How did your spouse (or spouse-to-be) propose to you. Or how did you propose to them? Was it sweet & romantic, short & to the point or a "I think we'd make a good team" type?

Short and to the point. But it was no surprise. We'd already set the date. He just didn't have the ring yet because it was custom-made and took 6 weeks to be completed after we ordered it. He wasn't going to officially "ask" until he had the ring. :confused3

My DH told me he was in Philadelphia on business. I get home from work and there was a note on the kitchen table saying he was sorry he had to travel but he left me a little something in my closet. I go to my closet in my room expecting some candy or something and when I open the closet door out pops my DH! He scared the ever living daylights out of me, I almost had a heart attack. He got on one knee and proposed but I was so dazed, scared, confused that it took me a while to process the whole thing!

All in all it was a really funny proposal and one that everyone laughs at to this day!

He proposed at Disney while watching the fireworks at Epcot.

It wasn't a surprise really. We had already discussed plans. And I got the ring a couple weeks later. He didn't trust bringing it on the plane!

I'm not married, but my parents proposal was rather interesting, apparently. They were at a bar celebrating their birthday's (which are 10 days apart), and some guy comes up to them and says "Let me buy you and your lovely wife a drink". My dad says "she's not my wife." My mom says "I should be. Lets get married". So my dad agreed, and 6 months later they were married. This was after they've been dating for 3 months.

Mine was pretty bad (imho). It was my ex-husbands graduation weekend and we had just parked the car outside his dorm. He had just taken a trip to NYC and said he had a gift for me.

He got me out of the car and handed me a BLUE TIFFANY BAG!! Inside was a big fake plastic diamond ring...and while I stood there confused he pulled the ring out of his pocked.

I didn't need nor ask for a Tiffany ring, but why in the world would you do that to a girl? He apparently bought the box and bag on ebay:confused:

And to top it off, because it was his college graduation his parents insisted we don't mention a word of the engagement...the attention shouldn't be taken of the graduation. :confused3 So glad they aren't my inlaws anymore.

Romantic....a last minute trip (i thought we were going away for his birthday) turned into the perfect weekend in Paris....I didnt even know he went ring shopping....

I was spending the night at DH's house (now our house, it sounds weird to call it DH's house!).

Anyway we get a call at 5:00 in the morning. DH says, "Uh-huh. Yeah. Okay." and hangs up. He said that it was his dad, and that his dad's car broke down on the way to a golf game. This seemed plausible because his dad always had an early tee time. DH was going to pick him up, and wanted me to come because he was too tired to drive alone.

I should have been tipped off because DH hopped in the shower. I asked him why he was taking a shower and he said because his dad was taking us to Dairy Queen for breakfast as a "thank you." I passed on the shower - Dairy Queen isn't exactly a gourmet restaurant.

It was still dark out. We get out to an abandoned grocery store parking lot, and DH is driving around saying, "I know he's here some somewhere." I kept saying, "Just CALL him!"

Finally a big truck pulls up with a trailer. DH said, "Surprise, we're going on a hot air balloon ride!" :lovestruc

That's when I started having a clue what was going on, but I didn't say anything. We get up in the air, it was so beautiful, and DH proposed in the hot air balloon! It was perfect!

That was June 4. We call it "Hot Air Balloon Day" and celebrate every year.

:rotfl2:

I was proposed to at the wishing well in Disneyland. Very romantic.

Except it was on the third try - the first time it was too busy and the second time someone was having a birthday party there complete with cupcakes! Do you think I wondered why we had to keep going back to that darn well?! You bet! I was pretty suspicious. But it ended up being worth it. :cloud9:

In front of the castle at Magic Kingdom. DH had the ring in his fanny pack (it was in 1990) :lmao: , and I suspected he had it, but didn't know for sure. He waited until noon after we finally sat down to have a root beer float. When he came back from throwing away the cups, he sat down next to me, showed me the ring, and asked me to marry him.

I didn't answer, but just kissed an hugged him. He had to ask me again to make sure I said yes.

There was someone behind us who noticed what was going on, and videotaped it. Then he disappeared. I wish we had gotten his name.

Mine was fun.

We had taken the kids to the Texas State Fair. He had 2 kids, I had one, but we were already living together.
His daughter and my son are the same age(10). They both kept saying we have to ride the Ferris Wheel. But his oldest son(12) didn't want to for fear of heights.

I figured out what was going on but I didn't want one child to be left out. So I said I wasn't going if he didn't go.

We got in line. We got up to get in our car or whatever you call it and I had the attendant take our picture, it was picture 13 on my camera and we got into car 13.

I sat on one side holding his son's hand and comforting him, he did great by the way. DH sat on the other side with the other two kids, and as soon as we got to the top he pulled out the ring and asked.

We got married May 13 at 1300 hours(1:00 pm). Can you tell 13 is our number?

I'm not sure how to describe it..romantic I suppose

We have a favorite vacation spot in the white mountains of New Hampshire and he booked a weekend away for us. On the drive up I remember him saying "we should go to XX and look at rings" so I thought to myself he wouldn't be proposing on this trip. We got to the resort and went out to our favorite dinner place. It's a really nice, romantic place with a big fireplaces..low lighting, good, fancy food. We had a great meal, but no proposal. So we get back to the condo and I'm in my pajamas at this point and watching tv when he comes in. They were showing a movie we like and I sort of sarcastically said something about "if we ever get married" and then he pulls out the box from behind his back and asked "I was wondering if you would be my wife?" I was surprised and of course said yes. :)

Mine was so bad that I almost broke up with him over it. Enough said.

We have the same birthday. We had been dating just over a year and my parents were going to take us out for our birthday- DH got rather upset because he had already made reservations at a French restaurant in Charlotte. I said whatever, they can take us out the next night. We had never talked about marriage so the thought never occurred to me that he might propose. After dinner we had dessert. I went to the restroom and when I came back he had the ring box on the table. I found out later that he had bought over 2 months earlier but never let on.

We were cuddling together in a big comfy chair watching TV. It was in 2000 when the moon was closer to the earth than it would be for another 75 years (or was it 75,000? some huge number)

I had planned on proposing that night, for that reason. You know, a night like no other...

We were talking and she said "I can't wait any longer" about something...
I said "neither can I". I handed her the ring and asked for her hand. Of course she said yes.

She had the church and hall booked within a week!!! Heheheheheee

Aww, give us just enough to be curious for more. Do tell.

Let's just say it wasn't anything a girl could tell her mother about. I always give that advice to guys...she's going to be asked how you proposed, so make sure it's a story she can actually tell.

Mine wasn't a proposal, more like an agreement.

My DH isn't very romantic. When his father was dying, he would tell everyone at the hospital that I was his sons fiance. For some reason he thought I would be able to get his pain meds for him faster with that title. A couple of weeks after he passed away I was just feeling really sad. I liked being known as his daughter-in-law. We had been going out almost 4 years and while I knew we would get married someday, there was no indication of when.

So here I was one Saturday morning, just unable to get out of bed because I couldn't stop crying. I started to worry that if we kept dragging our feet maybe my dad wouldn't be around either. I really wanted my dad to walk me down the aisle. So when DH came to check on me as to why I hadn't gotten out of bed yet, I spilled everything out to him. And he said "okay then, let's get married."

So, there ya go. lol.

Oh, I NEVER let DH forget how he proposed! Every time we're watching tv and some guy proposes, I make sure to tell our DS's "See, THIS is how you propose to your future wife, NOT the way your Dad did!" ;) (I esp. like the commercial where the guy is taking the girl to diff. places and asking "do you remember this place"; "our first date", etc.)

Anyway, DH had been looking for a new job. He called me at work to say that this company in Maryland wanted him to come for an interview and could I take a vac day to go with him and spend the weekend (we live in PA). He then went on to say that this company was willing to pay for MY expenses, too, so it wouldn't cost us a thing. Of course, I said "Why are they willing to pay for me, I'm just your girlfriend." To which he replied: "Well, I told them you were my fiancee." And I said: "Gee, that's news to me." And he said: "Well, do you want to be?"

Yep, that's how he proposed. I don't remember much after that, except I think I said something along the lines of "we have something to talk about tonight" and let it go at that.

You better believe he's NEVER going to live this down!

(By the way, we've been married 24 years.)

a "I think we'd make a good team" type?

Definitely that type.

I had been hinting for weeks that I wanted a ring for Christmas.

After we opened all our gifts that Christmas morning, he ran upstairs saying he forgot something. When he came back down he handed me a beautiful tiny wooden box and said "Will you be my girl?"

I did all the girly things, ooohed and aaahed and kissed and squealed and cried...called my parents, my cousin, and a few other people.

After a few hours, I had to ask for clarification if "being his girl" = marriage proposal!:rotfl2:

We were married about 18 months later.;)
