. Until then, my family loves WL and that would be our personal choice.

We have stayed in the cabins many, many times. All of the things already mentioned are true (even the less that complimentary comments), although we've never had an issue with the cabin being unkept.

We love the whole campground setting. The pools are just that, pools. Nothing fancy, but still wet. And having a golf cart is almost a must for us. We enjoy heading down to Crocketts Tavern some evenings and sitting in a rocking chair with a Davy's Lemonade (try one, they're great) and watch all the people returning from MK or arriving for the HDD.

All in all it's a very relaxing resort. You definitely don't feel hurried at all.

We've stayed in the cabins about 7 times over the past two years (including a short stay two weeks ago) and only once did we encounter no TV in the bedroom. All the other times (including our most recent visit) we've been happy to find a tv in the bedroom-thankgoodness!!!!!

When we went - no tv in bedroom, but we didn't care, we put the kids in there.

To OP, we LOVED the cabins themselves. They are really nice. But you have to decide if you want to be in a campground or hotel situation. I will return if we are using it strictly for sleeping AND cooking. BUT my family prefers a hotel situation where we are a skip & hop to pool, amentities, transportation, etc.
